There’s a truly ridiculous amount of buildup here, that doesn’t even get paid off in the chapter, and I don’t really get it? Like, the individual in question here is somebody I feel like Ichigo would not be that surprised is working with them, under the circumstances, and Ichigo has the best relationship with him out of anybody there. You could maybe say that he’s scared for Orihime and Chad, but...I dunno, it just feels like teasing the reader at the expense of the storytelling and in-universe logic.

Delphini could feel her mummy tensing, the magic surrounding her nearly snapping to attention. The arm already wrapped around Delphini's tightens considerably, mama's other hand reaching up to clamp around her mouth firmly.

The little witch freezes.

There's someone else in the hall.

No one aside from their little family is supposed to have access to these corridors. Even the four-year-old understands that. She's listening carefully, it's a few heartbeats before Bella slowly removes her hand. Delphini turns in her arms, catching her mother's eye as the witch brings a finger to her lips in warning. "Hush." She breathes.

Delphini does not need to be told twice.

Her mother reaches for her wand as Delphini hand's tighten on her dress.

"Bellatrix." A strange voice calls from the other end of the hall. Delphini shrinks into her mother's hold, burying her face into the witches neck.

"I don't like him." Delphi hisses into Bella's curls, having no other way to explain the horrible feeling settling in the pit of her stomach as this stranger takes a step closer.

"If you give us the girl, Bellatrix, we might consider letting you live."

Four. Days. 

Nicholas D. Wolfwood had had it. Even Christ himself had only been expected to put up with Hell for three. 

But it had been four days for Wolfwood, four days in the desert with the double suns blazing down unmercifully on his shoulders, four days with the cross on his back as hot as a skillet even through its wrappings, and four days of Vash the Stampede's ass ten feet in front of his face at all times. Wolfwood might not have minded the last bit, honestly, if it wasn't for the fact that the rest of Vash had the Willy's Water Wagon jingle stuck on repeat for those four days, and he had been humming it incessantly. Hearing the line waves o' water, winter-fresh! approximately fifty times an hour had, in Wolfwood's estimation, taken the situation from annoying to a crime against humanity. 

Which was something Wolfwood was going to commit, if he didn't see a town on the horizon by nightfall. 

"Where the hell is this place, Tongari," he said, not because he had the energy to talk, but because if Vash was talking then at least he would not be humming. "I thought we were supposed to be there by yesterday." 

"Eh, that was just an estimate!" Vash was every bit as filthy and sunburnt as Wolfwood was, possibly even more of the latter, but somehow his spirits remained high. "Nobody's making you follow me, you know." 

"Tch," he said, because he couldn't very well say that someone was indeed making him follow Vash, and a year of desert days in the company of the entire Willy's Waterbug Sing-a-Long Jamboree was preferable to what would happen if Wolfwood went back on that order. 

"What's the name, again? Glory Hole?" 

"Glory Springs," Vash said, giving him an annoyed look over his shoulder, which improved Wolfwood's mood considerably. 

"That's really not much better," he said. 

"You're just saying that," Vash said, putting his nose in the air, "because you've never been there." 

"That is not what I meant." Wolfwood got out his lighter, opened it, closed it again, put it away. "I assume there's a bathhouse or something, right? 'Cause if I get any more sand fleas living on me I'm gonna have to ask them to start tithing."
