Hi ELP! Long time lurker here, love your writing! From the legendary groups of the 1st generation to the most recent rookies, is there any group you recently got into? What makes you curious to check a group out? Is it their music, performances, music videos, visuals, variety show appearances? What are you looking for in a group? Skills/talent, personality, chemistry between members, just good songs? What do you like the most about your favorite groups? sincerely, leaf.

This post isn't HUGE, but here's a Keep Reading line for the sake of efficiency:

I don't think I've gotten into any groups recently. Like... within the last year, at least? I'm pretty sure the last one I started actively paying attention to was WJSN, and that was either right before Queendom started or somewhere in the middle of it. Basically just in time to hype myself up with "Last Sequence" and then immediately become disappointed with their lack of comeback for more than a year now.

As for what draws me in, if I'm being honest, it's usually that I see a random picture of a member in the group who I find exceptionally attractive to the point that I have a bias before I've even heard their music (Eunha, Dayoung, Choerry, Sunny, Jihyo, Rina, etc), and I go from there. As long as they have more than just one member I think is hot, such as music I like and ideally a company that gives them more than one comeback a year, I'll follow them casually. Sometimes I'll get into a group based on a recommendation directly from a friend (Dreamcatcher, Purple Kiss, Monsta X), or very rarely I find them at random like from a Pandora station (Red Velvet, Itzy).

What I like the most about each group is pretty much always different. The ones I don't follow quite as much have fewer factors I like (Itzy puts on great performances, f(x) had incredible music, G-Idle is full of wild personality). My favorites just have the largest number of things I like. Red Velvet has an enormous discography of mostly hits, they're hot, their fans are relatively chill, and I've seen them in person. Purple Kiss are top tier musicians and have the discography to prove it, they're hot, they give indie vibes, their company seems decent, and they were willing to let go of a member who they weren't utilizing rather than hanging on to her for no good reason. DC has a good company, they're hot and funny, they make tons of content, I got to go to a concert, they have a great fanbase, they nourish my soul, and they have great music.

TL;DR: It depends on the group.

so ludawon left... i don't know whether to be overjoyed that 8 of them renewed or sad that luda and dawon didn't...

obviously i knew C line wouldn't renew, but i was hopeful for ot10. dawon choosing not to renew makes sense, considering her past hiatuses, anxiety, and the overall unhappy vibes i got from her in most of the recent content, but luda was kind of a shock?! luda was popular, part of chocome, and i don't know i figured out of all the members who i was uncertain about she was definitely staying. but then ludawon are best friends, and luda may want to do other things.

i'm ecstatic for ot8 - based on starship's statement it sounds like they'll have more creative space and the dedication these girls have to each other is remarkable. bona, yeoreum, yeonjung, and dayoung all have other things going for them but they really are in this wjsn shit for life.

i'll miss ot10, but will continue to support luda and dawon in their solo endeavors - i wonder if luda will promote with chocome? i do know that idols have continued to promote with their group despite not renewing with the company, so i wonder if luda might choose to do that... anyways i'm excited for what ot8 wjsn give us! demanding a wjsntb comeback since hyunjung, sojung, jiyeon and juyeon all renewed.

Also, I just want to point out: it's so fucking heartbreaking that it almost seems like Starship is using Queendom to emphasize that the China Line ain't coming back, without actually saying it.

The repeated emphasis that LOONA has the most members out of the contestants on the show (12 when if the China Line and the other 2 missing members (Dawon & Bona) were included WJSN would have 13)

WJSN commenting that they don't speak any foreign languages after watching Kep1er – when long term fans have seen them learning Mandarin, Seola even having admitted before that she sleep talks in it after studying it so hard.

Yeoreum admitting she was moved to the main dancer position around 2-3 years ago, either a year after Mei Qi & Xuan Yi left for Produce 101 China and around the last time we saw Cheng Xiao actually perform with them, or the same year we last saw the China Line interacting with the other members in general (Seasons Greetings 2020) and the same year they removed WJSN from their social media descriptions.

I don't understand why Starship just can't come out and say "hey they not coming back but we'll miss them" instead of having the girls out here pretend they never existed besides a yearly happy birthday post. — Seriously, this idea that entertainment companies seem to have that whenever a member leaves the others aren't allowed to talk about them anymore needs to end. They were presumably good friends, they lived and trained with each other for years, can you imagine how difficult it must be for them to go on live tv and act like these friends of theirs never existed?????
