but symptoms of magnesium deficiency include but are not limited to depression, lethargy, anxiety, disordered sleep, etc. and also if you smoke weed or drink alcohol or do basically any drug that makes you feel good, adderall, meth, etc etc that shit will deplete your magnesium also.
in blind studys magnesium supplementation is actually one of the most effective cures to depression... since so many people are deficient in it
so unless you have the luxury of eating huge amounts of nuts, leafy greens, and fruit, then buy some "magnesium glycinate" and take that shit, start with 200mg-250mg, you can take more, probably up to 500mg at a time, or take that amount divided in one day, like if you take a bunch at once it might make you very sleepy, make sure to AVOID "magnesium oxide" as it is the most common form of magnesium and it will not help with these symptoms because the bio availability is very low (itll help digestion but not much else), magnesium advertised with "max bioavailability" is usually good too, but if you arent sure, just get "magnesium glycinate"

Armed with an XRF lead detection tool, Rubin expanded her testing to include a variety of popular toothpaste brands – and what she discovered was alarming. Ninety percent of the toothpastes contained lead, 65 percent had arsenic, nearly half contained mercury and one-third were contaminated with cadmium.
Among the brands found to contain these toxins were well-known names like Crest, Sensodyne, Tom’s of Maine, Dr. Bronner’s, Davids and Dr. Jen. The highest levels of contamination were found in toothpastes containing bentonite clay, a common ingredient used for its purported cleaning properties. Hydroxyapatite and calcium carbonate, other common additives, also showed concerning levels of heavy metals.
The findings are particularly troubling given the lack of stringent regulations governing heavy metal content in toothpaste. While the FDA allows up to 10,000 parts per billion (ppb) of lead in fluoride-free toothpaste and 20,000 ppb in fluoride varieties, these limits are significantly higher than those set by public health advocates. The state of Washington, for instance, has enacted a law limiting lead in toothpaste to 1,000 ppb, a threshold that several of the tested brands exceeded.
Despite the findings, most companies have not committed to removing lead and other heavy metals from their products. Some have defended their products by arguing that trace amounts of lead are unavoidable due to environmental exposure, while others have dismissed the detected levels as insignificant. Rubin said several companies even sent her cease-and-desist letters, which she ignored and posted on her blog.

Algorithm used on Mars rover helps scientists on Earth see data in a new way
A new algorithm tested on NASA's Perseverance Rover on Mars may lead to better forecasting of hurricanes, wildfires, and other extreme weather events that impact millions globally.
Georgia Tech Ph.D. student Austin P. Wright is first author of a paper that introduces Nested Fusion. The new algorithm improves scientists' ability to search for past signs of life on the Martian surface.
This innovation supports NASA's Mars 2020 mission. In addition, scientists from other fields working with large, overlapping datasets can use Nested Fusion's methods for their studies.
Wright presented Nested Fusion at the 2024 International Conference on Knowledge Discovery and Data Mining (KDD 2024) where it was a runner-up for the best paper award. The work is published in the journal Proceedings of the 30th ACM SIGKDD Conference on Knowledge Discovery and Data Mining.
"Nested Fusion is really useful for researchers in many different domains, not just NASA scientists," said Wright. "The method visualizes complex datasets that can be difficult to get an overall view of during the initial exploratory stages of analysis."
Nested Fusion combines datasets with different resolutions to produce a single, high-resolution visual distribution. Using this method, NASA scientists can more easily analyze multiple datasets from various sources at the same time. This can lead to faster studies of Mars' surface composition to find clues of previous life.
The algorithm demonstrates how data science impacts traditional scientific fields like chemistry, biology, and geology.
Even further, Wright is developing Nested Fusion applications to model shifting climate patterns, plant and animal life, and other concepts in the earth sciences. The same method can combine overlapping datasets from satellite imagery, biomarkers, and climate data.
"Users have extended Nested Fusion and similar algorithms toward earth science contexts, which we have received very positive feedback," said Wright, who studies machine learning (ML) at Georgia Tech.
"Cross-correlational analysis takes a long time to do and is not done in the initial stages of research when patterns appear and form new hypotheses. Nested Fusion enables people to discover these patterns much earlier."
Wright is the data science and ML lead for PIXLISE, the software that NASA JPL scientists use to study data from the Mars Perseverance Rover.
Perseverance uses its Planetary Instrument for X-ray Lithochemistry (PIXL) to collect data on mineral composition of Mars' surface. PIXL's two main tools that accomplish this are its X-ray Fluorescence (XRF) Spectrometer and Multi-Context Camera (MCC).
When PIXL scans a target area, it creates two co-aligned datasets from the components. XRF collects a sample's fine-scale elemental composition. MCC produces images of a sample to gather visual and physical details like size and shape.
A single XRF spectrum corresponds to approximately 100 MCC imaging pixels for every scan point. Each tool's unique resolution makes mapping between overlapping data layers challenging. However, Wright and his collaborators designed Nested Fusion to overcome this hurdle.
In addition to progressing data science, Nested Fusion improves NASA scientists' workflow. Using the method, a single scientist can form an initial estimate of a sample's mineral composition in a matter of hours. Before Nested Fusion, the same task required days of collaboration between teams of experts on each different instrument.
"I think one of the biggest lessons I have taken from this work is that it is valuable to always ground my ML and data science problems in actual, concrete use cases of our collaborators," Wright said.
"I learn from collaborators what parts of data analysis are important to them and the challenges they face. By understanding these issues, we can discover new ways of formalizing and framing problems in data science."
Nested Fusion won runner-up for the best paper in the applied data science track. Hundreds of other papers were presented at the conference's research track, workshops, and tutorials.
Wright's mentors, Scott Davidoff and Polo Chau, co-authored the Nested Fusion paper. Davidoff is a principal research scientist at the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory. Chau is a professor at the Georgia Tech School of Computational Science and Engineering (CSE).
"I was extremely happy that this work was recognized with the best paper runner-up award," Wright said. "This kind of applied work can sometimes be hard to find the right academic home, so finding communities that appreciate this work is very encouraging."

I have Corelle plates and love them, so I was surprised and curious about this one. (Mine aren't vintage, though, so I'm happy to be able to continue loving and using them without concern.) Still, I wanted to know more, so I dug up this writeup above that has much more information about why the leaded dishes were a problem, what you can do about the potential for lead in vintage flatware, and how to assess risk for Corelle plates specifically.
That link does mention lead testing in vintage Corelle plates from Tamara Rubin over at Lead Safe Mama, and in fact Rubin is the source of that graphic above about which dish you used as a kid. However, Rubin's testing platform uses an XRF machine to assess lead levels in household products, and that's not actually a measure of whether lead can or does leach out of flatware. We know there's lead in those plates already; the question is whether or not it's essentially inert underneath the layer of clear glass that separates the design from the surface of the plate.
(Rubin has also been repeatedly criticized for failing to test whether lead ingestion is likely to happen as a result of handling a product containing lead, and for stopping her risk assessment research at the use of the XRF machine to identify whether or not lead is actually present. She has also repeatedly found herself in trouble for financial misconduct.)
Corelle claims that they have submitted their vintage flatware to an independent third company for testing and found that it did not leach lead into the surrounding environment. I can't find a PR announcement to this effect, but I tend to think they're probably correct on this. So if that glass coating remains intact, i.e. if the plate is not chipped, worn out, or damaged, you are probably safe to eat off of vintage Corelle (at least if it was manufactured post-1978), even though lead might be present: because the glass is fired at very high temperatures, it seals the lead within he plate such that the plate is non-risky.
Essentially, lead in this context is kind of like asbestos: if you let it sit sealed away without poking it, it's fairly safe, but if you start fucking with it it will fuck you up good.
