I swear I know you're not google but I was wondering if you'd humor this question bc you read tgcf too, I think, and maybe would know the answer?
Is Ling Weng and the Brocade ghost siblings or lovers? Bc the Brocade got mad when Pei ming suggested she and Xie lian were romantic. But the story made them sound like family instead? Why else would she want him to the a Ghost Supreme? I'm not sure, maybe I need to reread these 1k pages. [fwiw yeah I'm hugely autistic and maybe fixating on the wrong clues sorry] Thank you if you do answer or sorry to be a bother if you dont lollerskates hugs!

Shdjdjdjsjsj sorry for the late reply I’m traveling atm lol but I’m not bothered!! I like getting asks like this 💕
but anyway uh I know they’re def not related the deal was that bai jing aka the guy who died to form the brocade fell in love with ling wen when she came down to the mortal realm one time, and she used this devotion to kill him (or rather. Make him kill himself for her, which then was the blood sacrifice necessary to create the cursed brocade, since he bled all over that burlap sack that he was dumb enough to think was a garment ling wen made for him. at least, according to legend).
and I think she did this bc despite bai jing being a huge himbo he was an amazing general so killing him would help speed up the fall of xuli, and she wanted that. I don’t remember why exactly but I think she just had like a million grudges tbh.
Also bai jing getting jealous would be him still being in love with ling wen, but I don’t think she’s in love with him. I think she probably thinks of him more as a brother or friend if she thinks herself that close to him at all. I think it’s more likely that she just feels sorry for what she did to him and how he doesn’t hate her for it, and that she owes it to him to help him. as for why she wanted him to be a supreme….. I literally don’t remember at all wjdiejdjsjxnsjxj. It might have been one of the loose ends that was never really explained properly. OR she felt giving him more power and autonomy would make up for her killing him. Like a repentance of some sort.
as for the blood thing, well it was created from a blood sacrifice. But I seem to remember that lower level ghosts/curses may have to eat flesh to get stronger, but higher level ghosts don’t have to. (which could then be why qi rong is ridiculed for eating humans, because it’s seen as alike a low thing to do?) but I think the brocade is a rather powerful being so if this is the case I don’t know at what point a ghost is powerful enough to not need to eat flesh. Maybe only supremes (or near supremes lmfao) don’t have to. The OTHER possibility is that yeah some ghosts just like eating flesh? Lmao. But I’m pretty sure blood does make them stronger to some degree. Would probably not matter for someone like hua cheng who’s already super op tho.
But also I actually didn’t know the brocade was considered a ghost. It does say in the wiki that it is, but I thought it was more like a demon, or cursed object, like ruoye. Or would ruoye be considered a ghost? Or maybe in tgcf ‘ghost’ is kind of a general term unlike in mdzs where ghosts demons etc all have very separate concrete definitions. Because it’s not like ruoye is xie lians parents souls, I think it was just made from their sacrifice/suicide, and thus contains some of their personalities and desires. (ie. How it loves xie lian and wants to protect him and make him happy. But it isn’t mature enough to be two fully grown human souls. I just think it’s like. Their essence? Or e’ming, which was hua chengs blood sacrifice and so contains some of his personality. The part he didn’t like from when he was young) similarly, the sack that bai jing killed himself in was saturated with his blood, and “essence”, and his love/devotion for ling wen, so the curse that possessed the sack got his devotion which is why it’s still loyal to her. If that makes sense.
anyway SORRY I really don’t remember that part of the story all too well either so a lot of this is just speculation. But it is interesting to think about. I will also have to reread lol shdjdj and if anyone else remembers it better feel free to reply !
