it's weird that as a society we want women to take their husband's surnames in marriage so badly, and the ones that do go through this huge, complicated process to do it. they contact every bureau and bank and insurance company, replace every important legal document that they've had since birth, etc etc. but they get divorced, and we're like "ok, now give it back it's not yours".

like......yes it is. it's their name, legally. they didn't inherently become an extension of their husband by taking this name, they're still a separate, autonomous person. the name molds itself to the person, it's the name that takes on a new meaning, not vice versa.

olivia was her own person when she was married and shared the name with Ethan, and she still is now that they're divorced. that will always be true, regardless of what name she goes by.

idk I'm having a hard time articulating exactly what I want to say. as someone who chose to share a name with my spouse, I just really resent the idea that it's only "mine" as long as he's cool with it, like no. I did the work to change my name, it's not on loan to me, just like my maiden name wasn't because i got married. I decide who I am and what I'm called, not my father or husband or any man, because I am an extension of no one.

OMG OK so in response to your request for gushing about fave Termina characters I am here to plead my case for my most beloved Marcoh!!!!!!! This is probably wishful thinking but I am fully convinced this man is a homosexual and it just fits so well with his whole being swallowed by guilt thing, trying to be hyper masculine and fighting but he's SENSITIVE OK. This all started when I saw his moonscorched form continue to just lament his guilt and shame.... plus I don't know if it was in an earlier version of the game or what but I'm pretty sure Caligura said something to him (when he confronts him after sleeping) about having some sort of thing with one of his men????? I definitely saw this but it was so long ago I can't remember the logistics but to me it just adds so much more to his character!!!! Or maybe I'm just a sucker for the quiet reserved strong man who is secretly gay and has so much shame about it but is also just so pure of heart and doesn't want any of this PLEASE. Anyway I know this is long and I didn't really say anything but Caligura almost certainly called hm a slur and said something about dallying with one of his men. I actually had a list of sexuality headcanons on my talking blog and had listed Marcoh as aromantic pansexual, purely just for vibes. But your case is VERY compelling!! I actually do love the idea of him being hypermasculine to hide the fact that he’s gay—especially in the 1940s???? There’s a lot one could spin that!!! when i first saw that tattoo, the only thing that came to my mind was this and nothing else. he's a true entertainer™ and i gotta give his 10s for that.
