I had a dang Naruto dream but it fucking hurt. Here's what happened:

One day, chilling with team 10, Sai sees Naruto in the distance. He says "Oh, there's Naruto." And team 10 have been telling Sai about their childhoods and their squad and stuff so feeling nostalgic, Shikamaru starts telling stories about Naruto being a little shit in the academy. Sai begins thinking "They all had such carefree, happy childhoods..." And then he's frozen and silent. Shikamaru and Ino ask Sai if he's alright, but it's clear he's about to go off. Sai feels all of that anger that's been pushed down inside since childhood. Many repressed memories come flooding back. Assassinations, a child drenched in blood, his brother Shin, everything. Naruto comes closer, InoShikaCho become increasingly nervous. It finally happens. Sai snaps. He lunges at Naruto and lashes out, screaming. No one understands what's happening. Sai and Naruto fight hard using taijutsu. Shikamaru comments that Naruto is lucky Sai doesn't carry his blood soaked tanto anymore. Ino comments that she had never seen Sai use his taijutsu to its full extent. Sai screams, "My brother and I killed terrorists and rogue ninja while you took everything for granted! We suffered so you could paint on academy walls and follow your desires! Who do you think kept the peace for you behind the curtain?! Do you know at all what children your age and younger were forced to do to keep you safe?!" The fight continues. Naruto screams that he has no idea what Sai is talking about. Yamato appears. "I knew this would happen one day. Sai has finally realized just how furious he is. All for the memories and anger he pushed down so deep has come out again." Yamato tries to restrain Sai using his wood style. Sai's frenzy is too strong and he bursts out like it's made of paper. Kakashi steps in. He stops Sai with chidori, and Sai struggles before passing out. Yamato explains what Root/The Foundation does to kids like Sai and Shin, and what their job really was. Ino and Shikamaru take Sai to the hospital. His injuries are healed and he's admitted for a month to undergo intensive PTSD therapy. Kakashi helps Naruto to the hospital. He's fine after almost a week. Ino stays with Sai all day when his physical wounds are healing, just as he had done for her when she was hospitalized. She then visited him every day during his month of mental care. Yamato and Kakashi visit him too, and so does Shikamaru. Naruto pops in once to say he forgives Sai. A month later, Sai is discharged, but he still goes to therapy on Mondays and Thursdays and has medication Ino helps him remember to take. On the bright side, his old feelings were acknowledged and expressed, and he's now receiving the health care he needs, and some triggers were identified so as to prevent another episode. Ino and Shikamaru spend a lot of time with Sai, especially Ino, and they support him and teach him all sorts of things.

Having a child had been a dream of Yamato’s for a few years now. Ever since he met Iruka and realized that there was someone in the world that he wanted to spend the rest of his life with, he couldn’t stop thinking of the baby that they could have.

Little feet running around their future home.

Early morning wake-ups with cheers of laughter.

A curious, growing mind asking him wide eyes questions.

The thought of having a child had made his heart hammer with excitement, so when Iruka had brought up the idea just over a year ago Yamato jumped at the chance.

Which is how he found himself in his current situation. Standing in a hospital room with his husband by his side and his best friend right behind him ready to catch him if he fainted.

At first he had thought his Senpai was joking when he said that, but now that Shizune had given birth and Sakura was wrapping up his newborn child in a blanket, he could feel his knees getting weak and his head starting to swim.

He might actually need his Senpai to catch him after all.

“Cha!” Spinning around in her spot, Sakura held out the small bundle towards Yamato and Iruka. “It’s a baby boy! Congratulations Sensi! Taicho!”

A baby boy.

He could hardly believe it. He was a father.

“Mah,” an arm came down on his shoulder, pulling his attention over to his best friend. “Nakano and Mirai finally have a friend.”

The smile dropped off of Yamato’s face.

“I’m trying to enjoy the moment, Senpai,” He scolded the older man. “Don’t remind me that he’ll grow up beside your disaster daughter.”

He adored Nakano. Of course, he did, but it was true. At the age of two, she was already showing signs of being a volatile mixture of Kakashi and Gai’s worst personality traits, and he was not equipped to deal with that more than three hours a week.

“I think it’s good,” Iruka offered a comforting smile when Yamato glanced his way, “One more positive influence in Nakano’s life can’t be a bad thing. Especially with a dad like Kakashi.”

He knew there was a reason he had married Iruka, and the sputtering mess of a Senpai behind him only confirmed that it was a great choice.

“So, do you have a name picked out?” Sakura asked, her arms slowly stretching out to offer them their newborn. “I hope you picked out a good one.”

A name…” a small smile tugged at Yamato’s lips. “I have the perfect name.”

“Are you still decided on that one?” Iruka asked, his doubt clear on his face. Yamato understood the feeling of course. Passing on a name like that was like asking for trouble.

There was just no better name that he could think of. The trouble would have to be worth it.

A defeated sigh was the only response his husband gave him.

“Well?” Kakashi prodded his side. “What’s his name? Gai is going to want to know as soon as I walk out of the room so that he can greet his new nephew properly.”

Taking a deep breath, Yamato carefully took his son into his arms and looked down at bright brown eyes. “Hello, Kakashi,” he smiled. “I’m your papa.”

In front of him, Sakura’s jaw dropped and Shizune groaned with disappointment. By his side, Iruka ignored everyone else in favour of leaning into his side and waving down at their son.

But behind him? That’s where the best reaction of all was happening.

Peering over his shoulder, Yamato couldn’t help but soften a little when he saw a bright, happy look in his Senpai’s eyes.

“I want him to grow up to be brave and kind,” he began to explain. “Just like the man who saw a kid in need of a friend and reached out to him. Pulled him out of the darkness so that he could live a long and happy life in the light.”

Kakashi’s eyes closed, and for a second Yamato was certain he saw Tears starting to gather in the corners before his Senpai hid his face behind his arm. A last-ditch attempt to cover up the fact that Yamato’s words had managed to hit him deep.

“We just hope he is a little less of a bully.” Iruka finished for him, taking a step to the side so that Kakashi could get a good look at his namesake and barely avoiding the punch aimed for his shoulder. Something that Yamato had no doubt was a kindness on his Senpai’s part since it was unlikely he missed by accident.

“Oh, Tenzo,” Kakashi finally turned his gaze to him. The soft happy look that had been on his face just seconds ago was replaced by one that Yamato knew all too well. A look that produced nothing but a feeling of deep dread. One that he liked to call ‘Senpai’s trouble-making gaze’. “the first thing I’m going to teach him is-“

An aggravated scream from Shizune cut off whatever his Senpai was about to say and forced everyone to turn and look at her.

“Did I really carry a child for nine months and go through an incredibly painful labour just so you could name him after Konoha’s- No, the world's biggest troll? Really!?

Something told him he was never going to live down this choice. None of his friends would let him for one reason or another.

Still, he couldn’t be bothered to care. Not when he had Iruka and his son.

Nothing could ruin his life as long as he had both of them.
