Summer_Knowledge RYM 2022 Wrapped

Okay so I listened to 150 albums for the first time this year. This is more than 2019 (103) and 2021 (114), but less than 2020 (158).

Decade stats:

I think this is the first ever year I listened to more 70's albums than 80's albums. Probably because of my power pop phase, and I haven't been listening to much punk anymore. I owe my 2000's stat to my spring emo pop phase and the Sliscography run-through.

60's: 6

70's: 20

90's: 64

Genre stats:

So these stats are based off of RYM primary genres. I don't count singer-songwriter, though, so if that was the only primary genre on a release I tagged it myself. I listened to 56 different primary genres, out of those, 25 I listened to only once. My top five were:

Power pop: 47

Indie rock: 24

Alternative rock: 24

Pop rock: 20

Indie pop: 13

Other notable to me things about my genre listening is twee pop being at only 10, jangle pop being at only 6, and punk rock being only once. Somehow I listened to avant-folk more. No hardcore this year.

Oh also 16 albums were by Sloan. Previously the biggest discography I listened to was Beat Happening at 6. I am noticing a shift where previously I would listen to one album by an artist, enjoy it, and not try any other releases by them for a longggg time, if ever. But this year I listened to multiple albums by the same artist more frequently.

For 2023 I predict more shoegaze (only 3 this year) more new wave (only 5 this year) ummm. Yeahhhhh. I am manifesting a surf phase but I don't know. I predict that I will listen to less albums overall. I predict that I will listen to more 80s albums next year. Thamnk you Sonemic community and happy new year.
