His whole breathing mortifies him -- the way it races against his will, how it pushes him to the brink despite knowing he had gotten them out to safety. Zara was safe, she was right here with him and yet he could not stop shaking. The way his legs gave into the gravity, how they made him kneel so easily, crumple to the ground... How he could barely keep himself from turning into a useless lump on the ground -- he was pathetic and he hated it.

But he could only try to bring himself some peace, to breathe in and out. All the while hearing Zara reassure him that, yes, they were out... They made it out of BlackCell... of his "father's" grasp...

"We have not. Not yet..." Because the Monarch would keep looking for the... No matter when or where, surely he'd come back and make them suffer. He'd take Zara away... He would, he truly would, wouldn't he? And that was his biggest fear.

"You need to... to hide. I must-- I..."

She pleads! Despite the fault she carries, the crimes and that unending secret, keeping Atom's safety close to her chest -- her steadfast desire to protect his creation from him. Yet, she pleads for him to spare her, to make as if everything was in order. His features soften even further than they had been before, a bittersweet smile forming with a slightly worried expression -- though always with eyes vacant.

"You must understand..." He starts, voice soothing and pleading, articulating the words in a calm manner. "I cannot let you go. Not until my child returns safely home. You see, because of you, he has become a rebel... It wears me down, it worries me because this is not him. And I need him back, truly back -- he has to be corrected. You've tied my hands with your actions..."

He walks around, watching over her. Despite being held captive, despite the subtleties in pain he had planted over her, she was still responsive and she still kept Atom protected. But there was no way to refute the irrefutable. He knew she was the loose variable that needed to be extinguished for Atom to return. "You know, do you not? You fix people all the time, you can see when they need help. Well, I know my child, I know when he needs to be fixed, too. It's unfair that you'd take him away from me like that... That you would cause him harm, miss Petrova."

Another pause and he stands by her side, a hand placed on her shoulder as he leans over, close to her ear. "So, this is why I cannot let you go. He'll be here soon. It seems he cannot resist you. Quite the specimen you are, I might just spare you..." Or rather use her, but he wouldn't voice that. The eerie softness of his voice and demeanor were a stark contrast to what he had in mind for her, and what he had already done, though he had been careful not to toy with her much yet. He needed Atom here, first. He was essentially biding his time.

Monet meets meme This is probably the most delightful art history book in history--the perfect marriage of artist and mews. Artist Petrova is amazingly talented. Mews Zarathustra is a charming (typically feline) and cooperative (atypically feline) model and informative if perhaps not entirely reliable narrator of the history of art. He explains why Mona Lisa is smiling (she's holding a kitty, duh!) and answers the burning question of "do cats like flowers? (not as much as food, duh!), and rights history's many wrongs in its exclusion of cats' roles in world events. Purrfect for the art lover or cat lover in your life. Everything is improved by a ginger cat! I first discovered Svetlana Petrova's Fat Cat Art through her version of Dali's Persistence of Memory, which I loved. I wanted to buy a print of it, but the shipping charges from Russia were more than I was willing to pay. Recently I found tiny card versions of Fat Cat Art in a museum shop - these were too small to be of use but it prompted me to see what Amazon had, and I found this book. Go to Amazon

Entertaining, Educational, and the Great Z! I have bought at least eight of these for gifts. This is an absolutely wonderful book. I even learned some things about art history! I love that the author wants to educate along with entertaining. Zarathursta is the best. The text is sometimes a bit convoluted-- Z narrates and employes the royal We to explain the origin of the "true" versions of the paintings-- but that is a minor point. The attention to detail and composition is incredible. Ms. Petrova is to be commended if not raised on our shoulders and carried through town to the cheers of the populace. Long live Zarathrusta! Exposing his body is no unknown feat to him. Many times had he needed to show himself, to appear vulnerable. Always, always for the sake of the mission.

Yet Zara had never been a mission. Not even close, despite him having been exposed to her since their very first meeting. So, being conscious, understanding that the person before him has control as of now, that they can see him -- all of him without a real reason. He had no goals, no objectives except receiving the care of the person he wanted to care for, instead.

Being on the receiving end and feeling lost... Oh, it was quite the sensation, a pleasant storm. He sat on the hospital bed, gloved hands grasping onto the fabric of his pants, desperately trying to avoid pushing away the woman's hands tracing his upper exposed body, how she slid that soft towel against both wounded and stained skin.

Small winces come and go, though he stays relatively still. It's the fact that it is her who is giving him the treatment -- and that he is conscious about it -- that keeps him on his toes, muscles tense, despite wanting it to last. He wonders what he should do, what he should say... Maybe, he shouldn't even had shown himself so bloodied, staining her hospital with the blood of his enemies and his own once again. Did he ever learn?

"It's a burden, isn't it?" The signs come hastily, mechanically as he avoids facing her, but refuses to move away.

"Forgive me," he manages to whisper. True enough, even though he wants to take care of that woman, he definitely wants Zara to take care of him, too. He could get used to this feeling, if he only could wipe the guilt away.

Zara Petrova | 27 | Nurse / Medical assistant | Fc:Adelaïde Kane | Zara lives at the Colony and is daughter to Abby and Henry. She used to live at The Colony with both her parents before her mother decided to go work for the Capital. Zara's father was against this decision and decided to stay behind, keeping his 8 years old daughter with him. Zara grew up in a small apartment with him until someday when she was 17, he disappeared. Zara looked for him everywhere, the Guards wouldn't help because they never cared about the Colonists. She came to the conclusion that he got executed by one of the guards for breaking curfew or got himself killed by a Nomad. His reasons are unknown, Zara guessed it was because he had a lover somewhere and sneaked out at night. The first months alone were difficult but she managed and learned everything she knows about medicine by reading her mother's books. She had no tv or ways to entertain herself but she had found a passion.

Later in life Zara became a nurse, wanting nothing more than to help others and be useful in the Colony. She met Javi, one of the leads doctor. Passion driven, her whole life is at the med bay where she meets Ignacio. She is in a relationship with Ignacio, Javi's brother and is the adoptive mother to Hope, which she almost immediately accepted when she broke into Ignacio's place for shelter. She shows herself very protective when a Nomad tries to kidnap Hope to take her back to the Capital and is very supportive of her friends and boyfriend.

She's known for making risky choices and being selfless (except when it comes to Nomads. Fuck 'em)

Can he do it? Was she speaking seriously or did she not know the extent of his actions? The way his hands remain stained with blood even after appearing crystal clear. Even gloved up, even as he seems peaceful, calm. He could never deny his nature.

But she allowed herself to be vulnerable with him. She allowed him to approach, like humans did oftentimes, like friends, couples, even acquaintances would do. There's a warm sensation in his chest he fails to comprehend, but he raises his hand.

That hand travels, reaching for the girl's, being careful to grip it. It was all he could do, all he allowed himself to give. With his free one, he signs back at her, wary.

"Only your hand. Only that." Everything else was too sacred.

Atom thought to check and double-check before jumping to conclusions. He was taught not to follow emotions, instincts, only facts. And those facts he had to look for, always. So, he ignored the sensation rising from his chest, an ember that was burning him up the more he revised. She wasn't at work, she wasn't at home, not at the shops she frequented, not visiting friends... She was nowhere. In fact, her coworkers had been wondering about her, calling but receiving no response. Something was wrong.

...And though he didn't want to accept it, he knew exactly where she was.

Many a time had they told him to dispose of her, to erase her, to stop visiting... And he thought he had done a good job at hiding the fact that he hadn't lift a finger against her -- not to harm her, anyway. Somehow, he had let his guard down, thinking his handlers would not care to dispose of a civilian nurse... He should've known they would not leave space for casualties, for errors, for loose variables. To them, that's what she was. What he saw as a blessing, the light of a seemingly never-ending tunnel he didn't know he was in, they saw as the disruption of their calculated chaos.

Surely, The Monarch wouldn't stand idly by, not if Zara was at the facility or any of their adjacent bases.

The rush increases, the adrenaline. Zara didn't belong in a place like that, held by them. Somehow, though it was all he knew, he was convinced that the actions induced and wielded against him should not be delivered upon such a gentle soul. No, not Zara. He had to move, it was already a given that he had wasted time with false hope. Ah, his handlers had been right; always follow logic...

Atom moved out and, the closer he got to the facility, the more he felt an emptying sensation -- a sense of dread, maybe. It was the moment he reached out for the door at the furthest end of the facility that he noticed his hand was shaking. Odd, it never shook like that before... No matter, he opened the door and what he found caused for his eyes to widen, the heart he thought dead jumping in concern, a rush of blood, a rage, worry...

"Zara..." he whispered while running to her, a hand placed gently over her shoulders as the other tries to lift her head slightly to make eye contact. She was wrapped on a seat, made a mess, but she was alone... and that was concerning. "Can you hear me?"

It was either that or having her end up getting soaked herself. Of course, that second choice was out of the question. He lets out a slight grunt as he keeps the small umbrella steady over her, hoping she'd understand that as his answer. He was ready to lead her out of the hospital and into the parking lot. It wasn't that far away, after all, despite the pouring rain falling so relentlessly. A storm was coming, but that was the least of Atom's problems.

"Stay close," he signs to her with his free hand, eyes studying her and the position of the umbrella overhead. He'd keep it perfectly steady every step of the way. No, he did not care to get himself, his props, or his mask soaked. Many a time had he fought in the rain, after all, but he'd keep that to himself.
