Question for plant-drawing purposes- is the Puca's field made exclusively of wheat or corn of a mix of the two? I see it drawn as a wheat field in your art and described as a wheat/rye field but also two times in the book there are references to corn stalks/it's called a cornfield. It's kinda funny to imagine Puck growing a bunch of teosinte or something. Thanks!
Hi! It is mixed grain in general but mostly consists of barley with some wheat elements. Barley is a bigger crop in that region than wheat.
However! You hit on one of my deliberate hibernoenglish language choices hehe. 'Corn' in europe is any grain - it's a blanket term similar to 'meal'. If we want to talk about maize, from the Americas, we'd say maize or sweetcorn. The Púca's field of corn is not maize

Maize is one of the world's most widely grown crops. It is used for both human and animal foods and holds great cultural significance, especially for indigenous peoples in the Americas. Yet despite its importance, the origins of the grain have been hotly debated for more than a century. Now new research, published Dec. 1 in Science, shows that all modern maize descends from a hybrid created just over 5,000 years ago in central Mexico, thousands of years after the plant was first domesticated. The work has implications both for improving one of the world's most important crops and for understanding how the histories of people and their crops influence each other.

Vargas is among farmers in Mexico who’ve been holding on to heirloom strains for generations, against a flood of industrially produced white corn. They’re finding a niche but increasing market among consumers seeking organic produce from small-scale growers and chefs worldwide who want to elevate or simply provide an authentic take on tortillas, tostadas and other corn-based pillars of Mexican food. Corn is the most fundamental ingredient of Mexican cuisine, and it’s never far from the national conversation. Amid President Andrés Manuel López Obrador’s move to ban the importation of genetically modified corn and his imposition of a 50% tariff on imported white corn, some scientists, chefs and others are advocating for the value of the old varieties in an increasingly drought-stricken world. Heirloom varieties make up far less than 1% of total domestic corn production in Mexico. But for the first time in years, Vargas and others are hopeful about the crop. Some in the academic and public sectors hope to increase its production.
[...]
Across Mexico, about 60,000 tons of heirloom corn is produced annually. It’s a tiny fraction of the 23 million tons of white corn grown on an industrial scale to meet domestic demand for human consumption and the 16.5 million tons of yellow corn that Mexico imported last year — mostly from the U.S. — for industrial and animal feed use.
