Although Diana can be a lil withdrawn, Alice’s optimistic and excitable personality really brings out the best in her!! They do almost everything together: Baking, stargazing, long walks on the beach, vivisecting people…

Lady is a cold-hearted scientist who would do anything in the name of science even if she has to commit horrible actions. After all, in the end, this is for the better of the world even if she has the break a few hundred eggs to get the results she wants. Who else would sacrifice the things she has to get to this point? Who would go to such extremes to the point of the only thing you have left is your work and your name? Well. Lady would even from a young age this was the case her whole life pretty much leading her to the point she is now. Her twin sister didn’t even get in the way of her goals. Being one of the first to figure out how to use science to manipulate magic due to this headset of hers

This pretty much led Lady to be ‘respected’ or feared more then anything in her workplace with the actions she has committed. Lady being responsible for hundreds of documents, subjects, and scientific discoveries to be made. While also being responsible for hundreds of families to be torn apart.. Lives to be lost… people being driven insane due to her experiments… Obviously, this has bitten Lady in the ass many MANY times. With subjects escaping and attacking her when they get the chance, but of course, they never go far and just end back in Lady’s grasp.

one fine day at the end of january 2021, I started panicking about the day I no longer had any ideas for the untamed gifsets, so I decided to challenge myself by starting a get to know me meme (see post here). I gave myself 100 sets to do - fully expecting to never ever finish them. 

BUT!

And would you recommend reading the books first or watching the show first? Or do both simultaneously? 😂 Also this is a little embarrassing, but I have no idea what’s it about, I’ve only ever heard people mention the name and that they liked it 😅

Soooo, ADOW is basically all the things I love most all put in one book series. Like I’m gonna be honest, I could gush about this series forever. So I’m going to try to be concise in this answer and if you want to DM me for full scale ranting, you’re more than welcome.

The main character is a woman named Dr Diana Bishop, who is a college professor. She’s on the younger side for her field but not a phenom or anything (I think she’s supposed to be 33 in book 1 but somebody correct me if I’m wrong on that). Diana is a NERD. Like yes she has athletic hobbies, but the woman is an undeniable geek in all the right ways. That was huge for me when I found the book about ten years ago. I needed to see that part of my personality reflected in a heroine and hadn’t yet (don’t come at me with Hermione Granger, because I never identified with her while growing up on HP - I identified with forgotten fuck up child Ron Weasley). Additionally, and very importantly, Diana is descended from Bridget Bishop, who was the first victim of the Salem Witch Panic of 1692. These are books in which magic is not only real - it is dying.

Enter the vampire Matthew Clairmont. Our romantic lead is dashing, dangerous, handsome, intelligent, mysterious, and everything else you ever wanted from the leading man in a romance novel. Matthew is also a nerdy ass academic, but his nerdiness is less obvious than Diana’s. We come to find out that Matthew’s research revolves around mapping the DNA of supernatural creatures, as he is trying to discover how/why they are dying off.

Diana and Matthew *learn* from each other. They grow together. They are stubborn, proud, occasionally argumentative, generous, caring, loving people who the world does not want to be together and they say FUCK YOU and do it anyway.

I’ll be honest. When I found the book in the bookshop, I skimmed the back cover and went “History and magic? Cool” and picked it up just thinking it would be something to pass a few hours. But Deborah Harkness’s ability to world build and present full formed characters in small snapshots is remarkable. The families that surround Diana and Matthew are enviable and fascinating.

It’s a world I wish I could see around me - and I can if I choose to. Because ADOW doesn’t take place in an alternate reality, it explains how the world of magic and creatures is hidden from humans. It is *made* for readers and fan content creators to just dig right into and nestle inside, carving out their own little pieces of home. I don’t know why I’ve never written for it. I always say that it’s time to try and yet I haven’t. Perhaps I just haven’t found the right story to tell yet.

Yes, this is the SHORT version of why I love ADOW. Just the up front familiar facts. This is my dust jacket for you to pick up in the bookshop and think “Huh. Cool.” But to answer a very important question: I think you should consume the series in whatever order (book vs tv show) best suits your attention span and interest level. But think of them as companions. They go together, one is not a substitute for the other. (I read the books first, obviously, and I love that I did. Watching the show felt like saying hello to a very old friend). And there are also audiobook versions if that’s more your jam!

so since I read Discovery of Witches I've been like...."getting a lot of Dair vibes from this" which is how I consume lots of media these days but that's neither here nor there the thing is, I could see the shape of an au.

Dan Humphrey would be the heroine, Diana Bishop, a History of Science Professor who is just trying to finish a presentation for an upcoming conference, but whoops he's also actually the most specialest witch in the world.

Blair would be Matthew, the centuries old vampire who's gone to Oxford a dozen times and has the doctorates to prove it. She falls ass over head in love with this witch and everybody is just gonna have to DEAL.

I mean, the novel and the following novels dig into the nitty gritty of time travel and evolutionary biology so I don't think you could take the Gossip Girl AU that far....but the character dynamic between the two mains, the doffed way they look out for each other and the slow burn of their feeling and their protectiveness over the other's wellbeing and loving each other even with all their baggage....yeah...

like, there's a scene towards the middle of the book where the witch hosts the vampire for dinner, and they flirt over mythology and discussions of their academic specialties and that is SO dair-coded.

and there's this sequence in the latter half of the book where the creatures-enforcement-squad kidnaps the witch and tortures her because, you know, inter-supernatural species love is verboten because of course it is, and it serves all that delicious, character A's beloved is in danger and they lose their mind plus the hurt/comfort that follows....ahhhhhhh it would be so awesome.

and there's this thing in our dair circle where we talk about dan falling more under the traditional heroine archetype and blair being the prince charming archetype in their relationship, so plugging the spin they already have on a conventional romantic story with all the stuff going on between Diana and Matthew in Discovery of Witches would rock.

other character parallels I've considered for this AU: Lousia = Serena, Blair's vampire sister who dies mysteriously in the 17th century Ysabeau = Lily, Blair's glamorous, blonde and very well-put together vampire mom Blanca = Louis, Blair's first husband, who died before she turned. You know, the 11th season of My Big Fat Fabulous Life is almost here on the day after Labor Day and there's a new trailer.... Things will get heartbreaking and extremely ugly. My first thought of this trailer as Glenn Thore says goodbye his late wife Babs who passed away in December of last year but filmed a damn funeral for tacky reality TV show... That's disgusting, embarrassing, disrespectful, emotionless and super gross, I mean, come on. Funerals are for private used only just like my grandma's celebration of life when I went to Mexico for anniversary prayers to support my mom and also she's more mature than Shit Whit Thore, no livestream or shitty untalented reality TV show. Although they've should used filming butterflies or doves as of sign of Christian or Catholic human went to heaven but the goddamn casket. That's fucking gross and emotionless creepy. Even Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 and 5-part John Aniston tribute episodes on Days of Our Lives is much better emotional than disgusting 11th season premiere of Warner Bros Discovery's worst show that has bad influence towards girls. Girls who was born in the late 80s and early 90s used to be huge fans of Whitney Thore but after that, they'll better off with their childhood heroines The Powerpuff Girls, Totally Spies or even Disney's action comedy Kim Possible, so was pop stars like Beyonce, Janet Jackson, Selena and Taylor Swift. Reddit users are having a field day to continue mocking her hugest fat ass until the show is over for good. Glenn's bucket list when his kids and Shitney's friends are having a whirlwind trip to Switzerland and... Shadow of night by Deborah Harkness

I read this directly after reading the first in the series. It did lend some to the storyline, but overall, it just reminded me I hate historical novels. I am more of an urban fantasy reader.

300 pages in and already annoyed with the menfolk. I am reminded of why I avoid historical romances. Matthew has fallen away from his modern memory, and is treating Diana as if she were from the Elizabethan era and not the educated woman she is. At risk due to a jealous ass of his friend, who has attempted to stir witchcraft sentiments against her in a time and place where witches were burned!! I seethe, as all could have been avoided if her was listening and respecting her intelligence. Men.ugh

In this follow up to A Discovery of Witches, we find our leads Diana and Matthew time walking back to Elizabethan England. With a jealous wannabe paramour for Matthew, active witch hunts, and time appropriate intrigue, it drags a bit. Matthew is once again keeping too many secrets, but Diana is finally learning her own abilities. We meet Philippe and Stephan, and see both leads get some closure with their fathers. Diana changes history by being herself. We met lots of major historical players that were apparently Matthew's friends. That man sure involves himself in major events for someone changing lives so often. All in all, it was a decent book, and while long winded, did lend depth to the storyline.

Yo, if y'all havent watched/ readA Discovery of Witches or havent heard about it you really gotta step up. It's so fucking good I loved the books so much and when I hear of a film adaption of a book. THIS is what I mean. It's perfect in every way and the actors bring to life these characters I love so much. It's honestly a great series and I just cant wait until we can watch season 2 in the US!! I swear I'm going to spontaneously combust from how excited I am about it all. If anyone has watched it and wants to discuss it with me you're more than welcome!!

Long post!

Marinette appears totally different in Paris, after 3 months gone and everyone is shocked.

We have seen all of this in the one-shot/prequel (HERE), so we’re understood so far.

But what happens to make this drastic change in Marinette's look?

Well, let's go back to when Fu makes Mari a guardian for good and loses the memories of the miraculous, in addition to finally meeting his love.

And here the canon dies. RIP

(Going to the current plot.)

Mari is losing her shit, having lost the only adult person who supported her in heroin life and who helped (poorly) in the most complicated situations.

So here it is: Marinette Dupain-Cheng, 13, collège student, part-time heroine, aspiring designer, class representative and now guardian of very powerful magical jewels.

AH! And a nanny. We can't forget that!

The poor girl doesn't have a minute's peace in this house.

She won't even talk about ugh, Lila, because at that moment the Italian was just a fly on the pile of garbage she had to deal with.

So, she turns to the only possible person in this situation, even though she is afraid of previous behavior.

Chat Noir. Yeee

And she's like, "chat, we need to talk." And he: “omg she will confess”

In the end Ladybug tears up Chat Noir and manages to make the hero understand her side, promising to help.

Marinette spends a few months testing the cat, to see if he slips, but to her relief (because she loved that kitty, even if she didn't say it) he remains steadfast.

They reveal the identities and awkward moment omg

Adrien may have screamed a little like a fan with his idol

Mari may have passed out.

(not that any of them will confess that)

They have a heart for a heart.

Mari no longer in love with Adrien and Adrien trying to overcome Ladybug at that point.

When hawkbeetch decides to attack harder, the two agree that they needed help permanently.

Alya was cut off as soon as the idea was put on the table.

The first ones chosen are Alix, Luka and Kagami

Over time Max and Kim also came back

There was uncertainty in choosing who had been chosen before, but magic was able to supply the uncertainties, since when transformed they were no longer the unmasked heroes

The situation with Lila and because of Alya, Nino is also cut.

So, Chloe makes a 160, apologizes to Marinette looking really sorry and wanting to change

Félix also returns to study at Dupont, after Adrien complains to him about Gabriel forcing Lila into the teenager

With that, the team closes on 9 permanent heroes, but that not all of them always appeared in the fights.

They manage to deal with akumas-hawkdude for a while, but when mayura appears more and more in fights things get worse

It was Max's idea to contact JL for help and so they get batfamily's attention

Batman sends Robin and Red Robin to help closely, while the rest were helping from Gotham

There were some disagreements between Ladybug and Robin, since the vigilante was very... annoying. Not to say worse, she had no patience to put up with the boy's arrogant ass.

As for Red Robin, everyone loved him.

(Max may have had some personal discoveries after meeting the guy)

Time passed, Robin became Reynard

And even with the help of the batboys, finding out who the mothman was became increasingly frustrating.

Everyone came to the conclusion that the magic was much greater in camouflage than they thought before

In that they reach half of the Lycée without any advantage over the villain

Alix and Chloe dating since 14

Marinette and Luka started dating when the girl turned 15, Damian joining the relationship a few months later after pining (of the three)

Félix and Kagami only started to see themselves as something more than friends after they turned 16

Kim and Max being the youngest to start dating, at 13

Adrien only met Jon after identities were shared between the team, he was 16 years old

The identities being shared were entirely accidental. All of them having used their powers and without time to hide from each other, the transformations fell

Finding out who the batfamily was, was easy after that.

Things continued at an impasse until Marinette found Diana Prince on one of the galas in Gotham.

And worlds were opened for the little guardian.

"Oh." The woman murmured; her eyes fixed on Marinette.

Bruce had introduced them both after Diana showed curiosity about the two people with Damian.

"Guardian."

Marinette released the woman's hand as if she had been shocked. Panic running through her veins. Damian and Luka stood up alert.

"What- No. My name is Marinette." She replied nervously.

Diana noticed the girl's behavior, as well as that of the other two boys, and relaxed her posture in a more friendly one.

“My apologies, Marinette. I didn't mean to scare you like that.” The woman took the girl's hand again in hers. A kind smile on her face. "I could feel the power in you since my mother was the former bearer of the goddess Tikki."

The three teenagers gasped in surprise.

"Rreally?" Marinette sighed; her eyes wide.

Diana laughed softly, finding the girl cute. "Yes." But the smile gave way to a confused expression. "But you shouldn't be surprised, since you're the guardian."

"Ah..." Marinette was suddenly shy. The eyes across the room, except for the woman. “I didn't get to finish my training. Master F- the former guardian was obliged to pass on his duty before training me.”

Diana's face contorted in regret before her eyes lit up with an idea. A wonderful one.

"Marinette, I believe I have the perfect solution for this."

And the girl felt her heart race with hope.

With that, Diana offered training to her and the other miraculous heroines in Themyscira and Mari accepted after talking to her friends.

Arthur Curry, at Diana's request, also appeared offering training for the boys and a plan was formed.

They just needed a little more luck... or money.

Bruce, managed to put Dupont as a priority on the Parisian government's reform list

And with more help, Zatanna agreed to stay in Paris to stop Hawkmoth from attacking.

I'm not going to explain this part much here because I'm writing a fanfiction about it. So let's go to some headcanons about this plot.

In this AU I will be working with the hypothesis that the miraculous have limitations, because the heroes have not yet matured. Whether in age or mentality. They are still "children".

That wielding jewelry has side effects like: slow aging. Too slow. Which ends up affecting teenagers, since most were children/pre-teens when they became heroes.

Kwamis are, in fact, the first gods in the world. They are the origin of the universe.
