Moulin Rouge Discotrain AU (part thirteen)

Summary: (Post-game canon) The Conductor and DJ Grooves agree to finally work on a movie together. They come up with 'Moulin Rouge', a musical drama filled with romance. Over time the two directors grow closer and discover that maybe they don't hate each other as much.

Author's notes: I had to put a small interval in before I get to the part I've been looking forward to most. So tomorrow will herald the Elephant Love Medley chapter.

"I watched some more of your movies by the way," Grooves said.

Conductor looked over at him, the two of them packing up their things for the evening.

"Really?"

"Yeah. They're actually pretty good," Grooves replied, flashing a smile.

Conductor's cheeks warmed and his feathers ruffled slightly.

"I- Of course. There's a reason I won all of, um, all of those awards," Conductor stammered, hoping he didn't sound like he cared as much as he did.

Grooves let out a huff of laughter, picking up Conductor's satchel. "Well, at least you're properly coming back to mine this time. Wait-"

The penguin paused, putting the satchel back down and taking off his jacket. He draped it around the owl's shoulders before picking up the bag again.

"There. To keep you from freezing again."

Conductor chuckled, slipping his arms into the warm, red fabric.

"Peck, where do yer buy this thing from? The fabric is the best," Conductor sighed, snuggling further into the jacket.

"Get a room you two!" Snatcher called, walking past on the other side of the reception, Empress a step behind him.

"Remember our conversation, director!" Empress added, the two of them high-fiving as they exited the building.

"What was she talkin' about?" Conductor questioned, looking up at his friend.

"I'll tell you some other time."

Conductor shrugged, pulling the jacket tighter around him.

"Seriously though, I love this thing, it's the best," Conductor repeated, resulting in a chuckle from Grooves.

"You can keep that one if you want, I've got other jackets just like it," Grooves explained. "I bought some after the cinema incident."

"Oh so that's what we're calling it now?" Conductor asked with a laugh as they left the studio.

Grooves exhaled deeply, breath fogging in the cold air. "Well, what do you want to call it?"

"That time yer decided to rent out an entire pecking cinema room for me?! Just because I was a little bit sad?" Conductor responded, turning and leaning on his toes towards Grooves. "Real funny Grooves. Sure, call it the cinema incident if you want."

"Back to mine then?"

"Yeah, let's go before I catch a cold."

"Nice to be properly invited this time," Conductor teased. "But why is there no heating?!"

"I told you, I'm used to the cold," Grooves protested. "Just keep the jacket on if you're cold."

Conductor paused, looking around the apartment as he put his satchel down on the floor.

The carpet of the room was dark blue, contrasting the lavender coloured walls.

The various pieces of furniture ranged from shades of grey right through to black and white.

A few posters from Grooves' movies covered the walls, along with framed photos of bands.

Conductor let out a sigh, flopping onto the sofa and curling in on himself to try and keep warm.

"Are you really that cold?" Grooves asked, concern tinting his voice.

"I mean, yes. It's the middle of autumn for peck's sake," Conductor swore, scowling up at his friend.

"You want me to take pity on you and get you something warm?" Grooves snickered.

"No, don't take pity on me!" Conductor replied, crossing his arms over his chest.

Grooves raised an eyebrow.

"But yes, I'd like something warm. Please," the yellow bird continued, tucking his hands further into the sleeves.

Grooves sighed loudly, walking into a different room. "Fine. Because you said please."

"You need me to tuck you in as well?" Grooves joked as he walked back in, a couple blankets tucked under his arms.

"No, I'm a grown bird. Need me to tuck you in?" Conductor shot back.

Grooves chucked both the blankets over Conductor before sitting down at the other end.

"Why do you wear platform shoes?"

Grooves looked over at him as Conductor nestled himself further into what was now practically a cocoon of warmth.

"I've worn them for years so it would feel weird to not wear them anymore. That and it fits with the whole figure I've built up for myself," Grooves explained, taking off the shoes in question before lying down beside Conductor.

"And…I don't understand how you aren't boiling to death," Grooves said, resting his head atop the blanket pile.

"Shut up," Conductor laughed, playfully poking Grooves in the side.

"So, what's the plan?"

"Maybe go over a couple scenes, get drunk and then try and practise songs."

"Get drunk? On what, I don't keep alcohol in the house."

"I bought alcohol."

"Why am I surprised?"

"Don't be like that," Conductor huffed and Grooves lifted his head up.

"Like what?"

"Judgy of my tastes."

"I'm not!" Grooves protested, sitting up. "I'm not! It just surprises me that you brought a bottle of alcohol."

"Fine. I might take a nap first, today was really long and tiring," Conductor said, curling back into his nest of warmth.

"Take as long as you need. I'll wake you up if something happens."

On one hand, I told myself I'd have the Conductor win in my replay for the gaming experience.

I whittled again! Mostly small things to get back into it. I cut a few 1x1x2 inch blocks following the Linker series. Only to then notice that my knife is big enough to make it a bit of a hassle, but we lived through it (　＾▽＾)

In chronological order:

The Linker bear. Needed something relatively simple to get back into whittling and if anyone asks, he was meant to be an amputee. I was kind of frustrated at the time due to the aforementioned problems, but he's really grown on me.

Tiny Nijntje/Miffy, whom I whittled for a friend I met for the first time this year! The photo is from my friend, as I forgot to take one before gifting it xD

A bit more complex here, the Conductor from A Hat In Time. Technically not fully finished, as I still want to add the gold trim to the hat, but I'd need a fine gold pen and so that'll probably be a next year thing. Whittled for another friend, gotta see when I meet them to gift it ( *・ω・)ノ

Don't recognize this guy? Then you obviously haven't seen @comicaurora 's latest Journey to the West. This is Sun Wukong, disguised as a messenger demon, delighted at his plan working. That drawing and the one of Jupiter's Rival being surprised that Sun Wukong has the same artifact absolutely sent me! I had to stop the video both times because I was laughing so hard xD

This was probably the most technically challenging whittle of all of them. My knife is curved, so v-cuts are weird and because it's also quite wide, the space between the horns needed some creative solutions. Painting was also kinda weird, since it's really hard to give a 3D object outlines that look decent from more than exactly one angle. I'm still quite happy with him though ( ´^ω^)

I still have quite a few small blocks to get through, we'll see what I'll do with those. These were all basswood, which is nice to carve. I also have bigger blocks of cherry and that is still quite a challenge for my noodly wrists xD

Hat in time nation i come with an offering

I’m making a few redesigns for the cast for funzies. Not because I think the og designs are bad, i just think a few changes could elevate the ideas they were going for. Expect more ahit doodles because the worms in my brain are making me think about this game again. Don’t worry tadc fans! I’m still cooking up a larger comic idea, and expect some more fanart in the future

Author's notes: Ah, Conductor, you're finally being cast. To think this whole thing started because I thought what it could be like if Grooves and Conductor sang the Elephant Love Medley. But, that chapter is yet to come. And apparently I have 100 followers now and I do not know when that happened. Anyway, enjoy!

"What the peck was that?" The Conductor asked, walking up to the shaking penguin.

Pinguini, supposed to be playing the role of Satine, had panicked when he was meant to practice Satine's big entrance on the trapeze.

He was fidgeting with his heart shaped glasses, eyes wide as he looked up at the director.

"I- I don't know, sir. I- nothing like that has- has ever happened before," Pinguini stammered.

Conductor paced back and forth, mentally going over the script in his head.

"We need to find the right actor fer Satine and if you can't do this then yer not fit for the role," Conductor explained, clutching at his remaining threads of patience. "I'm sorry lad but we need the perfect actor for Satine. And you aren't it."

Pinguini pulled himself together enough to nod, before swallowing nervously, standing abruptly, and rushing off in the direction of the bathroom.

"Um, sir? Sorry to interrupt but everyone's waiting on the scene for Satine's entrance," a nearby owl stated.

The Conductor took a deep breath, looking down at his near memorised script before up at the trapeze rig.

He remembered the first half of Satine's entrance, it was only after she then asked Christian to dance that his memory of lines went fuzzy.

But they weren't practising that part now.

They were only practising the first part.

"Peck it all," he muttered, beginning to take off his coat. "Look after this. Let everyone know that we start in just a minute. And find me Grooves! He's meant ta be here already!"

Conductor turned to face Owlice, hovering nearby with a few base outfit things for Satine.

"Right then, kit me up."

"P-pardon sir?" Owlice questioned.

"Well, we've still gotta make sure that the choreography is right so how better than me bein' in there? C'mon lass, we haven't got all day," Conductor explained.

Owlice jumped into action, taking off his hat and positioning the headdress in its place.

"I would recommend removing your waistcoat for mobility sir," Owlice instructed, running a wing through the feathers at the side of his face.

"You'd do perfectly as Satine, if you don't mind me saying sir. I can already see your feathers styled perfectly." The Conductor preened slightly, taking off the waistcoat as told.

"DJ peck neck had better get here soon. He's meant to be practisin' too," Conductor grumbled.

"I'm sure he'll be here soon sir. One of my friends was just finishing his suit measurements," Owlice replied, adjusting her glasses quickly.

"It would be funny, wouldn't it? If you and Mr. Grooves ended up playing the leads, I mean. You've been against one another for so long, it'd be wild to see you playing lovers in a movie together."

Owlice chuckled lightly before looking over at him and coughing. "Sorry, sir, that was out of my place. Um, one of the safety rig team should be up there to help you. I- have to go. And, uh, fit someone's costume."

The Conductor watched her start to scurry off before he began to climb the ladder up to the trapeze rig.

"Hey Mr. Conductor! You standing in for Pinguini?" A penguin asked, holding the trapeze steady as Conductor climbed onto it.

"That's right. Let everyone know that we start in a minute. And someone find DJ pecking Grooves!"
