Hunter was meant to be another GrimWalker in a long line of them but Beloses potion to make him went slightly off plan during an accidental ingredient mix up. So instead of the GrimWalker he was expecting, he got a tiny vampire fledgling who looked exactly like his little brother. Not one to waste an opportunity or consider any work of his to be a failure he decides to keep the experiment curious on how this'll turn out.

When you two meet Hunter is known by everyone as the stoic Golden guard. He goes on night missions for the Emperor and always wears a golden mask and lots of clothing during the day. No one knows what he looks like except for a very small social circle and he is very mysterious to the public despite being known by all as a high ranking Emperor's Coven member. You are from one of the coven heads extended family and an important guest of Emperor Belos. A magical prodigy who will someday become apart of the coven with your skills. You've been invited to live in the castle to personally learn from all the coven heads and prove your worth to join the coven. Hunter although uninterested is tasked by the Emperor with watching and protecting you while you stay at the castle. He of course obeys.

He can't do magic like everyone else on the Boiling Isles can but he does have other abilities that the Emperor finds useful. Quick regenitive healing, advanced strength, quick reflexes, above average endurance, super speed, and the ability to teleport. ( He also has a much less used ability where he can go feral becoming a killing machine Belos has yet to use this despite seeing it happen once) Hunter despite not having traditional magic is also a master at using the staff Belos gave him and is constantly working on ways to improve his skills to keep up with everyone else. He's an intelligent and strong well mannered soldier who always follows his uncles orders.

Golden Guard when you arrive at the castle is kind to you but isn't very talkative and can come off as awkward or cocky when he does indulge in the occasional conversation. He's also very timely and tends to rush you to be super early not wanting to get in trouble. It's annoying but you try and roll with it as he's been here longer and Belos asked him to do this. However, he hovers which annoys you as your not a child. He's also very strict about the Emperor's Rules always enforcing them even if they aren't necessary in the given situation. He takes his appointed position as your guard very seriously and you find yourself feeling a bit suffocated by him. The covenheads assure you he's harmless and just gets a little intense during his assignments which you happen to be at the moment. You take this with a grain of salt and mention to him how it's bothering you. He seems surprised and backs off a bit but reminds you it's his job to protect you and he gets the final say. That being said as time goes on he learns how to calm down and becomes more chill as he gets relaxed around you.

During meals he sits with you and the other covenheads to eat. But oddly enough you've never actually seen him eat anything. Simply drink something from a fancy looking goblet. You asked him about it but he pushed it off explaining he preferred to eat alone. You've offered him snacks and food before when he seemed hungry but he always politely rejected. He also never seemed to sleep which was curious because he got up early and stayed up super late but he never seemed tired. You found these things a bit weird but he was weird so you didn't think of them much, simply pushing them off as his habits.

So you stayed in a strange space where you weren't friends but you weren't enimies either. You'd talk but the conversations were often short lived and whenever you tried to get to know him better he seemed closed off. You got used to his eccentricities and decided to take it at his pace. Allies you think.

One day you find him outside while exploring the castle grounds and notice his mask is off. It took you a minute to even realize he was the Golden Guard because of the missing mask. He looks at you with red eyes and stare not knowing his eye color before. You smile and wave, he goes to wave back but pauses before shrinking away. Watching the light slowly get closer to him you remember how he never ate with you instead drinking something out of that goblet of his, and he was adamant on always layering when there was sun, as well as never seeming to sleep. It all begins to click and you look around for something to help. Running into the castle finding a very thick cloak you run back outside. Throwing it over him and making sure he's covered you usher him into the safety of the castle.

Now that you know his little secret you two have gotten much closer. He even tells you his real name! Hunter feels he owes you an explanation after you saved his life and realizes your a true friend and not some brat like he originally thought. Belos warned Hunter never to tell anyone of his demon/vampire origins in fear he would be judged and shamed for not being a witch but you admit you could care less and think it's pretty cool actually. You tap his ears noticing how their pointier than yours and compare your fangs. You ask about magic as you'd heard vampires were really strong in multiple fields but he just shakes his head no. Well he may not have magic like you but he has unique skills that are just as cool. He blushes when you tell him that.

You help him with his condition and do your best to be accommodating now that you know. Since he's your guard and needs to follow you around the castle you make sure not to go into the long hallways with sun shining though the windows. He assures you he's fine as long as he's in uniform but you insist and chose to go through the more shadowy corridors he's used to taking. In return for this kindness and keeping his condition in mind he shows you cool short cuts around the castle and secret places only him and the Emperor know about. You have fun running through hidden corridors and secret passageways as you rush to make it to meetings or magic classes with the head coven members. These places become you and Hunters secret and you often leave messages for each other if your not able to meet for whatever reason. Seeming them in passing when your seperated keeps you both in a good mood. He keeps all your notes in a little box liking to look back at them when your with the coven heads or he has a mission.

You become close rather quickly, being around each other all the time and saving him speeding up the otherwise long and strenuous process of gaining this kids trust. You bond over his interest in wild magic and spend nights reading books about the old ways of magic and demons from before Belos. Creating book forts that you fill with light spells (the only light that doesn't burn him) you both spend the entire night researching and laughing. He's never had a friend or someone who's shared his interests before so he really loves your company if he's awkward and will never admit that.

Through these secret study sessions outside of school/coven work you learn all about what it was like before Beloses rule and interesting facts and lore about Hunters species. Vampires are super rare so books that are factual are hard to find but you both enjoy the challenge and are happy whenever you can get a book fort night in as your schedules are busy. You've tested out some of the things you've found in various books and found Hunter has abilities he didn't even know about.

Some nights when your both in a more mischevious mood after you run out of books to study, and aren't tired wanting to continue your research, you use the secret passageways to sneak into the Emperor library and the castles kitchen. You'll grab snacks and more books often staying up all night to find what you want. Your always left tired in the morning but you've never had more fun.

Hunter has often had to carry you back to your room when you inevitably fall asleep in his. The book forts working best in his room. He tucks your hair behind your ear and smiles watching you sleep, your heart beating peacefully as you lightly breathe. As a vampire he only needs a few hours rather than a third of a day to sleep and he doesn't get dreams unlike witches. He often wonders what you dream of. He thinks maybe he would dream of you but he pushes these thoughts away. Putting a blanket over you before leaving you to rest, neither of you ever mention it in the morning. He doubts you remember anyways.

When your too tired to read or are all researched out for the week he'll sit and play music instead. Something to just relax after a stressful week. You'll hang out in his room or yours talking and taking a break from your stressful life's. Hunter loves his guitar and although it has a few scratches and knicks it's one of his most valuable possessions. He knows how to play most songs being musically gifted and loves when you sing for him. You've had your fair share of karaoke nights that end with the both of you in a fit of giggles as Hunter always whistles when he sings. You enjoy these rare moments with him and you always have a great time just being regular kids for a couple hours.

Whenever your sad now he'll pull you into a hug and hum your favorite song to cheer you up.

Months later and your magic is progressing far past where either of you thought it would. Hunter is proud of you and you can't believe that being a covenhead may be in your future someday. Belos decides to throw a party for the coven heads and all the high political families in his social circle, the focus being you and your achievements. Hunter wonders if he should ask you to be his partner to the dance but figures he'll see you there regardless since it's for you. As everyone is dancing and having fun Hunter enjoying the night off he tries to gain the courage to ask you to dance. Before he can rebels invade the castle. Hunter tries to grab you and take you to safety but you stand to fight with the covenheads and other party guests becoming a target.

Hunter gets really hurt protecting you as he uses his body as a shield when someone aims for your back. Your able to drag him away so no one sees him use his vampiric powers but panic as he doesn't heal. He has regenerative abilities but you realizes he needs blood. NOW. You offer yours but he shakes his head no as he gasps in pain trying to close his wounds on his own. He's only ever drank from a real person a few times before but it always goes wrong and he doesn't want to hurt you. You offer again seeing how much pain he's in and he once again refuses even as he feels himself growing rabid. Not wanting to loose your friend you bite into your arm making it bleed before carefully giving him some.

Your relationship shifts after that. After he has your blood and spends the next few days recovering and healing, Hunter realizes these feelings he has for you, the need to protect you, may be much more than platonic. He's never had romantic feelings before and he's unsure how to handle them.

Hunter thinks about avoiding you but he makes a quick recovery and is soon back to his job as your guard. He was even stopped and congratulated by Belos for doing such a good job protecting you so Hunter knew he couldn't give up the position or quit. So he needs to face his feelings.

Suddenly everything that once felt normal was different. Every time you laughed with him or smiled at him his undead heart fluttered. Every time your heart rate quickened he had to hold himself back from biting and marking you as his. Every time you snuggled close in one of your pillow forts he had the urge to gently kiss you. His feelings became confusing and his wants unknown. He knows he likes you but does he want to change the current relationship you have? What if you didn't like him back? Was courting you even appropriate with his job as your protector?

One day he just blurts it out without meaning too. You pause and he's ramrod stiff as he stares at you with wide eyes. He's blushing but so are you so that's a good sign right??? You run at him and holding up his arms expecting you to attack you wrap him in a hug. He surprised but doesn't mind as your lips crash into his. Your fangs brush against each other as your lips touch and Hunters in pure bliss for a minute.

You have to keep dating on the down low but it's hard not to tell everyone how much you love your new boyfriend. You hold hands when no one's around, sneak kisses in the passageways, and when you fall asleep in his room Hunter no longer moves you instead snuggling close and resting in his own way. He's a bit awkward with affection but he follows your lead and finds he likes the gentle touches and kind words. He's weak for your touch and is absolutely enthralled by you.

He often gets you gifts and trinkets wanting you to know how much he values you. He gets you flowers from the castle gardens, expensive clothes from the market, antique books, and other things that remind him of you while on missions. He'd give you the entire world if he could and spends any snails he can save on you because he needs you to know how much he loves you. You tell him you love him for him and not the gifts but he continues to spoil you regardless. Whenever he gets a gift from you, no matter how small he's in love and treasures it. He has a space in his room dedicated to the things you give him. They're next to the messages he saved.

He's surprisingly touchy behind closed doors. He seemed averse to touch but no in private he loves touching you. He loves holding you in his arms and adores when you wear his cape (it reminds him of couples wearing each other's jackets). Kisses always make his ears stand up and cheeks go red despite not having blood to redden them. He likes tracing your hands in those quiet moment your alone together or just holding them. He often reaches for your free hand snatching it when it's not being used. You've learned to do a lot of things one handed because of how often your hand is in his. You don't mind at all enjoying the contact even if Hunters funny sometimes. Your favorite thing to do is kiss his scars or trace his face/mess with his hair telling him how much you care about him as you give him these soft touches. You never stop amazing him and he never stops dazzling you.

Dates are complicated. You can't exactly go out during normal hours as he's a vampire and sneaking out of the castle at night is in itself an impossible task. You also have to keep your relationship a secret so you can't do anything romantic in the castle incase someone catches you. So you continue your little room dates sneaking into each other's rooms by using the secret passageways. Research and snacks or music and dancing in either of your rooms being the best you can do.

Hunters hesitant to feed from you as he has a large storage of blood and has long gotten used to cold blood rather than warm blood but the act is so intimate. You insist when he hasn't had time to drink and it's hard to resist when he's hungry. He's always so gentle and doting as he does it, never taking more than he needs. Hunter likes to playfully brush his fangs against you skin watching you shiver. He sucks and marks flesh in places no one will see before he eventually bites down after asking you one final time if it's okay.

He has no idea how you could love a monster like him and often has doubts but you always silence his worries. Gentle kisses and hugs making the bad voices fade away. He has no idea how he got so lucky but as he brushes hair out of your face and snuggles closer your arms wrapped around him as his cape drapes over the two of you he decides not to question a good thing.
