What We Know About Series 14
Doctor Who series 14 is coming up next year. This is a roundup of advance information and leaks about the season and the preceding Christmas special. Sources are at the very bottom below the cut.
CAST
Tumblr media
Ncuti Gatwa as the Fifteenth Doctor. Unlike his predecessors, this Doctor changes his outfit a lot.
Tumblr media
Millie Gibson as Ruby Sunday. Like her actress, Ruby is a native of Manchester.
Returning characters:
Tumblr media
Jemma Redgrave as Kate Stewart, head of UNIT.
Tumblr media
Bonnie Langford as former companion Mel Bush.
Villains:
Tumblr media
Jinkx Monsoon as a villain favouring piano-themed attire, described as "the Doctor's most powerful enemy yet". Not everyone survives the encounter...
Tumblr media
Indira Varma as the Duchess. RTD: "a whole new audience will be hiding behind the settee when the Duchess unleashes her terror." Varma previously played Suzie Costello on 2 episodes of Torchwood.
Other characters:
Tumblr media
Aneurin Barnard as Roger ap Gwilliam.
Jonathan Groff as a "mysterious key" character.
Tumblr media
Lenny Rush as Morris, in time for the Doctor's "greatest nightmare". RTD: "But what secrets does he hold? What's secreted in the Segway?! And will his terrifying probabilities be proved true..?"
Jack Forsyth-Noble as Will.
Gemma Arrowsmith and Mary Malone will appear in the Christmas special, while Majid Mehdizadeh-Valoujerdy and Billy Brayshaw will appear in separate episodes.
Tumblr media
Also announced to be appearing: Sophie Ablett, Anita Dobson, Michelle Greenidge, Bhav Joshi, Millie Kent, Eilidh Loan, Pete MacHale, Miles Yekinni, Hemi Yeroham. Dobson previously appeared in the audio play "Blood of the Daleks".
EPISODES
There will be a Christmas special in December 2023, followed by an eight-episode season. (The BBC posted that the season would air in spring, but then removed the information.) Russell T Davies is the showrunner.
A guest star from 2005 returned for the special.
Episode 1's title was coincidentally spoken aloud in a third-season episode of Star Trek: Picard. It includes the words roar, Glastonbury, and conquistador.
Episode 2 contains the words Liverpool, legions, and non-diegetic. Scene 10 begins "INT. CANTEEN. DAY."
RTD thinks episode 4 is one of the best things he's ever written. The line "I once went to the top of the Shard" was cut from it.
The script for episode 7 begins with the line "INT. COFFEE BAR, USA — DAY, 1947".
Episode 8 will contain the words kingdom, gold, and Tigella. Scene 73, featuring the Doctor and Ruby in the TARDIS while "enemies are being fought", was the last scene filmed for the season.
Tumblr media
There's a 1960s episode, featuring the Doctor and Ruby in snazzy period outfits.
Tumblr media
The episode guest-starring both Varma and Groff will be set in the Regency era. "Dress to impress, and beware the Duchess."
CREATOR RAMBLINGS
According to RTD, we will be "staggered" by the 2023 festive season surprises.
There are monsters which are "impossible to describe" without referencing Fourth and Seventh Doctor adventures.
RTD promises that there are "plans still unfurling" which have yet to be made public.
Production designer Philip Sims said he was excited about "designing a new Dalek".
Davies has hinted that the blue doors Michelle Greenidge and Anita Dobson were photographed with are significant.
Script editor Scott Handcock mentioned filming which required nine babies, as well as Ncuti and Millie.
Monsoon's first day on set "teams her with an unexpected name from the Tom Baker era".
Anita Dobson has said she's playing Ruby's neighbour, whose name is either Mrs. Flood or Blood.
RTD used a potato emoji while commenting on publicity photos from the Regency episode (Sontarans?). Davies was also very coy about the identity of Groff's character.
RTD mentioned one episode having gone through three titles with no decision having yet been made. Another episode had "sixpence" in the title for a while, until the coin was cut.
RTD teased a famous guest star appearing in a scene with a giant statue head in the finale.
While writing about the final days of filming, RTD said that "Yasmin Finney wrapped a few days ago".
OTHER
Filming began on December 7, 2022 and wrapped on July 14, 2023.
Block One was directed by Dylan Holmes Williams. Block Two was directed by Mark Tonderai. It included the Christmas special. Block Three was directed by Julie Anne Robinson. It contains "two wildly different episodes, by two different writers". Block Four was directed by Ben Chessell. Block Five was directed by Jamie Donoghue.
Posters of the Doctor and Ruby.
Fifteen will be getting a brand-new sonic screwdriver.

Leaks and sources below the cut!
LEAKS
Michelle Greenidge appears to be playing Ruby Sunday's mother. Since Greenidge and Millie Gibson are different ethnicities, she is presumably an adoptive, foster, or step mother.
Campaign posters for the "Albion Party", with Roger ap Gwilliam as the "Space Saviour", were spotted on location filming.
Jinkx Monsoon is in the '60s episode.
Millie Kent is playing Valerie, and Sophie Ablett is Marti Bridges.
Mel Bush will be appearing in the season finale.
Reports from finale location filming, albeit second-hand, of someone on set saying, "This is where the Daleks come in".
According to his CV, Majid Mehdizadeh-Valoujerdy will be playing Carson in an episode directed by Julie Anne Robinson.
Davina McCall may be the returning 2005 guest star. She will apparently host a genealogy show on which Ruby appears, and will be crushed by a falling Christmas tree.
RUMOURS
UNIT may be getting its own spinoff. (SOURCE)
The DWM production journal has led some fans to theorize Steven Moffat will be returning as a writer.

A man killed himself one day after being charged with an offence relating to a previous suicide attempt, an inquest has heard.
Cameron Edwards, 24, from Buckley, Flintshire, died in April last year when he crashed his motorbike into a wall in Mold.
Earlier that day, he had appeared in magistrates’ court charged with obstructing a public highway after being found sitting on a bridge over the A483 in Wrexham.
An inquest in Ruthin on Thursday concluded his death was a suicide.
Coroner Kate Robertson read a statement from Mr Edwards’ father, Robin, who said his son suffered with mental health issues and had been diagnosed with emotionally unstable personality disorder.
He had "multiple admissions" to the Heddfan psychiatric unit at Wrexham Maelor Hospital and two to the Ablett Unit at Glan Clwyd Hospital.
The inquest heard how, in 2021, one of Mr Edwards' dogs bit a child and he was facing prosecution for this.
A report from Betsi Cadawaladr health board added he had "struggled to cope with the prospect of losing his dogs" and "felt he would be sent to prison and his dogs would be destroyed".
Before a court hearing in March 2022, he took an overdose and could not attend.
The health board said he had been admitted to hospital five times in the five months before his death but, despite collaborative working across departments, there was "no therapeutic role for hospital admission" and he was discharged.
Then, on 6 April 2023, Mr Edwards was remanded into custody for his own safety after being found sitting on a bridge over the Berse slip road in Wrexham.
Sgt Corey McLeod said Mr Edwards was charged with obstructing a public highway and there was fear "he may harm himself" if released.
On 7 April, he was fined £110 in court and, later that day, rode a motorbike into the wall of Rhual Farm.
He died from severe head injuries.
The inquest heard there was no alcohol in his blood and only the prescribed level of anti-depressant medication.
==
He was literally sitting on a bridge about to kill himself and feared "he may harm himself." And what did they do? Fined him.

The new Horse Ranch sims DLC is making me fondly reminisce Red Dead Online, to the point I kinda want to re-install the game. I had so much fun playing it, but the game is abandoned and there wasn't anything left for us to do except being harassed by griefers.
Nevertheless, look at our beautiful posse matching their horses. Afsha the naturalist/moonshiner with Ablette, Grigou the trader poacher with Ravenous, and my Jhosie the collector with Pinkie Pie. Those were not our only roles, just the ones that had an impact on character development. I.E. we were also all bounty hunters as a fun group activity.
(And of course Esca's An-Yi, who was zoning out every time we played together and whose only thought was "stab". They never figured out how to buy a horse despite us trying to help, decided they would ride with me on Pinkie instead)

Season previews: Gold Coast Suns (11th)
Last season: 15th (9 wins, 14 losses, 91.7%) Notable ins: Jed Walter (no. 3 draft pick) Notable outs: Mabior Chol (Hawthorn), Elijah Hollands (Carlton)
Is it too harsh to say that Gold Coast’s greatest contribution in their history is the extra game they tack on to the AFL’s multi-billion dollar broadcast deal? The other 17 teams might disagree only on the basis that the Suns occasionally act as a stud farm for grabbing established players to top up their own lists. The Suns year-after-year rank last in memberships, game attendances, TV ratings and the less scientific measure of ‘care factor.’  This is the landscape that confronts Damien Hardwick, their new coach who is not at all accustomed to operating off-Broadway. Does he see a realistic path to turning it around or, after achieving all there is to achieve at Richmond, is this a six-year mission in boosting his own superannuation balance?
Tumblr media
‘Dimma’ famously said at his grand unveiling that 80% of their premiership list was already in place. Let’s go with him for a second and engage in the thought experiment: if you were to describe a Grand Final winning side, what would it look like? An above-average ruckman (Jarrod Witts), hard-nosed midfielders (Matt Rowell, Touk Miller), damaging ball-users (Noah Anderson, Ben Ainsworth, Lachie Weller), rock-solid defenders (Sam Collins, Charlie Ballard), a dominant key forward or two (Ben King and perhaps Walter) and some genuine X-factor (Jack Lukosuis, Bailey Humphrey). The math might not quite work out but we can at least follow the logic of Hardwick’s big call.
The new coach’s biggest challenge will be overcoming a culture of irrelevance. The Suns have never placed higher than 12th on the ladder and their best season is still a “what if?” scenario where Gary Ablett Jr busted his shoulder (that was ten years and four coaches ago). Attempts at responsible list management have been undone by stars wanting out, unproven youngsters being paid insane sums to stay and recruits signed to deals well above market rates to deign to play for the league’s consistently worst side. This post would well exceed its word limit if it went through every instance of these but take one: Rory Atkins was bizarrely offered a five-year contract to leave Adelaide in 2020 and has since played most of his football in the seconds.
All that aside, Hardwick should be backed in to improve the Gold Coast Suns. He is an excellent coach who came into a Richmond side that was all those years ago on its knees and we know what happened next. There is plenty of talent on a list that is crying out to be matched with a winning game plan and mentality. Expect an adjustment period but the Suns sleep-walked their way to nine wins last year and can be relied upon to do at least marginally better this season. Don’t bet your hard-earned money on it just yet but look forward to more than that in 2025 and beyond.
A star's legacy is at stake as a coach outstays his welcome, next up is the Western Bulldogs...
