Here is your yearly reminder that none of the brats on my page are in any way straight (and neither is the mun lbr)
Max: Gay as shit (homosexual/romantic) and firmly monogamous
Eli: Pansexual/romantic and prefers monogamy but can be brought around to the idea of polygamy with lots of discussion and clear boundaries put in place
Nate: Pansexual and demiromantic and open to both monogamy and polygamy.

Anne Archibald Vanderbilt Socialite
#quickfacts
Before Howard's infamous arrest, Anne was the perfect socialite. She thrived on the Upper East Side. Anne ran committees, hosted events, ran the most exciting (and wine-soaked) book club, never cooked and mostly learned French.
The years chipped away at Anne, she thinks. Piece by piece, little by little. She molded herself into this perfect doll that when Howard started showing signs of... Well, all of it-- she ignored it. Anne knows it now, that she stuck her head in the sand. She just wanted it to be okay, even if it meant playing the fool. Even if it meant hurting Nate.
When Howard was perp walked by the FBI out of Ella Fairchild's ball, the world came crashing down around Anne but she didn't feel it. She didn't feel anything. She'd been numb for longer than that night and it didn't get better.
She left Nate behind when he needed her most-- something she is trying to make up for every day now. She ran from the Upper East Side, back to the judgemental and loving arms of her father. Anne hasn't been back since (almost 2 years).
Anne has done a lot of work since Howard left. She's trying to get back to feeling like herself, whoever she used to be. She changed her name back to Vanderbilt, she kept herself busy. She's trying to move forward now.
Connections:
Adrian and Jo Tsang-Vanderbilt (Nick/Chris/Peter's parents)- Adrian's her brother and Jo's her sister-in-law.
William and Julie Vanderbilt (Tripp and Juliette's parents) - Anne's brother and sister-in-law.
Eleanor Waldorf (Blair's mom) and Lilly van der Woodsen (Serena's mom) - their kids have been best friends (to say the least) from the crib.
Children: Nate Archibald Ex-Husband: Howard Archibald Nieces and Nephews: Nick, Chris and Peter Vanderbilt. Juliette and Tripp Vanderbilt.

Nate, what was your first initial thought when meeting Caillen for the first time ?
"I bet she would fight a sunbeam for getting in her eyes."

Nate often visits Haurchefant and tells him about his adventures. Some times he's more animated than others, and admits it probably looks a little strange to anyone who might witness it from afar. Regardless, he intends to continue the practice anyway, because he knows the other man would likely get a great deal of joy from hearing about them.

My feelings about queernormative worlds in SFF is that I can often enjoy it, but I rarely believe it.
Almost everything surrounding gender, sex, and sexuality, and all the different social norms and expectations that different cultures build up around them, derive ultimately from the various realities of sexual activity and pregnancy: who can have it, who can’t, for how long, who does have it, who doesn’t, and what that means for society. I’m not being bioessentialist here, because human bodies are all quite different and different cultures develop different ways to react to that, and rates of and reactions to fertility can be different, and what different sexual and gender roles mean in different cultures and who can and can’t embody them can get extremely different. (Hell, how pregnancy itself even works can be different depending on where you live, what your lifestyle is like, and what your diet consists of!) But like, the reason gender even matters, historically, has been because of reproduction. And the reason reproduction matters, in agricultural societies anyway, has very often been because of property ownership and the need to work on farms.
So I’m totally here for queernormative worlds. But to interest me you have to answer the questions of: okay, but how does your culture work though, and how is kinship structured, and how is reproduction seen, and how is property inheritance understood, and how does gender fit into all this, for me to feel like you’ve actually tried. (And don’t say that there ARE no norms, so no one falls outside of them. There’s no culture where that’s true.)
Sci-fi worlds can get away with this easier than fantasy worlds, imo. Partially because they can posit that it is our future but we’ve gone through all of the Social Justice Struggles already and solved them, but also because technology can really alter all of these topics. The Vorkosigan Saga, for instance, makes it clear that Beta Colony is as gender-egalitarian and free-love as it is because of contraception and uterine replicators, which FULLY decouple “the ability to have children” from “the need for anyone to be pregnant.” This is huge, and the Vorkosigan Saga treats it as appropriately so! Ancillary Justice is another one that thinks a lot about how the genderless culture that decenters romance as a core social organizing principle works. But I read so many low-ish-tech fantasy worlds that are happily queernormative and gender doesn’t matter and they just feel shallow. I don’t believe this world. I don’t dislike it, exactly, I just don’t believe it, I don’t believe people would be like this because you’ve put no effort into imagining a world that works like this makes any sense.
Which is totally fine for people’s D&D games and cute oneshot comics and personal works and such, but when you want me to take your worldbuilding seriously, you’re going to have to convince me! And a lot of it is not convincing.
#adding my two cents. Sorry for contributing to The Discourse but I don’t completely agree with any Takes I’ve seen so far#It’s a failure of imagination is what it is!#Also Nate astriifomes is right that it’s so often suuuuuper allonornative and amatonormarive#In a way that is not satisfyingly addressed at all#Yes I am very anthropologist brained about this

Crossover Headcanons: any Nate crossover
Let's go with the og babies Nate and Aurora!
1 - You cannot tell me they didn't do one huge road trip in Italy, where they basically visited all the most famous cities. They took the Warblers & Nate's squad and they travelled all together up and down the country.
2 - After the Outing Mess, Aurora tried to convince him to transfer to Dalton. He had an absolute shitty month, he almost wanted to drop out school but his family and friends convinced him not to. At the end he decides to go back to McKinley mainly bc his sisters are there, and Blaine and Aurora follows him bc they're worried about him (He feels so bad especially for Aurora, he loves having her around more but also knows Dalton is her home) (but an AU where Nate actually transfers to Dalton bc of Aurora might be just 👀)
3 - Nate dedicates at least one of his books to Aurora for sure. Like, she's in every single acknowledgements but she also deserves to be at least once in the very first page. You also cannot tell me he doesn't write a novel with private/boarding school vibes inspired by Dalton. That is Aurora's home, ofc he would write about it. Again, really need to talk about Nate's writing ugh
4 - Nate loves listening Aurora talking about Broadway history! Most of the things he knows about it it's bc Aurora told him ngl.
5 - Not that much an headcanon but! Nate singing Sweeter Than Fiction by Taylor Swift to Aurora. Just this, that's all. I need it.
6 - Bonus: You know that scene in Gilmore Girls where Luke destroys Christopher telling him how he's not Rory's father bc it was Luke that was there for her when she needed a father figure? That scene, but it's Adam (Nate's father btw) talking about Aurora. He knows that was Cooper that raised her, but she is Nate's sister now, that means also his daughter (him and Caroline adopted also Blaine ofc. And Cooper, even if he's older enough to be on his own. And they're totally ready to adopt any of Aurora's friends/family that need better parental figures lol)

Nate Archibald's Holidays ❆
So... that was A LOT, right? At least Nate learned from previous Howard-ruins-a-Fairball mistakes and didn't get totally plastered to cope. But that's not to say he's been having a groovy or cool time. Yet again, the Archibalds are at the top of the sus list. Yet again, the Archibald name is dragged through the mud.
Nate took what solace he could in getting away for the holidays. Especially with Serena. Running away from you problems TOGETHER - that is character development. Nate got to pretend that everything was okay for a little while, got to pretend he was anybody else.
Kissing Serena at midnight was perfect. A life without Gossip Girl, a life without Howard Archibald. A life without being manipulated into doing shitty things - Nate could have lived it forever. Coming back to the UES is hellish but they have to do it.
He fears his old friend consequences might be right around the corner now.

i love that none of the leverage team have misplaced confidence like they all really are THAT good. hardison hacked into the bank of iceland as a teenager. parker can crack almost any type of safe in seconds. sophie is a famous art thief and has played such long cons that she became a duchess. eliot is an internationally renowned hitman and retrieval specialist FOR A REASON. nate literally gave a guy a nosebleed with the power of his mind. no wonder the five of them are the only people who could possibly figure out how to beat a steranko twice
#leverage#alec hardison#parker leverage#sophie devereaux#eliot spencer#nate ford#and it makes it so you can clearly see when they're out of their element!#s1 parker STRUGGLED at grifting. eliot can barely work a computer half the time. hardison needs to be taught about wine multiple times#sophie and nate have been at it the longest so you don't see them struggle as much but. i'm certain they do
