A pillar of modern Indian architecture
Much has been written about B.V. Doshi during the last week after his demise – the most celebrated architect from India, recipient of all major national civilian honors, beside all national and international awards for architecture. Of course, awards can follow each other and fame can be an ever-burning fire if fuelled regularly, beyond which lies the greatness of a person. So, this essay does…

Tea time✨ because at this point this all just free drama for me.
So girls and boys are separate at my school. And the only time we interact is during parade(morning exercise), durinh lunch and during roaming time(since we go to school at 7 am and come back at 2 p.m. the last hour is given to us as free time)
And there was this guy named Pene(spelled like Pen). He was the top student of his class but at the same time he was the school thug. Almost no one could stand him in the school. So fast forward that guy confessed to me and I rejected him. Because I rejected him he pushed me down the stair that caused a bruise on me. I punched him and caused a few cracks on his jawbone. I was suspended for 4 days. And that guy was suspened for a month.(he would've been expelled if not for his grades)
So another new guy named Achyut came(we call him Achy. A-chi) now that guy is the top student. So Pen and Achy has this rivalry going on. And these bitches had to drag me in it. Mind me but Achy is actually quite a nice guy. He became a part of my friend circle.
So Achy confessed to me in roaming hour infront of a LOT of students. Which is one of the worst ways to confess in my opinion. Everyone was cheering on me to accept him but I rejected him.
This fcker had the audacity to put a hand over my mouth and tell the crowd that I said yes(it was hella loud)
Wtf is this?? I punched the guy immediately and told ppl that they got it wrong.
Achy was nice but that was a real nasty jerk move.
And there is more to it. The next day. Achy told everyone in the school that we were dating. He apparently told ppl that I said no at that time bc I was embarrassed.
And this ain't even the end.
🙂🔪

As India’s most significant structural engineer Mahendra Raj (1924-2022) has collaborated with almost all of his country’s important architects as well as those who came from outside: Le Corbusier & Pierre Jeannerret, Louis Kahn, Achyut Kanvinde, Charles Correa and Balkrishna Doshi are just the most famous names from Raj’s list of collaborators. But it was more than just structural engineering that he provided since he also played a vital role in shaping the architectural identity of a nation searching for its own, postcolonial voice. With „The Structure: Works of Mahendra Raj“, edited by Vandini Mehta, Rohit Raj Mehndiratta & Ariel Huber and published in 2016 by Park Books for the first time a larger audience is provided with a comprehensive overview of Raj’s outstanding career. Over more than 60 years of engineering practice he worked on some 250 projects, a more than sufficient basis for a lengthy monograph. Of these 250 projects the editors chose 28 to illustrate and highlight the structural achievements of the engineer: supplemented with extensive archival material, i.e. drawings and photographs, as well as contemporary photographs one receives a good impression of the innovative and highly creative capabilities of Mahendra Raj. Irrespective of whether it’s India’s first high-rise, sports stadiums or temporary exhibition pavilions, Raj approached each project with a fresh mindset and an intuitive radicalism that made possible unprecedented formal solutions. That these forms didn’t come about single-handedly but in close collaboration with architects is one of the aspects addressed by the manifold essays included in the book. This aspect is further elaborated in a dialogue between Raj and Balkrishna Doshi, two masters of Indian architecture and long-term collaborators. What’s particularly valuable about the monograph is a comprehensive work catalogue in the back of the book that instigates further research into the work of this fascinating artist/engineer.
In view of the few English-language books on protagonists of Indian modern architecture „The Structure“ is an incredibly valuable, eye-opening read that provides a fascinating panorama of Indian architecture of the last 60 years. Highly recommended!

Asha Bhosle Unveils 'VOICE OF THE NATION,' a Book About Lata Mangeshkar's Life
Tumblr media
In a grand event at her Mumbai residence, the renowned singer Asha Bhosle launched the book "Voice of the Nation," which narrates the life of Lata Mangeshkar. The book is an English translation of the Assamese book "Asomi Ailoi Pranam," authored by Devajit Bhuyan. Having been an instant hit with several editions, senior journalist Achyut Kumar Patowary translated the book into English, and its publication was made possible with the assistance of Dhiraj Goswami from Assam Book Hive, a leading publishing house in Guwahati. Assam Book Hive had also published the original Assamese version.
Asha Bhosle, accompanied by Lata Mangeshkar's sister Usha Mangeshkar, spoke highly of the book, commending its special effort in portraying the story of the "tune empress." Asha Bhosle fondly recalled the strong connection between Dr. Bhupen Hazarika and Lata Mangeshkar, expressing her desire to visit Assam and applauding the book for maintaining the connection between Mangeshkar's family and Assam.
Discussing Lata Mangeshkar's impact on Indian music, Asha Bhosle called her "incomparable." She expressed concern about current music trends and appreciated the book for preserving Lata Didi's timeless songs.
Despite being 90 years old, Asha Bhosle remains active in her work, crediting the lessons she learned from Lata Didi. She aims to stay relevant and move with the times, valuing the wisdom from her older sister. Usha Mangeshkar, present at Lata Mangeshkar's home in Prabhukunj, described the book as a witness to history, filled with many untold stories and pictures from Lata Didi's life. She found it fascinating and wished her sister could see the book. Usha Mangeshkar recognized Lata Mangeshkar's unique contribution to the Indian music industry, highlighting the lasting impact her sister has had.
Bollywood celebrities Suresh Wadekar and Rupkumar Rathore also praised "VOICE OF THE NATION," emphasizing the importance of such books in introducing Lata Mangeshkar's life and talents to younger generations. They expressed gratitude to the author, Devajit Bhuyan, for his exceptional work.
The English version of "VOICE OF THE NATION" is published by Assam Book Hive and will be available at the upcoming Guwahati Book Fair. This marks a significant moment in sharing Lata Mangeshkar's legacy with a wider audience.
