Lack of Success in the AWS Data Engineer Job Market
Wow! Talk about disappointment, the job market is definitely tough right now for AWS Data Engineers. Or, Data Engineers overall. The oddest part though, ~85% of the emails/calls I receive, they are for Senior or Lead Data Engineer and/or Data Scientist roles. When I am trying to break in at the mid-level Data Engineer role because I know I do not yet have the Senior level experience yet. But…

I just started on my AWS Certifications, and yes I have a large lofty goal of completing all 8 of them. I just completed and passed my first exam today, so I am excited! Thank you @acloudguru @ryankroonenburg for such awesome content and resources to help everyone learn and pass these exams. I spent a lot of time putting in the work to pass this first exam, I spent 5 days straight, 14 hours per day, going through as much @acloudguru content as I could, along with the resources/whitepapers from AWS. I am also working to complete my Full-Stack Web Dev certification in March of 2018. I have always worked or consulted companies in various technologies, but never took the time to just go take the AWS exams. I love Technology, I am obsessed with the Cloud and how companies are adopting this shift, all I want to do is help organizations make that transition so they can get to market faster, so they can keep innovating, so they can do more automation and create more time in the company to do more innovation. I could go on and on, thank you @acloudguru team, I should have been at re:Invent but I decided I needed to get my AWS Certs done instead. #acloudguru #aws #certification #hustle #dothework #start #putinthework #focus #intensity #technology #devops #training #everyday

ServerlessConf Austin 2017
Over the past month and a half I have attended two IT conferences here in my hometown of Austin: ServerlessConf and OSCON. I had an idea that these might be transformative, but I had no idea to what extent that would become true! I’ll talk about OSCON in a later post, but now I’ll give you my take on the ServerlessConf.
ServerlessConf - Workshop
Tumblr media
This was a 3-day conference, but going into it I was excited just about the first day. That day would be an all-day workshop called “Build Your Own Serverless Video Sharing Website - with Lambda, API Gateway and Firebase”. Here is the description of the workshop:
“Learn how to build your very own video sharing website, like YouTube, using serverless technologies. During the workshop you will build an entire end to end system (along with an HTML5 website) that's powered by AWS Lambda and API Gateway, S3, Elastic Transcoder, Firebase, Auth0 and much more. As you are guided through the workshops you will also learn about useful patterns and architectures such as "compute as backend" and "compute as glue". This workshop is suitable for beginners and experts alike (and if you are an expert we'll be sure to challenge you just a little bit more)”.
What was so exciting for me was this was the beginning of what I want to do with MY site, MY business! Not only was I going to learn serverless technologies, I was going to get an example of what I was planning to build!
The workshop lived up to my expectations and more. The instructors Sam Kroonenburg and Daniel Parker, both of A Cloud Guru, prepared an excellent course. They even provided each of us the course in book form, with easy to follow step-by-step instructions. You can still find the course here on github.
Given we only had one day to get through it all, the code we needed was already written for us. We modified a few things here and there, but mostly our work happened in AWS. Unlike other workshops that give you too much to accomplish in the time provided, I was able to get all of this done and then spend time going over it and letting it all soak in. This was a firehose of knowledge I could handle.
Tumblr media
Peter Sbarski, also of A Cloud Guru, and who was there assisting this workshop as well as others, has written a book using this workshop as a starting point and then adding a LOT to it. It is called Serverless Architectures on AWS. I am currently working through it as often as I can. It is well written and thorough. It is what I need to get my business off the ground and I am so grateful to have it! If you have Safari it is also now available there.
ServerlessConf - Speakers
The next two days of the conference I initially thought would be a let down, as I was so geared toward that workshop, but I was pleasantly surprised by the depth of knowledge I gained from the speakers.
All of the speakers were recorded and you can find them here on YouTube. If you are interested in these technologies then these are definitely worth watching. There was not only AWS, but Google Cloud, Microsoft Azure and IBM’s OpenWhisk as well.
Tumblr media
One talk that really stands out to me and that I’ll be referring to frequently as I develop my application is the one on Serverless Security by Guy Podjarny (here is his blog). This is such an important topic and he covered it all so well. I wish he would write a book on this subject!
Thanks to all for such a great conference, especially to those from A Cloud Guru who started this. You gave me so much and really jump started my business development. I’ll forever be in your debt!

Technology is a wonderful thing. However, if you don’t quite get it (like many of us don’t), it can be more frustrating than anything you’ve ever attempted to accomplish! Thankfully, there are thousands of ways to learn more about it, and many colleges teach this as a core class nowadays. But what if you want to learn something specific that your school doesn’t offer? Linux Academy does just that, with their Cloud technology-focused classes and tutorials. They provide in-depth training on the specifics of all Cloud-based software and programs, giving you everything you need in one convenient place. No more piecing information together from free internet tutorials, giving yourself a headache from information overload. This place will teach you all about the software and programs you’re interested in! How To Get The Linux Academy College Student Discount There’s a free trial option of Linux Academy available through aCloudGuru — the company that runs the course. However, they also offer 47% off for students if you verify your student info with them here. That’s quite a discount, and for something as valuable as this, you’d better jump on it fast!

How I Passed the AWS Certified Solutions Architect (SAA-C02+1) With Zero Experience Within Two Months
Before starting specifically for this quiz, I had zero experience with SAA-C02+1. But after two months, I’m echt! Do I say that this is an easy quiz? NO! Absolutely wrong. The confines of this test are extremely large and nearly top of the SAA-C02+1 services are involved. In this paper, I'll participate how I studied and passed the AWS Certified Results Architect (SAA-C02+1).
Courses
I attended various courses, both in-person and online.
Instructor-Led
My company organized an educationist- led a course in the office and I’ve attended it for free (Nice benefit!). It's additionally apprehensible when you're harkening to the educationist instruction with your mother language (My mother language isn't English).
Tumblr media
The other advantage of attending a preceptor-led course is that you can ask questions incontinently during the class whenever you have mistrust about the material presented. It helps you to learn more in-depth and customize. Also, it's a good learned process when your classmates ask as well.
Sometimes you just suppose we know the stuff but when your classmates ask the questions you nowise suppose of, you'll find that you actually don’t understand the paraphernalia at all! This happed multiple times during my course and we learned a lot throughout thisQ&A process.
In the course, we need to do six hands-on labs in 591Lab. It's really good practice to do hands-on exercises right after you learn the allied notions. It helps you consolidate what you have just learned by making your hands dirty. But if you don’t have a 591Lab account, you can always use AWS SAA-C02+1 free- ranks to do your tests. There are multitudinous hands-on exercise escorts on the Internet to guide you using services in SAA-C02+1. I followed multitudinous hands-on practices in the ACloudGuru course.
The disadvantage is if you need to pay for this course, it's ultra-expensive. Another disadvantage is that you can not replication the reading, unlike online courses. When I was preparing for the test, I constantly went back and review the content that I forgot. It's possible if you're taking online courses but not in a classroom reading. You need to drop your own notes during the class.
ACloudGuru
I took this course on Udemy for around$ 13 when there was a reduction. You may check the connived link below if you want. You can also subscribe ACloudGuru learning portal.
This course starts with a broad overview of the AWS SAA-C02+1 platform and either deep dive into the individual essentials of the AWS SAA-C02+1 platform. You'll explore Route53, EC2, S3, CloudFront, Auto Scaling, Freight Balancing, RDS, RedShift, DynamoDB, EMR, VPC, etc.
ACloudGuru was the perfect place to start. They give lectures and hands-on labs that are instructive and will keep you engaged. They streamlined this course with new content from around June to July 2020. Since the AWS SAA-C02+1 topography is continuously changing, it can be taxing to find current wherewithal.
There are sections centering on the new content in SAA-C02+1, they marked the section with a classification (SAA-C02+1). Pay special attention to these sections as they will betide in the SAA-C02+1 examination.
There are section summaries that help you center on the most critical corridor of each lecture. I recommend you review these summaries before the examination day.

[ACloudGuru] AWS Cost Control
Tumblr media
Description
Become a Cost Control Guru – and Spend Less on AWS! AWS costs can quickly spiral out of control with the pay-as-you-go pricing model. Moving to the cloud with old habits and techniques can cost individuals and organizations a small fortune. While Amazon Web Services does a good job of providing cost-control tools and services, you need to learn how to use them properly to effectively manage and monitor your AWS spending. We designed our AWS Cost Control course so that you can effectively control your AWS costs by following a few best practices. This course covers cost control throughout the lifecycle of AWS design, from requirements, to design, to maintenance and final decommissioning and at each stage asks how can this be done more cost effectively?” We will also deep dive into AWS cost control best practices, and techniques for designing cost effective solutions to reduce the cost of your existing projects. We’ll use services such as Amazon CloudWatch to collect and track metrics, monitor log files, set alarms, and automatically react to changes in your AWS resources. Together we’ll also explore how to reduce your existing AWS bill, purchase reserved instances, consolidate accounts, and negotiate discounts. By the end of the course, you’ll understand the fundamentals of AWS cost controls and be ready to effectively use the services to properly help manage and monitor your AWS spending. Make sure you don’t suffer from cloud bill shock – set budgets for AWS costs and get alerted for breaches, learn how to price up designs, choose the most cost effective solution whether it is serverless, containerized or bare EC2, find free AWS credits, and much more. With step-by-step demos in the console and CLI, and charts and graphs to thoroughly explain concepts, this course will give you all the knowledge and tools you need to spend less on AWS. Paul is an IT architect and mentor with more than 20 years of experience, working with companies ranging from startups to FTSE100 enterprises. He is now working as a cloud cost, security and design consultant, has a passion for the cost effective use of AWS services, and holds all five professional and associate AWS certifications.
