Hob and Rue do not stay in the feyrealm. Hob has, after all, just murdered a Prince and Rue has scorned the same Court the Prince was from.
They find a building, near a marsh, in the material plane. One that is in disrepair. They get to work bringing life back to it, together.
Over time, mortals spot them. They show fear and they misunderstand, but largely leave the two fey beings alone.
However- there comes a time when a traveler who is lost knocks upon their door not knowing the rumors and whispers of the Beasts that live there.
Even when faced with a giant Owlbear, she is tired and weary and accepts the aid the Owlbear offers. Tea, first, then blankets, and then- a listening ear.
She tells them she has run from her home. Delloso tells her that they understand perfectly what that is like.
The girl doesn't stay too long, but upon leaving the Bugbear assures her most ardently she is always welcome with them. She takes it to heart.
Slowly, over time, other Lost travelers show up at their home. The length of stay always varies, but they take the comfort the Owl- and Bugbear offer them with great gratitude. Word gets out, in the circles where it is most needed.
The couple see fit to expand their home, adding more rooms in case of guests. Naturally, the space is filled, so the home must grow again, until it is a proper inn.
For wayward souls- anyone is welcome, no matter their speices or age. As long as they are Lost they can be found with the gracious innkeepers, Delloso and Knick, who are happy to host them for as long as they need.

i am so happy and excited and in love with the fact that despite Andhera coming into the Bloom as it being his first time in "public" (minus the Pillar Boy stuff obviously) and that they were so nervous that they felt like they had do change everything about themself from the way they carry themself to their own voice, lowering it (which is also a whole bag of worms re: their gender identity and pronouns) and making it more 'regal'
despite ALL that, Andhera has collected allies and friends just by being himself. every time he dropped more and more of that persona, people flock to him. they let themself be vulnerable and open up to the emotions that have been called weakness their entire life, that they've been punished and abused for and that is how they make connections and find out who they really are.

the fact that a court of fey and flowers has me so invested in a romance between a bugbear and an owlbear is just further evidence of the menace that is brennan lee mulligan

I do assume pc/pc romances are gonna be more fulfilling for the audience to watch for the most part, cause they get lots of time to develop together
But Aabria's amazing ability to inject SO MUCH life and interest and character development into her npcs..... makes me really want some "what if" episodes where she introduced the love interests she said she prepared for the acofaf crew.
Like. Do i just want to watch her flirt with her friends? Maybe. But it would be soooo good

I think what has me so upset at, but still rooting for, Rue is just the larger context of their life.
Rue is not even from the fey realm. They were stolen away from the material plane, then shaped by the Court of Wonder as the Court saw fit.
And Rue submitted to them. And seemed to take pride in that work that was given to them, despite feeling the need (whether being told directly or elbowed into it by social expectations) to hide their body and face from the whole world, at all times, replaced with something considered prettier and daintier. (That alone is very hurtful on a personal level, to me). They felt they could not be loved if they looked like themself.
And, once they start to follow their heart, after so long obeying and being the perfect pet project they were raised as, things go wrong.
It comes across to me as a situation where, despite living in the fey realm for millenia, Rue just can't grasp the social structure perfectly, it's too complex and the only way they can get by is to obey.
they try to follow their heart. It doesn't work
And while revealing themself to be an Owlbear seems to have had an okay outcome, their Court is actually quite displeased with them despite dressing it up in pretty words. Through following their heart, they have also basically destroyed their relationship with Wuvvy because they were so scared of what it would mean to seek love from someone. It was wrong of them to use a spell on her, and it was tragic.
So, while I know Rue has thoughts of abolishing Courts, and Hob feels they are a function he needs, I think where the last episode left us- Hob is technically right?
Which is tragic, to me. But when Rue tries to act outside of their Courts wishes, they don't know how to do so in a manner that doesn't cause ripples of pain and complication for those they care about.
I feel I might reevaluate when the next episode comes out, but right now Rue's story is just quite sad to me and I am not sure if I love it or hate it.

Enemies-to-lovers Ruehob also gives us the opportunity for,
"You should be addicted to shutting the fuck up"
"You want to fuck me so bad it makes you look stupid"
But which is which, reader? Which is which..

Also, pitting Rue (unabashed, undeniable queerness) against Lady Sylmenar (the blissful seeming siren song of choosing to live in quiet heterosexuality) was so insane of them.
In this essay I will,

Enemies to lovers (but kinda one sided) AU where Hob's letter garbage works right away and he finds out about Rue and, as much as he wants to demand satisfaction duel-style he needs to figure out how to make them pay politically (and hopefully have them and their Court make it up to the Goblins)
But from Rue's side of things they don't really know why there's been a shift in Captain Hob's attitude so they're like "is this what Goblin flirting is like???"
So. Basically.
Hob: I Hate your guts!
Rue: okay but can you rearrange them for me tho??? 😳

Arranged-marriage au where Hob/ the Goblin Court finds out about Rue being the one to call off the Grabalba/Apollo Union prior to the Bloom and, in talks with them, demands satisfaction from their Court in the form of a replacement marriage
and the Chorus is like "this is technically your fault Rue so we will marry you off to the Goblin instead. Good day."
So. Rue is being married off to Viscountess Grabalba.
(And Hob is still in attendance at the Bloom to act as Grabalba's, Boil, and Blemish's escort and body guard, there are still rumors of an assassin in the Court of Wonder plus other plots happening. Never can be too careful.)
Rue's response is, "okay, i still want to marry for love, so if I don't fall in love with Grabalba in our first two meetings then, at the Bloom, I will ensure she falls in love with somebody so that she will not want to marry Me!"
And then of course. Rue goes and falls in love with their bethrothed's bodyguard of all fey.
It's going to be a Bloom to remember...

One of the things that really stuck out to me in the conversation between Ruehob at the very end of the episode
Was when Rue said something like "it disgusts me what people will do for a little bit of power" and at first I thought they meant Grabalba and i was like hey ouch? it's fair that the Goblin Court wants to raise their station in this climate?
(even tho, in the context of the Day rue has had, they are very much filled with rage at the at the idea of institutions so it's very heat of the moment, still kinda uncalled for)
But... to be quite honest I don't think they were talking about Grabalba or the Goblin court as a whole at all.
I think they were just actually talking about Hob?
They had literally just said "does he love me more than he loves being Major" and two of their friends assured them he does. but Hob himself, from Rue's perspective, does not!
Hob has just accepted a rise in station and political marriage and seems to be going through with it happily, and Rue is under the impression he got their letter and is straight up ignoring their confession of love?
So. While i havent reread the whole conversation because it's real painful right now, i think that particular line was more meant as a dig against Hob himself (which is still mean lmfao dont get me wrong, but it makes more sense to me??)
Which is very juicy acting from Oscar in the "you cant say what you actually mean you need to cover it up with other emotions and show it differently" type department
