She Hears Everything

FFXIV Write 2017 | Part 9: “Linkpearl” Starring Izzy Tokushi

Sunset shined on the strange object through the window. It was like a miniature version of the comical Archon Egg towers people put up in springtime, but instead of plaster eggs, it was adorned with small, glittering spheres. They were fitted into small recesses in the tower, and came in a variety of colors.

Izzy sat at her desk in an apartment in the Shroud. She barely afforded it on her wages from Mognet, but it was hers and that was important. She reached out ta hand, gingerly, and closed her eyes.

Her hand glided gently over one sphere, which began to emit a faint light. The table orchestron the tower was connected to crackled and came to life. It was a dispatch pearl for Mognet, and as was usual for her place of employment, the channel was filled with complaining moogles. Some about how long their day was, one about the lack of palm wine at the bar he delivered to. One shared a bit of gossip about a ‘moogle from the sky’ chased by Mooglesguard. It was ordinary stuff, and so her hand drifted away to another sphere.

The purple one she touched next crackled and from the speaker came a voice. A man, ranting angrily about the injustice in Ishgard. It was a heretic sermon being distributed to the listeners of a secret linkshell. She was proud of having pearls like this, typically rare finds abandoned here or there. Ones she wasn’t supposed to have. It felt like a secret. Well, it actually was a secret. But it made Izzy feel special.

Next was the weird one. It seemed to have no real purpose, and no one on it seemed to know what it was for or how they came to possess it. That one was quiet often, but once in a while very interesting things happened on it. Maybe it was some idle chatter, maybe it was someone needing help. She didn’t let anyone know she heard them, she never joined the conversations on her little tree, she just listened, and by listening, she knew. 

But Acronycal was quiet tonight, so again she tuned in another. This was for an adventuring company she delivered mail to, Arche Koeln, and she liked to keep up-to-date on the things they did. It was keeping tabs on her friends, and they were some of the very few pearls she listened to that actually knew she could hear them.

From them, she went on to another, and another, and another. This was her entertainment, the almost unsettling insight into other people and places and things she listened to every night. It was a guilty pleasure, because she knew how inappropriate it was, but it was far more compelling to her than a night at a bar or another damn musical revue or something. This was Eorzea, and from her apartment she could hear everything.

Acroyncal Update! It haaaas been too long since I’ve worked on this dang thing. I’m getting closer to finishing it and a loose goal is at least the end of September but....the end of the year may be better haha. Here are a series of panels from the comic just as a teaser! Thanks for looking.

FFXIV’S BALMUNG ROLEPLAYERS! HEAR YE, HEAR YE!

The Matron’s Wish is a social event in preparation, and an initiative of the Matron’s Reach. 

The Matron’s Reach is an in-character linkshell of healers, akin to the Médecins Sans Frontières of Eorzea. We possess clinics in each residential areas, and do free consultations on Mondays. As opposed to our open events, this one would be white-listed.

We are looking for wealthy characters to simulate a charity event, thus making it a themed event. Entrepreneurs, FC leaders, Ishgardian nobles, rich merchants, characters with higher military ranking...Think of it as a venue open exclusively for Eorzea’s highest spheres of generous donors and sponsors. What’s better for your image than giving money to help the poor and the sick? No OOC gil will be required or demanded!

The event in itself would take place on the 13th of May (Saturday), at 8PM EDT. Read more below the cut!

What are we going to discuss, there? Whatever you’d like! The Matron’s Reach will be presented, and there might be music, and IC raffles with rare OOC items to win.

What’s in it for them? Social recognition. Nobles and merchants like to put on a show; either your character truly cares for the people, or they just want people to think their care. Money is no issue! 

I have no considerably wealthy characters. Can I roleplay a rich merchant NPC to attend? Yes! Though we would like to form long-lasting network relationships, so regular player characters will be favored.

My character made money and climbed the social ladder doing illegal activities. As long as it is not ‘well known’, you are most welcome.

Where will the event occur? Somewhere in the Shroud. The location is kept secret until invitations are handed out.

Does that mean there’ll be a bouncer checking names? Yes. And that means you can pass as someone you are not, but we suggest asking staff and the concerned person first if you would like to go down that road. OOC communication is very important to pull that one!

back in my early twitter days i found a lot of bands through spam follows and tweet for a track and i suddenly remembered this song that used to make me emotional called Parachutes and i was like what band.....was that and i thought it was acronycal but i didnt try very hard to look it up and they arent really on youtube but

Thirteenth Sun of the Second Astral Moon

It’s been a strange week. Or maybe even sextnight at this point. Let me start at the end: I’m the new day-to-day Proprietress at the Bandee Pakshee. Yeah. So here’s how that whole situation came about. 

Two weeks ago, we had some clients hire A’sharah and I for a spa day. This included my longtime regular Rex, Sharah’s girlfriend Myra and Laz. Pedicures, massages, it was the whole nines. Xau and a newer employee Suiren came by as well, and the group of us joined Vandal upstairs for a nice chit-chat and catpile. Catpiles are great. 

I got this call on that one particular linkshell that some people in La Noscea were hurt, so I took Xau up to the Nymian ruins and met up with Madison and Anhe from Sword and Spear. Great folks, really! The situation we saw was... strange. A dragon gorged on aether had run amok. I know dragons, that’s not normal. Madison promised to keep me in the loop on the investigations, but it was Anhe I hit it off with. 

Anhe is adorable and she and I have a lot in common. A week later, at the Grindstone, I ran into her again and invited her to come back to the Pakshee. Sharah made it through her first round, and though Anhe was busy with her mentor that night, she said she’d visit as we parted ways. The Sharah cheering section, usual suspects though they be, came back to the Pakshee for catnip and conversation.

That’s where a simmering conflict between Mhee and Sharah stopped simmering. Mhee seemed to disapprove of the gentle and casual camaraderie of the catpile and she and Sharah exchanged heated words. I tried to settle them and think it was me that got the fight to at least not continue take place in front of guests like my beloved Rheya, but the fight just exploded again the following day.

Worse still, Mheena’s partner brought children to the Pakshee, which managed to upset virtually everyone except Uzzy himself. 

By yesterday, Mheena’s leadership and Sharah’s anger had been marks on the company in front of everyone from Spa Day, maybe even Anhe, as well as Rheya. I wasn’t going to let this conflict continue. I had to get them both to settle down.

All together, there weren’t many resources left to me. Sharah had become set on a path to cause a power-struggle and she wasn’t exactly wrong. Mheena had not been ready for the position thrust upon her, and it was showing in her burnout and occasional disregard for her own rules. But I wanted Mheena to grow and reshape into the leader we needed, not to fracture the company with a very public struggle over leadership. 

We called for Zuzu.

Zuzu - Z’zhumi Umi - is the founder of the company, and while daily operations haven’t really been in her hands for some time, she remains the person able to come in and make sweeping changes. I think Sharah and I both expected that Zuzu would either elevate Sharah to leadership or, my preference, get Mheena’s act together and find out what was at the heart of her troubles. 

I know Mhee felt in over her head, but she didn’t seem willing to reach out. I’d hoped Zuzu could fix that. 

I wasn’t expecting Mhee to leave. And I hope, one day, she sees her way home to us. I get it, though. She’d taken too much on herself and gotten burned by it. I’d been there. I tried to share that lesson with her. 

So, with her stepping down to pursue her personal affairs in a lower-stress environment, who would lead us? Well, apparently me. 

Look, all I want in live is to train courtesans, to make sure they’re safe and happy and well cared for. That’s the extent of my ambition. But, to accomplish that task, I was needed here. Zuzu heard about my efforts to find diplomatic resolutions to the conflict, she knows about my connections and relative fame as a performer. 

I just wonder if it’s right to have an Ishgardian pale as the snow wax lyrical about Sagolii culture. I still can’t pronounce ‘salaam’ right. I can’t be the face of the place. But I can run it. I believe that much about myself. And I trust the members and other managers here to be dependable.

This wasn’t how I thought yesterday would go, but I’ll see it through tomorrow.

FFXIV Balmung RPers: The Forgotten Stage is about have a weekly opening! And we’re looking for (recurring) artists! Singing, dancing, poetry recitals, theatrics, fist fights, juggling, comedy sketches... You name it.

“Remember to sit on the ground, or on the crates, or even on the stage — that furniture is magically unbreakable, that alcohol is free, and that most shows might be terrible.”

➤ What’s the Forgotten Stage? A private room for the happy few, both a bar and a theater, hidden within the lower levels of the Sultana’s Breath. All adventurers and/or members of the Acronycal Linkshell are welcome. If it is open, you are allowed to roleplay in it at any time. The Forgotten Stage can be found in the 4th Ward of the Goblet, Subdivision, Apartment 62.

➤ We seek to change the ‘sit and be quiet’ kind of performance role-play. We invite, welcome, and reward interactivity with the audience. You hate the show? Insult the bard! DO IT! You want to climb on stage? DO IT! You want to talk over the representation? DO IT. Performances should be short and sweet, and shouldn’t hinder other RP happening within the room.

➤ It is important to see it more as a casual comedy club than anything. Chatscroll is a bit of a pain, and we do better with very small crowds, but who knows what Nymeia may bring! We want to do weeklies. We want to meet new people. Etc.
