<strong>Circus Performers 1911 <a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/blue_ruin_1/">by Blue Ruin 1</a></strong> <br /><i>Via Flickr:</i> <br />Japanese and European Circus performers atop an ornate Egyptian-style wagon.
This postcard was sent to Mrs. Fred Tasere, in Cleveland, Ohio. It is postmarked 2nd September 1911, Winona, Minnesota, USA, which coincides with the Official Tour season of the Adam Forepaugh and Sells Brothers Big United Shows. The card reads as follows:
“May write a letter also tonight. Going to practice with Rosie after the show. She will be all right. Easy to learn too. I sure need her in the traps and hope to have her working in a week. Estu bona [“be good” in Esperanto] , Via Karulo ["your darling" in Esperanto] Fred.”
In 1901, the Forepaugh & Sells Bros. Circus advertised “the largest and best and all new troupe of Japanese artists ever imported from the Flowery Kingdom, under the personal supervision of H. Yamada, Impresario to the Mikado, in a series of entirely new oriental feats”.
