"Terrible things are happening outside. At any time of night and day, poor helpless people are being dragged out of their homes. They’re allowed to take only a knapsack and a little cash with them, and even then, they’re robbed of these possessions on the way. Families are torn apart; men, women and children are separated. Children come home from school to find that their parents have disappeared. Women return from shopping to find their houses sealed, their families gone."
- From the diary of Anne Frank, January 13, 1943

Hi okay this is SUPER important because!! We don't get a lot of insight into military opinions.
US Army soldiers (and their immediate families) are not allowed to publicly disagree with their leadership. This includes social media.
If you're wondering why there hasn't been any public outcry by military personnel, this is why.
Tumblr media
I have some news for members of the united states armed forces who feel like they are pawns in a political game and their assignments being unnecessary.

This is your unfun reminder that dissolving states rights was also one of the crucial steps Hitler took in his final stride towards dictatorship.
Tumblr media
From the wikipedia page of the Reichstagsbrandverordnung ("Reichstag Fire Decree"). One month later, state governments were dissolved. 18 months later, Hitler assumed complete dictatorial power. And it only took that long because Hindenburg (the guy, not the blimp) had to die first.
If several others of those aspects sound familiar to you:
yes. it's that similar.
Republicans are all for states rights and states being able to do whatever they want until it’s a blue state doing whatever they want

Every day I'm upset the english language doesn't have it.
Feierabend is a compound word made out of "Feier" (=celebrate/celebration) and "Abend" (=evening). What it means, however, is the end of your workday. At which point you feier the Abend because work is over.
And the english language doesn't even have a single word for it!! I can't go text my friends like "oh I'm just enjoying my Feierabend", I have to go like "oh I am enjoying the rest of the day now that work is done". ugly. disgusting. I will now teach all my friends the word Feierabend and they will have to deal with that.
Germans were really onto something when they invented the word Feierabend

If this is what they do to your senators - what do you think they'd do to you?
We've seen all this before, btw. [Above: Link to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum encyclopedia entry for political prisoners, who were among the first groups to land in concentration camps.]
Senator Alex Padilla of California was forcibly ejected from a department of homeland security press conference when he attempted to ask a question

hormone therapy aside: smoking fucks with surgeries.
If you're planning to get any type of gender-affirming surgery (or other surgeries but this post is about trans people) you will be asked to stop smoking. The earlier you stop, the better. At least a week in advance would be good, although even a day makes a noticeable difference. Doctors will also advise you to not start smoking after surgery, because it directly affects your body's ability to heal. Gender-affirming surgeries are relatively large alterations to your body, which means it needs to heal a lot.
The less you smoke, the less risky the procedure and the faster your recovery, the sooner you can go have freaky transgender sex or whatever you're into.
Dear diary, today I got called a transmisogynist for *checks notes* trying to encourage people to not smoke cigarettes.

From a recipe for Bourbon Chicken.
"autistic people need instructions for every simple task" okay how about we talk about the neurotypicals not following clear instructions. what do you mean it didn't work the way you wanted, i gave you the instructions. oh you didn't follow them? you didn't see where i clearly indicated the directions you were supposed to follow for this task? and you're shocked it didn't turn out right? you decided to pull a Jared I'm 19 and go rogue? you're surprised the road less travelled isn't fucking paved because no one travels it? do you get off on this

How does the saying go?
"Destroying cars is problematic because it could be my car. Destroying people is fine because I don't own any."
Tumblr media
State violence is Project 2025 playbook. MAGA is manufacturing the pretext. The lies will only get bigger and bigger.
The media really dropped the ball, by design.

Ah fuck I have an opinion on this.
Okay so first and foremost: Fuck Generative AI. I wish it exploded. The way it got forced on us was invasive, reckless, dangerous, and done without any regard for consequences, victims, or intellectual property. We know all this.
But do not make ChatGPT your scapegoat for water and energy crises. Do not absolve the actual culprits of that responsibility.
We would have the means to power every generative AI model on top of every household. The Sahara alone receives enough solar energy to cover our demand about 89 times. Reportedly, covering 1.2% of the desert in solar panels would produce enough electricity for the entire world. (Caveats: These numbers are older and probably predate mainstream generative AI, and even without it our energy consumption increases each year. The 1.2% probably also assumes a lossless transportation of energy, which isn't physically possible.) (Caveat to the caveat: Energy would never be produced in only one location for the entire world. There are more sources of renewable energy and exports into adjacent countries, up to and including Europe, would already cover a massive amount of the global energy supply.)
Let me say this again: We could, right now, have enough clean energy for everyone on earth doing anything they want.
Instead, we still rely on fossil fuels, exploiting both our planet and its vulnerable populations in the process.
The water claim is a bit trickier, because we do have a growing water scarcity problem, and it's ridiculous that we use a scarce resource to power the Plagiarism And Lies Machine.
That being said, most AI cooling systems are closed circuit, meaning they use the same water over and over, rather than pulling in new water from our supply. That's also just straight up cheaper for them to do, I assume, otherwise we might have a bigger problem. Still, the cooling process does "use up" some water, and water is necessary for basically any aspect of producing anything. What I'm trying to say is that it's really hard to make an actual estimate on how much water these systems actually use.
Thing is, we've had a water scarcity problem way before the GPTs arrived. It stems from - say it with me now - colonialism, capitalism, and climate change. Which, if you think about it, is all one thing, really. (Sidenote; that's why Greta Thunberg became staunchly anti-colonialist the more she educated herself. Weirdly around the same time the media stopped covering her. What a crazy coincidence.) (Sidenote to the Sidenote; As of writing this, Greta Thunberg is part of a humanitarian mission to deliver aid to Gaza despite the illegal blockade set up by Israel. Previous missions were subject to drone strikes. You may track the ship here.)
We generally estimate that enough fresh water is available globally to cover the needs of everyone, but supply varies massively throughout the year and based on location. To a degree (pun semi-intended) those factors are outside our control. The Sahara was already a desert 5000 years ago. We (probably) didn't do that. (Sidenote; North Africa actually went through regular humid periods for about 10,000 years until its desertification about 5500 years ago. It's possible that we could re-create this effect through climate engineering, but we're unsure what the large scale effects would be. It likely would also happen again on its own in about 15,000 more years because of space cycle stuff.)
The things within our control are handled pretty poorly, tho. The way we do large scale agriculture requires massive amounts of fresh water, for example. A lot of luxury structures, ie golf courses or water parks, use the scarce resource of clean water wastefully and exclusively for leisure. We've also done quite a bit of terraforming to build our cities and homes, directly interfering with the Earths natural systems. Rainwater, that would usually be absorbed into the ground, is stopped by asphalt. This also increases flood risks. In some places, we've also privatized the water supply, making clean water inaccessible to those without sufficient means.
And, to a very significant degree right now, human actions are affecting climate change. This is very bad. Our use of fossil fuels is a massive contributor even though, as discussed, we could be ditching them almost entirely. Deforestation at the same time lowers the planet's ability to absorb harmful gasses.
We've known about our contributions to climate change for the better part of a century now. But capitalism has always been the stronger force. Research into climate change was discouraged, suppressed, and censored, while pseudoscientific denial was boosted. Responsibility was pushed on the individual consumer rather than the giant industries. But make no mistake: Since the 60s, we've known. The fossil fuel industries knew. The Koch brothers knew. Your government knew.
They just didn't care.
Generative AI didn't cause these problems. It's not even the driving factor in exacerbating them. In a different infrastructure, it could run with next to no environmental impact. But we never built that infrastructure because it would've made some people a little less money. This is just the latest fad that values profit over your life.
Tumblr media
#ramble#fuck that turned out long#long post#for the record i am actually quite optimistic about recent developments. as renewables become cheaper fossil fuels will get left behind#its just. very late. and very slow. and colonialism made it pretty fucking hard for some countries to deal with climate change#let alone its reversal. rich countries can afford to build (read: import) renewable energy facilities. poor ones cant.#rich countries can afford to build measures against storms and droughts. poor ones cant. their people die.#rich countries can also afford “unprofitable” recycling practices. its actually usually cheaper to just buy new.#countries with welfare can also afford to close their fossil fuel productions without letting all workers starve to death.#please take a moment to process that coal mining is not actually a job we still need to do#but we keep it running for some guys profits and because the miners would be unemployed otherwise which is a death sentence#a LOT of jobs only exist because people would starve without them and its short term cheaper to exploit them than replace them.#we built an absolutely fucked up system and this should radicalize you.#climate change#fuck ai#im also specifying generative ai in this text because detection/prediction algorithms often fall under “ai”#like the ones that spot cancer with more accuracy than doctors. thats incredible. it could be a huge help to doctors and patients#none of these things are actually “ai” btw. we have not created intelligence. we created systems that are very good at guessing.#i gotta go do something else now. ive been writing too many of these and not doing my laundry.

Showing up in your scrubs to a Bundestag speech is such a power move.
This is so fucking true and so important.
To anyone who hasn’t seen it, watch it, please.
Translation below
Mr. Merz said yesterday that he wants to improve the conditions in healthcare. But to be honest, no politician has ever said otherwise.
Nothing has gotten better.
I’ve seen kids loose their parents, I’ve assisted a mother give birth to her baby in the car in front of the hospital and I’ve seen more dead people through system failure than you can imagine.
I’m from the Emergency room.
I’m not here because I studied politics, but because I know exactly what it feels to work a shift with one other nurse, taking care of 30, 40 or more patients.
When you just have to function, even though everything around you is collapsing.
A lot is written in the coalition contract. But do you know what’s not in there?
A concrete plan on how to truly improve the conditions for EVERYONE that works in a hospital or healthcare.
No minimum personell, no clear no to rates per case, no relief.
This contract is a slap in the face for everybody who keeps this damn system running day for day, while ruining their own health.
Instead of real solutions we get nice words and empty promises, those don’t help me during shifts. During those it matters if there’s enough personell, if somebody can take a break, if you go home after the end of your shift or if you add another hour of overtime and work yourself into burn out.
Miss Minister, this is your responsibility now.
And I’m telling you clearly: All those who continue to ignore the healthcare emergency right now, makes themselves at fault, for everything that goes wrong in our clinics. And also for when colleagues find patients dead.
We are your responsibility.
We need mandatory care, we need patient to nurse ratios, we need public and well financed hospitals. And we need comprehensive tariff agreements and especially for colleagues at hospitals like Charitè, tariff escapes have to be stopped.
Remember, the average age in this parliament is relatively high. That means that everyone, sooner or later, is gonna need this healthcare system.
Oh no… most of you are… sadly insured privately
Thank you

butch is a state of mind, really.
as is all gender, gender performance, and gender expression, but that's a bigger post.
theres a second bigger post about gatekeeping in parts of lesbian communities which i (trans) perceive as more intense than in other communities but considering ive never been a lesbian and i believe a lot of it gets perpetuated outside as a form of homophobia misogyny combo, that's not a post i'll ever make.
Anyway. You're butch because you want to be. The end. You're allowed to be whatever you want forever.
Girl referred to me as a butch the other day... never felt better in my entire life........ is this a sign am I allowed to feel this way

Counter proposal:

you barely even notice the digital display. and you get a sick ass t-rex
At the risk of proposing something “prep,” have you considered wearing a watch? Casio makes good affordable ones
My problem with wearing a watch is that I don't like the ones with digital display and I can't read an analog clock face. I can't risk someone asking me what time it is.
