Lewis and Emma - 1/2 years. Dan and Will 4 Years, Leela 5 years, Honey 7 years, Yvonne 8 years, Reg and Tony have to be at least 25 years - can't quite read their years.
Smiffina Episodes - Episode 440
Heaton charged Gina with looking after his prized orchid when he left for annual leave - unfortunately she forgot and has crept into his office on the morning he returns to replace it with another.
On his desk she spots confidential information with a spreadsheet that compares the older officers salary with the more modest newer intake's salary with another station and she sneaks a read - caught by Smithy who makes her jump.

"John Heaton notices everything." "It's a plant, Smithy. I've not murdered his budgie!"
She tells him what she saw in the report, "Long story short you can get three for the price of two!"
John notices his orchid has been swapped and asks Gina to bring it back to him in the hope he can revive it. He also doesn't mention the paperwork that Gina saw, but did order 12 officers to be on high visibility policing on the Jasmine Allen given its introduction onto the 10 highest crime rated areas in London. Smithy tries to calm Gina down over what she saw but she snaps back that the highest paid/longest serving PC's at Sun Hill are Reg and Tony and she won't let him just sack them. "If he wants a fight he's got one!"
Adam is in for a meeting and tells Gina he can't interfere with how Heaton decides to run the station. He also tells her that he's taking some time off unpaid to go and regroup in Nigeria.
Gina later goes to talk to him about it and she admits she looked at the confidential documents. Heaton won't be drawn and tells her only that he's aware of the merits of more officers and also the consequences of losing those with longer service. He says he'll make his report within the next 2 weeks and that their conversation is over.

We imagined how an NBA expansion draft would look today
All 30 SB Nation NBA blogs joined in to imagine a future where the league adds to expansion teams. Here are the results.
The NBA is approaching a 14th season existing with 30 teams, the longest period of time that the league has gone without adding or losing teams. Ever since the Charlotte Bobcats — now Hornets — joined in 2004, the 30-team league has been a happy, if flawed, default.
The NBA is also experiencing a global boom. It’s making more money than ever before, highlighted by a record-breaking nine-year, $24 billion television deal that kicked in last season. It’s rapidly growing in popularity both in the United States, where 29 of the 30 teams are located, and globally, where more and more international players are introduced to the league. Given the way this world works, and how quickly the NBA is rising, it was no surprise when NBA commissioner Adam Silver said this about expanding to 31 or 32 teams:
“I don’t want to put a precise timeline on it, but it’s inevitable at some point,” he told C.J. McCollum. (Yes, that’s Blazers guard C.J. McCollum).
Inevitable. That’s a strong word, but that’s where the league is headed.
SB Nation’s Tom Ziller is all over the logistics. You can read this explainer about what would need to happen for the NBA to vote for expansion, and also 13 places where the NBA could expand to, including two international options. (Not London!)
All those things have to be worked out by the smart people in the NBA before any expansion could be approved. We at SB Nation don’t have those same limitations, and we also know that there’s one especially fun thing about the process: The Expansion draft.
So, we are doing one of our own.
The concept is simple: all 30 teams can protect eight players off their roster, and the two expansion teams (it might just be one, but we’re going with two because it’s more fun) can pick from the remaining pool. They’d also get a top draft pick, but that’s not a major factor for this exercise.
We asked all 30 of our SB Nation NBA team blogs which eight players they would hold back from the expansion draft, and had them answer why.
Here’s who they protected and why:

Then there’s the actual draft.
Using the players our team communities left unprotected, SB Nation’s Kristian Winfield drafted one team, while our Seattle Supersonics blog Sonics Rising — a hopeful and extremely likely expansion team whenever it finally happens — selected the other. They will unveil their rosters at noon ET.
NOTE: Per expansion draft rules, each new expansion team is limited to one selection per NBA team. Hence, some of the picks.
Remember the time we last did this?
Tom Ziller will take a stroll down memory lane to 2004, when the Charlotte Bobcats (now Hornets) entered the league. There were some odd players left unprotected and some fascinating ripple effects.
Who would you pick?
Now it’s your turn. Here are the five most notable players left unprotected at each position.

Ginathon Episodes: Episode 233
After homophobic text messages, Lance knows he was the target of the bomb. He has no beef with Councillor Jerome Taylor who Adam suspected of planting the bomb when he was thought to be the target. Lance confronts Sheelagh Murphy's son, Connor, whose friends conducted a series of homophobic attacks for which Connor gave them a false alibi. Lance is aware that Connor has been struggling with his sexuality and has been counselling him because Sheelagh is of the opinion that being gay is wrong because of her Catholic religious beliefs. Whilst she's friendly with Lance, hearing her son is gay would be very difficult. Lance had recently changed his number and only certain colleagues, his boyfriend and his family have it. The only other person is Connor. Connor swears he didn't do it but Lance worries he passed his number to one of his friends.
He involves CID but doesn't mention Connor at first. Tony advises him to tell Jack but not Sheelagh. Lance is delayed in telling Jack as he receives a SO13 report at the same time. Sheelagh is furious when Lance tells her what he suspects. However the phone responsible for the texts is found in Connor's room.
Jerome Taylor visits the station to make a formal complaint about Adam accusing him of planting the bomb. You'd think given he sent hate mail to Adam he'd stay quiet and not want to fan the flames to stop people looking into things but I guess fire needs oxygen to burn!

Gina goes to speak to Jonathan to ask him if there's anything that Adam has to worry about. "You're really worried about the Super aren't you?" "If he's in trouble, yes." Jonathan chuckles as she moans about Adam accusing Jerome with a witness present. "It's you who finished it remember!" "Reluctantly! But at least we do have a better working relationship." "Oh absolutely. Professional to the absolute last." Jonathan tells her Jerome has a case for public defamation and aside from disciplinary action he could also make a civil case that would make Adam bankrupt. He suggests that Adam apologise or blame his medication for making him delirious.

Adam refuses to apologise to Jerome after they've had a rather tempestuous relationship over the years. He's furious no one will take him seriously and Gina's words make him realise that she hasn't told Jonathan how she feels. She explains the job got in the way and he tells her to just tell him and not let the job be the scapegoat.

Connor is found fighting with a colleague at work. It seems the colleague is the one who planted the bomb after taking his number from Connor to wind Lance up with homophobic text. Connor swears he never knew he had explosives. The colleague admits planting the bomb, spewing homophobic nonsense. Jonathan tells Gina she needs to MAKE Adam take notice and make that apology sooner rather than later before Jerome takes things further. She says he won't listen and takes Jonathan with her to try make him understand.

At the hospital, Gina and Jonathan explain they've got the real suspect and he's admitted planting the bomb. They tell Adam to think about everything that he has achieved - does he really want to let his pride make him throw it all away? Gina urges him to protect his career, himself and his family and to talk to Jerome.

With Gina and Jonathan present, Adam apologises and tells Jerome he's made a grave error. Jerome delights in telling Adam it's too late - he's already consulted his solicitor. As a public figure he has to protect his reputation and if it means destroying Adam then he's all too happy for it. He says he'll see him in court and walks out. Gina tries to comfort Adam but he tells her that if it does get that far - they both know his career is over.

Gina and Jonathan eventually have to leave and Jonathan tells her he's glad Adam has her in his corner. "What, a nagging old battleaxe?" "No, someone who can make tough decisions for the right reasons." She pauses for a few seconds before telling him it's not true that her job means more to her than Jonathan. Jonathan is confused as he thought when she didn't argue it was exactly what she meant.
Gina: "You mean as much to me as my career and I don't want to lose you. Not for anything." Jonathan: "You mean you can make space for me in that extraordinarily hectic life of yours?" Gina smiles and nods before realising that she's supposed to be giving a talk at a Neighbourhood Watch meeting. Jonathan laughs before Gina just shakes her head. Gina: "Stuff it. I'll send someone else because I might have a hot date tonight...?" Jonathan: "You sound pretty confident..." Gina: "I know what I want. " Jonathan: "Well I hope so, because from what you just said that sounds like the basis for a verbal contract." Gina: "Come on, i've got a very good bottle of single malt at home. Let's negotiate."

Ginathon Episodes: Episode 232
At the end of the last episode there was an explosion at the Lord Banbury pub where the summer party is being held. Most of the Sun Hill staff are able to make their way outside on their own feet, some with light injuries and most just shocked or coughing from the smoke. Gina looks for Adam but noone has seen him come out yet. There's secondary bangs inside the building from the structure being unstable and Gina quickly calls for a fire officer to come assess the situation. Tony can't wait and runs back in to find Adam and get him out before the building collapses. There's a further collapse that blocks the exit but Tony manages to kick the fire escape doors open and carries an unconcious Adam out over his shoulder.

Unknown to everyone except Gina, Adam has been receiving racist hate mail for quite some time through the internal mail. Back at the station and unaware of what has happened, Rob slips an envelope into Adam's pigeon hole whilst wearing a glove.
The pub is sealed off and SO13 are called to attend. Sam suggests a gas leak but Gina says none of the witnesses or officers mention smelling gas. She did spot Wayne Radford driving away when she arrived however. Instantly Rob is riled. "It could be a bomb!" Jack tells him not to get ahead of himself and to go make himself useful.
The latest news is that Adam is critical and Gina heads to her car to go and be with him at the hospital. Jonathan arrives, having rushed to the scene. Gina is still obviously in shock and worried about Adam but assures Jonathan she's OK and that it would take more than an explosion to get rid of her. Jonathan hugs her and says their last few conversations had been snapping and things could have ended so differently. He offers to go with her but she assures him she'll be ok and doesn't know how long she'll be so she'll call him when leaving.
Back at the station, Jack has found the note in Adam's internal mail and has started to think that he could have been targeted by a racist. Rob says he was sent one too and that it has to be Wayne Radford, panicking when Jack won't be swayed.
Gina is still sat at Adam's bedside when Neil comes to see how he is doing. It still doesn't look good as he's inhaled so much smoke. [Out of interest, they're saying it doesn't look good. but noone appears to have contacted his wife. It's Gina who's at his bedside for hours. This is all of a day after she called him out for being jealous she was seeing Jonathan too...] The next 24 hours are critical.

The next morning Adam starts to come round with Gina at his bedside. Jonathan is worried as he hasn't heard from Gina. It's early days but the signs are good. Jack tells uniform that the explosion was caused by a bomb and that Adam received a racist hate note.

Rob and Terry look into The Radford's involvement in the potential planting of the bomb. Rob watches the CCTV from a furniture shop across the road. Wayne arrives 2 minutes before and carries a parcel from the boot in the direction of the pub. Wayne gets back into his car seconds after the explosion and drives off. When spoken to, Wayne tells them that he was dropping off a birthday cake at Mario's, the bistro around the corner from the pub for a surprise party. Before they can leave the Radfords, it appears as though the 'bomber' may have struck again. Jerome Taylor, a local black councillor, reports he has been beaten up, told to leave Sun Hill and that he's been receiving hate mail. Rob doesn't look all that convinced, not least because it's been him and Taylor sending Adam the hate mail. He's horrified to hear about the bombing and Adam being hurt however - aware that if the notes are discovered to have come from him and Rob it makes them the most likely suspects.
Adam recounts what he remembers to Gina though it isn't especially helpful. He tells her that Denise has already asked him to leave Sun Hill over the hate mail. Gina admits he gave even her quite a scare and made her wonder if it was worth it. Adam tells her that she'll never walk away from the job as she has 'copper' coursing through her veins. She just smiles and says she's going to make times for other things - relationships for one.
Adam: "You mean Jonathan. For you to even be considering resigning there must be love in the air." Gina: "Oh give over!" Adam: "It's nothing to be ashamed of. You should tell him how you feel." Gina: "It's not me is it... all that lovey dovey stuff." Adam: "So you do love him then." Gina: "Something like that." Adam: "You can go out into the streets, take on dangerous criminals but when it comes to the man you love, you can't say three little words"

Jonathan and Gina finally catch up where she apologises for not ringing. Gina spots Lance before she can take Jonathan to her office to tell him something special and asks him to wait a moment. Tony has told Gina that Lance is struggling after he was unable to go help Tony get Adam out the pub and she goes to speak to him to make sure he's alright. Now Lance has gotten his phone and jacket back from Gina he's rather concerned by some messages that he has received. One in particular asks him to meet him by the gents toilets in the pub - where the bomb was - sent moments before it exploded.
Gina finally gets chance to speak to Jonathan. She wants to tell him that she's fallen in love with him and wants to prioritise their relationship, but unfortunately Jonathan is fed up of playing second best to the job. He speaks over her and tells her he thinks it's best to split up. "It's not that I don't love you, Gina. I'm sure I always will but I can't be in a relationship where I'm playing second fiddle." "But that's what I was going to say to you!" "Being a copper is what you are. It wouldn't be fair for me to try and change it, you'd only resent me for it anyway. It's time to call it a day." The barriers come slamming down again and Gina turns her back on him. "You know it's for you too... it's best all round." Instead of replying and telling him the truth - that she wanted to make more time for them and loves him - she shuts down and literally turns her back on him rather than let him see the truth, tears pricking her eyes.

She also turns down an invite from the relief to go out for a drink, still sounding rather choked ad she does.

Trigger warning: mentions of rape and prostitution
Ginathon Episodes: Episode 231
CID have 24 hours to get a confession from Kennedy or he'll be released. There's still no physical evidence to say it's him. Jonathan and Gina watch the interviews from behind the glass screen. Jonathan worries that Kennedy is clever and that it'll be hard to break him.

He's still watching as Kennedy admits that Jonathan got him off the indecency charge 5 years ago. "I can't believe he's lost his teeth and gone into the CPS." Neil is furious when he confronts Jonathan, but he tells him he couldn't break client confidentiality. He does tell them that it and the transcripts of what was said and how Kennedy behaved during the trial are in the case files. Neil makes a dig about him now progressing to a full blown rapist because of Jonathan getting him off. Jonathan can only repeat, calmly, that he did his job. Jonathan does tell them something that isn't in the file however, they had to delay the trial by a few days when Alan's mother was taken ill. It wasn't anything serious but he was distraught and clearly cared deeply about her. Now his mother has recently passed.
Sam thinks she has an inning finally. She wants to use his childhood to break him down to a confession. Uniform find out that Kennedy had a different surname as a child and need to check that police record and find his mother's address to search the house, suspecting that was his base during the rapes. Sam gets a breakthrough when they discover Alan's mother was a prostitute, his childhood home operated as a brothel and that it caused him to be constantly bullied.
As Kennedy is returned to the cells for a break, he crosses paths with Jonathan, calling him "his good friend." He asks how his daughter is and remembers her name and age as Jonathan tries to square up to him, held back by Tony and Gina.

Jonathan keeps trying to get in touch with his daughter, worried that Alan might be freed and go after her. Gina tells him he's not out yet and that Chloe is likely either at school still or with her friends and to not worry. Jonathan makes an unthinking jibe, "You'd know all about that wouldn't you. How many kids have you got, Gina? Two, three is it?" Gina looks hurt and silently leaves the room.

Adam wants Sam and Neil to decide if they're going to apply to the court for an extension to keep questioning Alan Kennedy. Sam is wary that they might not get one with the limited evidence they have and wonders if the time might be best used trying to break Kennedy. She wants to use the knowledge that his mother was a prostitute, his father, as Alan believed, constantly away as a marine. His childhood was blighted with abuse and bullying. Uniform have found his mothers house and are searching it. Jonathan admits finding the house is a good step, however they now have to prove that that has been his base during the attacks.
Adam reminds them they gave to finish in the next hour as Kennedy is entitled to an 8 hour break. Sam gets a breakthrough when she asks if Alan's father knew what his mother was doing and if she had any time for him in between sleeping with men for money. Kennedy shouts "All women are whores. It's what you come to expect from women. All they want is sex, they get everything they deserve." Sam asks if that includes rape. She calls him a soulless man who hates women because they don't show him love. Alan recovers, saying Sam almost had him going. They have one hour left come the morning if they don't get the extension. Adam tells them to go home and reconvene in the morning. Sam stays and goes through the pictures with a magnifying glass, finding a scar on Kennedy's mother's neck as well as reading through the letters Kennedy sent her whilst away.
Chloe Fox arrives at the station for her father to sign a permission slip for a trip. At the same time, Kennedy is removed from his cell and taken to an interview room. Thankfully Chloe is already in Jonathan's office so doesn't see him - but she does meet a very surprised Gina who introduces herself. "Oh! Are you dad's girlfriend?" Jonathan arrives before she can reply and Chloe hands him the form to fill in. She tells him she can't forge it "because it's against the law." to Gina's amusement. He then gets an officer to escort her safely out.

As Sam and Neil return to the interview room for their final hour of questioning there's an audible clock ticking. Sam brings up the scar. She conjects that it was caused by a punter who cut his mother and made her scream for mercy. She suggests he panicked because the man was hurting his mummy and he didn't know what to do because he was only a young boy. He went to the hospital with her where she promised that they would be alright but it didn't stop. His mother continued to work as a prostitute rather than go and find his father so they could be safe. She suggests he cried and was angry and finally lashed out at someone - but not his mother because she'd been hurt enough and was all he had. During this time, Uniform continue searching the house of Alan's mother and find a knife likely used in the attacks hidden away.
Sam continues her same tactic and tells him they know that he lashed out with a beer bottle and slashed the face of a woman walking past his school. He was expelled but nothing changed and he was still angry. He couldn't stay at home as he was too scared to see what his mother was going through. He had no one to speak to and so decided to look for his father - who he'd never met. She suggest he thought bringing his father home to look after them would make everything alright. He headed to Scotland, only to find out his mother had lied to him. There was no John Kennedy serving in the marines. Finally Alan breaks and starts to cry. Sam says his mum had lied to try and keep him happy by letting his dad think was a hero when he was really a punter she didn't remember. Sam then produces a picture of Alan and his mum, suggesting Alan wanted to keep the lie going as without it he had nothing. He wrote to his mother to tell her he too was going to be a marine like his father. He needed her to keep lying to him because the truth was too unbearable to face. She didn't keep the lie going for him however or even write back. She was busy with her punters - punters who literally ripped her apart for pleasure were more important than her little boy. She must have cared about them more than him. Must have enjoyed what they did to her.
Sam continues, talking to Alan like she cares and understands. How dare his mother take away the hope that he would have a father who loved him. Someone to finally take care of him and want him above all else. He took his rage out on someone else to make them pay for his mums betrayal. She names his first victim - a prostitute, Brenda Kelman. Finally Alan speaks and tells Sam that noone has gotten to know him like that and in hearing it all played back he realised he's become one of the monsters that his mother feared the most. Sam takes his hands in faux comfort, getting the confession just before the time ran out.
Gina invites Jonathan to the Sun Hill Summer Party but unfortunately he has too much paperwork to complete he's unable to go. He does however apologise for what he said to her and for hurting her. He tells her he once lost Chloe for a couple of hours when she was 5 as she wandered off and he panicked and felt like it was happening all over again - only this time there was a serial rapist threat. "It's left a scar, you know?" "No I don't know, Jonathan." Gina says evenly. "As you so eloquently put it, I'm not a parent." "I'm sorry. It wasn't called for." "Right. What's done is done." "I should have had more confidence in you." Gina smiles a little and nods at him before leaving to go to the party.

As Gina pulls up outside the pub where the party is being held with her colleagues already inside there's a loud noise and explosion with lots of smoke and screams filling the air...!

Ginathon Episodes: Episode 216
"Good morning!" "Someone's in a good mood..." Adam muses as he watches Gina move around the station. "The sun is shining and the cells are full of villains, what more could we want?" She is rather surprised to spot a bunch of flowers waiting for her in her office, however, smiling as she reads the card.

Gina visits Jonathan in his office, thanking him for both the flowers and their date, telling him 'it was good. Surprisingly good'. She smiled, enjoying how relaxed it felt without the usual 'first date pressures' including 'wondering who to ask who out for the next date'. Jonathan smiles. "Are you free later in the week." "Oooh..." Gina pretends to think. "Is tomorrow alright?" Jonathan almost laughs. "I'm glad to see you're playing hard to get." "I gave that up in my thirties." she smiles, kissing him.

Quite possibly interrupted by the worst possible person given Gina's own history with Adam...!
Adam: [in his office alone with Jonathan] "I know we're supposed to be working closely with the CPS-" Jonathan: "I apologise. It was unprofessional." Adam: "It's a good job it wasn't a defence brief who walked in on you!" Jonathan: It won't happen again. Adam: "Make sure it doesn't." Jonathan: "In future all personal contact with Inspector Gold will be had away from the station." Adam: "It might be wiser if you ended the relationship all together."* Jonathan: "I'm not prepared to do that!" [They're interrupted by Phil]
*[Could there be a little bit of jealousy there, Adam...?]
Adam is a little off with Gina later too.
Gina: "I hear you told Jonathan we should stop seeing each other." Adam: "It's hardly what I'd call professional behaviour." Gina: "You're right. So I'm going to tell everyone that we're seeing each other and we'll keep our distance in the nick." Adam: "I still think it compromises your working relationship." Gina: "Or is there a bit more to it than that?" Adam: "Meaning?" Gina: "Well the way you're reacting anyone would think you're jealous." Adam: "Don't flatter yourself. I have a wife and a family. I'm happily married." Gina: "Doesn't mean you're happy seeing me with another bloke." [Yet again they're interrupted by who else, but Phil!]

Smiffina Episodes - Episode 384
Last episode, Smithy was found unconscious behind the wheel of his car that had crashed down a bankside. There was a bottle of vodka on the dash and Louise had died in RTA.
This episode, Smithy slowly comes round not knowing where he is or what has happened. Yvonne supports his neck and tells him to keep still as Tony urges the ambulance to come quicker.
June calls Adam and gets him to come back in, telling him what has happened. She says Smithy was found unconscious at the wheel of his car by a man out walking his dog who saw nothing else. The accident was logged at 6.15pm - when he'd still be on duty - and he was in 'half blues' (his uniform shirt with his coat over the top). Adam asks June to let him know as soon as Smithy is able to talk as thankfully it looks like it's just cuts and bruises at the moment.
At the hospital, Yvonne whispers to Tony that Smithy doesn't yet know that Louise is dead. She has to get him to take a breathalyser and the hospital say he can be released as he's got minor cuts and bruises and is drunk/starting to hang. Smithy asks Yvonne what's happening because he's got a banging headache and feels really sick and she gets him to take the breathalyser. Smithy is literally stunned that he's over the limit and struggles off the bed to grab the machine to do it again himself.
Smithy panics, not knowing what is going on or how he got to the hospital or why he's there, begging them to tell him what is going on. Yvonne has to arrest him as Tony gently breaks the news that a woman was knocked down by his car. Smithy is clearly stunned and asks if she's okay.... Yvonne has to tell him not only that the woman has died... but that it was Louise. Smithy passes out - only stopped from hitting the floor by Yvonne and Tony holding him up.
June has to book a clearly shell-shocked Smithy in at the station, asking Yvonne to go see the Superintendent. A silent Smithy shakes his head to refuse a solicitor or a fed rep and Tony literally has to propel him across the floor to get him to move for an official breathalyser test. He blows a 47 which is over the limit of 35.
Adam asks Yvonne what happened and she tells him that Louise was hit at speed by a car that drove away. Smithy's registration plate was found at the scene and he was found at the wheel of his car a short distance away. Yvonne tells him she doesn't know if Smithy could have knocked Louise over - but the evidence points that way.
The FME tells June Smithy isn't fit for interview so he's bailed until 8.30am the next day when the DPS will interview him. Smithy tells Yvonne there's noone to contact for him as he can't face anyone else so she tells him he's coming back with her. He tries to resist but she won't take no for an answer as he needs someone there for him whilst he comes to terms with the entire situation.
Adam arrives takes him aside, asking him why he left when he was still on duty. Smithy tells him he wanted to speak to Louise and tells Adam he doesn't know why, he just had to see her. He almost passes out again and Adam helps him to a chair as he cries. "I don't understand, I don't know why any of this is happening to me." Adam comforts him and strongly advises him to request both a solicitor and a fed rep - not just for the sake of his job but also for the chance he might go to prison. He tells him to go home with Yvonne and try and sleep and hopefully things will start to come back to him.
Smithy does exactly that and Yvonne goes to put the kettle on, leaving him alone for the first time since he found out what had happened. Smithy glances mournfully around the room before breaking down heavily in tears as he struggles to process the last few hours.

Yvonne has to tell the relief that Smithy has been arrested over Louise's death. She also tells them the DPS is running an investigation internally over it. Roger and the rest of the relief mock that news whilst Emma looks strangely uncomfortable.
"Looks like we're leaving just in time, the DPS have arrived." growls Roger. "How can you tell it's him?". "The smell, Lewis. The smell and the look on his face like his mother couldn't run fast enough away from her cousin if you get my drift." Good job that the DCI talking to Adam isn't any of their fathers on the quiet, hey Emma?
Frank Keane isn't overly popular in Sun Hill. This is not least because he's investigating Smithy, that he's part of the DPS... but he's also the man who investigated Jack when he was accused of taking backhanders (Episodes 378/379). "He's the best man for the job." Adam assures Jack. "If you're sure, but if you ask me, he'd be knitting at the foot of the guillotine." Jack mutters.
Zain asks Jack what they're going to do about Smithy. Jack says the DPS are handling it and they're not allowed to. Zain isn't impressed and insists that they don't know Smithy and they won't be able to solve the case correctly. Jack tells Zain he feels exactly the same way but what can they do about it? Zain fixes Jack with a Paddington Bear Stare. They can work it of course!

Jack relents and agrees to let Zain make some discreet calls. "I've had enough of Keane to last me a lifetime."
Frank asks Adam what Smithy's account was. Adam admits he couldn't remember much. Frank scoffs unsympathetically and suggests now he's sobered up he'll remember more. Frank asks if he knows Louise and Smithy were having an affair. Adam admits that he knew and that Smithy had told him it had ended. Frank points out that it clearly hadn't and berates him for lying to which Adam insists it was probably to keep his private life private and that noone at the station thinks Smithy had anything to do with it. Frank just shrugs, telling Adam they now have a witness that they're tracing and to hope that he is singing from the same hymn sheet. The witness has been spotted on the CCTV from the area. Admittedly it's not clear but he can be seen in the telephone box - it's the man who rang 999.
JT tries to get Yvonne's attention to the front desk but she's too busy to come through and hurries off so Adam has to be contacted . It turns out it's Smithy at the front desk, having to be signed in and 'collected' for his interview.
Zain comes to Smithy and tries to reassure him that he is doing everything he can to clear his name. He offers to talk it through with him and they go into the front interview room whilst Smithy waits for Adam and Frank. Smithy tells Zain he thought he could get to Louise and back within half an hour. He wanted to say a final goodbye to Louise before she went to enter Witness Protection. This was about 10 past 4 but the accident has been timed at just over 2 hours later at 6.15pm when the phone call was made to the emergency services. He asks Smithy what happened in those 2 hours. Smithy doesn't know, he doesn't remember drinking, driving or anything... but he knows he did not and would not kill Louise. "I've been set up." Zain nods. "First thing I thought of. Pete Larson." Smithy confesses that he also thinks he was drugged as he's had a few of the symptoms of GHB or rohypnol poisoning.
In an interview room with the DPS, Smithy is still refusing legal representation or a fed rep. He tells Frank he wants to try sort it out between them if they can without any official legal involvement. Silly boy! He tells Frank he still can't remember much but he's sure he's been set up by Pete Larson. He'd tried to kill her before (and had attacked Smithy!) and this time he's succeeded because she's the only one who could put him away. He thinks that he didn't kill him because he needed someone to pin it on, and that it's also a way of punishing Smithy for 'taking' Louise. Smithy fights back tears and tries to compose himself repeatedly. He admits they tried to stop the affair but couldn't... his voice breaks as he allows himself to start to say that if they had stopped... but he can't complete the ending that - Louise would/could still be alive if they had.
Smithy confesses their plan for the future, that Louise was going to fly to Australia after the trial and set up a new life. Smithy was going to hand in his notice and fly out to join her so they could be together. Frank scoffs that Pete couldn't set up all this from inside, but Smithy insists his influence is all over London as he is a powerful man with all sorts of contacts. "I was drugged! I was set up!" Smithy tells a disbelieving Frank. Frank wonders aloud if Smithy is pointing the finger at Pete to divert attention from himself. Smithy gets worked up as Frank insinuates that he's the guilty party that they argued and he 'accidentally' clipped her as he drove off in a rage. Smithy refuses to hear a bar of it. "I didn't kill Louise, because I couldn't." he chokes out. Frank cuts off the interview, saying they'll have the forensic results soon.

Jack asks Zain for any updates, he tells Jack that there was a room booked in that hotel under Smithy's name. The staff don't remember seeing Smithy but they do Louise. Zain continues that it ties in with Smithy's theory that he was drugged and can't account for the missing 2 hours.
Frank tells Adam that he's had an update on Smithy's phone and that a text was sent to Louise's from it at 6.10pm saying: 'Meet me at the Bestborough Hotel. I've got a surprise for you.' "This means his story doesn't hold up." Frank insists with Adam nodding. OR IT COULD MEAN THAT HE WAS, Y'KNOW, DRUGGED AND SET UP AND IT WASN'T HIM THAT SENT IT?! Fucks sake, Frank and Adam!
Frank agrees that Smithy should be bailed for now and Adam goes in to tell him. Smithy is blaming himself after his realisation earlier... he tells Adam he should have finished it and that it's 'all down to me'. Adam appears to be regarding Smithy differently and seems rather standoffish compared to the day before, telling him only to go home and sleep and nothing about the alleged text. (It wouldn't be so bad if it didn't come quite so soon after Adam's own set up problems with Isaac Collins in episode 329!!)
Adam and Frank attend the scene where the traffic officer confirms that it was Smithy's car that caused Louise's death after the forensics had been completed. The tire tracks proved that she was hit at speed and that the car mounted the kerb to do so and then did a U turn and came back on itself to drive at her a second time. It was no accident.
Back at Yvonne's Smithy has managed to fall asleep finally and the TV quietly plays a film to itself. At guns are fired on the screen, Smithy's brain helpfully replays some of the day before - specifically being taken hostage at gunpoint. He then goes to pour himself a drink of vodka but before he can drink it the smell causes another flashback, being force-fed and almost waterboarded with a bottle of vodka. He rings Zain and updates him.

Neil returns to Sun Hill on attachment from MIT at personal request of Jack and Adam. (Background: If I remember rightly, he took a sabbatical when his paedophile father in law was found out and murdered in 344 and it turns out in 366 he's with MIT for a change of scenery/get away from ghosts when he returns for a short while to investigate the serial killer targeting gay men ending in Lance's death. He then returns again for a short while in 378/379 when Jack is accused of taking backhanders. He returns for this and then when MIT are dicks, he refuses to be involved with their investigation into Smithy as he knows the man and knows he wouldn't do it and so transfers back properly in 387. )
Frank presents Yvonne with CCTV picture of the man that they want to trace as a witness. Roger glares down the corridor as he watches with some other uniform officers... but Emma can't escape this time and when Frank says hello the others wind her up for being on first name terms with the DPS and she has to confess that he's her father...

Neil updates CID with what has happened and that it is now a murder case and that it was a deliberate murder. Zain insists that it was a set up by Pete Larson and Smithy was drugged. Jo adds that Smithy's symptoms - amnesia, nausea, loss of consciousness - do back this up. Frank just insists that it 'could' be a convenient cover. Sun Hill are not happy - literally glaring back at him after a group "WHAT?!"
Frank insists that Smithy is a copper and he would know how to play the game and that he could be making it all up. Jack quickly jumps in to stop them lynching Frank, saying they have to check everything that could give them a lead. They also want to interview Louise's friend who let her stay at her place over Christmas whilst she was away to see if she can tell them anything about her and Smithy.
Smithy comes in to speak to Neil and Frank, telling them he's remembered that he arrived at the hotel as usual, parked in his usual place and the next thing he remembers there's a man with a gun in his face telling him to get back into the car and drive. He remembers being ordered to drink vodka or be killed - or watch Louise be killed. He was wearing a balaclava so Smithy can't give a description. Neil asks about the man's voice and Smithy says he can't remember if he was young or old or if he had an accent and FRANK LITERALLY ROLLS HIS FUCKING EYES right in front of him! He clearly doesn't believe any of it. Thank god for Neil being so calm and helpful for Smithy or I'd need to replace my monitor by now... Smithy can't remember the gun - which given his knowledge and history is a big fuck off sign too! - and insists he was drugged.
Frank takes over and asks what happened in the missing two hours of his life. "I was out. cold." Smithy repeats. "Then how was a text message sent from your phone at 6.05pm to Louise?" (that's changed considering it was 10 past earlier...) HE JUST FUCKING SAID THERE WAS A MAN IN THE CAR WITH HIM WHO FORCED HIM TO DRINK AND DRUGGED HIM. That is an answer for BOTH OF THOSE.
Ahem.
Frank doubles back to knowing that it was a deliberate killing now and not an accident and that his theory 'could' be right that they did argue. (so could Smithy's, not that you believe it Keane!) and that he loved her so much that he'd risked his life for her and that rage and fury took over. Neil is clearly not happy with Frank's methods.
Emma tries to talk to Roger about her father. Roger's still not happy, telling her that Smithy is innocent and that if her father condescended to talk to any member of the team he'd know that. Emma storms out when Roger tells her that it'll take as long as it takes for the evidence to come forward because it will be found and Smithy will be cleared, whatever her father thinks. She returns with a list of telephone numbers to all the shops and churches etc in the area that the telephone box was in and she splits them with Roger. They appear to track him down as a landlord says it sounds like one of his regulars.
Jack is in the Sgt's office with a shell-shocked Smithy who can't believe that Frank thinks that he killed Louise. Jack reassures him they'll clear his name and asks him about Pauline Burton. Smithy tells her that she's an old friend of Louise's. When she and Pete got together the two women fell out but they've patched it up and Louise has been staying with her. Smithy admits that if Louise would tell anyone that she was going to leave the country for Australia it'd be Pauline.
Jo and Zain have to tell Pauline that Louise has been killed in an accident. Pauline is gutted and slowly explains that she and Louise had patched things up. She says that she'd met a new man who had made her see Pete for what he was and that he was called Dale Smith. Unfortunately though she can't say that she'd ever met Smithy as the relationship was over just before she moved in. Noone thinks to ask her if she'd been around for the entire fucking time though - they don't see that she's been away for Christmas... or even consider that Louise was a known private person used to keeping secrets (this is why them staying at hotels doesn't make sense when Smithy has his own place and Louise was staying in a 'safe' place away from Pete!) Oh no...Frank just angrily demands from Smithy why Pauline is telling them that the relationship was over. Smithy explains that the less people who knew the less risk there was of Pete finding out.
Also? Smithy already told them before that the man had black gloves and a balaclava on but Frank's all 'yours is the only dna in that car' which is literal bullshit anyway because what? Smithy's never given anyone a lift? He brought it absolutely brand new? It's a GG51 reg! It was a 5 year old car by that point! There'd be loads of DNA in that car that would need testing and no way fibres from the man's clothes wouldn't be amongst them too!
Smithy's blood results show that there's no sign of GHB or anything else in his system but GHB is only detectable in his blood for up to 8 hours. He didn't have blood taken at the hospital! And given that if it was administered at say before 5 (it works for 3/4 hours after) to make him pliable to get everything set up if the drinking didn't work and to get the vodka in too he'd need it taking before midnight/1am to show it up! (The others would last longer but urine samples are a more common test for Ket/rohypnol according to google as they're more reliable). Neil reassures him and tries to gently jog his memory again.
Roger tells Emma that the landlord is pretty adamant that the witness is a man called Carl Caplan who is an insurance clerk in the day and a delivery driver at night. Sounds like a man with money issues no...? Two jobs? and one who frequents a pub often enough for a pint before doing his delivery driving job (...!) to be recognised?
Neil is concerned that the evidence is stacked against Smithy and MIT are working to that. Jack insists that he's still innocent and they will prove it.
Caplan is approached by Emma and Roger and brought in. Jack and Smithy think it's going to be good news. This is The Bill after all... how can it be? Frank praises his daughter and tells her she's too good for Sun Hill and that she should take the fast track option. She's adamant that Smithy is innocent as her team tell her. "If it's good enough for them...."
Caplan tells them that he is working two jobs because he's struggling financially after a messy divorce with maintenance, a house mortgage and rent for his bedsit. He tells them he was too scared to come forward because 'the way that man was driving, it was obvious that he meant to hurt that woman.' Carl seems shocked that Louise is dead and insists he was scared that the man would find out who he was and go after his kids. He seems awfully detailed on exactly what they should be told too. He tells them that he saw her as he passed the hotel, she was getting out of a car whilst reading a text message. There was no one else around and then a car came from nowhere and charged at her. He shouted look out to her and she ran but the car hit her. He says he got a good look at the driver and can identify him. He picks Smithy out of a WADS line up. Jack has to tell CID who clearly can't believe it either. Zain instantly points out that he's clearly a plant. Jack agrees - and tells Jo to set up financial checks into Caplan. "I don't believe this. Only one witness, who just happens to ID Smithy who just happens to be involved with the wife of one of London's biggest gangsters. Caplan has been briefed and placed at the scene!" Insists Zain. "Let's prove it." Jack adds.
Neil tells Yvonne that they've got the ID, Caplan identified Smithy... and Yvonne has to charge him as duty Sergeant - despite not agreeing with it. He's charged with Louise's murder in front of Frank, Adam and Neil in the Sgt's office...He remains silent for the entire time, even when he's lead to a cell, simply handing over his warrant card to Adam.

Smiffina Episodes - Episode 289
A continuation of the huge fire and explosion from Episode 288.
Gabriel is still stood over Andrea as she screams for help whilst trapped under the rubble. She begs him to help her and he does seem to contemplate it... but he's also aware that in doing so, it means that his secret would also come out into the open.

He tells her it's his second chance - he can put it behind him and move on because everyone who knows is or will soon be dead. She begs him and says she won't tell anyone and he physically pulls his hand away from her and turns, leaving the room whilst the copy of the article burns.

Adam hurries to find Gina in the yard as she stumbles out of the station, together they start actioning the plan of what to do - getting the first aid kits, the ambulances, creating a rendezvous point and contacting neighbouring stations to take their prisoners.
Inside, Smithy starts to come round as Gabriel tries to fight his way out but he's trapped under the rubble and can't free his legs. Gabriel sees his way for 'redemption' and saves him. Gina literally runs towards Gabriel as she sees him carrying Smithy out, screaming for a medic.

In custody the prisoners are rioting in their cells, the fire alarm is still going off and June, Tony and Leela are none the wiser as to what has happened as they can't get further into the station and the phone is dead. June takes charge and makes plans to get all the prisoners out of the cells and into vehicles in the yard so they're still contained. They get them outside and the largest of the prisoners starts to kick off, needing three officers to restrain him - giving chance to two brothers to steal one of the police cars and escape (!)
Poor Marilyn is trapped and unconcious in the burning front office with an oblivious Reg still wating at the train station where they had their first date to propose to her.

The badly burnt body of a female is found and loaded into an ambulance without the officers knowing who it is initially. Gabriel panics, if it's Andrea and she's still alive - she could tell someone!
Neil is outside Andrea's flat, leaving her a voicemail. He tells her he still wants to leave Phillipa and asks for a second chance - despite Adam's warning the day before. He doesn't yet know of the explosion and thinks Andrea is giving him he cold shoulder.
Neil and Ken are still missing and can't be contacted, Neil apparently on 'personal business' and Ken believed to be following up on another case after he'd told Phil he couldn't find Colin. At a local community center that has been taken over as the meeting point for Sun Hill staff, Adam tells the gathered members of staff that it's Marilyn who was taken to hospital and that Ken and Neil are still unaccounted for. He doesn't know that Andrea was still in the station. Sun Hill is officially declared a crime scene and potential terrorist attack as they don't know the official motive behind the attack.
Marilyn is concious and asking for Reg who still doesn't know, his phone is constantly engaged as he's trying to get hold of her. Tony reassures her that they're getting him to her. He then goes to see Smithy to 'cheer him up'. "It's a good idea you only banged your head. Anywhere else you might have done some permanent damage." Smithy asks how everyone is and Tony updates him on Marilyn. He asks about Ken, Tony is confused... before Smithy tells him the horrifying truth about Ken's whereabouts.

The front of the station is gutted and Gina reports to the other officers at the cordon that they've found another body that the superintendent is having to identify. As she does, Tony contacts her and tells her about Ken being in the back of the van just before the explosion. Jim stares dejectedly at the front of the station as a stunned Reg appears and asks him what has happened and if he's seen Marilyn. Reg rushes straight to her bedside. He can't seem to take in how serious it is and is incredibly chipper for Marilyn, adamant she's going to make it. He refuses to listen to Tony who repeats the doctors words that Marilyn might not make it.
MIT are called in and CID are in shock about Ken. Jim tries to reunite with June and she is in too much shock to take it all in, asking him to stop. Gina interupts and tells them they've found the stolen police car but not the prisoners. Jim finally locates them with Leela, he punches him in the stomach when he mocks Ken's death and has to be dragged off. In the resultant argument outside, Tony tells him that June and Roger are in a relationship.
Neil hurries to the station having heard the news. Ken appears to be the only death so far though they can't work out why he was in the back of the van. He continues trying to find out what has happened to Andrea. The newspaper tell him she's missed an appointment and they want to know when to expect her - he suspects she's in the building. He finds Smithy at the hospital and asks him about Andrea. Smithy confirms that he can't be sure Andrea definitely left he building. He reports this to Gina who speaks to the station officer of the fire brigade. They confirm that they've found Andrea's body trapped under a pile of rubble. Neil holds it together until he's left alone and he hides around a corner, breaking down in grief.
Very sadly, Reg tells Marilyn that he was going to ask her to marry him and that he was sure she'd say no as he sits at her bedside. He slides the engagement ring onto her finger and as he does - she flatlines.

Smiffina Episode - Episode 133
Smithy has a 'customer' in the cells who says that he used to make an illegal deal with Nick over drugs in exchange for Nick 'getting him off' whenever he was arrested. Gina over hears the complaint and takes it to Adam. Adam in turn says he would never have agreed to help Nick and arrange rehab if that was true. At the rehab center Nick explains that the 'customer' is trying it on.
Smithy admits he'd rather that Nick didn't return after rehab because he would struggle to trust him. Adam says that he needs and deserves their support and life experiences make people better officers. Smithy still isn't happy but Gina tells him he's going to have to like it or lump it.
The suspect still shouts it long and loud to Gina and Adam that Nick helped him out - but they refuse to believe him and state that his charges will remain the same and that making a complaint against Nick will not help him with his current case. On hearing this, the complaint is withdrawn.
Smithy still isn't happy and asks Gina if she's going to just accept it. Gina sums up that accepting orders and decisions from senior officers is part of their jobs "whether we agree with them or not."
Gabriel fits a suspect up who makes a complaint against him. He twists what happened with Nick in the process and simply shrugs and says he's innocent and that the difference is "Nick has form, I haven't." Smithy asks Gina why Nick gets stuff sorted personally by the Superintendent. Her response is simply that Nick is a long serving officer and Gabriel is a probationer. Smithy adds that Nick is a drug addict and Gabriel is a 'decent member of the team' (give it a few months, Smithy...) who could be facing suspension. Gina points out that if Ruby - who was present - backs Gabriel up he has nothing to worry about.

Smiffina Episodes - Episode 442
Beth Adamson, one of the alleged victims of the serial rapist suspect, Keith Durante, has made a 999 call to say Durante is following her again. Beth is nowhere to be seen until Emma shouts from around a corner to alert Smithy she's found him. Smithy crouches down in front of her and gently comforts her, reassuring her she's safe. Emma remains at the scene trying to find witnesses to either Beth screaming or Durante following her.
Adam arrives, telling Gina his sabbatical isn't able to start until he's solved the problem that is on the front page of the paper...

He's also horrified to hear that Heaton has told Gina to move on if not happy and that she's seriously considering it! Gina tells him everything that has been happening since he arrived and that Heaton ignores everyone else's opinion and decides what's happening only by himself - despite not knowing the area or his officers. Adam reassures her he'll talk to him. In return she agrees to attend the mayors 'do' that evening for a goodbye drink just for him. The DAC asks Gina to make sure that John attends the mayors do that evening too.
Adam listens, alongside the Deputy Assistant Comissioner, as Gina approaches Heaton with a problem that has been raging all week without any input from Heaton other than to direct the public to the press office. Unfortunately that approach is worse than useless and with 2 of his superiors in the room, Heaton finally has to fold and tells her to get the available officers into the briefing room and let him know when she's ready. As she leaves, Gina and Adam exchange knowing looks.
The DAC and Adam confront John about the paper report, where the neighbours whos house was barged into without permission or any history of being attached to the 'crack den' next door are saying that if the gran who died was treated like they were then it's no wonder she has died. He claims the headlines are nonsense and Adam points out he needs the papers onside so Heaton invites both down to the problem estate with him to hear the public opinion for themselves.
Before they leave, Gina takes Tony into her office and lets him into the plan of the Superintendent to potentially replace the older officers with 2 new ones and warns him to remain squeaky clean.

Kezia goes to speak to Jack about the Keith Durante case and updates him on the mornings happenings with Beth. Kezia says she'll speak to Beth's phone company to ask about the calls and then will pay a visit to the Durante house. Mrs Durante tells Kezia that Keith was at an interview with a cab office during the time he was alleged to have harassed Beth. His wife doesn't look overly surprised but before she can open up Keith returns home and stops them. His wife looks incredibly uncomfortable too as he kisses her cheek in greeting and he hands Kezia a business card for the cab company, telling her he got the job so his alibi will cover him. Beth is horrified to hear he has a job with another cab company after he used his car with his old cab company to pick her up and then went on to rape her. With no evidence they can't prosecute him. Worse off it appears to be pure chance they were on the same street because of his job interview.
Another 999 call comes in regarding Beth, it appears she's received a bunch of flowers with a card saying 'I'm sorry, we need to talk'. She attacked the driver, threw the flowers everywhere and stormed off according to witnesses. Kezia stops her from approaching the cab company Keith works and comforts her. The calls that were harassing Beth came from call boxes and the flowers were purchased by a teenage boy that could have been put up to it by Durante. Kezia believes Beth's constant rejection of him is what is fueling him because she thinks he's ready to admit what he did to obtain forgiveness from Beth. She wants to set up a meeting with Beth and Durante and be just a minute away. They set up Matt to tell her what she can't ask him and prepare her for what they need for it to be used as evidence.
Adam tells John that he should keep Gina onside as she's a valuable asset. "Sun Hill works much better with Gina than without her." He tells him to set up local initiatives and to tackle the cause rather than just the symptoms. Heaton insists they won't work without showing the boundaries first and what will and won't be accepted. "That's all very well for public morale, but what about the morale of those at the station?" Adam asks. They get called to Tony and Leela who have had their tires slashed and one of their reg plates stolen whilst assisting a young girl. Heaton growls at them and bollocks them for it and tells Tony he's attracting lots of attention today and to stop it. Adam whispers to him to watch himself just incase Heaton tries anything big.
As a fun aside: Tony and Leela have a car chase round the back of the studios 😂

Beth has left a message on Durante's voicemail for him to come round and the surveillance dept are planting hidden cameras and microphones around her place as Smithy and Kezia watch. Smithy is going to be in the bedroom as Beth's security and he'll be able to hear it all and also receive instructions from Jack through an earpiece. They tell her to appear at the window if she wants him out and they'll send someone to 'break it up' casually without the cover being blown so they can repeat it if necessary. Keith calls and arranges to come over and Sun Hill move - Smithy in the bedroom and Jack, Kezia and other extras in the flat next door - just a few seconds away.

Keith tells Beth he has been dying to talk to her and claims he feels like a teenager preparing for his first date. He claims he's fallen head over heels for her and that Beth is special and that she deserves to be wooed and he should be gentle with her. He claims he had a wandering eye until he met her and everything has now changed and his wife means nothing. He's close to admitting that he forced her... and then his wife rings and interrupts them and changes. He leaves to return home and the officers move in to support Beth. She claims she can't keep doing it until they get the breakthrough and walks away from them.
Gina and Heaton have a discussion about where they go from there. He says if she decides she can work with him all his fine, if not.... She tells him she likes the station, the team... but she is struggling to find something to like about John. She then tells him that she was impressed by the compassion he showed Beth Adamson before she went to 'meet' Durante and realised he might not be quite 100% bad after all. He admits that his zero tolerance approach might not work in every case and she smiles a little and points out he just admitted he was wrong - they start a literal 'oh yes it was' 'oh no it wasn't!' row - before both stop, pause, and burst out laughing at the ridiculous exchange.
As they return to the station, Kezia attends a debrief with the DCI and, deflated, heads downstairs. Smithy sees her and asks her to go for a drink that night to cheer her up after a disappointing day. They get interupted by Yvonne who has received a report from the plain clothed officer outside Beth's. A man was knocking and didn't get an answer but a window was open around the back - Kezia fears that Durante has Beth and runs back upstairs to alert Jack. Keith is nowhere to be found and Kezia visits his wife and tells her that Beth has disappeared. Louisa tells Kezia that he told her Beth was obsessed with him and that he loves her and she was a mistake. Louisa is clearly confused but she admits to Kezia if she believes what she's saying about him then that makes her husband a rapist. Kezia assures her she'd make sure that she was safe... she's said that to Beth many times too (!) She tells Louisa all she needs is a statement saying she wasn't with her husband at the time of the attacks. Before she can agree, Keith tumbles in and passes out cold. Kezia has to call an ambulance.
Gina and John have made up somewhat after their talk and both agreeing to be more flexible with each other and they attend the drinks do together. Adam is pleased to see them getting on. The DAC approaches them and tells Gina there are people John needs to meet so asks her to excuse them. She leads him further into the room and then adjusts his tie like a wife might... we've found 'the other woman'... It's obvious that Adam has realised too.

It does seem to be a rather cruel irony that Gina and Adam finished because Gina found out that she couldn't have children and left him '15 years ago' when she was 31/32 (end 1980's) only for Adam to go on to lose not only his wife but children in an accident.
For three extra streaks of cruelty it 1) ended up happening right after he's been working so much overtime that he hadn't been around that much so hadn't seen much of them, 2) Gina was called to it and had to comfort Denise because no one could get in touch with him as he was at a meeting and 3) It was Gina who had to tell him that Malcolm and Leia had died and that their mother was in a serious condition - only for her to go on to pass minutes later.
