Ginathon Episodes: Episode 236
Smiffina Recap here.
Gina looks through her post and is very confused to find she's won a competition she didn't even enter! She suspects Smithy is on the wind up and calls him into her office. He is very amused to hear that Gina's won an all expenses paid dream wedding.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
"You and Jonathan are-" "No no no! We are not! And I have not entered any competition! It has to be a practical joke!" "Alright...maybe Jonathan did it. Perhaps he's trying to drop you a hint?" "Do me a favour and keep it zipped!" Adam and Jonathan arrive to speak to Smithy and Gina - and Smithy quite literally shoves it behind his back to hide it whilst the two men are in the office.
Tumblr media
Gina is further confused when she answers June's telephone to her that her [June's] her wedding dress is ready! It appears that Jim and June are about to get married and are keeping it on the downlow. Smithy grins and asks if the dream wedding can stretch to be a double wedding? "Ask Honey 'Traffic Duty For Life' Harman! She's behind all this. She thought a dream wedding was just what me and Jonathan needed." "Well isn't it?" Smithy muses.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Gina sidles up beside June when Custody is otherwise empty and tells her that her wedding dress is ready. She's saddened June is only having a small do that she's obviously not as happy about as she makes out and realises there's a home for her prize after all.
Jonathan comforts Gina after a difficult case involving Jerome Taylor and reminds her that there's more to life than work. "Thank you for that little pearl of wisdom." "Well forgetting it cost me my marriage and I'm not going to make that mistake again." he says, kissing Gina's cheek. "Life first, work second. That's my motto." "Yeah..." Gina sighs, watching him leave the room.
Tumblr media
Gina crosses to the Sgt's office and tells June that it's not OK for her to go out and pick up a few small bits for the wedding. "Concern from a member of my relief about my impending spinsterhood caused me to receive this and I need it like a hole in the head so you can have it." She says, handing June the prize. "Is this a joke?" "Yes. But not at your expense." Gina assures her. June says it's just like handing her a blank cheque and she can't take it. "You can and you will and you'll buy yourself something nice!" she insists. "Long time since I wept at a bride!" "I don't know what to say!" "You don't have to say anything, as long as you don't ask me to be one of your bridesmaids!"
June tells Jim about the competition win and that Gina insists they take it. Loved up, Jim announces to the canteen that he and June are getting married and that they're all invited. He thanks Gina in his speech and Jonathan asks what he meant. Gina covers by saying that she told them not to hide it and to make a big deal of celebrating their marriage. Smithy is visibly amused but out of respect for Gina keeps quiet about what Jim really meant.

Jonathan finds Gina having a scotch and cigarillo in her office at the end of a long and tough day.
Gina: "I'm bloomin' shattered!" Jonathan: "There's still life in the old girl!" Gina: "This old girl could do with a little bit of Fox charm this evening." Jonathan: "No can do I'm afraid, Law Society dinner. You'll notice the charm drops around the 5th bottle of chianti." Gina: "Oh I didn't realise you had plans." Jonathan: "You're not put out are you?" Gina: "No, you've got your life, I've got mine..." Jonathan: "Yeah and that's why it works so well when we do spend time together. " Gina: "You're absolutely right." Jonathan: "Course I am, I'm a lawyer!"

Ginathon Episodes: Episode 233
After homophobic text messages, Lance knows he was the target of the bomb. He has no beef with Councillor Jerome Taylor who Adam suspected of planting the bomb when he was thought to be the target. Lance confronts Sheelagh Murphy's son, Connor, whose friends conducted a series of homophobic attacks for which Connor gave them a false alibi. Lance is aware that Connor has been struggling with his sexuality and has been counselling him because Sheelagh is of the opinion that being gay is wrong because of her Catholic religious beliefs. Whilst she's friendly with Lance, hearing her son is gay would be very difficult. Lance had recently changed his number and only certain colleagues, his boyfriend and his family have it. The only other person is Connor. Connor swears he didn't do it but Lance worries he passed his number to one of his friends.
He involves CID but doesn't mention Connor at first. Tony advises him to tell Jack but not Sheelagh. Lance is delayed in telling Jack as he receives a SO13 report at the same time. Sheelagh is furious when Lance tells her what he suspects. However the phone responsible for the texts is found in Connor's room.
Jerome Taylor visits the station to make a formal complaint about Adam accusing him of planting the bomb. You'd think given he sent hate mail to Adam he'd stay quiet and not want to fan the flames to stop people looking into things but I guess fire needs oxygen to burn!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Gina goes to speak to Jonathan to ask him if there's anything that Adam has to worry about. "You're really worried about the Super aren't you?" "If he's in trouble, yes." Jonathan chuckles as she moans about Adam accusing Jerome with a witness present. "It's you who finished it remember!" "Reluctantly! But at least we do have a better working relationship." "Oh absolutely. Professional to the absolute last." Jonathan tells her Jerome has a case for public defamation and aside from disciplinary action he could also make a civil case that would make Adam bankrupt. He suggests that Adam apologise or blame his medication for making him delirious.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Adam refuses to apologise to Jerome after they've had a rather tempestuous relationship over the years. He's furious no one will take him seriously and Gina's words make him realise that she hasn't told Jonathan how she feels. She explains the job got in the way and he tells her to just tell him and not let the job be the scapegoat.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Connor is found fighting with a colleague at work. It seems the colleague is the one who planted the bomb after taking his number from Connor to wind Lance up with homophobic text. Connor swears he never knew he had explosives. The colleague admits planting the bomb, spewing homophobic nonsense. Jonathan tells Gina she needs to MAKE Adam take notice and make that apology sooner rather than later before Jerome takes things further. She says he won't listen and takes Jonathan with her to try make him understand.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
At the hospital, Gina and Jonathan explain they've got the real suspect and he's admitted planting the bomb. They tell Adam to think about everything that he has achieved - does he really want to let his pride make him throw it all away? Gina urges him to protect his career, himself and his family and to talk to Jerome.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
With Gina and Jonathan present, Adam apologises and tells Jerome he's made a grave error. Jerome delights in telling Adam it's too late - he's already consulted his solicitor. As a public figure he has to protect his reputation and if it means destroying Adam then he's all too happy for it. He says he'll see him in court and walks out. Gina tries to comfort Adam but he tells her that if it does get that far - they both know his career is over.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Gina and Jonathan eventually have to leave and Jonathan tells her he's glad Adam has her in his corner. "What, a nagging old battleaxe?" "No, someone who can make tough decisions for the right reasons." She pauses for a few seconds before telling him it's not true that her job means more to her than Jonathan. Jonathan is confused as he thought when she didn't argue it was exactly what she meant.
Gina: "You mean as much to me as my career and I don't want to lose you. Not for anything." Jonathan: "You mean you can make space for me in that extraordinarily hectic life of yours?" Gina smiles and nods before realising that she's supposed to be giving a talk at a Neighbourhood Watch meeting. Jonathan laughs before Gina just shakes her head. Gina: "Stuff it. I'll send someone else because I might have a hot date tonight...?" Jonathan: "You sound pretty confident..." Gina: "I know what I want. " Jonathan: "Well I hope so, because from what you just said that sounds like the basis for a verbal contract." Gina: "Come on, i've got a very good bottle of single malt at home. Let's negotiate."

Ginathon Episodes: Episode 232
At the end of the last episode there was an explosion at the Lord Banbury pub where the summer party is being held. Most of the Sun Hill staff are able to make their way outside on their own feet, some with light injuries and most just shocked or coughing from the smoke. Gina looks for Adam but noone has seen him come out yet. There's secondary bangs inside the building from the structure being unstable and Gina quickly calls for a fire officer to come assess the situation. Tony can't wait and runs back in to find Adam and get him out before the building collapses. There's a further collapse that blocks the exit but Tony manages to kick the fire escape doors open and carries an unconcious Adam out over his shoulder.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Unknown to everyone except Gina, Adam has been receiving racist hate mail for quite some time through the internal mail. Back at the station and unaware of what has happened, Rob slips an envelope into Adam's pigeon hole whilst wearing a glove.
The pub is sealed off and SO13 are called to attend. Sam suggests a gas leak but Gina says none of the witnesses or officers mention smelling gas. She did spot Wayne Radford driving away when she arrived however. Instantly Rob is riled. "It could be a bomb!" Jack tells him not to get ahead of himself and to go make himself useful.
The latest news is that Adam is critical and Gina heads to her car to go and be with him at the hospital. Jonathan arrives, having rushed to the scene. Gina is still obviously in shock and worried about Adam but assures Jonathan she's OK and that it would take more than an explosion to get rid of her. Jonathan hugs her and says their last few conversations had been snapping and things could have ended so differently. He offers to go with her but she assures him she'll be ok and doesn't know how long she'll be so she'll call him when leaving.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Back at the station, Jack has found the note in Adam's internal mail and has started to think that he could have been targeted by a racist. Rob says he was sent one too and that it has to be Wayne Radford, panicking when Jack won't be swayed.
Gina is still sat at Adam's bedside when Neil comes to see how he is doing. It still doesn't look good as he's inhaled so much smoke. [Out of interest, they're saying it doesn't look good. but noone appears to have contacted his wife. It's Gina who's at his bedside for hours. This is all of a day after she called him out for being jealous she was seeing Jonathan too...] The next 24 hours are critical.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The next morning Adam starts to come round with Gina at his bedside. Jonathan is worried as he hasn't heard from Gina. It's early days but the signs are good. Jack tells uniform that the explosion was caused by a bomb and that Adam received a racist hate note.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Rob and Terry look into The Radford's involvement in the potential planting of the bomb. Rob watches the CCTV from a furniture shop across the road. Wayne arrives 2 minutes before and carries a parcel from the boot in the direction of the pub. Wayne gets back into his car seconds after the explosion and drives off. When spoken to, Wayne tells them that he was dropping off a birthday cake at Mario's, the bistro around the corner from the pub for a surprise party. Before they can leave the Radfords, it appears as though the 'bomber' may have struck again. Jerome Taylor, a local black councillor, reports he has been beaten up, told to leave Sun Hill and that he's been receiving hate mail. Rob doesn't look all that convinced, not least because it's been him and Taylor sending Adam the hate mail. He's horrified to hear about the bombing and Adam being hurt however - aware that if the notes are discovered to have come from him and Rob it makes them the most likely suspects.
Adam recounts what he remembers to Gina though it isn't especially helpful. He tells her that Denise has already asked him to leave Sun Hill over the hate mail. Gina admits he gave even her quite a scare and made her wonder if it was worth it. Adam tells her that she'll never walk away from the job as she has 'copper' coursing through her veins. She just smiles and says she's going to make times for other things - relationships for one.
Adam: "You mean Jonathan. For you to even be considering resigning there must be love in the air." Gina: "Oh give over!" Adam: "It's nothing to be ashamed of. You should tell him how you feel." Gina: "It's not me is it... all that lovey dovey stuff." Adam: "So you do love him then." Gina: "Something like that." Adam: "You can go out into the streets, take on dangerous criminals but when it comes to the man you love, you can't say three little words"
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Jonathan and Gina finally catch up where she apologises for not ringing. Gina spots Lance before she can take Jonathan to her office to tell him something special and asks him to wait a moment. Tony has told Gina that Lance is struggling after he was unable to go help Tony get Adam out the pub and she goes to speak to him to make sure he's alright. Now Lance has gotten his phone and jacket back from Gina he's rather concerned by some messages that he has received. One in particular asks him to meet him by the gents toilets in the pub - where the bomb was - sent moments before it exploded.
Gina finally gets chance to speak to Jonathan. She wants to tell him that she's fallen in love with him and wants to prioritise their relationship, but unfortunately Jonathan is fed up of playing second best to the job. He speaks over her and tells her he thinks it's best to split up. "It's not that I don't love you, Gina. I'm sure I always will but I can't be in a relationship where I'm playing second fiddle." "But that's what I was going to say to you!" "Being a copper is what you are. It wouldn't be fair for me to try and change it, you'd only resent me for it anyway. It's time to call it a day." The barriers come slamming down again and Gina turns her back on him. "You know it's for you too... it's best all round." Instead of replying and telling him the truth - that she wanted to make more time for them and loves him - she shuts down and literally turns her back on him rather than let him see the truth, tears pricking her eyes.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
She also turns down an invite from the relief to go out for a drink, still sounding rather choked ad she does.

Trigger Warning: Discussion of rape.
Ginathon Episodes: Episode 229
Gina drops in for a few minutes before her official return after her and Jonathan went on an African Safari just to check that everything is OK and to see if there's anything she needs to deal with immediately.
Tumblr media
She hears shouts coming from the canteen and hurries through in time to see Cameron beating the living daylights out of Gabriel after he taunts him about raping Kerry. Gina breaks it apart and threatens both with arrest.
Ginathon Episodes: Episode 230
Gina tries to get Gabriel to drop charges against Cameron for his attack. Cameron isn't exactly helpful as he will only tell Gina that it's a private matter. Gabriel claims he doesn't know why Cameron assaulted him and he wants him kicked out. Kerry tells Cameron that Gabriel has the CCTV tape that shows Cameron distract her from the victim in the armed robbery who had the bomb strapped to him. It shows her take her attention from the victim to shout Cameron back - and then the explosion. That is why she didn't report the rape the day before like she'd told Cameron she was going to.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Jonathan works with Sam and the CID officers to build the case against Serial Rapist Alan Kennedy. He tells Sam that they need more than the basic forensic evidence (soil sample and boot print matching one of Kennedy's) to have a charge authorised. One of Kennedy's victims caught a glimpse of him and Sam hopes that she can pick him up through an ID parade. Kerry says that Khadijah isn't strong enough and - when Sam visits her - it's clear that she's far too fragile to be involved.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The first chance they get, Jonathan and Gina meet up outside to catch up on how their days are going - with Gina playfully telling Jonathan off for smoking because he was giving up. He tells her about Khadijah and she tells him about Gabriel. "I thought he was the aggrieved party?" he asks. "Just because he's not guilty of one thing doesn't mean he's not guilty of another." Gina sighs. Jonathan teases her about being a die hard police officer and she points out being innocent and being proved innocent are two different matters. "Cut you in half and is says 'Evenin' all' right the way through does it?"
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Gina asks Kerry what the fight was about. She says she has no idea. Gina tells her Cameron would be right there for her if she needed him to be and asks where her loyalty is. Gabriel taunts Kerry in the women's locker room so she marches out to tell Gina that he raped her. Gabriel continues to mock her as he follows her, claiming it'd just be her 'crying rape again' and that he has the video of what really happened at the armed robbery. Kerry insists she doesn't care anymore and it's about protecting Cameron. "Sacrifice yourself for Pretty Boy? You ain't got the bottle." he snarls. "Just watch me!"
As Kerry is about to confess all to Gina, Sam and Jonathan arrive with Khadijah who has gotten up the courage to try and identify her rapist. Unfortunately, Khadijah catches sight of Gabriel and freaks out. In Gina's office, Kerry bluffs that a picture of Gabriel from a poster she'd been making to commemorate a party had accidentally fallen from her bag mid-talk with Khadijah and she saw it and got the wrong idea. The truth is that after Gabriel raped her, Kerry suspected Gabriel was the serial rapist and showed Khadijah the picture to see if she recognised him. Gabriel tells them he spoke to Khadijah when she was in hospital and she'd have recognised him from there. Kerry is bollocked by Sam and Gina and told that identification was the only strong link they could have gotten to put Kennedy in the frame. When asked what she has to say for herself and with Gabriel smugly smirking at her, Kerry has to take it all and keep quiet.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Gina senses something's wrong with Jonathan. Kennedy was a City high flyer until he was accused of indecent assault. It was Jonathan who defended him. He blames himself for putting a serial rapist back on the streets. He tells her that Kennedy quite obviously enjoyed the circus of the trial and the legal loopholes that Jonathan used to defend him and seeing his victim humiliated all over again. Jonathan has a daughter the same age as a missing child who it's suspected could be another victim. "I can't help thinking "What if it was her?"
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Gabriel confronts Kerry for showing Khadijah his picture, thinking she was setting him up. Kerry simply says that he raped her so why not the rest of them - she had to know if it was him. Gabriel calls her a stupid bitch and advances on her. Kerry grabs a glass bottle from the table and smashes it, holding it out towards Gabriel. He says he'd never take women off the street and rape and cut them like Kennedy. Kerry scoffs "Oh that's bad is it? What you did to me? How's that different? Good rape, bad rape...? Maybe you could explain it to me because I'm a little bit confused right now." For weeks he'd been telling her that it's no big deal whilst she's felt dirty and empty whilst trying to drink herself to sleep each night and hoping she wouldn't wake up in the morning and hating herself for being weak. She tells him there's only so far someone can be pushed before they can't be hurt anymore and she's at that point. If he ever goes near her again she promises him that she will kill him.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Gina confronts Gabriel later in the canteen. "You said we don't see eye to eye, you and I. Well the truth is, I've always seen you as a conniving, scheming and ultimately selfish little toerag. But I'm giving you a chance to prove me wrong...." she says before suggesting a compromise to save Cameron's job. He agrees without hearing what it is. "I don't really care anymore." he says, walking off.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Cameron and Kerry have a heart to heart that gets interrupted by Honey. It breaks the reconciliatory mood (there'd been something brewing between them whilst the two were apart). Cameron gets a call which leads to Kennedy being found and Cameron arresting him. "At least that's one rapist scum off the streets." he says in response to being congratulated, staring threateningly at Gabriel as he does. Gina tells Cameron if he tells her what the fight is about, she'll write a report full of mitigating circumstances and he'll keep his job. Cameron says he can't tell her and he realises it will cost him his job so he's booked a flight home to Sydney that night, resigning with immediate effect.
Honey tells Kerry that Cameron is leaving and she runs off to find him, literally chasing his cab and begging him to stop. He does and they talk with Kerry learning that the mother of his child is taking their daughter over and he doesn't say no when she suggests they might get back together down the line. He'll only get back together with her if she comes out with him to Australia and won't stay - even for a few more weeks. They share a kiss and he gets back into his taxi and leaves her behind.
Even as someone who isn't Kerry's biggest fan - how many bloody times can one girl be kicked in the face in just one episode?!

Ginathon Episodes: Episode 217
Gina is tied up at work after Don Beech managed to double cross Neil and escape when Neil gave his old Sgt 10 private minutes to 'reacquaint himself' with his girlfriend before his prison return. To distract her, Jonathan shows her a brochure about an African Safari after she'd shown interest in holidaying with him but that she didn't want a 'tame' holiday. A safari is as far away from Gina's style as it can get - especially as it includes spiders and hot air balloons! Before she can get over her surprise and speak to him about it, Neil steals Jonathan away to discuss official matters.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Gina comforts Sam over a glass of whiskey in her office, reassuring her that she wasn't to know that Cavanaugh was dodgy. "I tell you what, I am never going out with another police officer. Never ever!" (yeah... you might want to revisit that thought later down the line, Sam! Twice!) In order to cheer her up she shows Sam the African safari brochure. It works... for Sam at least!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Elephants, rhinos, buffalo, leopards and lions are what Jonathan is looking forward to seeing. Gina asks about spiders and Jonathan says Gina doesn't strike him as someone frightened of spiders. Immediately she covers. "I'm not... I'm quite fascinated by them really! Particularly the big black hairy variety." "We can hunt them down when we've found the buffalo." "Oh. Fantastic." Gina enthuses in a tone that is suggesting it's anything but. "I can't wait." She excuses herself to speak to Sam who is still very amused.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
In order to think about something else, she asks Sam how Ken is (Ken's son potentially committed a crime overnight and is currently missing) and won't be drawn on if she's actually alright.
When Ken's son is found, the first suspicions are his sentence could be anything from 18m to life imprisonment dependant on the evidence. Jonathan suggests that they don't have to go right now if she would rather stay whilst it's sorted, telling her he hasn't yet booked tickets "It's just you said you didn't mind where we went...?" Gina realises he's been winding her up too as even he didn't think she would go. "There's only one answer to that then isn't there..."

Ginathon Episodes: Episode 216
"Good morning!" "Someone's in a good mood..." Adam muses as he watches Gina move around the station. "The sun is shining and the cells are full of villains, what more could we want?" She is rather surprised to spot a bunch of flowers waiting for her in her office, however, smiling as she reads the card.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Gina visits Jonathan in his office, thanking him for both the flowers and their date, telling him 'it was good. Surprisingly good'. She smiled, enjoying how relaxed it felt without the usual 'first date pressures' including 'wondering who to ask who out for the next date'. Jonathan smiles. "Are you free later in the week." "Oooh..." Gina pretends to think. "Is tomorrow alright?" Jonathan almost laughs. "I'm glad to see you're playing hard to get." "I gave that up in my thirties." she smiles, kissing him.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Quite possibly interrupted by the worst possible person given Gina's own history with Adam...!
Adam: [in his office alone with Jonathan] "I know we're supposed to be working closely with the CPS-" Jonathan: "I apologise. It was unprofessional." Adam: "It's a good job it wasn't a defence brief who walked in on you!" Jonathan: It won't happen again. Adam: "Make sure it doesn't." Jonathan: "In future all personal contact with Inspector Gold will be had away from the station." Adam: "It might be wiser if you ended the relationship all together."* Jonathan: "I'm not prepared to do that!" [They're interrupted by Phil]
*[Could there be a little bit of jealousy there, Adam...?]
Adam is a little off with Gina later too.
Gina: "I hear you told Jonathan we should stop seeing each other." Adam: "It's hardly what I'd call professional behaviour." Gina: "You're right. So I'm going to tell everyone that we're seeing each other and we'll keep our distance in the nick." Adam: "I still think it compromises your working relationship." Gina: "Or is there a bit more to it than that?" Adam: "Meaning?" Gina: "Well the way you're reacting anyone would think you're jealous." Adam: "Don't flatter yourself. I have a wife and a family. I'm happily married." Gina: "Doesn't mean you're happy seeing me with another bloke." [Yet again they're interrupted by who else, but Phil!]

Ginathon Episodes: Episode 213
More detailed Smiffina based recap here
Smithy is annoyed at being confined to Custody as he feels it's a push out of the way whilst the unofficial allegation is still hanging over his head. Gina tells him she's fully behind him and knows he has nothing to hide but until there's an official allegation her hands are tied. Smithy's upset he hasn't got a proper chance to clear his name. He's innocent and wants everyone to know it. Jonathan has been watching them talk and tells Gina that if he was Smithy he'd be glad to have her as his boss. "Well you're not. Thank you very much." She says cooly, making a very quick exit.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Jonathan knocks on Gina's door and asks her who agreed to let Kerry work a rape case when she's dealing with the pressure of her own allegation. Gina points out that she hasn't yet made the allegation official and Jonathan insists that's just semantics and she's not the right person for the job. Gina explains she's a trained SOIT officer and "that's what they do." "Well, you know best I suppose." "Oh I'm so glad you noticed." Gina retorts. With classic timing, Debbie arrives behind Jonathan. He returns to his office and Debbie asks Gina how the harmonious relationship with the CPS is going. "Who's bright idea was it to have a resident solicitor anyway? It's a waste of resources!" Debbie smirks, telling Gina that Jonathan clearly gets under her skin. "What?!" Gina looks up sharply. "Oh don't be ridiculous!"
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
In the meantime Kerry goes to speak to Gina and explains that she isn't going to make the allegation official because she knows Smithy, she knows how he acted towards her before everything kicked off and, despite things getting messed up and confused by outside sources (namely Gabriel!), she knows he didn't and wouldn't rape her.
Jonathan approaches Gina after hearing an update on the case that Kerry is working on and tells her she was right, Kerry is working it properly. Gina tells him Kerry is now saying that Smithy didn't rape her. "It takes guts to admit you've made a mistake. Especially to you." He says gently. "I'll let her know she's got a new admirer." she murmurs, trying to walk off. "Kerry?" Jonathan chuckles. "No, she's not my type." "I don't think I want to know, thank you!" Gina replies.

Ginathon Episodes: Episode 212 (With a little addition)
Kerry follows Gina, pointing out that she hadn't been given an assignment or beat in the briefing. Gina tells her she wants her to work on an assault case that has been waiting to be completed and presented to the CPS. Kerry assumes it's an excuse to keep her from the other uniform officers. "Now why would I want to do that?" Gina asks. "Because of The Smithy Thing?" Gina reminds her she's going to have to decide whether or not to make it official and Kerry tells her she hasn't yet. Gina tells her she can't put it off forever and that she wants her to do the job she's given her in the meantime.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Andrea presses Kerry to find out if the allegation has been made official. Kerry says she's being punished by being kept in because 'she dared to make an allegation'. Do these people not look behind themselves before they bitch? ESPECIALLY when it's about Gina?
Tumblr media
Gina interrupts them and continues through to the front office where she finds Adam. She updates him there's still no information from Kerry about if she's going to make the allegation official. Later Kerry finds herself alone as everyone not-so-subtly leaves the canteen table she joins. Tony and Gary make themselves clear they believe Smithy and that Kerry is being cruel holding him to ransom by not giving him chance to clear his name by making it official or telling people that it isn't true once and for all.
(As an aside for @everythingisdragons this is an episode featuring Don Beech as Neil's informant for an armed robbery. It's the first episode for DI Peter Cavanaugh from NCIS (Pronounced Ensis. National Criminal Intelligence Squad, not the naval drama.). He has Honey, Sam and Debbie all batting their eyelashes at him. "I think I've just fallen in love!" Honey whimpers at her first sight of Peter. )
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Kerry takes the case that Gina asked her to work to Jonathan. She tells him that the defendants and victims are as bad as each other and have records for similar crimes. A witness saw the attack but couldn't say who started it. Kerry suggests the whole thing be NFA'd and due to lack of helpful evidence Jonathan agrees.

(Jack is FURIOUS when Peter tells him about Neil's information from Don Beech. Neil explains that Don was his Sgt (Don arrived at Sun Hill in 95/Series 11. If Neil is Andrew's age he'd have been 20-23.) Jack wants to hand it over to NCIS because he wants nothing to do with anything that Don is involved in but Neil insists Sun Hill have done the groundwork so should see it out. Peter suggests he stick around to 'help out'. Okaro agrees as Peter has more information on Trevor Little (an Australian criminal that Don works with whilst he was on the run). Can Debbie and Sam be more obvious?🤣)

Jonathan sits in on a conversation between Jack, Peter and Neil with regards to the armed robbery and what they suspect might happen when Trevor Little makes his next move. Jack suspects Don could be in on the robbery and spinning a yarn to take the police focus away from what is really happening. Neil doesn't think Don would do that but Peter admits it is a possibility. Jonathan tells them that they're not just looking at information coming from a bent copper but also someone with a serious criminal record with no sign of contrition. If they were to proceed and the case made it to court, it would have to be a confidential disclosure as to where the information came from. Neil suspects that Jack is only holding back on acting on the case and using the full CID department because Don is involved. Jack reminds him he doesn't have a clue what game Don is playing and warns him to never question a decision he's made again. There's always a price when it comes to Don.

Honey: It's about time we got a bit of talent around here, innit!
Debbie: "There's been a mini influx of male totty lately. I wouldn't say no to Jonathan Fox."
Honey: "That old bloke from the CPS? You're having a laugh aren't ya? But then again I guess he is more your age..."
Tumblr media
(Don tells Neil that if he agrees he owes him one, he'll give him everything - the time, the place, the hit. Neil thinks about it and agrees. "It's tomorrow, 10.30, near Butler's Wharf." "And the hit?" "Gems, diamonds... enough for you and half of London to retire on.")
Gina questions Jonathan to find out if he read the entire file that Kerry presented to him. He admits he only listened to what Kerry said and worked from that because she said there was insufficient evidence. Gina points out that her team spent a huge amount of time on the case and says the detailed witness statements and defendants records were more than enough to push it over the line. Jonathan suggests that perhaps Kerry didn't present the evidence in the best light. "Well I think it's still worth pursuing!!!" Gina says firmly. "And I agree with you." Gina's had the wind knocked out of her sails somewhat, having expected more of a fight. "...What?" He promises to look at it again and see what they can do. "Well don't you do me any favours, Mr Fox!" "No favours, it's my job." he says reasonably. "Right! Well! ...Thank you very much!" Gina flusters, fumbling almost with his door before making a quick exit.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Gina calls Kerry to her office before she leaves. She tells her what Jonathan told her about Kerry not presenting the case correctly and calls her out on doing it on purpose because she was made to remain in the station. She tells her Smithy is returning tomorrow so she wants her final answer about the allegation by then.
Jonathan spots Debbie leaving and invites her to go with him for a drink rather than the gym. Debbie agrees as Gina watches them, looking absolutely gutted.

Trigger Warning: Discussion Of Cancer
Ginathon Episodes: Episode 323
Smiffina recap here.
Jonathan returns to Sun Hill the next day and asks to speak to Gina. JT tells him she's not in and Smithy tries to cover telling him it's a dentist appointment. Jonathan smiles and tells him it's alright, he knows what's really wrong with Gina and asks if she's at the hospital. Smithy nods but tells him he doesn't think it's a good idea to go see her but Jonathan won't be stopped.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Gina's incredibly surprised to see him at the hospital and - in true Gina Gold style - tries to tell him where to go because she doesn't need anyone. Knowing not to argue with her after an initial pushback he turns and starts to go - only for Gina to stop him and ask him to stay.
She tells him she's not scared of the cancer itself but it's the lack of control and uncertainty that is really upsetting her. Gina doesn't leave anything to chance and, sadly, now she's got the biggest thing in her life happening and can't do anything to influence it outside of the obvious (stopping smoking). She hates appearing fragile and Jonathan tells her accepting support doesn't make you fragile and that he understands she needs to be in control of things but sometimes that can't happen.
He's going to be there for her to lean on whether she likes it or not. Gina salutes him with a 'sir!' as she gets called in for a treatment though follows it with a smile.

Trigger warning: discussion of cancer
Ginathon Episodes: Episode 322
Smiffina recap here
Gina is at work but is really suffering to keep a lid on her cervical cancer treatment alongside her work. Her stress levels increase further when her ex boyfriend, Jonathan Fox, returns and she fears that he might know about her illness. She fears having to really open up and face what she is dealing with or - god forbid - receive sympathy from the man and so shuts down.
He's called in because he's acting as prosecuting counsel on a case involving Terry's brother but took the opportunity to call in himself so he could catch up with Gina again. He suggests they have a coffee later. "Who told you?" she asks. He's lost and says he doesn't know what she means and she says she's too busy to play silly games and asks him to leave. Though confused he does as she asks.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
He goes to see her later and tells her he really is there for work but if she doesn't want to catch up then he's not going to be shocked or surprised given how she was previously when they were together.
She tells him that she knows he knows so there's no point in hiding it. She says she's got cancer and she's dealing with it and doesn't need sympathy as it's progressing as it should and she only has a few radiotherapy sessions to go. She asks if it was Smithy who told him .
Jonathan gently says he's known all of 20 seconds and it was Gina Gold who told him though he supposes there's nothing that Gina Gold would want from him. She says there is actually - to keep his tea and sympathy far away from her. She didn't need looking after before and she still doesn't. Knowing there's no point fighting with her, Jonathan does what she says she wants and leaves her to it.

Ginathon Episodes: Episode 238
Smiffina recap here
Gina spots Jonathan arrive at the station but he's too busy to speak to her. She asks when and he says 'later'.
Gina tries again later and says she tried to ring him the night before but he didn't answer. "Dad's duties. It was parent's evening at Chloe's school." "How did it go?" she smiles, trying to keep him engaged in conversation. "Did they say she's bright enough to follow in her father's footsteps?" Jonathan's smile in response is rather sad. "Bright...? Not quite the words I'd use for me. More like the old fool." Gina tries to invite him to go for lunch so they can talk and he shakes his head. "Not today."
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Gina goes to see him later and is surprised to find him packing.
Gina: "... You're leaving? Oh. So that's it is it? All or nothing? Okay. We have decided to go our separate ways but we can still work together can't we? Relationship or not?" Jonathan: "I'm transferring to another station. I told them I needed to work closer to home. I didn't bring you into it." Gina: "So you're going to walk away? Just like that?" Jonathan: "Well you don't want to marry me. You don't want a relationship, well - not a committed one." Gina: "I told you I'm happy as I am!" Jonathan: "Are you? Because you don't seem that way to me. You have this image Gina like you're self sufficient. What are you afraid of? You've made everything so safe, so unthreatening. Nothing's gonna come close. Nothing's gonna rock your boat." Gina: "It's not like that." Jonathan: "Then why are you so closed down? What are you afraid of? Someone's going to really love you - is that it? God, what then, huh? You might actually have to open yourself up and take a risk and let them in. Bit scary eh? There's a chance... just a little chance you might be truly happy." Gina: [voice cracks and is barely above a whisper] "I'm alright." Jonathan: "I know you're alright. But don't you think you deserve better than 'alright'?"
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Gina turns and leaves his office in a hurry, the tears she's trying to hide from him already almost visible on her face.
She returns to his office a little later to try and talk to him again but he's already gone. He's left a picture of them at the wedding with 'Be Happy' written on the back of it, almost breaking her into tears again.

Ginathon Episodes: Episode 237
Smiffina recap here
It's the day of Jim and June's wedding. Sun Hill are done up in their finest and are in attendance at a beautiful country hotel. As they wait for Jim and June to arrive, Gina reminds Honey not to mention a word to anyone about how the wedding came to be - ESPECIALLY not Jonathan. "It should have been you in the frock today, Ma'am! That Jonathan Fox is a right catch!" "I'm very touched by your concern for my love life but I'm happy as I am!"
Later, Gina asks Jonathan what his wedding was like and he explains that it was a typical East End affair. Not quite pie and mash and the pearly king and queen though as his ex wife - Carol - had a grander ceremony in mind. "I'd only just finished paying for it when the divorce came through." He regrets how cynical it made him but he admits he's mellowed with the years and is very happy with Gina.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Smithy: "Gina scrubs up alright, don't she!" Jonathan: "Hold your horses, she's mine." Smithy: "No thanks, she's too high maintenance for me!" Jonathan: "She's lovely! I'd signed off my old age to poker games with the boys and microwave meals for one. Since we've met it's all different." Smithy: "I had no idea things were so serious." Jonathan: "Sometimes it takes a wedding to put things in perspective!" Gina: "Are you saying I might have to hire this gear again?" Jonathan: "I'll get back to you...."
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Smithy teases Gina by interrupting her and Adam talking, turning her and pushing her forward and holding her arms up as the bouquet is thrown, only for Lance's boyfriend to be the one that catches it.
Tumblr media
Smithy tells Gina she might have been a little hasty in giving the wedding away. "Because after talking to Jonathan, I reckon you should have just caught that." Gina is stunned and immediately charges after him. "Oi!"
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Jim tells Jonathan that he couldn't be happier that June has gotten the wedding of her dreams and that he could never have afforded it. He's grateful to Gina for it but Jonathan is obviously lost. "She didn't tell you...? Gina won this competition for an all expenses paid wedding." Jim realises he's put his foot in it. "... I probably shouldn't have said anything." "It's alright, she's so modest she probably didn't want me to know." Jonathan covers.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Gina is sat outside when Jonathan later joins her, telling her he'd gone to their room for a few quiet moments as he had a headache after all the excitement. Jonathan lifts her hand and kisses her palm, gazing at her.
Gina: "Sure it's a headache and not too much champagne?" Jonathan: "Can't even hold your hand now?" Gina: "Course you can, you've just come over a bit soppy that's all." Jonathan: "I thought we'd turned a bit of a corner in our relationship recently?" Gina: "We've gotten closer." Jonathan: "I like that." Gina: "And so do I, but like you said the other day, we don't live in each others pockets. We've got our separate lives and that's why it's so nice when we do spend time together." Jonathan: "I know I said that, but-" Gina: "And I like that. Separate but together." Jonathan: "Why are you so bloody independent?" Gina: "Because that's who I am." Jonathan: "I want... I need to look after you, Gina." Gina: "And I need to look after me as well." Jonathan sort of looks resigned, nods, kisses her cheek and walks away from the table. Gina's expression suggests she doesn't quite mean 100 percent of how she phrased her words but the hint from Smithy spooked her a little.

Gina is about to return to their room when she spots Jonathan leaving holding his suit bag. He tells her he has an early start in the morning and needs to get back. "But we've booked the room?" Gina blinks. "It's only a freebie isn't it. Part of the prize?" Gina pauses. "... So you know. Come on, stay. We need to talk about this." Jonathan tells her his taxi is waiting and just hands her the key to the room. "I want to share more than a hotel room with you Gina. That's what scares you to death. Goodnight." he says quietly, leaving.

Ginathon Episodes: Episode 235
After patching things up, Jonathan gives Gina a lift to work. They're a little ... late... with Gina covering to say she had an appointment before work. "Dentist appointment my backside, the Inspector's had a lie in." smirks Andrea to Kerry. "June Ackland took parade because Gina lost a filling allegedly. The only filling she's had is from Doctor Fox over there!" Gina catches at least part of the jibe and bollocks Kerry for having her stab vest undone and both for lazily parking the IRV outside the front of the station rather than the yard as it should be - as they've been told not to do repeatedly.
Gina: "This is all your fault!" Jonathan: "It wasn't my idea!" Gina: "You didn't have to agree with me!" Jonathan: "So you skipped a couple of hours. Don't tell me it wasn't worth it!" Gina: "7 out of 10. Maybe 8?"
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Kerry pursues a car that fails to stop in a dangerous manner after Gina's words, telling Andrea that Gina is a cow and very nearly causes a crash by following too closely and not paying attention.
Phil visits Jonathan to get his opinion on charging someone. As they talk, Jonathan is wrapping a present for Gina.
Phil: "You've both got it really bad ain't ya!" Jonathan: "Yeah well, Gina's worth every bit of it." Phil: "So come on then, how did you melt the Ice Maiden? Was It a blow torch?" Jonathan: "Romance, Phil. Romance."
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Kerry continues stewing as they queue in the canteen. Phil pushes in to purchase a sandwich with Gina telling him off for not joining the queue. "I'm surprised you're eating here at all, would have thought it would be a candlelit dinner for two-" he starts before seeing Gina's expression. "Just gonna...!!!!" he points towards the exit, leaving quickly. "Ma'am can I have a word?" Kerry asks, moving towards Gina. "You can have two actually. The second is off." "Despite what you think of me, I'm a good police officer!" "I'm sure you are!" Kerry scoffs. "At least I'm here on time." "Ref's is finished. You should be on patrol, madam. Can't you follow a simple order? Are you that stupid?" Sensing the atmosphere, Andrea jumps in and leads Kerry back outside. "She wants me to follow orders? That's exactly what I'll do."
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Andrea and Kerry find a suspect pointing a gun at a child. If the gun didn't misfire, Andrea would have been killed. Before he can try again, Kerry slams him face first into the wall and arrests him.
Gina finds Jonathan leaving her office, Gina: "You've got your own office haven't you?" Jonathan: "Why am I the bad guy all of a sudden?" Gina: "Because you're stopping me from doing my job." Jonathan: "I wasn't the one late for work, you're the one who wanted to stay in bed!" Gina: "Shh, alright! I know!" Jonathan: "What's this really about? Are you afraid people will judge you because there's more to your life than the job?" Gina: "That's exactly what they are doing and I'm losing their respect." Jonathan: "You're being paranoid." Gina: "And you're being a pain in the backside!"
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Kerry speaks to Gina about what happened and Gina tells her off for letting Andrea confront the gunman alone as a probationer. Kerry points out she told her not to put herself in danger and that she was lucky the gun didn't go off because she'd now be dead. Gina admits Andrea was lucky but says she was also brave and thought of others. "She's a very promising officer." "And I'm not?" "I didn't say that." "You didn't have to." Kerry reminds Gina she told her to follow orders and that they're not supposed to approach if there's a firearm without backup. "I can't win can I... I'm damned if I do and damned if I don't."
Kerry is sent home to think about her future at Sun Hill and Rob stops her in the corridor, asking her to go unofficially undercover to get close to The Radfords. He tells her he knows she's a good copper but playing by the rules doesn't get the best results. She thinks about it and tells him no, she's going to go to a pub and get rat arsed. Rob just smiles and hands her some money, telling her it's killing two birds with one stone and asks her to go sit in The Radford's bar. With her drinks paid for, Kerry agrees.
Jonathan: "Inspector Gold!" Gina: "The shift's finished. Inspector Gold has clocked off." Jonathan: "What's this, some sort of split personality disorder?" Gina: "Think Jekyll and Hyde." Jonathan: "I've met Jekyll, I've just had my head bitten off outside her door. "
Jonathan tells Gina commitment isn't a crime and there's nothing wrong with letting people know there's more to her. "I'm in it for the long haul. The question is are you?" Gina just smiles. "That depends if you can score a high 9." she teases, turning and walking out with Jonathan playfully throwing a paper ball after her.
