I'm so mad every day because AI should have been used for good
It SHOULD be used for good
But in this world where making cash money is the main goal all the good that can be done is swept aside in a desperate effort to make things as cheap and easy as possible

Dude I feel like I'm taking crazy pills regarding Sphene because the focus is on how good and friendly and sad she is when dude. She has done a colonialism and it's really insidious to boot she makes me so uncomfortable
Heritage Found makes me so uncomfortable. Solution 9 makes me so uncomfortable. Like--they're there but they help the native population and consider them their own! Also--Alexandria is perfect and all their weird food is perfect and Sphene is a perfect person who goes and visits sick children
The country has moved itself to Tural (and the planet in general) to take a natural resource for itself
But Sphene is nice. And also sad. She is a very cute and small white girl who is suffering more than anyone else, please understand
Solution 9 is paradise. the only weird thing about it is the regulators everyone is provided for it's high tech and all their food is perfect the only thing actually bad about it is the mean lizard man :( ruined Sphene's lovely kingdom
Everything fucked up about the situation is handwaved by "but Sphene is taking care of everyone and she is so loving though... look she made farms for the people who wanted to live outside and regulators aren't mandatory :) she told Lamaty'i that everyone becoming citizens of Alexandria would keep them safe--but that is because she is very caring and good and wants to be Wuk Lamat's bestie. There is absolutely nothing charged about this scenario at all because IT'S NOT COLONIALISM Sphene is just sad and friendly. She was suffering for so long. She is just loving and good. She helps everyone"
"But you're okay with guys that have done worse--" yeah but they had their shit pointed out in canon! All the time even! People acknowledge that they are fucked up!!!! They do not put this heinous shit on sphene ever they just quickly pass through things that would be really uncomfortable really quickly as if to say "actually! do not pay attention to The Situation. Did you know that sphene is good. just look at the good thing she's doing. also she is sad. she wants to be wuk lamat's friend isn't she just so precious"

Seriously though: Livejournal communities were once absolutely vital to fandom. Fandom communities could range from the most general to the most specific of things--you'd have a bigger community focused on news and more general fandom stuff, a CAPSLOCK COMMUNITY focused entirely on shitposting, a fic community, a fanart community, a community where people shared their icons, communities focused on specific ships, communities for adult fanfiction and fanart, communities focused on a specific sort of fanfic...
Best of all, communities could be locked--as well as posts, meaning that very niche/objectional things weren't seen by the greater community. Only people part of that community could see them. A lot of adult-oriented communities were locked and required approval to join.
This partitioning of fandom held up that illusion of harmony. You had the community in general where you interacted with the fandom at large, and everything else was separate. This sounds like it might have been cumbersome, but it really wasn't.

Back in the day when I was actively into racing (prior to being very, very traumatized by what happened to Jules) I was very, very loud about who my favorite driver was (he's... not even a formula one driver????)

THIS ALONE IS MORE PHOTOS OF HIM THAN WIKIPEDIA HAS AND IN A COMPARATIVELY HIGH RESOLUTION BECAUSE I HAVE THE VERY BIG AND VERY FANCY BOOK ABOUT HIM

OK so I had ordered a pair of headphones used on the bay of E (as you do with hi-fi stuff when you're on a budget) that were like half the price of them new from Japan and like. Since the shop looked at the headphones again they realized they were the wrong model they were like 'we can give you this pair at a discount or we can give you the ones you wanted' and I was like 'sure I want the one I wanted thx they have a feature I need (medically) (I am not kidding about this)' and they were like 'k lol we will get you a pair'
They sent me a brand new pair of those headphones with an apology card
These are legendary levels of customer service. I hardly know how to react???? These are $500 cans. Amazon has a pair in an unpopular colorway for like $300 but the color I wanted and now have is $500. It's always $500
How could this happen even

I see things that are like "Y/N: I can't believe you're telling me this..." I mean good lord if you're going to be making "imagines" or prompts or whatever just use "you". I'm not even into this stuff buy passively seeing it sometimes I just... sometimes wonder if people know "you" serves the same function and is much more immersive than "Y/N"

Screw it. I also want to be a furry, they've always looked like they're having so much fun and it's not like I didn't eat craft singles out of the refrigerator pretending I was a starving Don Bluth mouse when I was like ten
I want a cool animal OC to represent myself that idea is rad as hell

Ah! Since Pearl Harbor Day is just on the horizon, I will take this chance to say, again, that local people's reaction to this event is very much not in line with the rest of the US. It is not some immense tragedy that affected the people here forever with how immensely sad it was. A tragedy, sure, but not a personal one. Everyone I know who was alive then are like "oh yeah, that was wild". My grandma laughs about it because she was skating outside when it happened and was staring at the planes because she thought it was like a movie.
It was less the attack that changed anything and more the united states' reaction to it in Hawaii. (Things got very weird and very awful. Also, spam.)
The attack was largely focused on military assets, and the bulk of the casualties were military because of this. This is the source of the huge amount of weird patriotic zeal. It's not because of the people of Hawaii, it's because of the military's wounded pride and what this symbolized for America.

There's a branch of my family that's kanaka maoli that speak Hawaiian in the house, and the rest of us who came up from plantation workers--we are old kama'aina. Kama'aina are kama'aina because they've been here so long that their culture is the culture of the land. I honestly have no idea how to explain this--it's not just cultural exchange, it's far deeper than that.
My family's vital records stretch back from the kingdom of Hawaii, to the territory of Hawaii, to the state of Hawaii. Everyone gets pissed off about the overthrow of the kingdom and annexation of Hawaii. My grandma in particular seethes about it and will get very loud about it within earshot of tourists. She might not have been here for the overthrow but she was here for the annexation, and she will be angry forever.
Hawaii has a very strange legacy when it comes to colonization. You have the big five wanting to make their cash off of plants, then you have the immigrants that were brought here to harvest them and kept in garbage conditions, their names replaced with numbers on the fields where they were whipped by the lunas whenever they were "lazy". These people became the kama'aina. They didn't have the money to leave and were essentially assimilated in a way.

My mom is always uninformed about everything so when it came to Kissinger she was like "it doesn't matter what he did the Lord will give him eternal life in heaven ):" and inside I was like
Dude. With the framework we're working with here that's definitely not the place he's going to be spending eternity

There's this very odd inclination for people to talk about Venat's wandering as if it was just cool and awesome. She wasn't doing so just because she was having cool adventures, she was doing so because people couldn't help themselves. She was like the WoL in that way--she went wherever she was needed, and indeed wanted to return to the star like anyone else. It's just that her life's purpose was bigger than anyone else's--to make sure mankind could stand on its own. Pre-sundering they couldn't, not because they were stupid but because they were naive. The world was essentially a ton of toddlers who could debate things forever and make complex concepts... but had a hard time confronting unexpected situations, especially bad ones. They were very emotionally immature.
They could confront death, but only on their terms. It was rare for them to die naturally given that their natural lifespan was "functionally immortal", and they didn't have the emotional chops to come to terms with deaths that were sudden and "didn't make sense". This was why the final days were so bad: they couldn't fathom what was happening. Venat trying to reason with the ancients before the sundering shows this--she asks them to live with the pain of what's happening, but they're too weak. They have no idea why she would say such a thing. They basically refuse to go to kindergarten and scream that they want to go home to have apple juice and cookies while watching Barney the Dinosaur.
This is why she says "at last, my work is complete" once you defeat her. She did it. Mankind can at last stand on this own. Again... there's this very odd inclination to view this as a tragedy in spite of her finally being able to rest. "It's not fair, she should get to wander the world more." She didn't want to. She wanted to pass it into the hands of those who inherited it, and she did. She was happy. Now, she becomes a part of the world she so loved.

Every single recipe on this page is a war crime. Not a single one of these recipes is Hawaiian, with most of them featuring pineapple--which Hawaiian cuisine does not. (Pineapple is not a Hawaiian fruit, it's South American and was imported here by Dole. (The history of this is horrific, by the by.))
The usage of the word "luau" here is probably for ornamentation, as "luau" is a side dish made using taro leaves and coconut milk. (Squid luau is most common, but chicken luau is up there.) It isn't something you can put on a sandwich. I mean, you could, but it'd be like making a sandwich with a thin stew.
As for the poke bowl--that is as far from poke as you can possibly get. It has nothing in common with poke whatsoever--poke doesn't involve cooked poultry, carrots, pineapple, or cashews. It's savory raw or smoked fish, very rarely you'll find something like pipikaula poke. That "poke bowl" is just some generic "protein power bowl" that happens to have pineapples in it.
