I like the atmosphere of the holidays, the dishes, gifts and meeting some of my relatives. The commercialization of Christmas destroys this unique atmosphere, in my opinion. And I don't like rush and chaos.

To my surprise, the Advendskalender I bought this year has quotes on the inside, so apart from a chocolate I’ll have a German advent challenge.

First I’ll try to translate without dictionaries or online translators (I still have moments where I do know all the words and the sentence still doesn’t make any sense) and then I’ll double check it.

Today’s quote:

„Der beste Weg, sich selbst eine Freude zu machen, ist zu versuchen, einem anderen eine Freude zu bereiten“ – Mark Twain

Translation:

“The best way to cheer yourself up is to cheer somebody else up” – Mark Twain

I mixed up “Freude” and “Freunde” and I didn’t remember what “bereiten” meant, so the whole thing didn’t make much sense.

And I learned the expression „eine Freude machen“ :)

Day 5 of @thewritersblock707 ’s Christmas Challenge: What is one productive thing that you’d like/have done this month?

Well, I organised meeting up with my younger brother and my other side of the family, who I’m notoriously bad at keeping in contact with AND I managed to sort out enough money to get them presents that I’m proud of!

Today, I did some recall for geography and computing! It turns out that I learn ridiculously well by hearing things over and over and writing them down too!! I still have some physics homework for tomorrow but otherwise I’ve done my work for today!!

I could have applied to Oxford 🤠 And I would probably make different decisions regarding my friendships. I should be more considerate, but I should also set stronger boundaries. I don't know, a lot of things could have been done differently, but I'm not sure effects would have been better.

Stay alive and hopeful. Sleep more, it helps. Study a little bit less. No, you’re not in love, you just want to be friends with them. Don’t consider yourself lesser than people you barely know. You barely know them. Think about your university options earlier.

DAY 7.  Looking back to 2022, how far have you come? (no matter how big or small your steps have been or if you've had to pause along the way)

I’ve come a long way in terms of mental health, attitude towards life, maturity, and knowledge. I’ve learned a lot and have achieved success in competitions that were important to me. I’ve met many wonderful people and I appreciate the time we’ve spent together even if we haven’t become close friends. I’m grateful for the opportunities I’ve been given. Although I’ve experienced some failures, I’ve been able to move forward. It's been a challenging journey, but I remain determined. Time keeps moving forward, I won't give up. I have a direction in mind.
