ADVENT CALENDAR DAY 6
Stained-glass roundel of the Annunciation to the Shepherds made in 13th-century France. Glencairn Museum, Bryn Athyn, PA, 03.SG.240.
This 13th-century stained-glass roundel illustrates the biblical story of the Annunciation to the Shepherds (Luke 2:8–14). Here an angel with green wings and a purple cloak descends from a heavenly cloud, announcing to the shepherds that they will “find a babe wrapped in swaddling cloths and lying in a manger.”
According to Professor Michael W. Cothren, “Medieval artists commonly used a wavy, arching band of clouds (frequently placed across the corner of a rectangular composition) to show a separation between the earthly realm below and the heavenly realm above. For example, when a disembodied hand of God emerges from heaven to command or bless a situation taking place on earth, it is often overlapped by an arching band of ‘clouds of heaven.’ Sometimes the face of God appears within the cloud band. Sometimes angels swoop down toward earth underneath or emerging from the clouds.” (“The ‘Clouds of Heaven’ Motif in Art Created for Glencairn,” Glencairn Museum News No. 1, 2021).
Every day, from December 1 through December 25, a new work of Nativity art from the Glencairn Museum collection will appear on the home page of our Advent calendar (Follow the Star: A 2021 Advent Calendar). To receive these in your newsfeed, follow our social media (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Tumblr).

Gospel of Luke: Day 24/Chapter 24 THE SON OF MAN TRIUMPHS! “Why are you looking for the living among the dead?” asked the men. “He is not here, but he has risen!” ‭‭Luke‬ ‭24:5-6‬ ‭CSB‬‬ “He said to them, “How foolish you are, and how slow to believe all that the prophets have spoken! Wasn’t it necessary for the Messiah to suffer these things and enter into his glory?”” ‭‭Luke‬ ‭24:25-26‬ ‭CSB‬‬ “And while he was blessing them, he left them and was carried up into heaven.” ‭‭Luke‬ ‭24:51‬ ‭CSB‬‬ ********* On the Eve of my Savior’s birth, I complete the Gospel of Luke and at one point it felt paradoxical - ending on his crucifixion while awaiting his birth. But this last chapter leaves my heart full of hope and joy reminding me Jesus Christ is the true gift of Christmas. ********* “As Christians, we are not judges or prosecuting attorneys sent to condemn the world. We are witnesses who point to Jesus Christ and tell lost sinners how to be saved. Witnessing is not something that we do for the Lord; it is something that He does through us, if we are filled with the Holy Spirit. We go forth in the authority of His name, in the power of His spirit, heralding His gospel of His grace.” -The Wiersbe Bible Commentary ✞ //photo sourced from Pinterest//#advent2021 #lukegospel #jesus #messiah #savior #holyspirit #God #resurrection #ascension #christmaseve https://www.instagram.com/p/CX4wB-Qrh3w/?utm_medium=tumblr

So this lovely combo is going to become a #CatventSweater (pattern by @ancaitinbeag) I’m currently raiding my scrap bag for another partial skein of white or white-ish fingering to hold with the plain white skein for the cat colourwork. The two skeins of Leave Room For The Pav (by @downunderdyer) will be the sleeves, collar and hem. Advent calendar is the #AllTheFeelsAdvent by @fortuneyarnco - I’ve slightly reorganized a couple of the skeins to fade better through the body of the jumper. I’m probably not going to cast this on for a little while, have too many other WIPS on the needles atm that I need to finish before I can let myself start more things! #Advent2021 #AdventKnitting #AdventCalendar2021 #SockYarn #AussieKnitter #AussieKnitters #AussieYarnDyer #AussieYarnDyers https://www.instagram.com/thoughtsofmymadlife/p/CX7hmH8JGa_/?utm_medium=tumblr

Tomorrow is Christmas Eve. But today, December 23rd, has always been extremely special for me. The full impact of Advent seems to hit me hardest on this day - covering me like one of those weighted blankets - wrapping me in its expectant splendor. I find myself wriggling into the exquisite comfort of Advent and letting all the emotions seep deeply into my soul. I can literally almost physically pull that wrap closer around me when I study His word. The full impact of joy and hope brings me peace. And I look forward to rereading the gospels that detail his birth - it never gets stale or old for me! Open your Bible today and read the story that sets us apart, gives us hope, shows us His love. #livingafaithfilledlife #drinkthedamncoffee #advent2021 https://www.instagram.com/agratefulsouldotcom/p/CX1C-jyFiF7/?utm_medium=tumblr

ADVENT CALENDAR DAY 8
Limestone relief of the Adoration of the Wise Men, 13th-century France. (Detail photo on top.) Glencairn Museum, Bryn Athyn, PA, 09.SP.119.
This limestone relief with the Adoration of the Wise Men was made in 13th-century France. It illustrates the biblical story describing these travelers, who came “from the East,” saying, “Where is He who has been born King of the Jews? For we have seen His star in the East and have come to worship Him” (Gospel of Matthew 2:1–2).
During the construction of Glencairn, Raymond Pitcairn set this relief into the north wall of the inglenook in the Great Hall, where it remains today. All three of the Wise Men are represented as kings wearing crowns, in keeping with medieval tradition. The foremost king, whose arm is broken off, is shown kneeling to present a gift—either gold, frankincense, or myrrh (Matthew 2:11).

Gospel of Luke: Day 20/Chapter 20 ISSUES AND ANSWERS “Moses even indicated in the passage about the burning bush that the dead are raised, where he calls the Lord the God of Abraham and the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob. He is not the God of the dead but of the living, because all are living to him.”” ‭‭Luke‬ ‭20:37-38‬ ‭CSB‬‬ “Jesus had already told the Twelve to expect conflict and suffering when they arrived in the Holy City. ‘The Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be slain, and be raised the third day’ (Luke 9:22). Jesus knew fully what was coming, and He was not afraid. In this chapter, you meet the three groups of religious leaders (Luke 20:1) and witness their conflict with Jesus. They challenged Him because He had cleansed the temple and called them ‘thieves.’ They tried to catch Him in His words so they could trump up some charge against Him and have Him arrested as an enemy of the state. But there was more to this series of questions than mere guile. The word translated ‘rejected’ in Luke 9:22 (and also Luke 201:17) means ‘to reject after investigation.’ It was required that the Jews carefully examine the Passover lambs from the tenth day to the fourteenth day to make sure they had no blemishes (Ex. 12:1-6). Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God (John 1:29), was watched and tested by His enemies during that final week, and yet in spite of what they saw and learned, they rejected Him. However, Jesus was also examining them! For as a question Him, He questioned them, and their responses revealed the ignorance, hatred, and unbelief of their hearts. Our Lord’s questions centered on four different men.” 1. A question about John the Baptist (Luke 20:1-19) 2. A question about Caesar (Luke 20:20-26) 3. A question about Moses (Luke 20:27-40) 4. A question about David (Luke 20:41-44) -The Wiersbe Bible Commentary ✞ //photo sourced from Pinterest//#advent2021 #lukegospel #jesus #messiah #savior #holyspirit #God https://www.instagram.com/p/CXwjASBvIgX/?utm_medium=tumblr

Still, Advent
Christmas is just days away; the season of expectant waiting is coming to an end for this year. The culmination of Advent, the Incarnation of God into human form, bursts forth in songs of wonder, adoration, and joy. The first coming of Jesus we celebrate with gifts, food, and family visits that include a trip to a church service. And this is good. It is a wondrous thing to know the One who

This year I got a crystal advent calendar from The Collective Creator on Facebook. I asked for it well before Thanksgiving so she would have time to put it together. She sold out rather quickly this year. It was a bit more expensive thany 2021 calendar but I am getting so much more and better quality of crystals and the box is reusable. 💜 The box is thin wood, painted nicely, and the boxes are cardboard. Inside when you open it it is a black plastic bag hiding your crystal. When you open it, you get the crystal and a slip of paper telling you what it is and it's metaphysical properties. The Collective Creator did Good. ••• #adventcalendar #advent2021 #smallbusiness #womanownedbusiness #cryatal (at Cleveland, Ohio) https://www.instagram.com/p/CmCsbxjJrKMgCkGK7hkzfMhFBtQ6UtjWoWHPoM0/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
