Mark your calendars for AELDWS 2024!

Signups will open on Friday, June 21 at 7AM EDT (click the hyperlink for your timezone!). There will be 10 slots available!

Signups will close once all slots are filled, or by Thursday, June 27 at 7PM EDT at the latest.

AELDWS will run for six weeks from June 28 to August 9. The weekly schedule is below:

AELDWS is a weekly, elimination drabble contest. Each Friday, a prompt will be posted which consists of a prompt, genre, and word limit. Author drabbles are compiled, with author names removed, and the fandom is invited to vote for their favorite and least favorite drabbles. The author who comes in last place each week is eliminated until there are only three authors remaining in the final week. Note: If all ten slots are filled, the first two weeks will be double elimination weeks.

WICKED is back!

Calling all Inception smut and/or drabble writers! You may have seen AELDWS or IGRPDC, but how about we add a little spice?

WICKED is a non-elimination drabble contest focused on more explicit content. It will be open to all characters/pairings and will run for four weeks through November.

Sign-ups will open at 12PM ET tomorrow, Friday, October 25. (Click here for your time zone!)

Inceptiversary is coming to a close but...

...there are SO MANY other events that happen year-round!

Before we get to that, though, we want to take the time to thank everyone for all of their hard work, support, and engagement this year. Everyone please be sure to send love to the mods of @inception30daychallenge, @aeldws, @inceptionauction, @inception-bigbang, @inceptionbingo, @inceptionkitties, @inceptionpositivity, Inception Quiz, and @inceptionwatchparty (and all of the watch party hosts)!

Last but most certainly not least, we want to extend the warmest of warm welcomes to everyone who has joined the fandom this Inceptiversary - thank you for your excitement and enthusiasm, and we hope you stick around for a long, long time!

It will soon be July and you know what that means! IT’S INCEPTIVERSARY TIME!!!!!!

In case you don’t know (and that’s fine, we love new blood in this fandom), Inceptiversary is the yearly celebration of the release of the film that keeps us darlings dreaming bigger: Inception. It takes place over five weeks (July 1st to August 5th) and includes fandom focused events, challenges, and content. It’s when we Inceptionites come together to strengthen the community, show appreciation, and welcome in a new generation of dreamers!

ALL SHIPS ARE WELCOME in the Inceptiversary festivities and we encourage you to explore a ship you haven’t before. You never know what you might find!

“But wait, teacup,” you say. “How am I to keep track of all these awesome events? How will I know what’s happening and what’s to come?”

I’m glad you asked, dear dreamer, because we have the super-organized and equally awesome @freighttraininmybrain over at the Inception Social Calendar and the miraculous trio of @flosculatory, @deinvatiwrites, and @dbshawnblog on the @Inceptiversaryblog keeping us from succumbing to Inception FOMO! So hold onto your grip on reality because the unbelievable details of this year’s Inceptiversary are laid out below!

1) Theme Weeks: 

Inceptiversary is structured over five glorious weeks, each of which caters to a theme in fandom. Fans are encouraged to post and reblog all manner of content related to each week’s theme. Memes, fics, fanvids, artwork, conspiracy theories; all will find a home! And you may just discover something you didn’t know you needed in your life.

This year’s Theme Weeks are:

Week 1, July 1 - 7 No Stone Unturned - Inception Gen Week 

This is a special Theme Week this year as we’ve paired it with a prompt challenge of the same name that will be run by @bayta-darell! The Inception fandom has a ton of love to go around, but what about the non-romantic kind of love? This week, we're focusing on all of the great platonic and familial relationships with a series of daily prompts. These are just meant as a starting point to get you inspired and by all means, disregard these as much as you want! All Inception content that isn't based on romantic or sexual relationships is welcome, and fanwork recommendations are certainly encouraged as well. Have fun, and happy Inceptiversary!

Week 4, July 22 -28 In Between The Lines: 

We all have them. Those headcanons about what went on behind the scenes of Inception. What happened to Tadashi? Is Ariadne hiding gills under all those scarves? Just what did the team do with all that time left over in the dream? And for Nolan’s sake, did the damn top fall over or not?

Week 5, July 29 - August 5 Crack/Fluff: 

It’s been a long month so kick back and relax with a large dose of everyone’s favourite guilty pleasure: Crackfic! We all need those fics that are purely for entertaining silly and happy ideas. They’re a soft place to land and a great opportunity to get wacky ideas out of your head! Indulge and enjoy the ride!

2. Watch Parties (@corinnetags, @noitsnacktime, @freighttraininmybrain ):    

Watch parties are an excellent way to meet other people in fandom and tend to create a ton of inspiration for future wips! All movies are connected to the cast of Inception in one way or another and will be held on either Slack or Discord or both depending on host availability/preference.  The schedule for all viewings can be found on the Inceptiversary Social Calendar.

3. Watch Party Bingo: (@withinmeloveresides1, @zuulee63)

On July 1st, 16th, and 31st, Inception Bingo during the Official (not really) Inception Watch Parties! You can check out the viewing times on the Inception Social Calendar. More info to come!

4. Inception 30 Day Challenge (@flosculatory): 

The 30 Day Challenge is such an interesting and entertaining look into the minds of your fellow Inceptionites! Learn how others feel about your favourite Inception moments and enjoy a look back at why we’re all still here, nine years after its release.

5. Trope/Kink Bingo (@teacuphuman09, @dreamhubbies):

One of the most popular aspects of Inceptiversary is the Trope/Kink Bingo, and goodness, does it ever deliver! Scoot on over to @inceptiversarybingo  for info on how to get your hands on your very own bingo card, then indulge your (not so) secret desire to write all the tropes and/or kinks your little fandom heart desires!

6) AELDWS: (@teacuphuman09):

I’d be lying if I said I didn’t have a stake in this year’s Arthur/Eames Last Drabble Writer Standing event. AELDWS was missed last year, but in 2019 it’s returning to its roots and eliminating one writer every week until a champion is crowned! (I’m coming for you, @deinvatiwrites)

Pairing: Shiro/Slav Words: 1080  Rating: General  Prompt: Distance @shlavweek

The Black Lion was empty. Everyone had their own reactions to this; Keith locked himself in the training room and made his refusal to become Black Paladin clear. Hunk, Pidge, and Coran made several scans—and new technological advancements—to try and find him. Lance stepped up as support for nearly everyone, and Allura stepped up as the leader.

Slav spent time away from the rest of the humanoids. No one was really sure what he was up to. “You could help us, you know!” Pidge growled at him one night, exhausted and frustrated. “Shiro saved your life, the least you could try to do is find him!” Slav narrowed his eyes. “There is a 0% chance that in this or any other reality, I would leave Shiro to die. That is not up for debate, Green Paladin.”

Slav left. He did not return to the rest of the paladins, at least, not until they received word that they’d found Shiro. He waited in the loading bay, then in the medical bay. He waited outside this new Shiro’s door, exchanging a look with Keith as he entered and exited. And he waited in the Black Lion’s bay until he had definite confirmation that this thing was not Shiro.

Then he returned to his room, he’d lost too much time already. There was an enormous star map in his room, with percentages and realities scribbled everywhere, for every star. He wasn’t going to stop until he had a 100% chance for this reality. He was going to get Shiro back, no matter what the Galra tried to do. He wouldn’t let them stop him, not this time.

The humanoids were not as quick to realize that the Thing was not Shiro. This meant that Slav had to both reroute security camera feeds to his room, as well as send out some of those scans previously done by the smart ones while they were asleep.

“What are you doing?” A familiar—but not—voice asked cheerfully one night as Slav sent out another scan. “Scanning for the Black Paladin.” Slav answered. He was not interested in lying to the Thing. “Keith’s the Black Paladin.” The Thing replied, still far too cheerful. Slav briefly considered opening an airlock and just letting it out. Though, he’d heard it could survive without oxygen or nutrition. It’d probably attach itself to the ship. Better not.

“The angry red one is not the Black Paladin. I am looking for Shiro.” Slav made another scan. Nothing. He readjusted the coordinates. “Slav… I’m Shiro.” Slav looked away from his work to give the Thing a derogatory look. “You are not. In another reality, yes, but not this one. That reality is a moot point anyway—I checked, the lanky blue one doesn’t have gills.” The Thing chuckled. “That’s what I love about you, Slav. You’re always good for a laugh.”

Slav’s ears fluttered, a sure sign that he was upset. Once again, he pondered just… letting the Thing go. Be free, in space. Let it find some planet to terrorize. The Thing smiled like it had said something clever. Slav mentally reminded himself that violence was not the answer, and Shiro would be very disappointed in him if he killed the Thing without giving him a traditional Bytor trial.

Suddenly, the scanner pinged. Slav met the Thing’s eyes. “Slav, the Galra took my armor and left it there.” The Thing began. “Don’t wake everyone up just for that.” Slav paused as if in thought. “You would think you would want your armor back. Are you afraid that Shiro will come with it?” The Thing lunged for Slav, but Slav was quicker. He set off an alarm, scuttled into the vents, and made his way to the bridge. He diverted in the ship’s course sharply to that planet, honing in on the signal. He was going to close the distance.

“Slav? What is the meaning of this?” The Princess was the first one on the bridge. “I have found Shiro’s armor. And Shiro too, probably.” Slav said. The Thing ran in. “Princess, whatever he’s said is a lie!” Allura rubbed her eyes. “Slav, Shiro’s right here.”

“…there is a 96% chance that he’s a clone, and a 57% chance that he’s violent. I suggest you dump him on a fire planet.” Slav said scornfully. “Where’s the fire?” Pidge stumbled in next. “Slav believes that I’m a clone.” The Thing smiled far too wide. “Isn’t that ridiculous?” “I’ve also located the Black Paladin armor.” Slav said from the console.

Pidge yawned. “So, we’re finally acknowledging that it’s not the real Shiro? Sweet.” “Katie!” The Thing said, aghast. “Look, you eat peas willingly—happily, even—after spending months on end eating them around my dad. And then eating the remainders of your rations meant for the return voyage because the Galra didn’t know what would kill you and wanted a good fight out of you.” Pidge shrugged. “Real Shiro told me.”

Slav paid no attention as the other humanoids poured in and attacked the Thing. Finally, it could be dealt with. The ship’s energy levels revealed that there was enough of the Princess’ energy stored for him to make a small teledav jump. Excellent, as the princess had her arms around the Thing’s neck in a chokehold.

On Aeldw-193, the rebel forces looked up as the sky opened. Some screamed, some cried. Some raised the alarm, fearing that it would be the Galra. One man smiled. He had traveled across the entire damn planet just to try to send out a radio signal to reach them. But they’d closed the distance themselves. Somehow, he knew they would.

“Katie’s up there?” Someone asked next to him as the ship came through the portal. Takashi Shirogane nodded. “She’s up there. Others too.” “…I still hate you for bringing Katie into this.”

“Believe me, I regret bringing them all into this.” Shiro replied, turning to look at his old commanding officer. “But I’m glad they’re by my side. I can’t do this without them.” Samuel Holt sighed. “Well, let’s go meet them—and this Slav person you dragged me through the jungle to try to talk to.” Shiro flushed. “It’s not…” “Takashi, trust me. I have been married for a quarter of a century. I know what love is.” Samuel clapped a hand on Shiro’s shoulder. “And I know if that was Colleen, you’d be pushing me to the radio station. Come on, let’s go.”

This year, the Arthur/Eames Last Drabble Writer Standing challenge will run for seven weeks, starting on July 3rd and ending on August 20th, with a total of 15 participants. Every week will include a Double Elimination until a winner is crowned. If you’re thinking of signing up, please read over the Rules and Guidelines first.

Sign-up will be split into TWO time slots:

#1 - June 20th, 2020 at 8 am UTC (Time Zone converter here)

#2 - June 21st, 2020 at 2 am UTC (Time Zone converter here)

Sign-ups are first come, first serve. The link to the sign-up form will be posted on June 19th, but the form will not be accessible until the times posted above. 

Seven spaces will be open for the first time slot, and eight for the second. Anyone can sign up in either time slot, but we do ask that people located in the Western Hemisphere wait for the second time slot to sign-up. 

If there is still space in the first section when the second time slot opens, they will be added to the second section.

Sign ups for the elimination round of AELDWS are now open!

This is a five week round that will run from July 9 - August 11, and will host a maximum of seven participants (the first week will involve a double elimination). Please consider your schedule carefully before signing up, as there will be no passes. If you fail to submit a drabble for any given week, you will be eliminated from the round.

Before signing up, please ensure that you have read the rules and guidelines of AELDWS.

If you are signing up via proxy and your proxy is also signing up, there must be two separate entries (one for you and one for your proxy).
