For the Character Asks: 1, 7, 9, 14, and 18 for a certain king we all know and love

WOOO. I just watched Labyrinth last night so my thoughts are rampant on this. XD (Apologizing in advance, though, because these won’t be short answers. >.<)
1 - Favourite thing(s) about this character?
Probably that we get enough hints about Jareth to suspect his backstory, but it’s kept vague enough that we can run with ideas about who he is, his origins, and what his intentions are. (While I have my own headcanons and ideas, I always think it’s really fun to hear other takes - it can also mean you go back to the film/novelization, and catch more than you did before.) Honestly, I think it’s one reason why I’ve been so engaged with this character for such a huge part of my life. I love that there’s a little bit of ambiguity and mystery surrounding him.
7 - What do you like most about this character?
I have a laundry list of things I like about him. XD A big thing is his overall aesthetic - I’ve always liked the mix of 80s glam rock and fantasy, and I think it fits well with Jareth’s character. I love how he’s just extra, too - like he has more outfit changes than any other character in Labyrinth and always has to make an entrance. (I rewatched Labyrinth last night, and even thinking about when he first introduces himself to Sarah - he really seemed to be enjoying that moment.) I also just like that he’s an antagonist, but a pretty layered one? I think Jim Henson did a good job of layering a lot with Jareth in such a short time frame. There are a lot of facets about Jareth that get hinted to in the film, and I always really like David Bowie’s take on him: “at best, a romantic, but at worst he’s a spoilt child, vain and temperamental.” (<- I think that just really gets a lot of why I like him - I love characters with range.) I also love his voice and speech patterns. ;__; It’s like velvet but I have to give David Bowie credit for that. XD
9 - What’s your favourite headcanon(s) for this character?
This is another laundry list. XD So I’m going to try to be brief and link any past posts I’ve made about these (also these are just my own personal headcanons): 1.) Jareth is trapped in his role as Goblin King, and relishes being in his owl form because it’s the only time he has the illusion of true freedom. 2.) That while he comes across as domineering and cruel, with questionable actions, he is at heart a very romantic person. (I think there is a part of Jareth that definitely feels isolated, and he has probably been alone for some time and never truly felt accepted.) 3.) I tend to lean toward Jareth being of a fae background, while also being an illegitimate/unwanted child. Normally, I see people either headcanon Jareth as a fae or unsaved human child (like in Labyrinth: Coronation), but I think he’s both. >.> (I have more headcanons on this possibility and other Jareth headcanons here.) 4.) Going off number 3, before he was put into the role of Goblin King, he was a totally rebel. Probably was a source of hot gossip among fae. XD (Even if he isn’t of a fae background, Jareth gives me that bad boy energy - so if he’s a human, goblin, whatever, I just feel like mischief was his middle name in his younger years.) 5.) He’s really afraid of old age and dying, and is very focused on appearance. 6.) Also another one I have that is just permanently living in the back of my mind is that he’s bisexual/pansexual - I don’t really think gender is even a question for him. He wants who he wants. XD
14 - What outfit would you really like to see this character wear? Or what’s your favourite outfit of theirs?
The last outfit Jareth wears when confronting Sarah is easily my favorite out of anything he ever wears (I definitely have others that come close adkljasdlkjas feel free to hit me up if you want to talk attire >.>). Granted, Jareth looks amazing in all of his outfits, but I think there’s something really special about that final outfit with the feather cloak (owl feathers??). Maybe because while it’s not necessarily white, it’s the closest we get to something “colorless”, rather than the dark, 80s rock/glam aesthetic he typically has going on. I really wish we had seen this outfit more. (This is more going into headcanon territory, but there’s just...I don’t know. A very different look to Jareth in that final confrontation overall? Even though there’s something still very glamorous about that attire, it felt the most vulnerable out of everything he wears in the film.) Honorable mention to the look he has when he gives Hoggle the peach to give Sarah. That look is another good one. X3
18 - What’s something you associate this character with? E.g. a certain colour, object or scenery?
Okay, finally I can give a short answer, but definitely barn owls! Music, crystals, and masquerades I associate with him as well, but barn owls just feel like the thing I associate him with most.
Character Asks.
