there's some overlap in songs on purpose but i still tried to put the playlist in chronological order. it basically splits the story into thirds: before ep9, ep9 through prison, & post-prison, and switches pov between ai di and chen yi fairly often.

Well my favorite character is Doc!!! Specifically him and O'Malley together (O'Malley used to be an AI in his head but later on split into a real alter) I love love their dynamic soooo much. Sensitive kindhearted vegan nerd and a literal cartoon villain. They were so fun as the original "antagonists" of the series. It's a shame they always disappear for such long periods of time, but that's kind of a running joke with Doc in that he'll go missing for ages and no one notices.

It's really a shame that they TRIED to give Doc more depth in season 16 but like everything else in that season it was half assed and kind of bad. They just kinda dropped the fact that his brother died when he was young and then never brought it up again. God I hate 16-18 so much. I'm not gonna put this in the main tag so I won't get into a fight about it but I am GLAD 15-18 are getting retconned they suck. Not 15 though I'm not mad at it, it brought us Temple and Jax 💚 and the fucked up corpse room.

Anyways, I don't think Doc really needs a backstory, he could definitely use an arc of his own though (not whatever that character writing nightmare was in 16-17) he and O'Malley started working a lot better together near the end of 13 and I hope we get to see more of that. I want them to be on more even terms, even if by their own character they could never morally get along. Plus yknow, I'm obsessed with their banter.

Even if D&O are my favourite characters I don't normally talk/post about them since my second favorite character, Sarge, is like.. Way easier to make jokes about. I love him dearly too, but my babygirls come first. I am planning on drawing Doc soon though!! The purple boy will come...

hmmm. this part honestly felt like... really high stakes yet not at the same time? like sure we were running around being chased, that was high energy; but at the same time, it kind of felt like the consequences like last chapters were.. gone, if yknow what i mean? we were supposed to be super scared of midori but in the end we got away from the tag game scot free, and he literally didnt do anything. he just messed around for the sake of it. he didnt even directly kill anyone outside of the banquet, and thats.. something, especially after all the hype he got. and then he just DIED, that quick.

other than that i did enjoy the plot and have no idea where this is going, since so many people are.. just gone now. if theres a main game the endings will be interesting to see. logic route is just exactly how the previous games have gone, including the memorandum. while emotion route has more emotional gain since sara is choosing humanity over survival, making it go differently than most ai logs i think. anyway, a lot of lore and a lot of lost lives but also a lot of fun :))

i think what really contributes to the stray cat metaphor with ai di is the fact that we never get to see his room wherever he lives. like i assumed he lives in the same place chen yi does (assumed, because we never see his room there), but over there all the action always happens in chen yi's room, or in the kitchen, or at that garage entrance, basically anywhere but in what could be ai di's room. if some action is happening on so called ai di's territory, it means it's happening in his bar. and okay, maybe he lives there, how can anyone figure it out, his room is never shown. when he cosplays as a schoolkid and disappears for a couple of days not answering chen yi's calls, where is he living? who knows! when he gets out of jail and doesn't go back to their place, where does he go to if we only ever see him at the bar, does he live in the back there.. the point is, not having a room or a place of his own we ever get to see, he becomes a literal embodiment of a stray cat who's just kinda around, he comes and goes, sometimes he comes back, sometimes he breaks into your apartment, sometimes he leaves, but he never forgets to wear his collar

gotta love ai di and zongyi having equally unpleasant but polar opposite problems during their years in prison

like zongyi's guy, as they would probably be informed early on, lost all his memories and didn't remember his love, which isn't cool at all

but ai di's guy suddenly got a fucking clarity of his mind and even visited him in prison, which is literally the last thing ai di wanted!

and then there were life threatening situations and violence of course, but that's secondary

the main plot of kiseki dear to me tho.... i really tried to follow it, i did. i have no idea what was happening.. gang wars, drugs, what was with that corporation and the family? why who.. but I understand, we were not there for the plot, we were there for the feelings. whatever elaborate plots that make no sense they need to set up to make two boys kiss, i respect that, i get it

besides, they successfully established their two main thoughts: they support gay marriages and women's wrongs

i'm rewatching the scenes as one does for giffing purposes, and as it's for giffing i'm rewatching with no sound, as usual, so i have music on, and when i get to ai di x chen yi sex scene in ep 9 lovesong by txt starts playing, and it like starts on this moment with

"i know i love you"

and thanks to a pause prompted by my cat, it then got to this moment on the "say you love me" bit

still not over that fucking bizarre interaction that happened in ai di's bar post-jail when that really drunk guy i assume mistook ai di for his boyfriend and was all over him, and then chen yi yoinked ai di out of it (like he does) and that guy bumped into his real boyfriend, and they proceeded to have a conversation about.. scrambled eggs and mayo? and they just talked about mayo for a really long time, while ai di and chen yi just stood there listening, and i can only assume that of course mayo in the scrambled eggs was a metaphor and a parallel to ai di and chen yi's relationship (of course)

and then chen yi told them to get out and the drunk guy i guess misheard him and asked, "naruto? what's that about??" and i just fucking lost it
