I’ve been seeing people vastly misunderstanding the whole point of the shootout scene, so I want to share my analysis here. It’s not just a redemption for Chishiya, and not just a way to make Niragi seem deep and complex. It’s a way to compare the characters of Arisu, Chishiya, and Niragi, and show their adaptability to change.
To begin, the initial main focus of it all is Chishiya. He has just left the King of Diamonds venue, and has realized that he is jealous of people like Kuzuryuu who are able to die happily with a purpose. He is seeking to speak with someone, to open up about his inner turmoils. That is when he gets caught between Arisu and Niragi, two ends of a morality spectrum he is struggling to find his place on.
Now, why does Niragi start this shootout? He says that he, Arisu, and Chishiya are all too similar, and due to this only one of them can live (although, it is later evident that it is for this very reason all three of them survive). Niragi doesn’t say they are similar in regards to their actions in the games; he says this in regards to how they are all inherently selfish people at the core. They put themselves first and foremost, whether intentional or not, and hurt those around them as a result.
For Arisu, this makes more sense in the context of his manga characterization. Manga Arisu has the unintentional tendency of doing things for his own sake when he thinks he has the group’s best interest at heart, and his speech mannerisms mainly revolve around his own feelings. He is selfish without realizing it. The shootout finally makes him conscious of this, and makes him want to remedy this. He is adaptable to change for the better.
For Chishiya, this has been evident from the beginning. He will manipulate and use others for his own gain, without worrying what happens to them afterward. He never goes out of his way to help others, but at the same time never directly hurts them either. He has and recognizes this selfish indifference towards all facets of life. However, the games make him envious of people like Arisu, who are adaptable to change.
For Niragi, it has always been obvious how he embraces his selfishness. He enjoys going out of his way to hurt others and make them suffer. He becomes the abuser to keep from being vulnerable. He is the oddball out of the three, because despite everything, he does not want to change.
Their selfishness is just the example that Niragi gives, but there are other things they have in common as well. Their upbringings, for one – they all lacked love and affection in their home lives. What makes them different in this sense is that Arisu had Chota and Karube to hold him up, who made him more friendly and optimistic towards life. Chishiya had no friends, but no enemies either, which led to his indifference towards life. Niragi had abusers, which led to his hatred and resentment towards life. There’s also how they all initially wanted to stay in the Borderlands; Arisu because he wanted to avoid his real world responsibilities, Chishiya because he was intrigued by the intellectual stimulation and death of the games, and Niragi because he could thrive in a world without laws. But they all eventually came to the realization that they wanted to leave; Arisu first due to escaping and finding a reason for living, Chishiya next due to realizing he needs to reject the offer to truly change, and finally Niragi not because he changed, but because he simply wanted to live.
As you can see, they are all similar characters at three different levels of intensity. Arisu at level one, the level where he is still capable of goodness. Niragi at level three, where he is too far gone and considered evil. Chishiya is stuck in a morally gray area between the two, trying to figure out where he should place himself.
Anyways, back to the shootout. Chishiya came here to talk to Arisu because he wanted to change for the better. But then Niragi came and pulled him backwards, halting his progress. The shootout is a battle of moralities; a push-and-pull between Arisu’s good and Niragi’s evil.
The whole point of this scene was to give all three of them time for introspection. Who are they currently, and who do they want to become? Niragi’s comment about all of them being similar spurs their answers. Arisu is disgusted at the realization of being so similar to Niragi, so he quickly puts his gun down and pledges to change. Chishiya is inclined to distance himself from Niragi once he sees Arisu’s resolve, and only puts his gun down to become uncharacteristic and save Usagi. And Niragi, upon seeing the other two take this chance to renew themselves, realizes that he was foolish to believe anyone could be like him in the first place. He truly is alone in this world, and he only has himself to blame for it. He never lets go of his gun – he fires. And in that split second, why does Arisu pick his gun back up after vowing to change? He does it to save Usagi. To not be selfish and shoot Niragi out of his own hatred, but for the sake of saving Usagi’s life instead. Saving Usagi is the turning point for Arisu’s character, and for Chishiya as well. Niragi’s attempt to kill her demonstrates how he never wanted to change to begin with.
So yes, Niragi was right in saying they are all similar in terms of their selfishness. But he was wrong to believe that they were kindred to him and could not change.
TLDR; all three of them are foils, bound together by their inherent selfishness. This shootout is the defining scene for their characters. Arisu is adaptable to change, Chishiya struggles with his alignment but ultimately chooses to change like Arisu, and Niragi was never meant to change in the first place.

Okay so i think arisu should die in season two (explanation under the cut for season one spoiler reasons) (mentioned this in another post) (i really like him, not relevant) (literally know nothing other than season one of the show , so tell me nothing)
I think it would make sense considering the show and it would be cool if there was no "lead". Before the hearts game they're all mains, i wouldn't like this to be an "immortal protagonist" short of thing and while i llooovvveee (plotwise amazing, pain) the seven of hearts game we saw i think id love it a little bit more if Arisu died at some point during season two, making him just another one of the main characters, not the lead. I know the manga is out , i dont know if it's finished, im not going to look for it , if you know dont tell me.

Maybe established relationship & from chishiyas pov
TyTyTy ❤️
— GUNS AND SPADES
chishiya x gn!reader | ? words
genre: established relationship, slight angst
warnings: s2 spoilers, shooting, guns, blood, death, mentions of fainting, kinda spoilers for chishiya’s past, aib stuff… badly written might edit later idk
synopsis: Surviving in the Borderlands was something you’d been forced to get used to. Getting shot at for absolutely no reason when no game was ongoing was something else entirely.
author’s note: thank you for requesting! hope you like it!! to be honest i struggle with writing about chishiya this way a bit so this isn’t nearly as good as i wanted it to be. also i have no idea where i was going with this. nevertheless i hope it’s nice to read!

The sound of shots was clear. People scrambled around Shibuya Crossing, running for their lives without a care for one another’s. When faced with Death, people showed their true selves— Or whatever.
It would seem that, as per usual, your true self in this situation was to start running away before cursing at Chishiya and pulling him so he’d follow. Sure, he would start running eventually either way, but he certainly took his time.
“Chishiya, seriously.” you scoffed.
Thus the run began.
Arisu, Usagi, Kuina, you, and Chishiya were all lined up hiding behind an underground subway’s stairs entrance, crouching behind the wall and checking through the glass for the unknown shooter.
“Is this a game? Where are the rules?” Usagi exclaimed through panicked breaths. Arisu shook his head immediately.
“There’s nothing. This is just mass murder.”
“Seriously.” you mumbled, checking through the glass, “More people are coming this way. We should get moving.”
You all started running away in a group before realizing there was no point. Arisu yelled at everyone to split up and you all did. Running through a crowd of scared people, all confused and fearing for their lives— It was never a good feeling.
“Ah!”
Especially when some were too rushed in their run and tripped over, resulting in you falling along with them.
“I’m sorry!” the man yelled, scrambling to get up.
You laughed dryly, jumping up to your feet with ease. “You should be.” you breathed out, before ducking and running to the nearest corner. You turned and ran and avoided people and ran and it felt like hours of your breathing getting progressively worse and more heavy before you finally ran into a familiar face.
“[name]!” Kuina exclaimed, stopping in her tracks before you two could run into each other, “Come with me!”
She grabbed your wrist and ran to a car nearby, quickly pulling you to sit down behind it along with her. You exhaled a heavy sigh, your chest heaving up and down and your head spinning.
“You look tired.” a familiar voice spoke casually. You lifted your head up only to see Chishiya look at you with an easy smile, waving his hand from his seat on Kuina’s other side. You deadpanned.
“Yeah. And you don’t.” you scoffed, “Are you two okay?”
“I’m surprised I don’t have a single wound, honestly.” Kuina sighed, head hitting the car’s door in exhaustion, “Seriously, what the fuck is going on?“
You glanced at Chishiya and he gave you a slight nod, affirming that he was okay. You nodded back before looking over your shoulder. “There’s people on the other side of the road. Usagi and Arisu, I think.”
Kuina furrowed her eyebrows before moving her head to the side, signaling you to move over and switch places with her. You did, as discreetly as possible, and let her check whatever it is she wanted to. Chishiya waved two fingers in front of your face and brought your attention to him.
“You good?”
“Yeah.” you sighed, “Just tired. I knew things weren’t over but I expected a little break after the hell that went down at the Beach, at least.”
“The hell continues, I guess.” he said casually, smiling.
You could only sigh.
“You have to stay focused if you don’t wanna die!” Kuina suddenly yelled. You looked over to her and jumped at the sound of shooting right at the road the car you were hiding behind was parked on. Chishiya grabbed your shoulder to pull you back when he did, only relaxing when the shots stopped. Kuina scoffed, “Where the fuck are they shooting from?”
Just as she sat back down properly, an airship of sorts appeared over everyone, creating a looming shadow that did nothing to reassure the players. Chishiya hummed. “The King of Spades.”
“Great.” you commented. There were probably hundreds of pieces of fabric tied together to form a giant King of Spades card floating in the sky, attached to the bottom of the airship. You wondered just how much more of this hell you would have to go through before you could return to the comfort of the hell you knew. The normal world.
Chishiya leaned forward and handed Kuina something. It looked like a can and… Oh. You’d seen him make this back at the Beach one day. He’d made three. They were small bombs but they could definitely help out if you ever needed it. His words. He handed you one as well and you inspected it. “Here you go. A good luck charm.”
“What’s this? A bomb?” Kuina asked.
“Use it when you’re in a pinch.” he said casually.
“You have questionable hobbies, Chishiya.” you hummed, spinning the object in your hand before putting it in your jacket, “Thank you.”
“I second that. Thanks.” Kuina chuckled.
The sound of shots rung in the air as well as several running footsteps along with it. You checked Kuina’s side and saw Arisu and Usagi hide behind the car directly next to yours— Just a few meters away. Kuina tilted her head, “Are you hurt?”
“Did you seriously stop to try and save someone?” you followed after glancing at the dying boy they’d seemingly carried all the way there, and Arisu looked at you with wide eyes, before looking away and grimacing. Nothing new, you thought.
Shots fired again but the sound didn’t drown out the clear, loud honking of a car. You thought you’d imagined it, honestly, because logically speaking there was no reason for anyone to not only show themselves so obviously with a moving car but also announce themselves by honking.
Yet when the entire group looked over to the road there was, indeed, a car waiting. Ann and Tatta. Your eyes widened. “What?”
“Hurry up! Get in!” Tatta yelled.
Usagi and Arisu were the first to run into the car, closely followed by Kuina. Chishiya, irritating as he could get, refused to take his hands out of his pockets to run. You were a bit behind, careful, and caught up to him quickly. “What part of hurry up are you missing?!” you exclaimed.
Chishiya stopped and stared at the ground. You were about to question why he wasn’t going into the car despite standing right in front of it but followed his gaze.
A grenade.
“This is bad. Run!” he instantly yelled, pulling you back and moving to start running away, “Get going! Drive!” he told Tatta, knowing there was no point in risking getting into the car anymore.
“[name]!” Usagi yelled.
Kuina seemed just as worried, “Chishiya!”
The sound of their voices were quickly drowned out when your head hit the hard concrete of the sidewalk as you and Chishiya jumped as far away as possible from the bomb. The explosion went off before your senses could start coming back and just as the car started driving away. You covered the sides of your head with your arms and felt Chishiya’s arm wrap around them.
Everything was spinning. For a moment, you weren’t sure you were alive. Then Chishiya’s voice brushed that thought away.
“We have to move.” he tried to speak over all the noise. You nodded faintly and got up on your feet to the best of your ability, before running away with him— Bullets following you closely.
To Chishiya, this would’ve been fine if you hadn’t been there.
If he had been alone during that shooting, even including the part where he fails to get in the car because of a grenade— it would all have been fine because Chishiya Shuntaro is used to dealing with whatever hellish cards the Borderlands hand him. But that’s where the problem lies;
You’re there.
Chishiya met you before the cruelty of the reality of the world stripped him of his empathy— Forced him into the stoicism of a person suppressing their own emotions. He met you before his job ruined a part of him, and his feelings seemingly didn’t waver one bit at that. The importance of your wellbeing had been something he cared about before but even with attempts at erasing his emotions he couldn’t erase the quickening pace of his heartbeat if he heard you weren’t doing well.
Chishiya made the mistake of letting himself fall for someone back in college (though he claims fall is too ridiculous) and now has to deal with the pains of feeling like he needs to protect said person. You were good at dealing with things yourself, too— Sure, but that didn’t mean anything to the instinctive worry that held him by the throat.
So he watches you, unconscious due to the amount of things that happened in a few seconds, lying on the ground of some empty apartment complex— With something anyone could easily mistake as disdain. It used to be easy dealing with complicated things when he was alone. He was also sure playing games would be so much more simple if you weren’t by his side. All he would have to care for would be his own survival and that would just be it. Now he had to fear Heart games and count you into every calculations he made to get himself out of a deadly game of chess.
It was almost infuriating how much you unconsciously forced him into changing his ways, even after all these years. He figured that was just how things went when you loved someone.
When you shift in your sleep and start sighing, eyes slowly blinking to force yourself awake, Chishiya doesn’t feel the smile form on his lips. “You’re lucky we found this place before you decided to pass out.”
“My God.” you grumbled, sitting up with some effort. “Have you just been sitting there? I’m surprised. Were you watching over me, or something?”
Even in situations like this, you just didn’t miss an opportunity to try and tease him. It’s not like it ever worked, but the attempts were amusing.“You weren’t out for that long.” he spoke as calmly as usual, “Sleep fine?”
“I dreamt of fireworks at Shibuya.” you said, and your voice dropped to a silent low. The shift from casual to slight anxiousness was barely noticeable, but very obvious to Chishiya. You cracked your neck and stretched. “Guess my head decided to make people yelling and loud sounds seem more happy than how it really was.”
“At least your mind’s version of the events that just transpired is less disturbing and nightmarish. Glad to know you slept well.” he said, pushing himself up to stand. “We should check the game nearby. I don’t like the idea of us standing there waiting.”
“Less chances of getting shot by that Kind of Spades, I guess.” you sighed, following him to stand up, “Just as many to get killed, though.”
Chishiya held his hand up and you looked at it, then at him, and a small smile pulled at your lips. You high-fived him and then you both wrapped your fingers around the other’s hand.
“Not if I’m there.” he claims, smirking a little. You scoff lightly and Chishiya knows you feel slightly better. It’s enough for now. The feelings of anxiety are pushed back far away enough for you to focus during games. Enough for you to play properly and keep yourself alive. Chishiya nodded a bit, “Let’s get going.”
“Alright.” you tightened your hold on his hand and you both walked towards the game near where you were staying at— Steeling yourselves for whatever the Borderlands had prepared for you.

˚୨୧⋆。˚ ⋆ QUEENDOM aib characters finding out that their s/o is the queen of hearts and game master (headcannons!)
note: thank you sm for requesting i absolutely love this idea, i really couldn’t wait to write it ( i apologise if something is incorrect, i haven’t had the chance yet to peacefully watch season two but i really wanted to write this )
hikari kuina —
- when the witch hunt ended she was worried about you because she couldn’t find you anywhere but chishiya assured her by telling her that you probably had already left with arisu and usagi
- chishiya then led her to one of the control rooms where they reunited with arisu and usagi
- kuina immediately asked them whether they knew where you were but when they said they didn’t her worry increased
- but she promised herself she would go find you as soon as she was done with this
- the room full of computers left her slightly speechless and she really didn’t know what to think as chishiya and arisu spoke
- as the four of them discussed who could possibly be the game maker, all the computers lit up
- kuina’s held her breath as the game master spoke but when your face clearly appeared on the screens she couldn’t deny it anymore
- her eyes widened and her mouth fell open as your name slipped out of it
- she couldn’t comprehend how you were the one to create this hell not after all the intimate moments you shared
- chishiya had warned her about you, she should have listened but she couldn’t when you were so sweet and loving
- while chishiya had absolutely no idea that you could possibly be the game master he knew to be wary of you because of your specialty in heart games
- kuina quietly watched you laugh while explaining that there would be more games, her heart clenching at the thought that you perhaps never even loved her
- in that moment she truly wished to see an alien instead of you or anyone else for that matter just not you
- when arisu remembered that you and kuina were dating he questioned her whether you had told her anything that could be useful but her response was quite defensive because she was very upset
- she’ll try to forget about you and remind herself that you have to be beaten so she could go home to her sick mother
- she couldn’t help but miss you
- when she saw the fireworks go off, indicating that arisu and usagi had beaten you she felt her eyes watering as she quietly mourned you despite everything you did
- she realised that there was a small part of you that truly loved her
morizono aguni —
- this man is thinking about you 24/7
- he can’t find you anywhere nor anyone who might know where you are
- akane wasn’t much help when he attempted to describe you she only gave him a weirded out look
- so when he found arisu he was ecstatic
- he sat by the river preparing himself for any answer that arisu might give him
- except for the one where you’re the game master
- his movements stop and he feels like he’s about to throw up
- he doesn’t actually listens to what else arisu is saying
- aguni would feel very betrayed and angry, he’s sure that if you were in front of him he’d kill you
- but with time he slightly calms down but he refuses to talk about you to anyone
- he’d question everything you said and did
- tbh he wouldn’t even be surprised anymore if everything you said were lies
- he does wonder though why you became a game master and he’s slightly disappointed in himself that he never even suspected you
- don’t expect him to forgive you for everything you did, he won’t
- but he knows that he still loves you even though you ruined his life
rizuna ann —
- ann had noticed you leaving during the witch hunt but she didn’t think much of it, assuming that you were looking for a place to hide
- but when the game ended and you weren’t anywhere to be found, her concerns grew
- tatta eventually noticed the frown adorning her face and tried to reassure her by telling her that perhaps you went with kuina and chishiya
- while ann knew that was highly unlikely, she kept repeating it in her head so she wouldn’t just stand there
- a day passed and you still hadn’t returned so ann and tatta decided to drive around the city while the other citizens of the beach immigrated to the center of tokyo
- but her search for you had to wait as a new game started
- ann and tatta noticed arisu, usagi, kuina and chishiya hiding while attempting to run away and quickly stopped to pick them up
- she quietly listened to them discuss about the king of spades but quickly straightened up when usagi asked if you were even human
- ann turned around slightly and pretended to ignore the pitying look that kuina gave her as she asked them what you had to do with it
- the color drained from her face and her eyes were wide as arisu told her that you were the game master
- she quickly turned back into her seat while blinking rapidly to stop the tears from forming
- fortunately the king of spades managed to distract her for a while so she wouldn’t think about you
- ann took it pretty hard but pretended like nothing happened and denied feeling hurt by it
- it was only when she was laying beside kuina, taking her last breaths that she let a tear escape
- the last thing she saw were fireworks, her last thought being how you would be together in another life one where nothing would come in between the two of you
ryohei arisu —
- as soon as he realised that you weren’t beside him he started searching for you
- both he and usagi looked everywhere for you but when they were unable to find you, they went to look for the control room with heavy hearts
- the two were left dumbfounded when they saw the hundreds perhaps thousands of screens with bodies littered all across the room
- shortly after chishiya and kuina arrived at the scene before the screens lit up while a cheerful song played
- his heart stopped the moment he realised it was you on the screen
- his emotions were eating him up and his heart was clenching so heart he thought he was about to collapse
- his hands were shaking and he barely managed to keep himself from falling as he watched you smiling joyfully at him
- he barely comprehended what was happening around him as you announced the new games
- he wondered how you could do something like that to him after everything you went through together, after all the things you said to one another
- but he realised that he couldn’t try to justify your actions nor forgive you because he couldn’t betray karube and chota like that
- so he played the games with a broken heart beyond repair
- when he and usagi entered the last game venue he felt his eyes watering
- there you stood with a wide smile as you welcomed them as the queen of hearts
- as the game went on he realised that you truly had no idea what love was despite him having declared his love to you multiple times and shown you affection
- when you revealed that you made the seven hearts game specifically for him and his dead friends he was ready to shoot you
- but to escape the borderlands he had to win and he can’t win if you’re not alive
- he could feel usagi’s concerned glances as you continued manipulating them, making them question everything they knew
- but at the end when you gracefully died with a smile on your face, one that would haunt him for the rest of his life, he knew that you had grown to love him in your own twisted sick way
shuntaro chishiya —
- chishiya had quickly noticed that you were gone but despite his concern he left to find the control room
- he knew that you could handle being on your own for a few hours so he thoughts he could quickly get over with it before he and kuina would search the city for you
- but as you appeared on the countless amount of screens with open arms and a wide smile he realised that he probably would never see you again
- he couldn’t stop the way his face fell at the realisation that you had manipulated him
- chishiya knew he should have listened to his gut feeling but it was too late now
- he cared too much about you, much more than he normally would
- he felt like cursing you and shoving you off a building but he couldn’t ignore the stinging pain in his heart
- when kuina turned to him with wide concerned eyes he played it off by saying that he should have expected it from someone like you
- and during the whole time that he played games you wouldn’t leave his thoughts
- he wondered whether you made the collar that he was wearing or perhaps you just made the design
- the overthinking wouldn’t stop and he hated himself for ever loving you
- but as he was laying against a car with a bullet in his chest, he replayed all the moments he shared with you
- the final and last blow came when the fireworks went off and he got given an option of staying or leaving
- his heart shattered at the realisation that you were dead
- he looked at the exploding queen of hearts cards and wondered if you ever meant what you said to him, and as much as he hated it he knew that he had meant every word he said to you
suguru niragi —
- tbh he had better things to worry about during the ten hearts game so he only thought about you when everything had calmed down
- he was sitting on the ground while wrapping some bandages around his burned body when he wondered what you were doing
- when he found the king of clubs game he was actually looking for you and was slightly annoyed to see you weren’t there
- but he saw arisu and his friends so he wanted to ask them
- unfortunately he was too slow and the game had already started so he decided to ask after the game
- after kuina and arisu gave him a high-five he questioned them about your whereabouts
- he rolled his eyes as they all nervously glanced at each other before they told him that you were the game master
- he was not expecting that shit
- at first he’d think that they all went crazy but as he thought about it, it did make sense
- he would feel furious at first then he’d calm down
- niragi would wonder who of you was crazier: you, a sadistic liar or him, an abusive, psychotic narcissist
- it didn’t take long for him to conclude that you were ‘definitely crazier’ than him
- even though he found out that you were the game master, niragi would still run around looking for you
- after he shot chishiya and was dying on the floor not too far from the blonde, he would think about you
- now he was a 100% sure that you manipulated him into thinking that he loved you bc he’s sure that he’ll never love someone
- suddenly the large sign of the queen of hearts exploded and his heart dropped as he realised that you died
- fireworks went off indicating that they had won and could leave but tears were falling from his eyes as he kept his gaze steady on the rooftop where you had died
yuzuha usagi —
- usagi was breathing heavily as she watched the beach burn until she thought about the last time she saw you
- it had been in the beginning of the game and you promised her to hide while she went to help arisu
- but as she looked around she realised you weren’t there
- arisu managed to convince her to go to the control room with him after promising to help her looking for you after
- but the after never came when they found out that you were the game master
- usagi felt devastated as she watched you talk on the screens with a smile
- she wondered whether you ever faked the words you said
- but even if you did she wasn’t ready to let go of you yet
- she claimed to hate you and everything you did but her heart already clenched at the mention of your name
- at night she cried into arisu’s shoulder as she wondered where it went wrong
- during the games she managed to distract herself long enough to forget you for a couple of hours but when the adrenaline started to disappear you would haunt her mind endlessly
- when time came to play against the queen of hearts she felt like she could die of heartache alone
- arisu had offered to go alone but usagi refused to let her friend go against you all alone
- but reality really hit her when you stood there with a pretty dress and a charming smile on your face that usually would have swooned her
- for the entire game she had to hold back tears anytime she looked at you
- pain, betrayal and anger took over when you treated her as if you weren’t making people play to survive
- it was only when she looked up at you as she was bleeding in arisu’s arms, that she recognised a part of you by the look in your eyes
- it was the same look you gave her anytime she kissed you after a game with blush coating her cheeks or when you brushed your teeth in the morning while looking at her through the bathroom mirror with upturned lips
- she felt a sob take through her body and she knew the worst had yet to come
- and her prediction was right, you looked at her with a peaceful smile on your face before the laser went right through your head
- as your body fell to the ground, usagi rushed towards your body with trembling hands as she clung onto your body for the last time

Hi! I finished AIB and honestly it was a rollercoaster. I was wondering if you could do a Chishiya fluff of them competing in one of the games from season 2? (Any maybe kinda established relationship- I’m in love with him)
i can sure try! (*˘︶˘*).。*♡ thank you for requesting and feedback is always welcome. it's very short but i think it turned out okay!
"Are you insane? You jumped out of a moving car!", Chishiya chastised you while you both took refuge in a building nearby, huddling close to each other and whispering, while the two of you thought of ways to avoid the King of Spades.
"Well, I wasn't about to leave you!", you said, decidedly as if it was an universal truth. "You didn't leave me in the first game we played, you didn't leave me back when the Beach was burning... I'm not leaving you now. You made me a promise, remember?", you smiled, intertwining your fingers together. Usually, Chishiya wasn't one for PDA but since it was just the two of you inside an abandoned building, you thought it would be a good exception. He made sure no one knew about the two of you back in the Beach, not even Kuina knew until you were months in.
"Hm, did I? I don't recall", he teased with a slight smile, tightening his hand around yours. Of course Chishiya remembered, he wasn't one to make promises after all, but he indulged both you and himself with that one. 'We'll get out of here together'.
"You don't, huh?", you chuckled. "Well, I do. It's very important to me. Something something we'll get out of here together, if I'm not mistaken", you smiled at him.
"Oh, yes. I suppose I did. Hm. Now I have no choice but to go through with it, do I?", he humored, earning himself a weak slap to the arm while he raised his hands in surrender, not letting go of your hand and effectively pulling you into him.
"Damn right you don't. You're not getting rid of me that easy. Our promise go both ways", you said, quietly, now admiring him upclose. At the sound of gunshots far away, you hid your face in his chest for a moment. "If we can get rid of him. What the hell, does he has infinite ammo?"
"I guess. We'll wait for him to pass by and then we'll move. Find a game. Find the others, if possible. You alright with that?", he asked, leaning in close.
"I'm fine with whatever if it means you'll be by my side", you were determined, Chishiya could see that. Could see that you meant every word, and your undying loyalty made his heart clench.
"Of course I'll be by your side. I'm not that easy to get rid of either", he pecked your lips.

im gonna be honest. i dont care if this is ooc this man is so babygirl. those shoulders.... those hips.... that face. damn put me in the ground already 😭😭 also, you might know me from an old writing blog.. @/saebyeoked. i moved over here awhile ago, so i figured i'd write for aib here instead :)
gn!reader | tws: banda is a murderer... that's really it. overall pretty fluffy !! season 2 spoilers, and probably ooc banda | join my taglist !!
dating banda sunato headcanons
Tumblr media
you met in the solitary confinement game. he immediately caught your eye. you weren't too sure on what it was, but there was something about him that had you captivated from the beginning
you, banda and matsushita form a trio, telling each other what your symbols are. your relationship with both of them is pretty simple, and you don't get closer to banda up until the game is over
chishiya had asked you to tell him his symbol, as his partner died in the previous round. he had told you that banda was a murderer, and you shouldn't put too much trust in him. he had yet to lie to you.. so you brushed his comments aside
so what if he was a murderer? wasn't everyone, at least in this world?
though, you would be lying if you said the information didn't put a pit in your stomach— one that was growing with each passing day in the borderlands anyway
you caught his eye back in the jack of hearts game, too. mostly keeping to yourself, he could tell you were scared of dying. he wasn't, but it didn't mean he wanted to by any means
you, chishiya, yaba and banda end up living through the game— and you feel something pulling you to banda. for some reason, you decide to go with him instead of chishiya
your relationship begins to progress after it's just the two of you alone. you become friends surprisingly quickly, for a man who was a murderer in the real world.. he isn't the worst company
he's intelligent, quick on his feet and able to read situations really easily. it's nice to have him around for those reasons, if nothing else
banda has a very hard time expressing his emotions. he isn't big on friends, so it takes awhile for you to get close enough to him for him to think of you romantically
he knows what that feeling in his heart is, and he pushes it away until he can't ignore it anymore
neither of you really.. confess. you two just flirt— a lot. you insist to yourself that it means nothing, and flirting is just a fun way to pass the time or something. but it does become something more
you realize you like him romantically when he saves you in a game. it's nothing big, not in his eyes, anyway. he pulls you out of the way of an object that otherwise would've crushed you, and he acts like it was nothing
neither of you ever say you like each other romantically. it just.. happens
you're initiating the first kiss, obviously. he acts so cocky in every situation and he tries to hide the fact that he has no idea what to do from you
over the time you spent together, you're able to read each other really well. it's a major benefit in your relationship, as you both know whenever the other is feeling upset or angry about something
as a boyfriend... i will say he has experience. he knows what to do to get you flustered and hiding your face in your hands, and that's at the very bottom of the list of things he does
he tries not to be cheesy. but he will set up makeshift dates while the two of you are out scavenging. he never plans them beforehand, but you don't care. he doesn't even have to do it in the first place— as long as you get to spend time with him that's enough
he isn't big on pda. there's no one around in your world, but it's a general thing for him. it makes him feel really exposed.. and it bothers him
though, if it's something you enjoy he'll hold your hand occasionally. that's really all he'll do, but it's more than you ask for
he doesn't mind physical touch in the moments where it feels right. if you're having trouble falling asleep, he'll pull you into his chest and just.. talk to you to help you relax
his voice is the most relaxing thing in the world in your mind. he could be reading out the dictionary to you and it would help you in some way
banda's VERY protective. he knows you're more than capable, but he does want to keep you safe
as much as he tries to act tough, he has a soft spot for you and your safety is a priority to him. he'll go out of his way to make sure you're okay, even if he's injured
he's a surprisingly sweet boyfriend. despite his.. history...
taking everything he sees that he thinks you'd like or reminds him of you to give to you at some point, picking out your favorite food at a store if he sees it laying around.. all simple, yet noticeable things to show he cares
most of the time, you'll be the one initiating physical affection with him. he has other ways of expressing his feelings for you, but if it's a love language of yours he learns to not mind it too much when it's appropriate
boundaries! super important in any relationship, and he sets them up with you really quickly. always respectful of you, and will back off if you tell him you're not feeling something
as strange as it feels to admit it, he feels himself warming up. becoming a better person. that doesn't mean he changes his attitude, though
it just means that.. he is more willing to help people struggling, even if you aren't around. if he walks away, he'll picture your smiling face in his mind and turn around
he has a guilty conscience okay
teases you whenever he sees an opportunity to. if you're staring at him? he's teasing you. it happens more frequently than you'd probably like to admit but you looove how he sounds whenever he teases you
his voice is just... so soothing. even when he's using it to embarrass you somehow
teaming up in games because you're the only person he trusts with his entire being
if you ever say you love him.... he's lucky he can hide his emotions on his face because WOO he's a bit flustered
he doesn't say it back right away, but it doesn't mean he doesn't feel the same way. when he does say it, it's a very special moment, probably after a game where you both almost died
he expresses his love in other ways, mostly. quality time is his biggest love language. it's easy, and meaningful at the same time :")
reading books in silence <3
overall, he's a good boyfriend. he knows what you need when you need it and he's willing to learn from you, which is more than what some people are okay with
he admits when he's wrong. he's okay with making mistakes, and you never judge him for it
he's different. but you like it. and you like him, obviously
he lucky. he knows that, and he repeats it to himself over and over in his mind sometimes just to ground himself
he wakes up in the morning and has you? someone as kind as you? loving him? it baffles him, but he doesn't complain
he really does love you. he has trouble saying the words, but he will say it verbally when he feels the need to
he's nice to only you, normally
you make him feel good. he won't ever throw it away, and he makes that promise to himself
if he ever looses you, he's really messed up. you're so GOOD and he can't ever let you slip through his fingers

➺ pairing: chishiya shuntaro x gn!reader ➺ word count: 0.1k ➺ cw: fluff, written in lowercase, possibly off character chishiya, not proofread, aib season 2 spoilers a/n: not perfect writing, but it is what it is.

the first thing you feel when you wake up are the soft covers and the faint throbbing in your head. you open your eyes to see a white hospital ceiling. you look around and see flowers on your bed. ah.. rue flowers.
a minute passes by, and you start to remember everything that had happened. from the start when you got transported to borderland, reuniting with your friends, chishiya, to when you decided to return to the real world, everything.
suddenly, you notice faint footsteps coming closer to your room and eventually a knock to your door. when the door opens, a man who has platinum blond hair walks in. the man looks familiar, you know who the man is. "you finally awake huh?"
"...chishiya?" The name slid off your tounge.
"hmm?" he mumbled while he takes a glass and fills it with fresh water. "how long was I out?", you said as you sat up from your bed.
"not that long, just two days." he offers the filled glass. "is that from you?" you said smiling while looking at the rue flowers. "who knows? ready to go home?"
"yeah. let’s go home."

One of the things I had to come to terms with, as a manga reader is that in order for me to fully enjoy the live action adaption of Alice in Borderland is for me to sepparate Manga Chishiya and Show Chishiya as two different characters.
Some things change during adaptions, that's inevitable, but AiB did such a remarkable job at keeping (and sometimes elevating) the core concepts of the source material, I fear I may have grown a bit spoiled.
Take Kuzuryuu for example. In the manga, Kuzuryuu was the dealer for the 4 of clubs (which Arisu and Usagi don't participate). He plays the part of the inured player who needs to stay in the bus, there he meets a kind woman who refuses to leave him behind and stays on the bus with him. In the show, he meets the 4 of clubs survivor, the guy Arisu saved, who in an effort to pass on Arisu's kindness, saves Kuzuryuu himself.
Even if these are altered scenarios, the core of it stays the same. Through the 4 of clubs, Kuzuryuu finds that kindness and altruism are possible even in the borderlands (something he believed to be impossible).
Chishiya on the other hand, has his core aspects changed.
One thing I have touched a lot on ever since season 1 came out was the decision they made to switch Arisu and Chishiya's specialties. Arisu is a hearts specialist who in the show becomes a diamonds player. Chishiya is a diamonds specialist who is changed into a hearts player.
This fundamentally changes both of their main arcs as well as the way they paralel each other. Chishiya suffering the most for it. In the manga, Chishiya is fully incapable of understanding hearts games. He doesn’t deal well with them to the point where he never actually solved the witch hunt. He was never part of the Jack of hearts in the first place.
Manga Chishiya was neglected from e very young age, to the point where he doesnt remember what it's like to properly emote or empathize with people. His own complicated relationship with his father causes him to view every relationship he has as transactions. He's cold, to the point of denying a dying man his last wish only because it was inconvenient for Chishiya to help him.
Show Chishiya used to be an empathetic person. He went into pediatrics. He cared for his patients. The medical industry had beaten it all out of him to the point he had been numbed to his own feelings. He's alone and scared to be alone.
Now, I don't particularly dislike this adaption of Chishiya. After the initial shock, I came to the conclusion that the show's writing team had been really smart about the way they went with his character.
Especially considering that Chishiya is a fan favorite, it makes sense that the show writers would want for him to remain desirable and lovable to the audience. Manga Chishiya as complex and fun as he is, is a really dislikable character. Choosing to give Chishiya that hearts speciality, that softer side, managed to keep him likable even as he acted like a anti-hero.
It's also my belief that this was a season 2 choice, as in season 1 he acts pretty similar to his manga self. Which is why you can see the disconnect in his characterizartion between both seasons.
So yeah, once I let go of the manga a little bit, I was able to fully appreciate the work they did for the character in the show. AiB is a wonderful adaption and it deserves a lot of love and praise.

⚠️A little drabble with slight Season 2 spoilers for AIB. ⚠️ this was shit.
“You had every opportunity to be rid of me and yet here I still breath, has my usefulness to you not ran out yet after all this time? Had there not been a time where you could’ve easily disposed of me?” You asked Chishiya as you dragged your bleeding form -curtesy of the king of spades- to mark your final resting place beside him, back pressed up against the car; too tired to accompany Arisu and Usagi to the final game but your faith in them was unwavering. They’ve came this far so it stood to reason that they could put an end to all this. You’ve all lost too much to meet your end here; despite how tragic that sounded, it was a befitting end. To die at the end of the game.
Freedom is almost within reach now and all you could do was reminisce on your time in the Borderlands as time etched away slower then usual. For you the more notable moments took place at The Beach; the once warm safe haven that turned into a nightmarish hellscape right to the very end as it burned down in a blaze of fierce flames. You met Chishiya and Kuina there during a period of your life where you’ve seen one too many of your friends die during the games; Even gotten betrayed by one or two during the more morally tolling ones, which forced your hand into killing them so that you may survive in their stead.
So your willingness to befriend or ally yourself with someone else were slim to none. At the time you didn’t care if you lived when participating in the games, so much so that it made you more reckless and daring during them. Which in retrospect was the dumbest shit you’ve ever done; thinking that the consequences don’t extend to you after your dead because they do and the games like to remind every participant of that. So when you did meet Chishiya and Kuina, you knew what they’re game was almost immediately.
They weren’t here to make friends and neither were you, which was why when one day they did approach you that you were immediately on high alert, hand reaching for the knife that you kept after removing it from the cold hand of a dead man you came across before reaching the massive mansion of party goers. They extended their hand in ‘friendship’ but you shut it down as you stared at them dead in the eyes and told them, “don’t think I don’t know what game your playing at because I ain’t willing in becoming an meat shield for either of you to hide behind when things get too rough. Find some other gullible bastard and quit bothering me.” Before leaving the pair in the hallway as you went to prepare for another game.
Another memory you remember so fondly was when after you had gotten hurt from a game, instead of going back to the cars that would lead you back to The Beach, you slunk your way into an alleyway to die, your position was very much the same as the one you were in currently, back pressed against the brick wall and waiting death to take you far away from this desolate hellhole. Just when you had closed your eyes in acceptance, a voice called out to you and it wasn’t belonging to an angel; It was Chishiya. “What’re you doing?” He asked, however you knew that he could care less for the reason, he just wanted to get a reaction out of you for his own entertainment.
“Waiting to die so I can be as far away from you as possible.” You replied, not bothering to opening your eyes to him.
“That’s a little dramatic don’t you think?” He responds, leaning against the wall as his eyes examine the wounds you received as his brows furrowed but not out of worry.
“Doesn’t matter, all that does is the fact that soon I’ll be free from all this pain and will never have to participate in another game as I cross over into the afterlife.” You stood to your reasoning with steadfast loyalty.
“Dramatic and selfish,” Chishiya said as he ventured forth into the alleyway and knelt so that he was in front of you, getting a better look at your injuries. He didn’t have the best view from where he was standing previously and decided that closer examination was needed. So he kept the conversation going without easing any suspicion within you as you ‘awaited death’ as you so kindly put it. “Your wounds aren’t that severe, they’re deep but the only everlasting thing they’ve leave is a scar at most.” He deduced as you opened your eyes to glare at him. “Now get up before the cars leave us behind and we’re presumed dead.” Chishiya then stood up, offered out his hand for you to take.
You begrudgingly took his hand as he then hauled you off of the floor and began to help you hobble back to the cars that took you back to The Beach, where Kuina was waiting in the lobby for him and subsequently you as she took you off of his hands and aided in getting you to Ann for medical attention. Luckily the additional days added to your visa allowed you to make a full recovery for the next game.
The rest were blurred chaos of varying degrees and the only face that you could clearly make out of that mess was Chishiya’s and his voice, cool under pressure, guiding you to clearing your hectic mind and silence the unnecessary noise that would’ve inevitably have you killed. Even when you weren’t accompanying him in certain games, his presence was with always with you that soon before you allowed yourself to be swept away with everyone else and their growing anxieties, you would clear away their screeching voices and allow yourself to let the answer come to you rather then hopelessly chase it.
“You’re right, I did have opportune moments where I could be rid of you in order to save myself but for some reason, I just let them keep slipping through my fingers. Every time. At first I was wondering if I had let this place force me into a moment of weakness. I was left perplexed and questioning everything when all but soon enough I found my answer.” Chishiya said calmly for a guy who had just gotten shot. Twice. “What was it?” You asked him, awaiting him to finish the sentence on baited breath. “I got attached.” He finally answered glancing over to gauge your reaction like he always did. Which was a habit of his that you’ve only began to take notice as of just recently. He never did once glance at anyone else other then you when he wanted to know how his words affected someone.
Chishiya knew how he made people feel but for some reason he put more effort into knowing how you felt about his words, his actions, everything. It was weird, he even did this back at the beach but when you asked Kuina about this, her answer didn’t make any sense to you. “He’s grown attached to you.” She said but you could only scoff at such ridiculousness, “he only cares about what I came give him. Face it Kuina, Chishiya would rather throw me under the bus then ever admit it to my face that he’s attached.”
You stared at him as though he had grown a second head all the while he rested his head on your shoulder, “what’re your plans after we get out of here?” He changed the subjected, already knowing how you felt about him, he always knew and deep down he believed that you did too and that’s why you didn’t say anything in response. “I don’t know, I’ve worn myself down by just trying to survive and outlive others that I haven’t given it all that much thought.” You admitted to him in a moment of vulnerability, “but I wouldn’t mind it if we went through the unknown together.” You added, resting your head on top of Chishiya’s.
“Is that so?” He asks with a slight air to his tone as though he found all this funny but his hand reached for your own, you tensed at how cold you’ve both become in such a short amount of time that you were starting to actually face your own mortality. It was scary but for Chishiya; you’d brave anything. “Only if you want to of course, wouldn’t want to deter the great Chishiya Shuntaro from better things.” You added as to make light of your situation but faulted when you felt him starting to weigh heavily against your side. “Chishiya?” You said softly. “That sounds nice,” he finally spoke after a moment of silence but his voice was a lot quieter then before, “see you on the other side.” He added as the blimp belonging to the Queen of Hearts finally came down in the form of fiery rain before everything became black.
You awoke in a hospital with no memory of how you got here. Lost and afraid you almost called out in a state of panic when is voice, cool and collected, reached out to you. Silencing the unnecessary noise within. “Your finally awake.”

UM UM CHISHIYA X READER
READER MAKES CHISHIYA JELLY ON PURPOSE BY FLIRTNG WITH NIRAGI
(season 1 aib btw, like before the game at the beach happened)
dkjskl
RAHH I LOVED THIS REQUEST EVEN THOUGH I LOWKEY HATE NIRAGI
Okay, to be completely honest, I originally wrote this as a scene during season two which you specified NOT to do but, in my defense, my brain was fried from a 54 question government test. SO‼️ I rewrote it. I hope you enjoy <3
Warnings: none this time :) unless you count Niragi but I tried to make him less of a douche
Around three weeks ago, you had found Niragi nearly dead on the street, desperately clutching a card in his unharmed hand. With the little strength you had, you dragged him all the way back to your shelter. Well, Chishiya’s shelter, he was letting you stay with him. (What a good lover, right?) And then you had proceeded to clean him up, bandage him, and even feed him before Chishiya got back from doing whatever he deemed so important to do every day. He called it “scouting”. When he got back, to say he was upset would be an understatement. While Chishiya never raised his voice, his words were cold and furious. Eventually, you calmed him down and explained that Niragi would only be staying for a little while until he healed enough to be on his way. Chishiya muttered something under his breath about “aiding the enemy” but he walked away, hands in his pockets.
Now, three weeks later, Niragi was almost ready to be on his way. He was to leave in five days. And you were feeling mischievous. You and Niragi were cleaning up lunch when you brought up your million-dollar plan.
“I want to make Chishiya jealous.” You said, turning to the dark-haired man. He raised a brow at you, intrigued.
     “Do you, now? Why’s that?”
“I want to get his attention. He’s always out. And we both appreciate a good game. He’ll catch on quickly, but I wonder how he’ll react.” You explained, a slight grin on your face.
“Alright,” Niragi said after a few moments of contemplation. “I’ll help you~” he purred, leaning close to your face. You cringed back, scowling.
“Not right now, creep.” You said, partially joking. Nirgai shrugged a gruff chuckle leaving him as he turned away to finish cleaning up your guys’ lunch.
Later that night, when Chishiya was back and the three of you were eating dinner, Niragi’s hand kept drifting to your thigh. Chishiya’s gaze darkened, but he didn’t say anything. Not even when you seemed to like the touch. Niragi’s hand never strayed far from your thigh, which you appreciated, but you were disappointed Chishiya had no reaction.
The next day, Niragi began to hold your hand, smirking in Chishiya’s direction. Just like you had said, Chishiya caught on quickly. Of course, you were playing a game with him. Well, games like this took two players, and he was not one to back down from a psychological challenge. He simply acted as though he didn’t see his lover practically getting groped in front of him, acted oblivious to the lewd comments Niragi snickered and sneered. He did not budge.
Until the day before Niragi was to leave. Chishiya’s patience was wearing thin, but he assumed that he could hold out until Niragi left. What he did not take into consideration was the fact that Niragi would unabashedly put his lips upon your skin. He did not think that Niragi would have the balls to kiss the soft flesh of your shoulder. And he did not account for the fact that he would storm forward and shove Niragi down, curling his lip.
“Touch them again and I’ll kill you, game or not.” Chishiya spat dangerously. Niragi simply grinned up at the blond man.
“I’d like to see you try, squirt.” He sneered. Chishiya clenched his fists, and you grabbed his arm, causing him to look at you, brow furrowed.
Leave,” Chishiya said finally. Niragi stood up, brushing his pants off and rolling his eyes.
“You’re no fun.” He said, grabbing his meager bag of possessions and making his way out of the shelter. When he was gone, you leaned forward to Chishiya’s ear.
“I win~” you whispered, your lips brushing against the shell of his ear. Chishiya rolled his eyes, causing you to giggle.
“Yeah. This time.” He said, narrowing his eyes. “I’ll get you back, though.”
