Understanding the Factors Affecting Dissolved Oxygen Levels in Aquaculture Ponds
Dissolved oxygen (DO) is a crucial parameter in aquaculture ponds, directly influencing the health, growth, and survival of aquatic species such as fish, shrimp, and other marine life. Proper management of DO levels is essential to ensure a healthy environment, promoting efficient production and minimizing losses. Various factors impact DO levels, and understanding these is key to maintaining a balanced and productive pond ecosystem. This blog will explore the factors affecting DO levels in aquaculture ponds, with a focus on how the type of marine life stocked influences oxygen dynamics.
 1. Temperature
Temperature is a fundamental factor that affects dissolved oxygen levels in water. As water temperature increases, the solubility of oxygen decreases. Warmer water holds less oxygen, which can be problematic during hot weather when DO levels may drop to critical levels. Additionally, higher temperatures increase the metabolic rates of fish and shrimp, leading to higher oxygen consumption.
In ponds with higher temperatures, it becomes essential to monitor DO levels closely, especially during the summer months. Aeration systems can help mitigate the effects of temperature on DO by enhancing oxygen diffusion and water circulation.
Tumblr media
2. Salinity
Salinity, or the concentration of dissolved salts in water, influences the solubility of oxygen. Higher salinity reduces the amount of oxygen that can be dissolved in water, which is particularly relevant in brackish water ponds used for shrimp farming or marine aquaculture. As salinity increases, DO levels decrease, making it crucial to monitor and manage salinity levels effectively.
In areas where freshwater availability is limited, maintaining the balance between salinity and DO is vital. Proper aeration and water exchange practices can help maintain adequate oxygen levels in high-salinity environments.
Tumblr media
 3. Photosynthesis and Respiration
Aquatic plants, algae, and phytoplankton contribute to oxygen dynamics in ponds through photosynthesis and respiration. During the day, these organisms produce oxygen, which can increase DO levels. However, at night, they consume oxygen through respiration, potentially leading to decreased DO levels.
Ponds with dense algal blooms may experience significant diurnal fluctuations in DO levels. These fluctuations can stress aquatic life, particularly during early morning hours when oxygen levels are lowest. Managing algal growth and ensuring adequate aeration are important to stabilize DO levels.
Tumblr media
 4. Organic Matter and Decomposition
The accumulation of organic matter, such as uneaten feed, fish waste, and dead plant material, contributes to oxygen consumption through decomposition. Microbial activity breaks down this organic matter, consuming large amounts of oxygen in the process. High levels of organic matter can lead to oxygen depletion, especially in the bottom layers of the pond.
Effective pond management practices, such as regular sludge removal and the use of high-quality feed, can help reduce organic matter buildup and maintain higher DO levels. Aeration also supports aerobic decomposition, which is more efficient and less harmful to aquatic life.
 5. Stocking Density
Stocking density, or the number of fish, shrimp, or other organisms in a pond, directly affects oxygen demand. Higher stocking densities increase the overall oxygen demand, which can lead to lower DO levels if not managed properly. In intensive aquaculture systems, careful monitoring and management of DO levels are essential to prevent oxygen-related stress.
Balancing stocking density with available oxygen resources is crucial for maintaining healthy and productive ponds. Regular monitoring and adjustments to aeration and feeding practices can help ensure that oxygen supply meets the demand.
 6. Water Movement and Circulation
Water movement and circulation are critical for maintaining uniform DO levels throughout the pond. In stagnant ponds, oxygen tends to stratify, with higher concentrations near the surface and lower concentrations at greater depths. This stratification can create oxygen-depleted zones, particularly at the bottom of the pond.
Aeration and circulation systems help mix the water, distributing oxygen more evenly. Proper water movement also prevents the formation of "dead zones" where oxygen levels are too low to support aquatic life. Regular operation of aeration systems during critical periods is essential for maintaining optimal DO levels.
 7. Feeding Practices
Feeding practices significantly impact DO levels in aquaculture ponds. Overfeeding can lead to the accumulation of uneaten feed, which increases organic matter and oxygen consumption through decomposition. Additionally, the metabolic activity of fish and shrimp increases during feeding, temporarily raising their oxygen demand.
Using high-quality feed, feeding in appropriate quantities, and scheduling feedings during cooler parts of the day can help minimize the impact on DO levels. These practices contribute to more stable oxygen levels and healthier aquatic life.
 8. Weather Conditions
Weather conditions, including wind, rain, and atmospheric pressure, influence DO levels in aquaculture ponds. Wind promotes surface agitation and mixing, enhancing oxygenation. Rain can either increase or decrease DO levels, depending on its intensity and temperature. Atmospheric pressure also affects oxygen solubility, with lower pressure reducing DO levels.
Weather-related fluctuations in DO levels can be managed through the use of aeration systems and careful monitoring of weather patterns. Anticipating changes in weather and adjusting pond management practices accordingly can help maintain stable DO levels.
 9. Pond Depth and Area
The physical characteristics of the pond, such as its depth and surface area, affect oxygen diffusion and distribution. Shallow ponds generally have better oxygenation at the bottom due to easier mixing by wind and aeration. However, they are more susceptible to temperature fluctuations. Deep ponds may experience stratification, with oxygen-depleted zones forming at greater depths.
Proper pond design and management, along with strategic placement of aerators, can help maintain adequate DO levels throughout the pond. Regular monitoring of DO at different depths ensures that all areas of the pond remain well-oxygenated.
10. Water Quality Parameters
Water quality parameters, including pH, ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate levels, influence dissolved oxygen availability. High levels of ammonia and nitrites are toxic to aquatic life and increase oxygen demand. The conversion of ammonia to nitrate through nitrification consumes oxygen, further reducing DO levels.
Maintaining optimal water quality through regular monitoring and management is crucial for preventing oxygen depletion. Aeration supports nitrification processes, helping to control toxic compounds while maintaining sufficient DO levels.
11.Type of Marine Life Stocked
The specific type of marine life stocked in the pond—whether fish, shrimp, seaweed, or other species—significantly affects DO levels. Different species have varying oxygen requirements and contribute differently to the pond's oxygen dynamics.
Fish: Fish, especially species like tilapia or catfish, typically have moderate to high oxygen demands. They are active swimmers and require well-oxygenated water to thrive. Higher stocking densities of fish can lead to greater oxygen consumption, necessitating efficient aeration systems.
Shrimp:  Shrimp, particularly in high-density farming, also have significant oxygen requirements. They are more sensitive to low DO levels and are prone to stress and mortality if oxygen levels drop too low. Shrimp farming often requires precise aeration management to maintain optimal DO levels.
Seaweed:  Seaweed and other aquatic plants contribute to oxygen production during the day through photosynthesis. However, they also consume oxygen at night through respiration. While seaweed can help increase DO levels during daylight, it can contribute to oxygen depletion at night, especially in densely planted ponds.
Understanding the oxygen requirements of the specific species stocked in your pond is crucial for effective DO management. Tailoring aeration and management practices to the needs of your stock helps create an environment conducive to growth and productivity.
Conclusion: Optimizing Dissolved Oxygen Levels for Aquaculture Success
Maintaining optimal dissolved oxygen levels in aquaculture ponds is essential for the health, growth, and productivity of aquatic species. By understanding and managing the factors that influence DO levels—such as temperature, salinity, organic matter, stocking density, and the type of marine life stocked—you can create a balanced and oxygen-rich environment that supports the well-being of your stock.
Neglecting DO management can lead to serious consequences, including stressed and weakened aquatic animals, reduced growth rates, increased disease susceptibility, and even mass mortalities. Therefore, adopting a proactive approach to monitoring and maintaining DO levels is critical. This includes regular use of aeration systems, careful feeding practices, and vigilant observation of water quality parameters.

Increasing Shrimp Nursery Efficiency with AirOxi Aeration Tubes
In the ever-evolving landscape of aquaculture, shrimp nurseries are becoming more and more important for survival of shrimps and getting sufficient return on investment from shrimp or prawn farming. And so ensuring the optimal conditions for shrimp nurseries is very important to success.
Adequate aeration plays a crucial role in creating a thriving environment for shrimp larvae, and among the various aeration methods available, diffused aeration using aeration tubes stands out as an innovative solution. This blog delves into the advantages of diffused aeration, specifically when utilizing AirOxi aeration tubes, shedding light on how this technology can improve shrimp nursery operations and help increase shrimp survival rates.
The Importance of Aeration in Shrimp Nurseries:
Maintaining proper oxygen levels is critical in shrimp nurseries, where factors such as high stocking densities and the rapid growth of larvae demand an increased oxygen supply. Inadequate aeration can lead to stress, slow growth, and increased vulnerability to diseases. To address these challenges, aquaculturists are turning to diffused aeration systems, and aeration tubes have emerged as a preferred choice due to their many benefits over traditional aeration methods.
Understanding Diffused Aeration:
Diffused aeration involves releasing fine bubbles into the water, creating a large surface area for efficient gas exchange. AirX tube Latest technology in aeration hoses now in India
Vannamei shrimp farms need a very efficient aeration system. The bubbles of a diffused aeration system need to be very small. Especially for large farms – more than 2 acres in size, the aeration required is quite intense. Farmers usually provide aeration only on the periphery using paddle wheel aerators or diffused aeration using blowers and aeration tube. But for large farms of 2 acres and more, aeration needs to be much more uniform and there cannot be any dark areas where DO is low, so providing aeration only in the corners with a paddle wheel aeration system or with a regular aeration is not sufficient.
Such issues are faced in cage farms also, where the distance of the floating service area is very far from the actual cages and fish. Cage farming in India is a relatively nascent industry. Due to the natural flow of water in reservoir and ocean, most water parameters are balanced naturally. There is no sludge or waste to worry about and most of the time the dissolved oxygen, ammonia, pH etc are within the limits because natural flow of water and the eco system ensures they are suitable for marine life.
However there are still times when the dissolved oxygen levels within the cage go very low. And at such times a suitable aeration system is needed. In cage farms submersible or paddle wheel aerators cannot be used. And diffused aeration with aeration tubes and blower is not efficient since the depth of cages is around 10 feet or 3 meters. Hence low pressure fine bubble diffusers along with blowers are needed in such situations.
Identifying the aeration needs of farmers, AirOxi is proud to offer the AirX tube. It is a special double walled EPDM tube which has very fine bubbles. The special 2 perforated wall structure ensures that that bubbles and pressure are proper throughout the length of the tube.
Any standard aeration tube can be used upto a maximum of 3 meter length because the pressure drop is quite high. But with the AirX tubes, the pressure drop is so low that it can be easily installed upto 20 meter length and still get uniform fine bubbles all along the length of the tube.
The material of construction EPDM is inert and this tube can be used in salt water and fresh water as well as RAS (recirculating Aquaculture System).
The tubes have very fine bubble that release at very low pressure so this product is ideal for grow out shrimp farms, RAS and transportation. However the water movement provided is very low so they are not very suitable for nurseries or biofloc.
Since the bubbles are very fine, the SOTR (Standard Oxygen Transfer Rate) is quite high. This makes them the ideal diffuser to use with oxygen cylinder and oxygen concentrators / generators.
The technical details for AirX tube are given below.
AirX tube technical details
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Material – EPDM double walled tube. Inert and safe to use with most liquids
Dimensions – Inside diameter – 12 mm. Outside Diameter – 20 mm.
Compatible fittings - Fittings of ½”/ 16 mm
Standard roll length – 100 mtr
Usage - Compatible for wide range of industrial, commercial, aquaculture in fresh, brackish or salt water, as well as effluent and sewage applications
Air Flow – Optimum – 5 LPM / 0.3 m3/hr. Maximum – 15 LPM / 0.9 m3/h3
Holes – Micro holes all around periphery and in both inner and outer tubes. Hole size is 0.2 mm
Usage length – Flexible and can be made into any grid or shape. Maximum length with single injection of air will depend on depth of installation and air pressure. Due to double wall holes, long lengths are possible with minimum reduction in pressure along the length unlike in single wall diffuser.

AirOxi®  Spider – a versatile aeration device for shrimp farming
Shrimp farming is a very complex aquaculture system. The common shrimps farmed in India are:
Pacific white shrimp (L vannamei or P vannamei)
Giant tiger prawn (P. monodon)
Shrimps respond immediately to changes in dissolved oxygen levels
Although shrimps are scavengers and will eat almost anything, the farmed species are very sensitive to environment factors and micro- organisms. They are very susceptible to viral and bacterial infection, unlike the native fish which are a lot more resistant and hence easier to manage in a farm environment.
Even within the 2 major species farmed in India, L Vannamei is the more common species and they are very susceptible to the smallest changes in the environment like temperature, salinity, pH, stocking density, dissolved oxygen ammonia, salinity, etc.
Like all aquatic animals, the dissolved oxygen (DO) levels in the water have the highest impact on survival, immunity and growth of shrimps. Their entire metabolism changes in the presence of sufficient DO.
All other parameters remaining same, when proper dissolved is made available, feeding becomes better and faster. In shrimp farms, the difference in feeding time has been observed to reduce from 45 minutes to 10 minutes for the same amount of feed. This shows a huge difference in the health and growth of the shrimps.
Types of aeration for shrimp culture
There are many ways to provide aeration in an aquaculture farm. But the basic principle is the same – mix air and water together and this will dissolve some oxygen in the water.
take in air or oxygen and pass it through.
The paddle wheel aerators do it by splashing water in the air and this causes the droplets to dissolves some oxygen in the droplets as the come down. However these drops of water are very large and the surface area available is very less so the volume of oxygen that dissolves is very less
Submersible aerators like jet aerators are the other way to aerate shrimp and fish ponds. These suck in air from the atmosphere and pass it at high speed just below the surface of the water. The AirOXi®    Squid and AirOxi®    Scorpion are examples of this. These are better than paddle wheel aerators but still the velocity of air is so fast that the time available for oxygen to dissolve in the water
To get a proper exchange of air with water, and hence proper dissolution of oxygen, there are 3 things that are needed
Slow speed of air in water to increase time of air in the water
Small bubbles to increase surface area available for dissolution
Long distance of travel by the bubbles in the water so time available is longer
Aeration tubes are designed so that the bubble size is small and some special aeration tubes are designed so that pressure is low and the tubes work well with both, root blower and ring blower. The aeration tubes like AirOxi®   are also designed so that they reduce the pressure and velocity of air coming from the blower, and so the bubbles rise up at a slow speed.
And finally to ensure that the distance is long enough to dissolve more oxygen, the aeration tubes must be installed near the bottom of the pond, ideally not more than 15 inches above the pond bottom.
The AirOxi®   Spider is a ready to use self sinking aeration device that is only 5 inches high and is very easy to assemble and use. It has one inlet of 0.5 inch and 6 outlets of 0.5 inch
These outlets are designed so that the high velocity and high pressure of air from the blower is divided properly and reduces the speed of bubbles in the water, and also breaks them into smaller very fine bubbles.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
All these 3 conditions for good aeration in shrimp aquaculture ponds are met when one uses the AirOxi®  Spider. However if any shrimp farmer wishes to change the height of the AirOxi®   Spider, the lid is reversible and that will add another 2 inches to the height. More height can be added by tying the box of the spider with concrete blocks.
The box is hollow and weight can be put in it as per the water depth and buoyancy.
However if any farm requires customized height adjustment, then they can use just the 6 way of the self sinking aeration device and use any wooden stick to attach the tubes to this 6 way connector
Tumblr media
AirOxi®  spider is very versatile
Any type and size of aeration tube with inside hole of 0.5 inch / 16 mm can be attached to it
The length of aeration tube that can be used with it can be changed from 1 mtr to 3 mtrs
Tumblr media
The weight that is filled inside the empty Spider box can be changed as required
The height at which the aeration tubes are releasing air can be changed as needed
The pressure and velocity of air can be changed as required – slow air for high aeration, and fast air for high movement of water
This self sinking aeration device can be installed in any type of pond – nursery, growout, biofloc / BFT or  RAS
It can be installed in any type of water body – mud bottom pond, PE lined, Cement tanks, HDPE tanks, Fibre tanks.
The AirOxi ®  Spider will work with any blower – Diaphragm Air Pump, Ring blower, Two stage ring blower or Root blower
This versatility, ease of use and ease of assembly makes AirOXi (R)  Spider one of the best aeration devices available for aquaculture today.

Best aeration for fresh water fish culture
Fish culture in India is of various species – Tilapia, Mangur, Rohu, Catla, Mrigal etc. Most are fresh water fish and are mouth breathing, so it seems that when one does fish culture, there is not much need of artificial aeration. Considering the low density of farming and species of fish, as well as the long duration of growth, natural aeration is sufficient in many cases.
However, there are many times when artificial aeration is needed for even fish culture. Some of these situations can be:
-        High density fish farming where the density of fish is many times than what is found in its natural habitat
-        Requirement of faster growth and large weight of the fish in a shorter time
-        Balancing various parameters like pH, ammonia, phosphates, nitrates, nitrites, etc.
With low Dissolved Oxygen (DO) in the water, fish growth will slow down. The water parameters that oxygen helps regulate by oxidation – often called the Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) will also suffer. As a result the sludge, extra feed, waste, nitrates, hydrogen sulfide, phosphates, ammonia etc. will not breakdown further and cause problems in the water.
Low dissolved oxygen would be first seen as increased time taken to finish the feed by the fish. Later one would notice that the fish are not increasing their feed intake and finally one would notice that the fish are not growing as expected. In the meantime if there is a disease, it will spread very fast due to low immunity of the fish. With low DO there is a high chance of infection and even the entire culture failing.
Although aeration and high dissolved oxygen in fish farming is important, the biggest challenge is that the cost of production needs to be very low. The price of fish and its fluctuation and long culture periods do not allow for high costs of aeration.
So a good aeration system for fresh water fish farm would need to be low cost as well as efficient.
One of the best methods for fish culture is diffused aeration. With this method the bubbles from the bottom of the pond or tanks provide high DO across the tanks or pond.  When tanks are used for fish farming – whether regular or biofloc fish farming (BFT), AirOxi Spider is often used because it is the most convenient and easy form or aeration.

Three Different types of aeration tubes as per your aeration requirement
There are many types of aqua farms and aquaculture systems. Some of the common ones are:
Hatchery, Nursery, Growout ponds with mud bottom, Growout ponds with PE lined bottom, Biofloc or BFT culture, RAS or Recirculating Aquaculture System, IPRS or In Pond Raceway System, Aquaculture in small tanks, Aquafarming in large tanks, etc.
Each of these system is designed and useful for different species, at different life stages of the aqua life, and for different climates and outputs. Hence their aeration needs are also vastly different.
Understanding this diverse needs of aqua farmers, AirOxi offers 3 distinct type of aeration tubes
1 – Very Fine Bubble – AirOxi Pearl
2 – Regular Medium size Bubbles – AirOxi High efficiency tube
3 – Large bubbles – AirOxi XTRA
As you can see clearly from these high resolution images taken with a special 100X zoom camera -
All 3 types have different grain structure. However they are all very uniform within the tube
The material used in all 3 is of extremely high quality and durability as expected from AirOxi. And they are all suitable based on the kind of aeration required.
Ø  AirOxi Pearl – is a tube with a very smooth finish and has very fine bubbles – 0.2 to 0.5 mm size – ideal for high aeration, low movement like in RAS. The pressure required to operate this is higher than for regular tubes.
Ø  AirOxi high efficiency tube – Medium rough finish, with a bubble size 0.5 to 1.0 mm – ideal for most applications like Growout ponds, tanks, nurseries, and IPRS etc. – gives high aeration and moderate water movement with moderate frequency of cleaning
Ø  AirOxi Xtra – Rough tube with big bubbles for extra water movement and low aeration, and low maintenance. Ideal for Biofloc or BFT – with a Bubble size 1.0 mm and bigger. It works on very low pressure blowers, so is especially suited for single stage ring blowers.
Since the pressure required by each type is different we do not recommend that you mix and match when using these different tubes.
AirOxi also offers other specialized tubes like the AirOxi STAR (for biofloc ponds), the AirOxi NC-16 (for one time low cost use in mud bottom ponds) and the Airoxi – 22 , a special low pressure tube for use with ring blowers.

Aeration system that is a reliable method for your aquaculture aeration needs
How are AirOxi tubes are better than cheaper rubber tubes and International aeration tubes.
Rigorous quality testing of every coil of  AirOxi aeration tube – you can watch our testing videos on our YouTube channel or contact us for more information
Continuous feedback from our customers and farmers on the product quality and the various suggestions they have for improvement
Research on latest materials and technologies available to develop new products for the diffused aeration industry
Based on such feedback we have continuously developed new products for Aeration. For instance we have specialized aeration tubes and aeration system for Biofloc culture
Biofloc aeration is very different from aeration in growout ponds
Aeration required is intense because the BOD (Biological Oxygen Demand) is substantially higher due to probiotics and phytoplankton     that feed on the sludge – to ensure the carbon-nitrogen cycle is balanced.     The dissolved oxygen required is hence quite high as compared to grow out     ponds.
Aeration needed in biofloc culture (BFT) is  almost 50% more than what is needed in regular earthen bottom ponds
Usually, Biolfoc aquaculture is done in tanks or small-sized ponds, often indoors or covered in shade, in order to manage them better. This results in a smaller surface area of the water exposed to the atmosphere and hence the natural dissolution of oxygen is less.
Moreover sunlight and hence algae giving  natural oxygen is also very less, so artificial aeration needs to be much more than in grow out ponds. And the traditional methods of paddlewheel aerator or such surface aerators cannot be used in tanks
The floc needs to be constantly moved and the water movement needed is high. So the diffused aeration needs to also agitate the water. Hence the diffused aeration system cannot be very fine as done in hatcheries, otherwise, it may give good dissolved oxygen but still, the performance may not be suitable for BFT
To help provide the most efficient aeration, AirOxi has developed and launched 3 special aeration tubes :
AirOxi NC – 16 mm
AirOxi – NC 16 mm aeration tube is made by creating precise holes at equal distances in a thin-walled tube. The bubbles are about 50% bigger than the high-quality AirOxi tubes, but these bubbles quickly break down in the sludge and floc in the water. As a result, the overall Dissolved Oxygen is still good, and the large bubbles give the water a high movement.
Due to the good water movement, and the big bubble size that breaks down with floc and sludge, it is ideal for Biofloc and mud bottom ponds
AirOxi – NC 16 mm is
Lightweight
High airflow – 2 m3/hour or 30 LPM per meter
Large bubble size that breaks down in the presence of sludge and floc
Low cost – can be treated as a one-season product
Low wall thickness making it easy to clean IF at all it gets blocked
Moderate SOTR – oxygen dissolving capacity is about 20% less than AirOxi aeration tube
Very good water movement provided by the bubbles
Works at very low pressure and can be used with root blower, ring blower or even air pumps
AirOxi Star
The proprietary registered / patented design of AirOxi tube star especially made for aquaculture provides three major advantageous highlights:
Aeration with minimum cleaning and blocking
High movement of water
Reduced back pressure on the blower motor
The tube has crests and troughs along the length – it’s unique design makes sure that very fine bubbles are released from the troughs and not from the crests.
This special design offers air at greater speed from the trough in the decreased thickness area. This ensures no air flows out from the greater thickness location of the crest. Because of this special design, air float comes out at a higher pace and as a result, offers the required motion of water in BFT aquaculture offering better aeration. This additionally affects the decreased choking and blockading of the aeration tube, as a consequence lowering the frequency of cleaning and also offers superior aquaculture aeration.
And since the air is released in a smaller surface area, it comes out with pressure and provides the movement needed in biofloc tank.
 AirOxi XTRA
AirOxi Xtra is a specialized rough finished tube with a large bubble size and 25 mm outside diameter.
It is becoming the product of choice for many biofloc consultants who see the benefit of good water movement and moderate aeration. AirOxi Xtra has a large bubble size which reduces oxygen dissolution by about 20% as compared to the other high-efficiency AirOxi Aeration tubes.
However, the water in biofloc farms has a very high number of suspended particles – sludge, waste, probiotics, etc. As a result, although the bubbles are bigger at the exit from the tube, they breakdown almost instantly and provide good SOTR and oxygen dissolution. Air flows out in bigger bubbles allowing greater movement. The flow of air is 30 LPM / 2m3 per hour per meter which is even though the same as the regular aeration tube but with a bigger micro bubble size, so the holes don’t get blocked soon and maintenance required is less.
Since the tube blocks very little and has high positive pressure, the maintenance is low. Hence with greater functionality it is one of the most preferred choices among the fish farmers.
Overview of our Quality
Every roll of AirOxi tube goes through 8 rigorous quality checks of dimensions, flow rate, and material properties
Let’s take you through the various challenges that our product has to meet before it reaches you:
Our AirOxi tube products are ISO 9001:2015 certified, which ensures meeting all the international quality standard tests that product certification requires.
All AirOxi tubes are RoHS certified – They do not contain any Hazardous material as defined by the RoHS standard
We ensure fittings and accessories are available  for all models and sizes
Every roll is tested for the flow rate of a minimum of 50 LPM / 2 m3/hr at a depth of 1 mtr in our test tanks
We regularly install various batches of tubes in our test tanks and check which formulations of raw materials work best
These quality testing and maintenance processes provide us an opportunity to bring our customer’s AirOxi tubes, which are unparalleled in quality metrics and perform far better than those of the Chinese knock-offs that are available at a similar or little cheaper price.
That is why we always suggest please check the AirOxi QR code mark before buying tubes for your aquaculture or hydroponics requirements. To save a few rupees, customers often end up spending thousands of rupees in replacing the tubes, again and again, so thoroughly ensure you get the value of your money’s worth from the product you purchase.

A simple way to reduce cost in shrimp culture
Current international shrimp prices are quite low, due to many factors. Import restrictions from China, low cost export of shrimp to USA from South American countries like Ecuador, etc. Moreover cost of feed and labour has increased drastically over the last couple of years, while selling price has reduced drastically.  Both these are causing enormous pressure of cost reduction on the aquaculture farmer, especially the shrimp farmer.
As a farmer, you don’t have control on the selling price of shrimp which is largely dependent on international prices and decided by processing units.
However you can control the input costs.
The 3 largest input costs for a shrimp farm are:
-        Cost of feed
-        Cost of seed
-        Cost of aeration
Good quality feed and good quality seed cannot be compromised. However the cost of aeration can be reduced to a large extent – by almost 60% - if proper equipment is used. Diffused aeration is very often found to be 3 times more energy efficient than paddle wheel aerators.
Most large fish and shrimp farms use paddle wheel or similar surface aeration methods. Such aerators spend almost 75% of their energy in moving the water, rather than aeration. They are really water movement devices, although one calls them aerators.
Artificial aeration is efficient only when the surface area available for interaction between the air and water is high, and the time of contact is long. With paddle wheel aerators, the drops of water are quite big – almost 5 to 20 mm big. And the splash down in a very short time.
Compared to this, diffused aeration provides very fine micro bubbles in the water using highly efficient airoxi tube and blowers. The bubbles are about 1 mm in diameter. And they further breakdown into even finer bubbles in salt water used for shrimp culture. In fact the floc in the ponds and nurseries increases the efficiency of aeration, so diffused aeration using blowers and aeration tube increases in efficiency as the culture time increases.
A comparative table of efficiency is given below. As you can see – blower and airoxi tube / aeration tube diffused aeration is highly efficient and the high SOTR (Standard Oxygen Transfer Rate) is almost 3 times that of paddle wheel aerator. This makes the SAE (Standard Aeration Efficiency) very high and translates into saving of electricity cost of almost 60%.
And this is after considering that you use the paddle aerators to move water – but only 1 hour x 4 times a day.
To ensure a good balance, use the paddle wheels only as water moving equipment, and not for aeration. Let the blower and aeration tubes give you the required aeration.
You can even calculate your aeration requirement for your shrimp nursery or shrimp farm using the online aeration calculator on www.airoxi.com/calculator

Spider is a very versatile product from AirOxi
AirOxi launched the Spider, a ready to use aeration device few years ago. Since then many improvements and modifications have taken place.
All such changes are helping the aeration in aquaculture ponds to become more and more efficient.
Over the years AirOxi has modified the design to make it stronger, to allow it to take more weight and fill more weight. Such design changes makes the spider very versatile and useful in various high density fish farming and use it for aquaculture aeration in nurseries, shrimp nurseries, for biofloc aeration and for RAS aeration.
The 6 way connector at the top can be used to connect airoxi aeration tube in various ways as demonstrated in the picture here. The size of airoxi tube can be also changed from the standard 25 mm to 22 mm, 38 mm or 19 mm
-          It can be used as 8 inch x 6 pieces , totalling 1.2 mtr of airoxi tube
-          It can be looped to use a length of 0.6 mtr x 3 pieces – 1.8 mtr
-          It can also be made into a flower shape to use a total of 8 inch x 6 pieces + 7 inch x 6 pieces , totalling to 2.30 mtr of AirOxi tube
Inlet nipple can be changed to ¾” (0.75 inch) inlet or standard 16 mm (0.5 inch) inlet.
Spider is now available to buy online on the Amazon, Flipkart and also on airoxi website.
Even after so many years, Spider continues to be the most ideal and versatile ready to use aeration diffuser for aquaculture and fish farming, shrimp farming.
