the arknights besties haven't said anything yet but. viviana and virtuosa are lesbians. they're sapphics. they're going through the horrors together and they're going to kiss each other on the mouth once they're in my account.

It’s simultaneously fascinating and frustrating how perception of a character can be so thoroughly warped via memes and hearsay and even continue to be so despite more and more lore being put out to explain them to people who just don’t listen.

There’s a good chance that any random person you talk to will think Arturia is some kind of psychopathic serial killer who persuades people to kill themselves for fun. That she’s an unhinged criminal who indiscriminately uses her Arts on anyone and everyone for shits and giggles. Because she’s evil and wants to see the world burn.

When that is not her character… at all.

Bizarrely enough, both fans and detractors exhibit similar behaviors. They over-exaggerate her criminality. Fans play her up as some sort of AK Joker. While detractors think she's objectively a worse person compared to people like W and Kal’tsit who bombed civilians and essentially spearheaded a Sarkaz genocide in the past, respectively.

She gets 1-2 manhua detailing her past and motivations, as well as an event delving deeper into her character, but the most widespread and popular interpretation of her continues to be this flanderization of "the devil on your shoulder urging you to do bad things" for her own amusement.

Hindsight is 20/20, but even with additional lore giving context and clarification, I still see it. Even people who aren't familiar with AK know her solely as a "murdergirl". It's breached containment.

Hortus de Escapismo is where it started. And I'm genuinely wondering how people came away with such a read on her character. If they saw/read her doing something, in a bubble, without taking into consideration everything else going on. Curious.

Now that AK EN's twitter released the files of the other incidents involving Arturia, I can confirm the thoughts I had since I finished the event that I think it was weird how people hyped her up as more intentionally malicious then she actually is.

Like, I was expecting her to be similar to Elbana given how certain people described the incidents/her actions but instead she's more like....Kjera? (not that my favorite goddess is evil just that both kinda mostly watch on the sidelines and help other characters realize their goals)

If you're asking for "meta" picks, then the strongest are going to be Ray, Arturia, Ela, Shu, and especially Degenbrecher who is so ungodly strong I believe she will eventually challenge the dominance of the Mlynar-Surtr-Chen Alter trio. She's that good.

Arturia is pretty straightforward: if you thought Valarqvin's 12,000 pseudo-True Damage and -50% ATK debuff is good (and it is, you could defang Clip Cliff without using Heat Vents just by constantly alternating Tank skills and Necrosis on him) then get Arturia (I'm forgetting her actual operator codename). Along with Ebenholz's new delta module, you can wreak a lot of havoc on virtually every enemy in the game, as no enemy has Elemental Resistance yet.

Ray is a little difficult as you need to deploy her sandbeast pet as well as her, but if you've played with Coldshot you would know that Hunters basically act like physical Mystic Casters. Ray's DPH is very high, enough that some would argue that Schwarz's fiercest competition isn't actually Pozy, but Ray, who preys on the same enemy types that she does. Just like Schwarz, she's not someone you really /need/, but if you insist on punching through armor via high DPH rather than through Arts damage, Ray's your girl.

Ela is a trapmaster like Dorothy. Unlike Dorothy, Ela's module foregoes the crit traps in favor of letting Ela deploy on melee tiles and place her mines on ranged tiles. This is significant because Ela's mines are the only Trapmaster mines that trigger when someone steps near, rather than on the mine itself. This increased versatility in unit placement serves Ela well, as she's the only Trapmaster who is designed around her autoattacks instead of her traps. Ela does a lot of attack damage on enemies debuffed by her traps, making her own positioning just as important as her traps are.

Does Shu powercreep Saria? Well not really. Is she still ridiculously busted and both the most interesting and unique operator to come in the next 6 months? Absolutely. Though lacking Saria's bulk and simplicity, Shu's ricefields act as both HP regen (heals unhealable units lul) and Shelter source, making her decently tanky in her own right while also protecting allies from damage. Her 2nd talent also showers the entire fucking team in free buffs (if team has 3 operators of different classes, +12%HP, if 3 of the same class, +12 ASPD, if 4 Sui are in the team, +12% ATK and +1 SP every 4 seconds) which honestly feels a lot to me like a "Shit she has to compete with Saria" panic button. Her most interesting feature however, is her S3 turning her rice fields into portals for enemies, forcibly teleporting them back to the first rice field they touch after moving 2 tiles. The possibilities of this skill are sky-high (example: the rice portals preserve momentum, meaning you can constantly push an enemy through a ricefield tile to build a ridiculous speed) and make Shu my pick for the most valuable and interesting operator to look forward to.

Degenbrecher is like what if we had a new Mlynar but a Swordmaster instead of a Liberator, so unlike Mlynar she actually blocks and fights while her skill is still charging. Press S3 to destroy everything in sight and remind Chen why she became a support and make Irene question why she's even here. Unlike the other Swordmasters, her S3 charges based on time rather than by attacks, so even if there are no enemies onscreen, Degenbrecher's S3 will still get ready. I truly wonder what HG was thinking completely removing Irene from the game like that, but our poor seagull at least has a second module to look forward to (unlike Carnelian after Lin).

I remember back when I knew a guy for less than a year he was casually showing me Blue Archive CGs. This is technically not a normal thing to do with a girl you’ve only recently been friends with, especially when I had little to no knowledge about gacha games. It’s been almost a year since then and we’ve graduated 6th form, but recently I’ve sent him your infamous Dusk, Mizuki and Arturia cursed post. He reeled back in pain. Thank you dreamer for helping me in my conquest for revenge (I should also mention that thanks to your AK posting I got further hooked into the game and consequently I had more things to talk about with him; he’s one of my closest friends now <3)

Oh, this one has everything: The Three-Act Structure, unorthodox but endearing first encounters, gacha, a time skip, vengeance, cursed content, mention of my beautiful wife, and friendship.

Hortus De Escapismo might honestly be one of the most depressing events that ak has written for me. Just because unlike most of the other events that focused on structural issue like near light we can at least see progress being made to make things even slightly better. But here it's just none of that even without oren arturia and the seaborne bishop everything was already going to shit and sarkaz were making themselves 2nd class citizens for awhile, and it a society that was still inherently divided between sankta and non sankta even if better then laterano.

The guy running that abbot had really good intentions but didn't really have any long term plans for his city besides exists so the divide never truly went away and only got worse as their situation did. Like this can even be seen just in how the sarkaz and sankta live, the sankta live in the abbot while the sarkaz essentially live in slums despite being "equal" neither are having a great time here but the sarkaz just have it way worse in every way.

In a lot of ways this event felt like an answer to the questions asked in guide ahead both for good and for bad which I actually think is a really interesting choice for them to do even if it's depressing to see happen.

Texlapp: Yeah, it's the core of their characters - simulatenously heartbreaking, thrilling, hot and absolutely ridiculous when it needs to be, one of the best pairings in the game!! Even if you don't think of them romantically, their story in Siracusano is just soooo rich and well-written. Credit to the bloom into you author for the art I used, the fact she drew texlapp fanart is crazy to me

The Followers: One of those pairings that just Makes Sense. I'm sure I'll have a lot more angst about Nightingale and Shining especially when Ch. 13 comes out, but for now it's one that always makes me happy to see even if I'm not super dedicated to it Arturia/Mostima: While not as interesting to me as the Arturia/Saria proposal I got earlier, still very juicy - I think the fact that Arturia seems much more malevolent but isn't fallen whereas Mostima is at worst mean & is is a really fun contrast. I think it'd really depend on the context they were placed into to understand how their relationship would develop - willing allies? Enemies? Unwilling allies? Is Mostima fighting for Laterano while Arturia is still an enemy of the state? There's a lot to chew on

some recent highlights, on a positive-ish note

won my 50/50 for furina, she’s been a blast to use and i love her dearly as a character

still barely playing lost word, but forget all the new and rare characters i’ve managed to get lately—i finally achieved ultimate medi status

spent myself totally dry trying to squeeze just one more 6 star out of the banner but i got my pity high enough and sure enough mama bird came home, continuing my caster collection. limited banner complete once again. will work on rebuilding my funds

ryouryou was a long-awaited and extremely hard fought battle of at least 470ish sq and entire days of grinding quests and such to scrounge up sq after spending the ~300 i had, but they’re home, and i’m very happy. probably grailing them to 100 when i can. feels oddly refreshing to be starting my savings from zero again

might make a post about my gudaguda thoughts or maybe a highlights reel of my screaming on discord because it’s been a fantastic event with good food. i feel bad so much of my game blogging these days is just showing off my pulls but i’ve been getting so engrossed in gameplay that i forget to blog or i just keep it confined to the friend gaming server lol. fgo has genuinely kept me sane the past week

future plans: navia genshin, argenti hsr, and hope for reed alter ak to spook me. not really looking for anyone for certain till swire alter or arturia, maybe?

Doing some self-reflection and I think... one of the reasons why I'm getting so fond so quickly of Arturia is because she reminds me of Kirsten in a way.

Or rather, the circumstances surrounding her as a character remind me of Kirsten. The reactions they elicit out of people.

More specifically: fandom has the most obnoxious tendency to play up and exaggerate their respective faults and misdeeds into caricature levels of Irredeemably Evil, With No Sympathetic Qualities Whatsoever, and that annoys me to no end. There's so much nuance lost. So much black-and-white thinking applied to characters who are, at worst, gray.
