SCOOP: Yash Raj Films to distribute Akshay Kumar-Tiger Shroff starrer Bade Miyan Chote Miyan in overseas territories
Around 1 ½ months are left for the release of Bade Miyan Chote Miyan and the excitement is considerable. The film has caught attention due to the coming together of Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff for the first time, mass appeal, grandeur and stylized action scenes, as visible in the teaser and BTS video released by the makers. And now, Bollywood Hungama has learned that besides Akshay and Tiger, Bade Miyan Chote Miyan will also bring two prominent production houses for the first time.
Tumblr media
A trade source told Bollywood Hungama, “Yash Raj Films (YRF) is all set to distribute Bade Miyan Chote Miyan in overseas markets. The film is produced by Vashu Bhagnani and Jackky Bhagnani of Pooja Entertainment and is the first time that they have joined hands with YRF for distribution. They are happy to have Aditya Chopra’s reputed banner on board to release their film in foreign lands and they are confident that they’ll get the best of screens.”
An industry insider commented, “Bade Miyan Chote Miyan releases on Eid. This is a great time for cinema as families come out in large numbers to catch the latest flick in the Middle East and other big markets like the USA, UK, Canada, Australia/New Zealand etc. As a result, the film has a chance to score and with YRF coming on board; they’ll surely give the film a great release that it rightfully deserves.”
YRF Distribution has distributed several films made by outside banners over the years. Some of these movies are Dunki (2023), Jawan (2023), Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar (2023), Kuttey (2023), Drishyam 2 (2022), Uunchai (2022), Runway 34 (2022), Dabangg 3 (2019), Zero (2018), Race 3 (2018) etc. For films like Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar, Kuttey etc, YRF was the distributor not just overseas but also in India.
Besides Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff, Bade Miyan Chote Miyan also stars Prithviraj Sukumaran, Sonakshi Sinha, Manushi Chhillar and Alaya F. It is directed by Ali Abbas Zafar. Incidentally, Ali began his career with Yash Raj Films and the collaboration also marks his reunion with the banner.

I didn't feel like making this post to Letterboxd. In December of last year, I met the ICONIC Anurag Kashyap along with the actors of film he'd come to promote at IIT Bombay for Moodi. The film was obviously Almost Pyaar. The culture surrounding the film was woven through 7 years of finding its footing through financing, pre-production and shooting. The music as much as the film fails to grasp the roots of Gen Z media. Maybe the film is made for the masses, but this isn't a Gen Z film by any standards.
Gen Z here has been portrayed as the shallowest form with no personality beyond the grasp of social media. I don't know, maybe it is that Alaya F plays a minor in both iterations of her role which shows her shallow nature due to her immaturity. The bits where they tried to show her true nature against her own characterization fell short because they felt like an afterthought. I don't remember what either of Karan's characters are called but I remember asking myself whether I relate to him on any level being a Gen Z man. The answer was a resounding No. I don't relate to any of the characters in either timeline. The most interesting character DJ Mohabbat brilliantly played by Vicky Kaushal wasn't in any of the promotions or material till the release. Only Kaushal felt like the only actor in this film who was trying to make do with what he got.
I feel like Kashyap with this film was trying to understand a generation that he clearly hasn't been able to. Maybe it's the young people of today who are to be blamed for this heinous film. But I'd say Kashyap's lack of form in recent years - trying to make films for a new generation might be another of the reasons he isn't able to work out a proper strategy.
Anurag, I know you're never gonna see this. But if you do, check your Instagram dms. I asked you out to movie date. Pls response -><- thanks for reading.

So I knew from the moment this movie was announced that this wasn't going to be a remake of the original (which was then confirmed by the trailer). Which, to some extent was a good thing, because these guys aren't going to be Govinda/Amitabh. However, now that we've seen this - maybe that would've been more fun. Not that this is 'bad,' per se, but it's excitement factor really is not what you would expect for something of this scale, and with the names attached to this project.
It feels like every action movie nowadays has to be super grandiose - taking on the world, etc. It's the same trap that the MCU has sorta fallen into (Spider-Man movies aside), and even movies like Pathaan and Jawan have taken on this crazy approach. Maybe that's what makes movies like Mard Ko Dard Nahin Hota, or Thelma, or whatever, more fun - the small scale keeps things somewhat contained. Bollywood's love of "ex-soldier (or whatever) who feels slighted and decides that the answer is to destroy everything" is both too real (as we sit here on independence day) and like ... a lot. How does no one else have any other story?
Alaya F's intro/initial bits are super annoying - but, at least (I guess) not in the same way Tara Sutaria's character in Heropanti 2 was annoying. Also, thankfully, it also gets sorta toned down - though that maybe also just be because she disappears for half the movie. She, and Manushi Chhillar do get a couple of instances to be pretty badass - though, of course, most of that is saved for our heroes. They do thrown in the BMCM 'twist' of duplicates, though in a slightly weird way here - and definitely not with the fun that the duplicates brought in the original. Sonakshi Sinha shows up pretty much to play, or become, damsel in distress over and over again. Hell, in that final sequence, they keep cutting away from the action to focus on her for a second, as if to say "look at this drugged up/knocked out girl, not even waking up to help." It's ridiculous, made more-so by the fact that it isn't even leading to a moment where she does wake up and do anything during the fight sequence.
The bit where the movie names come from is ... well, meh. The songs are, quite honestly, trash - even the 'remix' of the title song (though saying that is an insult to all the remixes Bollywood has given us lately, and that's saying something cuz most of them have been downright bad) from the original, though the theme music that plays during many of the fight sequences is not bad. The whole 'literally pull a manual override switch' at the end is just dumb. The concept of putting so much power into the hands of one person, as our villain wanted to do when he on the correct side of that 'genius/psychopath' lines that he mentioned, is straight-up dumb.
The banter between our leads had its moments of fun, but beyond that, the movie just really meh'd along until is was over. I think Bollywood needs to tone down the grand scale of their movies (not necessarily the money that goes into them/the effects, but just how wide-reaching the villains always are). Why can't be just have the bad guy be someone within a town doing small-scale activities - whatever happened to that. Enough of evil politicians and traitors and terrorists and corrupt politicians - lets just go back to smaller-time criminals doing smaller-time things, please.
And for the love of god, please stop remixing the old songs into new trash.

*Trailer Launch Event of "Srikanth - Aa Raha Hai Sabki Aankhein Kholne" Leaves Audiences Feeling Inspired!*

The trailer launch event of T-Series and Chalk N Cheese Films' much-anticipated film, "Srikanth - Aa Raha Hai Sabki Aankhein Kholne," held in Mumbai, had audiences feeling inspired. Present at the launch was protagonist Rajkummar Rao, along with Sharad Kelkar, director Tushar Hiranandani, and producers Bhushan Kumar and Nidhi Parmar Hiranandani. However, the highlight of the evening undoubtedly was the presence of real-life hero, Srikanth Bolla and his wife Veera Swathi, whose inspirational journey serves as the cornerstone of the film.
What also made this event a highlight was that T-Series took the Government initiative ahead and also played an audio trailer for "Srikanth- Aa Raha Hai Sabki Aankhein Kholne" at the trailer launch. This came to action after the recent guidelines regarding accessibility standards in the Public Exhibition of feature films in theaters for people with hearing and visual impairments were issued by PM Narendra Modi and the I&B Ministry. This is the first time a film trailer has also been played in an audio format in a theater.
"Srikanth - Aa Raha Hai Sabki Aankhein Kholne" promises to be an extraordinary journey, encapsulating themes of determination, resilience, and triumph. The trailer offered a tantalizing glimpse into the remarkable portrayal of Srikanth Bolla's indomitable spirit by the versatile Rajkummar Rao. The trailer not only showcases the journey of a visually impaired man but also a story of his unique character and wittiness and how he goes on to make his disability his strength and not a weakness.
Directed by Tushar Hiranandani, "Srikanth" is set to deliver an unforgettable cinematic experience, offering audiences an intimate glimpse into the extraordinary life of a true hero. Alongside Rajkummar Rao, the film boasts a stellar ensemble cast including Jyotika, Alaya F, and Sharad Kelkar, each contributing their unique magic to the narrative.

This list includes a list of 5 anthologies coming out between now, and the end of the year! I am based in the UK and therefore all dates and relevant links I have found reflect this!
In These Hallowed Halls: A Dark Academia Anthology
Published by Titian Books on September 12th
Look I have not really enjoyed any dark academia I have read, nor have read from any of these authors so this is a risky choice. However, this is the season for dark academia and I am intrigued. This collection of 12 stories includes well known authors of the genre (sub genre?) Olivie Blake & M.L. Rio as well as David Bell, Susie Yang, Layne Fargo, J.T. Ellison, James Tate Hill, Kelly Andrew, Phoebe Qynne, Kate Weinberg, Helen Grant & Tori Bovalino.
Goodreads // Storygraph // Amazon //
Peach Pit
Published by Dzanc Books on September 12th
A collection of 16 stories about and following unlikeable, unhinged and monstrous women. Which basically sums up some of my favourite types of short story collections. With story description makes it sound similar to other collections such as Out There with a bit of Cursed Bunny. Edited by Molly Llewllyn and Kristel Buckly featuring stories from; Lauren Groff, Deesha Philyaw, K-Ming Chang, Megan Giddings, Sarah Rose Etter, Chaya Bhuvaneswar, Alicia Elliott, Chana Porter, Alice Ash, Maisy Card, Vanessa Chan, Chantal V. Johnson, Amada Leduc, Alison Rumfitt, Yah Yah Scholfield & Aliya Whitely.

Mermaids Never Drown
Published by Titian Press (UK) / Feiwel & Friends (US) on September 26th
From the team behind Vampires Never Get Old (which you may know about from the Story ‘First Kill’ which became a Netflix show) comes a second Young Adult collection exploring mermaids. Edited again by Zoraida Córdova and Natalie C. Parker and featuring many well known and beloved YA authors such as Darcie Little Badger, Kalynn Bayron, Preeti Chhibber, Rebecca Coffindaffer, Julie C. Dao, Maggie Tokuda-Hall, Adriana Herrera, June Hur, Katherine Locke, Kerri Maniscalco, Julie Murphy, Gretchen Schreiber, and Julian Winters. I am particularly excited to see Darcie Little Badger who I have loved both their long work (Elatose) and their short fiction (in Love Beyond Body Space and Time) and also I am intrigued by June Hur who I have only read Historical mystery work from so this will be a different spin.

Out There Screaming: An Anthology of New Black Horror
Published by Random House on October 3rd
An anthology I surprisingly only found out about when putting together this list. Out There Screaming is a collection of stories edited by writer and director Jordan Peele. It is an anthology of ‘all-new stories of Black horror, exploring not only the terrors of the supernatural but the chilling reality of injustice that haunts our nation. Alongside an introduction from Jordan Peele it also features stories by Erin E. Adams, Violet Allen, Lesley Nneka Arimah, Maurice Broaddus, Chesya Burke, P. Djèlí Clark, Ezra Claytan Daniels, Tananarive Due, Nalo Hopkinson, N.K. Jemisin, Justin C. Key, L.D. Lewis, Nnedi Okorafor, Tochi Onyebuchi, Rebecca Roanhorse, Nicole D. Sconiers, Rion Amilcar Scott, Terence Taylor, and Cadwell Turnbull.

Almost Pyaar With DJ Mohabbat Movie Review|
Almost Pyaar With DJ Mohabbat
There comes a phase in the career of filmmakers when they test their relevance in the mindscape of young hearts. It seems director Anurag Kashyap is passing through that phase. Years after he broke conventions of love stories with Dev D, his latest attempt at reinvention is a timely and well-meaning but scattered and almost laboured take on the perils of modern love across cultures.
Through two parallel narratives, where the same actors play the parts of almost lovers, the film addresses intolerance to relationships across faith and class, pernicious patriarchy, and the naivety of the internet generation. The entry of a caring but bigoted and homophobic elderly couple provides an unsettling sense of the generational gap. Add to it a layer of predatory homosexual behaviour and we have a series of strands that are disconcerting. The way Anurag attacks the idea of izzat is laudable and the dispensability of a Muslim in our society sends a chill down the spine.
Tumblr media
Having said that, Anurag could not turn genuine concerns into a compelling screenplay. He remains more of an observer than a participant and hence one could not emotionally integrate with the plight of the characters. In Love, Sex aur Dhoka, Dibakar Banerjee got out of this dilemma by using the concept of found footage. Here, it works out like a dramatic representation of a news story, playing out in sync with more than half a dozen Amit Trivedi numbers which seem to be genetic aberrations of compositions that we have appreciated in Dev D and Manmarziyaan. Only Mohabbat Se Hi Kranti Ayegi lasts in the head for it captures the core emotion of the film; it is only love that can keep hate at bay.
the setting is interesting and the premise is promising. In Dalhousie, Amrita (Alaya F) finds a buddy in the neighbourhood when she befriends Yakub (Karan Mehta). The inter-faith bond gets tested when the two leave their homes to watch a show by DJ Mohabbat (Vicky Kaushal). Amrita’s family which is already concerned about her talking to a Muslim treats the sudden disappearance of their daughter as a case of kidnapping and Love Jihad. In a parallel tale, Ayesha (Alaya F), the daughter of a shady Pakistani businessman falls head-over-heels for a reticent musician Harmeet (Karan Mehta). As Ayesha is only on the cusp of adulthood, the relationship is not legal and results in Harmeet getting humiliated in prison.
