Brandon Sanderson: That is reasonable. What I don't like to do is to confuse people on whether the cytoverse is in the cosmere, which it's not. But this would totally... I mean, in the Alcatraz books, someone at some point says that Alcatraz's mom killed Asmodean, which is a Wheel of Time joke, there's a mystery of who killed Asmodean. There's stuff like that.

So yes, you may name a slug "Hoid."

Any Alcatraz Versus the Evil Librarians fans still out there? The series means a lot to me and I'd love to chat about it (I'm a minor, so please be mindful of that!)

Just had an idea for an AVTEL OC backstory!!!

So we’re gonna start out with the fact that there are probably kids from surviving lines of Oculators in the Hushlands who, having lived there their whole lives, (and with everyone around them being brainwashed to boot,) don’t know they’re Oculators and will probably never know because who gives random Hushlanders access to Oculatory lenses, right?

And AVTEL is canonically being printed in the Free Kingdoms as an autobiography AND IN THE HUSHLANDS AS A FANTASY SERIES, right?

So let’s say one of those surviving Oculator-line kids got their hands on AVTEL at the bookstore and found themself really liking it.

So they read the rest.

They didn’t think anything of the factuality of the book until some undisclosed amount of time later they found a relative (distant either figuratively or literally) of theirs (who was, job description, a librarian) sneaking away somewhere, so the kid followed said relative into a room. There are lenses on the shelves, various panels and shards of glass in various tints and shades.

The relative leaves the room at some point, at which time the kid curiously picks up a pair of red tinted lenses, puts them on as a joke, and promptly falls backwards from the sheer light emitted by all the glass stuff in the room.

Shenanigans ensue.

Headcanon

Alcatraz and Rikers has unexplainably perfect vocals. Nobody ,even them, don't know how. Their vocals and voices are just beautiful

The soft sorrow contrasted between the sense of hope Alcatraz left with us in his afterword got be so bad oh my gosh. He's still burdened by his mistakes, by his failures, but he's trying to help us learn from them.

And then you contrast that with Bastille's afterword, where she says that yes, sometimes Alcatraz is a coward. But you can be both a coward and a hero. A hero is simply someone who gets back up again after they're beaten down. One who keeps trying.

Sanderson, you did it again. Thank you for this wonderful series.

What I hope you learn is that heroes aren't perfect people. We aren't all-powerful beings with absolute control. We are deeply flawed. We make mistakes, we act rashly, and sometimes we fail. Heroes, I think, are the people who get up and try anyway, even when we know the odds are stacked against us. Even when the world is broken beyond repair. We do our best to protect others, to keep bad things from happening, and to stand up to people who cause destruction and pain--even when we don't entirely succeed at it. And then afterward, we live with the consequences. Which may be the hardest part of all.

Also Alcatraz: Listens to other people, sees their struggles and insecurities, lifts them up and talks them through it. Gives incredible uplifting speeches. Saves his friends, family, and the entire Free Kingdoms multiple times.

Alcatraz: "I am such a detestable individual. A coward and a fool."
