Andiron, Hearthstone, Blitzen, and Inge: A Story Idea/Insanely Long Synopsis

I thought this idea was interesting:

Seven year-old Andiron was saved from an untimely death at the hands of a brunnmigi- at the cost of his elder brother's innocence. Eight year-old Hearthstone had killed, gutted, and skinned the beast to prove his strength and worth and to earn his father's favor. But when he is rejected once more, his hatred turns on his younger brother, who had their parents' love handed to him on a silver platter. 

As the years follow, their previous love falls into shambles and, in the cold, blank walls of the Alderman mansion, their rivalry is nurtured. The mansion opens its doors to the vicious whispers on the streets of Alfheim, allowing for nothing short of perfection, and they flood the brothers' minds with venom as they scheme and pry into each other's lives, searching for a weakness, the path to being the better child. 

But when their mother, Greta Alderman, passes away, Hearthstone cannot help the grief weighing in his heart. Just as he is losing battles with his brother, being scorned by his father, letting down his best friend, Inge, and forgetting the reason he wakes each day, the clouds part and a dark figure hurtles from the sky, crash landing where Hearth risks a closer look. What he is not expecting is to find a dwarf, petrified in an instant under the Alf sun.

Imperfect, short, stout, dark, a mess, and everything that his realm despises- and yet, someone Hearth cannot help but find beautiful. For better or for worse, as old doors begin to close, new ones open, and Hearth must decide which is more important to him: the only love that he has ever known, or the love that just might exist on the other side. 

Notes: To be honest, this is heavily inspired by the relationship seen between Sirius and Regulus Black. I have always loved a story with a complicated family relationship, and under the roof of an abusive home, relationships between siblings are insanely wound with pain, anger, and regret. And yet, somewhere between the lines, there's also undeniable love. 

So, yeah.

The unscheduled bout, witnessed by council members and crowded galleries, occurred during the weekly council session last night.

The battle of fists followed a verbal duel over a statement made recently by Henderson, who charged that for $500 any by-law could be passed through the council. The council was considering a taxicab by-law when the bout opened, and it was two minutes before the contestants had been pushed into a hall, outside the council room, and order was restored.

The combatants traded blow for blow and kept whaling away as cries of "stop it" and "push them outside" rang out on all sides. In the hall, Blumberg administered the last punch, a terrific right to the jaw, and after a clinch, the council policeman separated the warriors. Henderson's glasses were knocked off in the melee and stamped and crushed underfoot.

"Anyone who accuse me of grafting can come outside," was the invitation the alderman issued earlier in the evening.

Henderson said he was prepared to stand by his allegations. "I have no intention of running away from any alderman," he added.

Henderson, minus his glasses, was asked later if he intended laying a charge against the alderman.

"I don't think he is worth it," he replied.

An alderman, sent to explain the changes to the women, was assaulted and ran away, and finally the women barricaded themselves into the church for a short siege.

Getting back into the Magnus Chase books means that I get to remember the absolute beauty of Blitz and Hearth. Two lovely men who are rejected by their families for being different.

Blitzen is a brilliant artist who cannot survive in the sunlight, whereas Hearthstone is a talented rune mage who can’t survive in darkness. And yet, they are inseparable.

Hearth is known for not showing a significant amount of emotion, yet any time Blitz shows up after being separated from him, Hearth practically launches himself at the dwarf.

Blitz is unendingly protective over Hearth; always there to catch him when he feints, never missing a chance to defend the elf’s abilities.

They’re casually and non sexually intimate all the time. Whether they are queer platonic, romantic, or a secret third thing, they’re absolutely devoted to one another.

And I think that’s beautiful.
