The political landscape of Idris had shifted over the decades he spent in the dark carving ladder from people's flesh. The Clave never gave back their trust in the Lightwood. Valentine could regain fortune for his victory, and punishment for his betrayal.

Maryse the Unmercy tensed when a letter with familiar signs came down her sparrow, commanding words capable of drawing expressions few had seen her displayed. Though burnt, the sentiment stayed.

Maxell Lightwood could stay, for he posed the perfect future pawn in Valentine's army. Lady Isabelle would become Valentine's dear Clarissa's Lady-in-waiting, her hands in marriage awaiting whatever house Valentine deemed suitable to sway over.

And when the gentle spray of she spring came, along her the first bloom of Moon Magnolia, Sir Jonathan Herondale would sweep on his horse, and renounce his love for Valentine's daughter. A family united, at last.

The firstborn, oh how Valentine looked to meet the Lightwood's grace, his son's soon-to-be bed warmer. The most useful hostage in the family. Breaking him would be the perfect jewel on the Morgenstern's crown.

Time spinned. The wheel went on.

Day of tourney returned. Words spread faster than wind, a foreign blade drawn. Prince Magnus Bane was never known to back down from a challenge.

The commoners laughed and cheered, bets in taverns went one thousand, one million. They all heard the tales, and Sir Herondale had run into his tough match. Magic ran through Edom's veins, and as one of The Eldest Curses, Prince Magnus's power rivaled most of his royal peers.

The competition would be unpredictable, many claimed. But some only cared about who would the winner dedicate his history to. Whether the blessed magnolia crown of love and beauty would rest on Morgenstern's flaming curls or the intricate blonde braid of Bane's newest amour.

To say this year's round was the most anticipated in centuries would not be a stretch by any means.

Everyone at the joust recalled the moment of their bated breath, as the Great Destruction knocked their prideful heron off his horse. Sharp as Bane's laughter when he took off his helmet, not letting anyone get in his way- reaching for where noble houses were posing in observance.

His eyes flitted over to the right, where the lady Isabelle abode with her family.

Oh— of course. Others whispered. The one true jewel of Alicante. Lady of the Roses.

What a quaint couple would they make. Most knew Maryse was anticipating her frosty rage.

It didn't matter.

For blue petals bloomed in between Sir Alexander Lightwood's raven locks.

-she’s too busy watching how Helen’s face softens when she tells Aline about how her brother likes painting, or how her sister can watch horror movies without getting scared, or how her other brother is fascinated with animals, or how her other sister takes fencing lessons, or how her other brother is going to college across the country and he’s bringing his girlfriend and his boyfriend home for Christmas jesus how many siblings does she have anyways?

-Helen asks Aline about her photography 

-Aline tells her about her favorite places to shoot

-she also offhandedly says she’ll take Helen to all of them one day

-Helen is enraptured because Aline lights up when she talks about photography and Helen can tell it’s something she really loves doing

-Helen may or may not be watching Aline’s mouth as she talks

-after the date they plan to get together again because they both have butterflies in their stomachs and they’re not passing up a chance at a second date 

-the second date turns into several dates

-they usually have lunch dates because of Helen’s work

-but Aline takes her camera to the coffeeshop and takes photos of Helen working without her knowing

-little things like Helen spilling creamer captured forever

-Helen also gives Aline free coffee with cheesy hearts written on the cups 

-she likes how Aline smiles secretly to herself when she sees the doodles

-literally every other barista knows they’re dating 

-when they first kiss it’s winter and they went on an afternoon walk in a park downtown 

-they’re holding hands obviously and Helen stops on a small bridge to look down at the ice below

-she’s playing with Aline’s fingers and Aline doesn’t mind because it’s Helen and besides her fingers are cold

-she gets the sudden urge to brush Helen’s hair behinds her ear because this golden blonde curl was just hanging there

-then Helen playfully brushes Aline’s hair behind her ear

-and Aline kisses her 

-the kiss is warm in the middle of the frozen park and their lips cushion against each other and Aline tastes like the burger she ate for lunch and Helen tastes like hot chocolate 

-it’s perfect okay

-they finally pull away kind of breathless

-Aline giggles

-Helen plants another quick kiss on Aline’s lips and then grabs her hand again

-and for that tiny moment it feels like they have all the time in the world

I love vinyle #14 Georges Delerue - Un homme amoureux, 1987

Pour évoquer Georges Delerue, j'ai choisi le premier album que j'ai acheté, c'était en 1987, à la FNAC des Halles. Le prix devait être de 46 francs, en prix vert nouveauté. J'aurais pu mettre n’importe quelle autre pochette, en fait. Mais je garde une affection pour cette b.o. Il y a des morceaux d'une grande beauté mélancolique, comme souvent chez Delerue. Mais c'est aussi la preuve qu'un mauvais film (de Diane Kurys, sur un épisode de la vie de Pavèse, un tunnel d’ennui, selon moi) peut donner une musique magnifique. Toutefois, les fans de Delerue se doivent de voir le film car la musique a été ré-enregistrée pour l'album, à de nombreux endroits on entend quelle sonne différement. Il y en plus quelques prises inédites. Peut-être qu'un recording sessions sortira un jour, on peut toujours rêver.

Ci-dessous, comme je l'avais fait pour Helen Merril, je me suis « amusé » à faire une Playlist à partir des extraits que je collecte de Delerue depuis des années. Les amateurs ou ceux qui ne connaissent pas auront de quoi faire.

Je m’arrête sur deux, trois extraits, comme Tours du Monde, Tours du Ciel qui était la musique d'une série documentaire de Robert Pansard-Besson autour des grands observatoires astronomiques mondiaux, série diffusée sur la Sept, en 1991. Un album difficile à trouver où Delerue compose aussi de très courts thèmes pour chacune des planètes de notre système solaire. Le morceau introductif (STELLAIRE 1) est d'une beauté à couper le souffle. Thème d'une simplicité folle, avec  quelque chose de la musique du Mépris dans le contrechamp du violon. Sublime envolée lyrique à 1'44. Le genre de morceau que je peux remettre en boucle, sans fin.

Pour saluer le côté solaire de Delerue, car il existe, deux morceaux avec flûte en soliste, sur une mélodie très virtuose, voire même primesautière, mais que j'adore tout autant. Essayez de siflotter ça :
