ALGOTH
Algoth works in the North faction as 2nd in command. He’s Grimm’s trusted right-hand man.
Algoth has both of his lips painted in his mask.
He usually prefers Grimm as sir, not really using his name.
He likes to do paperwork, and offers often to handle Grimm’s paperwork for him, especially when Grimm is busy.
Algoth is named after a famous 1920′s Finnish smuggler Algoth Niska.

"I'm home!" Grimm calls out as he closes the front door behind him. It's been a long day; he's mentally exhausted. He sighs, takes off his shoes, then heads for the kitchen, where it smells like Pearl is cooking up a delicious meal. "Sorry I'm late. My computer froze up and I ended up having to resubmit all of my paperwork"
"No worries, hunny. I just got back too, like 10 minutes ago because of similar issues."
After she kisses him, he looks past her and notices the takeout boxes spread out on the counter. "Takeout tonight?"
"Yeah?" She looks at him, confused by his surprised tone. "It was delivered right after I got home. I thought you ordered it."
"With how tired I am, I wouldn't be surprised if I did and just forgot because of all the paperwork I had to type up twice."
Pearl gave him a pittying look, then pushed him towards the dining table. "Go sit. I'll bring you a plate."
Dinner is great, especially since neither had to cook it. Afterwards, they curl up on the couch together for some much needed decompressing.
The moment was interrupted by an email from Algoth.
Grimm groans at the notification. "Fuck. I swear, if something happened to the paperwork again..." He opens the email. He glares at his phone. "Sonofabitch."
Curious, Pearl leans over to look at his phone.
INVOICE: $87.36 — — — — — The Bamboo Pantry $32.64 — — — — — — — — Service fee _________________________________________ $120.00 TOTAL NOTES: Happy Retrograde. Enjoy your dinner.
"What...?" Pearl pulls out her phone and looks up an astronomy chart. Mercury recently went retrograde; every other planet is either direct, or has been retrograde for quite some time already. While trying to figure out how Mercury's retrograde would warrant Algoth buying them dinner, something connects in her mind.
Pearl sits upright then intently goes through Mercury's chart, while flipping back and forth between the calender app. "Oh my gods... This totally happens every retrograde!"
"Hmm?"
"We always mess up our paperwork during the Mercury retrograde!" She groans and throws her head back against the couch. "How haven't I realized this before? How did Algoth realize it and not me?"
Algoth, sitting at home enjoy his night, completely uneffacted by Mercury's retrograde—possibly because he plans ahead to counteract any influence, or because Mercury know better than to affect him, or simply can't (who knows?)—smirks as he sees the pending deposit appear in his bank account.

Algoth Niska was a Finnish athlete and bootlegger who saved 151 Jews during the Holocaust.
Algoth was born in Viipuri, Finland in 1888. As a youth, he excelled in soccer and played on the Finnish national team at the 1912 Olympics in Stockholm. During World War I, Algoth entered navigation school and got married and divorced twice. In 1919, Finland, like the US, enacted a law prohibiting alcohol and Algoth saw a lucrative business opportunity. An experienced sea-goer, he bought a boat and started smuggling liquor from Sweden, Germany and Estonia into Finland.
Algoth became known to bon vivants in Finland as the man who could get a large variety of intoxicants. He tried to keep ahead of the police boats, but was shot at and arrested multiple times. Algoth served prison sentences in both Finland and Sweden. Though a tough seadog, he was well-liked by prison authorities and often released early.
In 1938, Algoth’s focus shifted to a new kind of illegal cargo: Jews. Finland was relatively safe for Jews at the time, but Germany was becoming a death trap. Over the next year and a half, Algoth took German Jews over land and sea to Finland, thus saving them from concentration camps. He provided the Jewish refugees with passports – some stolen, and some fake.
Algoth refused payment for smuggling Jews. Perhaps he welcomed the opportunity to redeem himself for past mistakes. In 1939, Algoth’s smuggling operation was discovered by the Nazis. He fled to Estonia, only to find that the Soviet Union had occupied the country. Finally, Algoth returned to Finland in a rowboat.
After the war, Algoth was broke. He made a little money from writing two books about his colorful life. Algoth died of a brain tumor in 1954 at the age of 65. Twice divorced, he left two children. Well-known Finnish musician Ilkka Lipsanen is his grandson.
For risking his life to save 151 Jews, we honor Algoth Niska as this week’s Thursday Hero at Accidental Talmudist.

Now for the list of Magical Masons:
Tumblr media
Arthur Edward Waite:
All tarot readers begin with the Rider-Waite-Smith Tarot Deck. It’s founder Arthur E. Waite was a freemason. Initiated on 19th September, 1901. Even though his involvement with the masons was sporadic his involvement is documented and accepted by the freemasons. He is also the author of “A New Encyclopaedia of Freemasonry: Their Rites, Literature and History; Emblematic Freemasonry.” He was also involved with the Golden Dawn, entering the Societas Rosicruciana in Anglia (SRIA) in April of 1902.
Tumblr media
William Wynn Westcott:
Besides being the co-founder of The Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn, William Westcott wrote many occult orientated books, one of which was “Numbers: Their Occult Power and Mystic Virtues.” He was initiated into freemasonry in 1871 on October 24th, becoming a Master in 1877 of The Parette and Axe Lodge No. 814, Crewkerne, Somersetshire.
Tumblr media
Aleister Crowley:
There is no freemasonry acceptance or official documentation of Aleister Crowley ever being more than an initiate in Anglo-Saxon Lodge No. 343. However, even though he claims to have been a close companion of John Yarker, a recognised freemason and author on many masonic titles, there is no such evidence to be found anywhere. It must be noted that “The Grand Lodge of England does not recognise Aleister Crowley as being a member of the craft. All his affiliations are with irregular bodies, and so he is denied recognition.”
Tumblr media
Éliphas Lévi: Known by the nickname, “The Last Magi.” Éliphas Lévi wrote extensively on magic and Magical freemasonry. Two of his most beloved titles are “Doctrine of Transcendental Magic and History of Magic.” These two well known books were however written before he was initiated into masonry and his time in The Lodge Rose du Parfait Silence, Grand Orient of France, Paris, lasted between March 1861 – August in the same year.

GRIMM
Grimm is North Faction leader and Dio’s former boss. He’s married to Pearl, who works at the Death-Head’s headquarters as an office worker.
Grimm is known to take only deals with involve violence, torture and killing. He’s rather active in deals despite being the supervising boss of North.
However, there has been only once a case where Grimm accepted a deal from a client which didn’t involve killing or violence; it was a deal Pearl requested and out of curiosity, Grimm took this deal.
He always takes the highest possible payment from each of his deals.
Grimm always remembers all debts and wants to handle his deals as well as possible.
His right hand man is Algoth.
Grimm is left-handed.
He’s very fond of quality cheese and seems also to enjoy beer, especially with Pearl.
He wears rings on all other fingers but thumbs and black haori. When he’s not married, his left nameless doesn’t have a ring.
His black tipped cat ears are smaller than half-face cats’ ears usually are.
Grimm often hums/hmmms when talking.

you know.... after ages of writer's block, i FINALLY thought up a little scene for my DHD fanfic, with such a great line from Algoth too, but as I'm writing the idea down and building on it a bit, that whole little part with Algoth doesn't work anymore.....
so now i'm debating on forcing the scene to fit his sassy line, OR just cutting it & writing the scene in a way that feels better 😠

Zuko did a double take, staring in disbelief. A heavy silence fell over them, and as the initial shock of it all died down, Zuko found himself putting everything algother–the way she would avboid him when he tried to get intimate, the way she almost seemed to freeze up when the subject came up…
He said nothing, uncertain what to say and how, but also not wanting to l;eave.
Mai wanted to crawl under her covers and hide, but he wasn’t leaving. He wasn’t speaking either-- the silence was going to kill her. She wanted to scream at him to say something and to go all at once.
“I understand if you want to break up,” she finally whispered.

ELEMENTAL SPIRITS: THE EMBODIMENT OF EARTH
Written by Algoth’s Grove
“The earth was soaked through and my bare feet sunk deep into the rich soil, the dark brown earth flowing in between my toes, I could smell the fresh scent of growing. I bent down and touched the roots of the old willow and it felt as though Gaia herself enveloped me… and I was home.”
DIRECTION: West (S.H), East (N.H) TYPE OF ENERGY: Receptive BASIC NATURE: Fertile, moist, nurturing, stabilising, grounding. Gravity is a manifestation of this element. COLOUR: Green PLACES: Caves, canyons, forests, groves, valleys, fields, farms, gardens, parks, plant nurseries, farmer’s markets, kitchens, baby nurseries, basements, mines, holes. RITUALS: Abundance, Fertility, Growth, Change, Transformation HERBS: Roots, Bulbs, Vetivert, Patchouli, Mosses, Lichens STONES: Green Crystals or rocks, Emerald and peridot, malachite if used in conjunction with rose quartz. MUSICAL INSTRUMENT: Drums MAGICKAL TOOLS: Pentacle, Salt NATURAL SYMBOLS: Salt, bowls of fresh soil, corn, wheat, potted plants, berries, grass… TYPES OF MAGICK: Stone, tree, knot, binding GODDESSES: Danu, Ceres, Demeter, Gaia, Nephthys, Persephone, Rhea, Rhiannon GODS: Adonis, The Greenman, The Dagda, Enki, Cernunnos, Dionysus, Marduk, Pan, Tammuz
The Earth. The ground we walk on. The foundation that we lay our own foundations on. Our source of nourishment in all forms. Our Mother. The world has moved so fast into the digital age that our wallpapers have beautiful images of far off mountains and rivers, but our own back gardens are neglected. We have forgotten that the spirit longs for its foundation, its mother, our earth. The Earth is in your back garden, it is in the pot plant in your home, it is in a leaf that you saved in an old book, it is in a special rock you have kept all your life… she is under your house, in your street, she is in you.
You are as much of the earth as the soil and the trees. In fact, you are riding on a giant ball that is your mother spirit, floating in a universe surrounded by darkness and balls of gas in a net of who knows how many universes and other life forms. The immensity of the spirit of Gaia is sometimes overwhelming, because it is She that is behind the wheel, driving all life, even you. If you feel lost, go kiss the earth. Whisper to a tree and your troubles will find a solution. Mother earth is your stability. She is your wise counsel. She is the bosom to turn to when it feels as though your spirit has been ripped from its core. She is the home that never disappears. She is the strength that never faulters and she is the foundation on which you build your magical foundation.
In her essence, her core spirit being, she would overwhelm you to the point of madness and so she has her helpers, her guardians, her messengers and some are nice, others are naughty, and others still are quite difficult to even get a glimpse of. However, they all carry her signature, they all carry her message and they all protect and guard her first. If you are not a lover of the spirit of Mother Gaia, do not even begin to think that an earth elemental would give you the time of day. Great respect, time, effort and hard work is needed when working with the elemental spirits. Also, remember that some of her messengers are naughty little critters and in all her seriousness, it is said that she enjoys a good hearty giggle sometimes…
The earth has hundreds of thousands of spirit helpers… To name them all would be impossible. The wiccan books designate gnomes to be the guardians, and in many aspects they are the roots of the guardianship of earth but we forget that they are not alone in the guardianship of the core spirit of Mother Gaia, she has her fairies, her pixies, her wee folk, her old wise men who walk alone in the dusk hours, her dryads and her lone earth wolves… she has her giant tree ent’s that Tolkien named, she has her dwarves, and her miners… she has her builders and her breakers, she has the magnificence of The Greenman and his Greenwoman, she has the shadow fae and she has the spirit deer with his large white antlers… She has so many guardians, those who hide in the shadows, those who dance just out of sight… and those… who, if you sit still in broad daylight will come speak of her magic right there in the midst of her greenery.
To call a nature spirit, a guardian of the green is not as difficult as it is to work with the air spirits or undines, the gnomes though are not friendly unless you have earned their trust. They will guard your watchtower but it takes time to befriend them. Leaving offerings of milk, precious stones, whisky or freshly baked bread over a period of 4 moons should provide better results. Earth dragons, fairies and dryads are far easier to please and they too can guard the watchtowers in circle. It lends different energy to your working so choose wisely. Pixies never make good guardians but they do make humorous friends. If you keep losing things in your home it may very likely be that you have a pixie problem, and that is sorted out by leaving out an offering of food and making a little space for them somewhere in your home… you will be surprised to see that you will be finding a lot more of the things that you lost…
Working with the earth is usually a fundamental practice in learning the art of magick. Working with her guardians and wee folk provides some of the most memorable moments to place in your book of shadows or mirrors… and without these workings, your footing will be lost… Mother Gaia is all around you, isn’t it time to get connected!
Time to get connected
Go lie flat on your back with your legs apart and your arms outstretched on the grass…
Feel the grass touch you, if there are bugs, let them see you as part of Great Mother Gaia,
Close your eyes.
Become aware of your skin,
Become aware of your breathing…
Concentrate and feel how your skin and the earth are becoming one with each breathe that you take…
Now imagine that you are like a plant, the first thing you want to do is shoot out your roots…
Let them shoot deep into Mother Earth…
Roots from the back of your head carrying all your thoughts, the good, the bad and the beautiful…
Roots from your shoulders carrying all the stress, responsibility, all the fear and worry…
Roots from your spine carrying your entire akashic record from your soul…
Roots from you arms and your hands carrying all that you do each day and all you have ever done…
Roots from your heart carrying those you love, those you have lost, all your joy, all your pain…
Roots from your stomach carrying the time of your birth into this life, carrying your parents memories and your family…
Roots from your lower back and your hips carrying sadness and insecurities…
Roots from your legs carrying the signature of every step you have taken…
Roots from your feet carrying every perception that you have ever had about this world…
Now breathe…
Mother Gaia is holding you, you are connected deep within her being…
As you have sent everything that you feel, that you think, that you are into her, so now she will return to fill you with her truth…
Through each part, each root that you have sent deep into her bosom, now she sends truth into you…
Through your roots, every part of your body is filled with earthly compassion, grounded love and belonging, purpose, security, and safety…
Your entire being is now filled with every green hue imaginable and you glow with her truth…
The more she sends through your roots the more you begin to glow until you, like a plant, a creature from her womb, shoot your stems into the daylight…
Higher and higher and sprout flowers of the most magnificent colours…
This is your soul truth…
This is the beauty of your soul.
When you have caught enough nourishment from her, come back to your breathing…
Wiggle your toes and your fingers,
Turn and kiss the earth in thanks…
