here's the thing about matthias: he isn't the honorable, reformed hero some of the fandom seems to see him as.
yes, he was raised by a tight-knit family of comrade soldiers and decides to betray them in the end. of course that took incredible strength. i don't deny that. but we also need to recognize that the drüskelle are not just some rogue cult. they are a core part of the fjerdan government, who is trying to wipe out the grisha because they are seen as dangerous. that's literally just genocide. however indoctrinated someone is, this is something that is evil from every angle, even if the character can't or won't see it.
and look, i love a good redemption arc, but matthias is such a passive actor in his. he falls in love with nina against his will. she changes his attitudes toward grisha because she's beautiful and kind so all grisha can't be bad, right? this a classic example of the trope of separating the "good ones" from the rest, where you cherry-pick specific individuals to point to as exceptions to a group's nature, which is still implied to be evil. you have to do a lot more than fall in love to truly unearth and address the roots of bigotry.
tbh, this is my biggest critique of the books as a whole. i loathe the "love conquers all" trope that pairs together a character from the oppressed group and one from the oppressors, letting the one show the other through the power of love that being bigoted is not nice. it puts all the responsibility on the former to prove their humanity, and gives all the credit to the latter's ability to be persuaded to recognize it. and then it inevitably leads to forgiveness, because the character has "earned" it by changing their views, once again making the victim seem like the villain if they don't absolve the oppressor of their past "mistakes". also, it's incredibly unrealistic for someone to fall in love with a person who actively hates them and considers them sub-human. in real life, people have to work on their bigotry before that happens, not use the relationship as a plot device for character development.
i think the idea of writing a character like matthias is neat. i think portraying someone's struggle to throw off the suffocating, hateful dogma they've been fed all their life is a story we need more of. i think personal growth of this variety should be celebrated, because otherwise people would never change. but i don't think the people, fictional or real, get to do this without facing profound consequences. it is not enough to feel sorry. it is not enough to apologize. it is definitely not enough to fall in love. and i think writing that lets people off the hook like this grossly oversimplifies power and oppression, and ends up being a feel-good way to romanticize people who cause a lot of harm.
a last note: my opinion is 100% influenced by my being bipoc. matthias is a classic aryan supremacist, even if being aryan isn't the thing he's being supremacist about. my gut reaction to that type of character is always going to be mistrust, both because people in real life have given me reason to be mistrustful and because characters like these are often written in a way that makes you sympathize with oppressors. i don't think matthias earns that trust, and i don't see why i owe him my affection as a reader.

Can you do hcs of the greasers with like a rich spoiled reader, she’s like so out of touch, using daddy’s money for everything, but smh she’s so nice to them, they’d be like 😃??
i feel like it would be so funny, i love your writing btw 💞
Tumblr media
Summary: The gang x spoiled but nice reader
Warnings: none
Authors Note: none
PONYBOY thinks you're genuinely one of the most beautiful girls in the world. He loves how smooth and silky your hair is, how you style it, how you dress. He notices little details about you that you might not have noticed yourself. He harbors such a big crush on you but he thinks that you'll be stuck up and spoiled. So imagine his surprise and delight when you kindly help him pick up the books that spilled out of his locker.
Later on, he runs up to you and with all his courage. Thank you and ask you on a date. You're all smiles as you accept. You think he's pretty cute and super smart. He loves taking you out, and he especially likes getting gifts from the heart because he appreciates how you notice the thought behind the soft and not the money even though you don't know the fact that greasers aren't exactly rich.
Johnny tries to avoid socs as much as he can. However, you come up to him first, he's immediately entranced by the smell of your perfume and hair wash, it soothes him. He's surprised at how kind you were, offering to just buy him a ticket so he didn't have to climb under the fence. He doesn't accept, of course, but he sees you later along in the movie and you offer to get him some drinks and snacks.
That ends up being your first date, and he starts trying to hang out with you more often. He's totally head over heels, he'll always remind you that you're so beautiful and lovely.
Sodapop is used to soc girls. He knows they aren't all bad but that they just can't be around greasers. He thought you were pretty but just another soc girl. Until you started openly chatting him up in front of others. He thought you'd ignore him, but he's pleasantly surprised. He also really enjoyed the conversation since it was about one of his hobbies. You mentioned how you were trying to get out of a date that you didn't really want to go on and Soda offered to help.
He ended up taking you out, and it was genuinely the most fun he's ever had. He loves your laugh, how it's so free, and it seems like you're unbothered by any negativity. He can see such a future with you but he's too shy to say anything.
Steve is infatuated with you from the moment he saw you. You're exactly his type and you exude the carefreeness only someone who is mature and well rounded can show. You have a lot of hobbies and talents and he starts trying to strike up conversations based off of it. He never really expects much out of it, he thinks that you'll just brush him off as a creepy greaser, but he's so happy when you notice your effort and start talking to him more and more.
He asks you out in passing, and he's so happy that you accept that it's the only thing Soda hears about for days leading up to the date. He brings your favorite flowers like a gentleman and makes sure to treat you like the lady you are.
Two Bit knows his "place" in Tulsas society. He knows he can flirt and fool around with a soc, but he'll never consider being in a relationship with one. It just doesn't work out most of the time. He only ever started talking to you because his sister did. He's seen you from afar. He knows that if he'd talk to you, he'd probably seek a relationship with you. So he's desperately trying to get his sister away from you. You two were engaged in conversation about "girl stuff" (or that was his assumption), and he just couldn't help that you were so kind to his sister even if she was a "greaser".
You returned his sister to Two-Bit, telling him how cute she was and how she was so interested in your makeup. He chuckles nervously and cracks an awkward joke, which you find really funny, and he walks home with your laugh stuck in his head.
is like Two Bit. He knows he shouldn't be with a soc, and that would screw life up for the both of you, and he knows that you're probably the best girl in Tulsa, but he refuses to acknowledge you in any shape or form. He only starts talking to you because your dad hired him to work on the roof. You asked him why he didn't become a football player because you thought he was pretty good and he had to go through the grueling tale of his life.
He was surprised at how apologetic you were for mentioning the subject, saying how a lot of people thought you were out of touch with life. He said that he thought you were pretty smart and that the people who said that just are jealous. His was love struck at seeing you smile like that and now whenever he thinks of you he blushes.
DALLAS is a total jerk to you. All he's looking for from you is a lay with one of the richest girls in town. He won't find it though, and he learns you actually have a lot more character than what's on the surface. He then tries to get you to be his plug and buy his cancer sticks and alcohol when he wants but he learnt that you get IDed because of how beautiful and youthful you look. He so frustrated with you because he knows you can't give him anything he wants on the surface level.
While he's dating you, he notices how much nicer he feels. He's always a lot more relaxed around you, and he loves being near you. He also notices how the police don't bother him as much anymore. As frustrated as he was at the beginning of the relationship, he's learned to appreciate you a lot more, and he thinks you're out of touch, naivety is cute. (He likes feeling like the one relied on)

Steve headcanons
silly guy <3
- Yes, his hair is greased 24/7 in complicated swirls, but he always has a strand that sticks up in the back. Soda calls it Charlie.
- I feel like he doesn’t have a lot of beef with Ponyboy but is just upset he’s a third wheel to him and soda most of the time. Pony is convinced this man hates him.
- likes to use car parts in metaphors , especially around socs, to make himself sound smart. (He already is)
^^^ “This guy’s more sensitive than a Crank Sensor in the morning heat..”
“Steve what the fuck are you talking about”
- manspreads. a lot.
- knows how to clean and fold clothes professionally from watching his mom.
^^^ “Darry, that technique is ass. Watch this.”
- mandated deodorant must be put on him before he steps inside the Curtis house.
- gets along with soda especially because they both yap at the same levels. Except Steve can just rant about cars for hours and soda can rant about anything for hours.
- I think he’d like white chocolate for some reason?
-type of guy to drink straight up ginger ale unironically. (Me too, Steve. Me too.)

Could you do something where the gangs (including Tim and curly) s/o has older brothers who are also greasers and just really intimidating in general?
A/N: This was such a fun concept? Dude, I had a lot of fun writing these, thanks for requesting them <3 and look at the little cuties, god they're the cutest things-
Tumblr media
DARRY CURTIS
Darry’s not used to having older siblings? He is the oldest, that’s just the way the world is-
Your brothers though? I have a feeling he’d be one of the boys who are the least afraid of your brothers
Like yeah, your brothers are well-known for being the tough hoods they are, there’s practically your own little family gang just between them
But Darry’s not going to be cowering beneath them, shaking in his boots afraid of them
He’s going to try and be a gentleman? He’ll shake your brothers’ hands, make conversation with them when he picks you up before dates
It’s just Darry being Darry, his mama taught him his manners and he’s going to use them <3 he’s a good person
SODAPOP CURTIS
I just have this gut feeling that without a doubt, Sodapop’s going to be at the very least, slightly afraid of your brothers
At least in the beginning, y’know? Meeting your brothers was probably one of the scariest moments in his entire life
They’re just sort of intimidating, I’m sure they’re the type to try and strike fear into all of the suitors who come for their kid sibling
After he proves himself though, either by protecting you from something or standing up for you somewhere, your brothers are pretty alright with him
Now he’s just got a few more older siblings who like to nag him for things!
I feel like he’d get along with them too, now they’re asking for you to start bringing him around more
PONYBOY CURTIS
Unlike his older brothers, Ponyboy is, in fact, used to having scary older brothers! So yours probably won’t bother him at all
He’s very used to the whole tradition of giving your younger sibling’s date the third degree whenever you meet them for the first time
But honestly? There really isn’t a reason for your brothers not to like Ponyboy, he’s doesn’t really do a lot of bad stuff
Unless your brothers have beef with the Curtis gang for some reason, Ponyboy’s a pretty safe choice to bring home to them!
He’s respectful with them too, he does his best to make conversation when the occasions call for it and he’s polite when he stops by your house
They like to say hi to him when he walks you home from school, waving from the house or the front yard when you guys show up
DALLAS WINSTON
Do we really think Dallas is going to be off-put by you having big, scary, older brothers? Cause I don’t-
Your brothers don’t scare him in the slightest, and if they do, he’s never going to admit it Dal likes to brag that he’s seen worse up in New York and that your brothers are nothing in comparison to some of the hoods he’s dealt with
He’s going to be rude, he’s going to push your brothers’ buttons a little and pull you closer and kiss you deeper than is polite
Honestly? I bet your brothers don’t really like him, they think you can do a lot better than Dallas Winston and will probably tell you that on the regular
However, if Dally takes down some Socs for you or something, plays a protective role that your brothers usually occupy, maybe they’ll start to like him a little more
That it doesn’t mean they’re going to be any more lenient when it comes to the rules about him hanging around though-
JOHNNY CADE
Probably your safest choice of a boyfriend when your brothers are as big and bad as they are, they’re very overprotective of you probably
Johnny has never done anything wrong in his life, is super duper polite and won’t push any of the lines your brothers draw
They don’t want him spending the night at your house? Johnny’s alright with that, he’ll give you a soft kiss on the porch before he heads off for the night
He’s respectful guys, he’s not going to push the rules and he’s going to be considerate of your brothers
If you ask him, he’ll probably tell you that he’s not afraid of them, only slightly scared but I can see Johnny kind of looking up to them like he looks up to Dallas
Don’t tell Dally that though, Johnny doesn’t think he needs to know-
TWO-BIT MATHEWS
Hoohoo, oh boy, Two-Bit is going to run your brothers ragged-
Two-Bit likes to be annoying and your brothers are overprotective and it’s just so easy to get them all riled up
He’ll try and push the line sometimes, argue with them about silly things and just be a menace whenever he’s around them
Two’s not afraid of them like at all, he probably should be at least a little afraid but there isn’t one ounce of fear in his body when it comes to them
It’s another one of those, he’s gotta prove himself to your brothers? They think you can do better than Two-Bit, blah blah blah
But just one time where’s comforting you when you really need it or just being there for you when you need him, your brothers are a little more accepting of the hood
STEVE RANDLE
My version of Steve is an only child, so that’s going to affect this a little cause my Steve isn’t used to having siblings in general-
Is Steve afraid of your brothers? The answer is yes, very much so, thoroughly afraid of them
But he won’t act like he’s afraid, he just tries to toughen up by pushing his shoulders back and his chin up whenever he’s got to talk with them
Their approval is sort of important to him? He wants your brothers to like him, that’s really all he wants, he seeks the validation
Steve’s going to be polite then, making sure to have you home on time so you won’t break curfew
Your brothers probably think he’s a good enough kid, they’ll nag him every now and again, tease him just enough to keep him on his toes, it’s a brotherly kind of love guys
TIM SHEPARD
Tim’s not afraid of your brothers, like at all-
He’s a gang leader guys, he deals with “big and scary” guys all the time so your brothers aren’t going to be any different
Tim’s got an attitude, that’s for sure, and it’s not going to change when it comes to your brothers, he’s still going to be a jerk and pester them and push all their buttons
He’s not rude? Like he follows the rules they’ve set for you, but he’s a little passive-aggressive, whispering comments that you’ll smack him for and just being a menace
Tim doesn’t take too kindly to teasing, he’s not going to let them push him around and your brothers will probably figure that out really fast
Again, your brothers probably don’t like him, whether they don’t like Tim himself or they don’t like the Shepard gang? No one will ever know
CURLY SHEPARD
Your Brothers Either Don’t Like Him Or Just Don’t Like The Shepard Gang Pt.2
Curly’s not the greatest kid, he gets into trouble and does things he shouldn’t, but he’s used to having a scary older brother
Tim’s pretty good about keeping him in line, so he’s not too surprised when your brothers make rules about him coming around
Is Curly going to follow all of them? Probably not, he treats them more like guidelines than actual rules, curfew is more of a recommendation in his mind than a hard rule to follow
He takes care of you though, that’s something your brothers have to admit about Curly, he takes good care of you
From making sure he’s between you and whatever danger you might find yourself against to simply sharing his food with you if you’re hungry <3

In defence of Steve Randle
Listen guys, Steve Randle gets a lot of hate in this fandom and as much as it pains me, it's valid. Everyone has their own interpretation of the source material, and fandom is supposed to be fun, so it is absolutely valid and ok to hate or love any character you want. You can hate Steve for many reasons or for no reason at all! This is fandom! That's ok! The story is for you interpret and love and play with and hate on to your hearts content. HOWEVER, to say that Steve Randle isn't an important character to the novel is simply not true, and to say that he hates Ponyboy requires ignoring or downplaying some pretty key moments of the book. This is especially true for those of you who love Dally but hate Steve, because Steve gets a lot of hate for being kind of a dickhead (which lbr, a lot of seventeen years old are, especially to their friend's little siblings) while Dally gets less for doing a lot worse (harassing Cherry, jumping kids, etc). This isn't to say that either character is better- they're both great, nuanced characters who have done bad things, but the fandoms attitudes towards them when they share a lot of characteristics is really telling. Even Ponyboy's narration about them is pretty similar- Pony doesn't particularly like Steve, and he was canonically scared of Dally, but they're both members of his gang and he doesn't hate either of them. You don't have to like Steve as a character, just like you don't have to like Dally or Darry or Tim Shepard or even Ponyboy, but he is important- and he doesn't hate Ponyboy, nor does Ponyboy hate him.
A really important moment in the book is when Ponyboy and Johnny defend Dally after he harasses Cherry and Marcia.
"Dally's okay," Johnny said defensively, and I nodded. You take up for your buddies, no matter what they do. When you're a gang, you stick up for the members. If you don't stickup for them, stick together, make like brothers, it isn't a gang any more. It's a pack. A snarling, distrustful, bickering pack like the Socs in their social clubs or the street gangs in New York or the wolves in the timber."
This line here is super important. Pony and Johnny were willing to defend Dally after he sexually harrassed Cherry and Marcia- soc girls who they clearly liked and were intimidated by- in the name of being a good friend, because that is what's important to them and their gang. If they're willing to do it in this context for Dally, you'd best believe they'd do the same for Steve, and him for them. Steve can and will rag on Ponyboy within the gang, but he'd never dream of bad mouthing him to anyone else. Dependability is important to the gang, and Steve would never publicly shit talk Pony, and vice verca. Regardless of their squabbles within the gang, at the end of the day they've got each others backs. They're buddies. We see evidence of this at the end of the book, when Pony grabs the bottle and threatens the socs with it.
"You really would have used that bottle, wouldn't you?" Two-Bit had been watching from the storedoorway. "Steve and me were backing you, but I guess we didn't need to. You'd have really cut them up, huh?"
The important thing here is that along with Two-bit, Steve was backing Ponyboy, no questions asked. Sure most of it boils down to Pony being a member of the gang and that deep rooted loyalty to one another, but the context for this scene is that Ponyboy was sitting on Steve's car waiting for Steve and Two to stop flirting with some girls. The three of them were hanging out- without Darry, without Sodapop. It's their school lunch break. We know Ponyboy has middle class friend's at school, or that he could've spent time in the school library. It was a deliberate choice to hang out with Two and Steve. He wasn't forced into it. Canonically, Steve and Ponyboy hang out. Never alone, but they're decent enough friends to hang out together in a group. Doesn't everyone have friends like that? I do. This isn't the only textual instance either where they hang out without the entire gang being present. Early on, Pony offhandedly mentions that sometimes Steve and Soda will buy him pop and teach him about cars if he hangs around the DX.
"I had walked down to the DX station to get a bottle of pop and to see Steve and Soda, because they'll always buy me a couple of bottles and let me help work on the cars."
He could've just said Soda's name here but he didn't. Steve buys Pony pepsi and teaches him about cars, even though he gets annoyed with him when Soda invites him to hang around with them too often. And honestly, who wouldn't? I'd be annoyed if my best friend always invited her little brother along with us, even if I liked the kid. Wouldn't you?
Now, we do need to address the elephant in the room. I'm talking of course, about this quote;
"I'd never tell Soda, because he really likes Steve a lot, but sometimes I can't stand Steve Randle. I mean it. Sometimes I hate him."
I feel like very often people forget the context this quote comes from, and so it's magnitude is blown way out of proportion. Ponyboy has just been jumped and then immediately scolded by his brother who constantly makes him feel foolish and unwanted. He's already scared, embarassed, and defensive and then Steve goes and makes him feel even more unwanted. Of course he wants to lash out. Of COURSE he feels like he hates Steve in that moment. I did even reading it. But Ponyboy doesn't truly hate Steve. This moment is PEAK fourteen year old having a rough night energy, it's not truly representative of Steve as a character or of Ponyboy's feelings towards him. In truth, Steve actually kind of likes Ponyboy and is at very least protective over him. This is evidence by the previous quotes, but also when Ponyboy comes back from Windrixville, and is worried about the state placing him in foster care;
"'No, [Ponyboy said] 'they ain't goin' to put us in a boys' home.' 'Don't worry about it,' Steve said, cocksure that he and Sodapop could handle anything that came up. 'They don't do things like that to heroes.'"
It's subtle, and not immediately obvious to the traumatized fourteen year old who is used to Steve's cocky nature, but this is both a reassurance and a very bold claim. Not only is Steve trying to look out for Ponyboy the way the rest of the gang models- by treating him like a kid, letting the 'adults' worry about grown up issues in a misguided attempt to protect Pony- he is also throwing in his lot to make sure nothing does happen. Based on this quote and the rest of Steve's characterization throughout the book its not hard to infer that Steve would fight tooth and nail to make sure Ponyboy stays safe with his family. Sure, part of it is gang loyalty, part of it is his devotion to soda, but part of it is because he and Ponyboy are buddies in their own right, no matter how much they fight. They are friends- and Steve is an incredibly important character for many reasons, but particularly to add depth to Pony's character, to the bond between the Curtis gang, and to highlight how the Curtis gang differs from the other gangs in Tulsa. Steve is just as much an outsider as the rest of the gang, and it's disingenuous to say otherwise no matter how much you may hate him as a character.

Greasers x mean girl/boy/person (think Regina George, Heather Chandler, Bryce Tankthrust) s/o who uses their status to protect their greaser and is kind of nice under all the cutthroat boss bitch-ness. Like the top rank of social that most other socs are afraid of.
(tried to make it gender neutral of my best ability, but it’s hard to fit phrases like “ queen bee” into gender neutral terms)
Inspo:
*socs approach and start making jeering comments* Hey Grease…
*you get in front of them* if you ever talk to them like that again, I will make it my personal life goal to ruin yours, and no one will hire your sorry ass again. Oh, and you can consider *insert secret* spilled.

Ponyboy’s a kid with something to prove. Prove he can handle himself, prove he’s strong, prove that he’s just another human being. He’s the youngest of the gang, he’s the kid brother of Darry and Sodapop- for a while he thought that was why everyone tolerated him. And while he is watched out for because of his age and can be a tag-along he thinks he’s looked upon much more differently than he really is, at least amongst the gang.
The youngest always tries to seem older, latching on, copying behavior, following around. He wants to be seen as more than just the kid. Ponyboy wants to be capable. He’s always been a spacy kid and it causes everyone to worry about him— he tends to zone out a lot , gets caught in his own world and really absorbs movies and books in a way none of the others do. He’s sensitive. Even he feels that sensitivity and it makes him wildly Insecure— how different he is. Why’d he have to be observant why couldn’t he just be fine with fighting and cars?
Good grades are hard to come by in the neighborhood and he gets those. He stays out of trouble when he can. Sticks up for everyone. There’s almost a expectation that good grades should be enough but he still has to work and prove himself to the soc’s that he’s not just some hood and he’s in advanced classes for a reason.
He wants to be tuff, and he is. He walks the walk, talks the talk- can look mean when he needs to and throws a punch good. He’s just never found a way to live with it or accept things. Pony thinks too much and too little at the same time.
“I ain’t a chicken, Two-bit Mathews, and you know it.” … “ain’t I a Curtis, same as Soda and Darry?” (127)
He takes a great deal of pride in being a Curtis, in his brother’s reputations. At the same time he wants for one of his own. Don’t he fight good too?
Interestingly, Ponyboy is pretty damn strong. He’s depended on in his track team, he bounces back well from injury/illness (physically at least) and he’s very physically strong despite his age and lengthy stature.
Even with three guys pinning him down he manages to thrash and kick like a buck. He can struggle when there’s no reason he should be able to. Hell— he gets Bob to fall into the fountain! All while pinned down!
It’s not that he can’t handle himself or fight well, it’s how he tends to forget a lot. Pony needs to use his head for more than school and moping around. He tends to see the gangs protection and worrying as patronizing to an extent but it’s not (just) because he’s the kid brother… it’s because he’s one of them.
He’s stronger and more part of the gang than he thinks himself to be. While also displaying a LOT of little brother tendencies, he just needs to realize that’s not a bad thing.

if you pay attention to non-voiced dialogue, side quests and drip marketing posts you might've realized already, but
Billy Kid used to be a member of the Sons of Calydon.
it's not like it has been outright stated but with the amount of hints the game has given, i think it's a safe bet. we don't know the implications of this connection as of now considering how little we know about SoC, but i think we'll get more info in 1.3, along with Caesar's release. with that being said, let's get into it.
starting easy, Billy's jacket. red, and with a boar. need i say more?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
not exactly the same, but definitely close enough to have a connection.
moving on, most of the hints can be found in Billy's trust quests. they are triggered randomly (and I assume some of them are only available at a certain trust level) but I think as long as you level up his trust you are bound to get the ones I will be talking about.
first off is the Sixth Street Motor Legend one. you meet Billy on one end of Sixth Street, near the Workshop, and he tells you about this legendary biker who drives his super fast motorbike by Sixth Street at midnight every night. he compares it to the bikes of the Outer Ring, which is where SoC - which we know to be bikers - reside. when questioned on his interest, he mentions how he was just interested in seeing the legendary bike since he himself used to own and ride a bike when he lived and worked in the Outer Ring.
in the second part of this event, he goes to question Enzo, convinced that the legendary biker is him. as Billy described the SSML to him, he uses the words "crimson nightmare" (because the bike is red), which seem to remind Enzo of something. he denies being the biker, but brings up an old customer of his who "fits that description". he describes this guy: member of an OR biker gang, pretty well known in his circle, had white hair and a red scarf. and his name was "Starlight Knight". as soon as he says that, Billy says "that's my name!" which is odd even for a diehard fanboy. he quickly accepts Enzo's words, as if wanting to dismiss the topic, and the Proxy brings up how he seems to be acting suspicious. And then Billy just hurries off. Which is suspicious. If you try interacting with him after the quest is over, he says "Maybe... the Sixth Street Motor Legend should remain a mystery, after all."
in another trust event, he tells the Proxy he used to live in a big truck a long time ago, and he seems to know a lot about cars. both are things that are typically associated with the SoC, iirc.
lastly, there's the Hollow Zero quest. Billy asks the Proxy to bring him to explore the Hollow, and after starting the exploration, you run into some bandits. nothing of note happens in the dialogue before the fight, aside from the leader of the bandits mentioning how Billy looks familiar. in the dialogue after the fight though, some stuff comes up. the leader starts noticing more things about Billy: the white hair is brought up again, and he seems to recognize the red jacket as well. he says "Could it be that you're the legendary-" but Billy interrupts him. and as soon as he's done talking, the leader yells "Run! We don't wanna mess with this guy!" and leaves in a hurry. following that you can question Billy, who seems to be hiding something. his answer convinced me for good that something's up. he says "everyone has a past. you're no different, right? you can't change the past, which is what makes the present and the future far more important." the game wants you to know there's more to his character.
to those who might be wondering why i would bring up the bandits recognizing Billy when it's likely that they simply know him for being a Cunning Hare, let me tell you: that's probably not it. The Cunning Hares aren't famous, they're broke and underground, and would definitely not strike that much fear into Hollow Raiders. the Sons of Calydon though... they might. and as a cherry on top, I doubt "Billy Kid of the Cunning Hares" is even close to being a legendary figure.
i was going to make this post sooner, but I was worried it wouldn't be enough to prove my point. then Caesar was drip marketed today, and...
Tumblr media
you don't call the leader of the SoC "Big Sis" if you don't have a past with her, or the entire faction.
maybe there's more stuff i missed. maybe i'm being delusional. but I still invite you to join the "1.3 Billy Kid lore drop" prayer circle. anyways thanks for reading my ramble I just really like it when the silly robot guy with guns has a Past.

Your swings hc was adorable, do you have anymore hcs about what the gang (all) were like as kids? 😁 sorry I’m asking for sm today my own brain doesn’t feel like working 😭🎞️
Of course!! And PLEASE don’t apologize :(( I LOVE answering things like this!! <3
Darry was absolutely the fattest fucking baby you’ve ever seen and you wouldn’t even know it by looking at him now
He also hates looking at baby pictures of himself
Soda came out with a full head of hair and they used to joke that was the first thing he ever used his head for
His hair was the finest most light shade of blonde ever. Mr. and Mrs. Curtis would’ve thought he had albinism from his light his hair was (it darkened later tho)
Pony was absolutely the cutest baby though. If he looks at baby pictures he’ll kinda just wrinkle his nose but he had the biggest eyes ever and he was always giggling
Teh first time Darry held either of his brothers he cried (they both hold this close to their hearts when Darry is working hard)
Johnny was actually a really cute baby. He was just really tiny and frail honestly. They thought he wasn’t gonna make it because Mrs. and Mr. Cade did NOT take good care of him in the womb.
As a result he kinda had a lot of physical issues and would’ve probably needed PT and OT (Mr. and Mrs. Curtis help him out with this honestly)
Johnny and Soda actually became friends before he met anyone else because Soda kinda took him under his wing because he and Steve noticed Johnny was alone at recess one day and he was just like “hey you wanna come and play with us?? :)”
Pony and Johnny met at the park one day when Soda invited Johnny over and IMMEDIATELY y clicked
When Pony and Johnny got closer Soda used to fake cry and say “they grow up so fast…”
Additionally when Pony was born Soda tried to roughhouse with him a lot (because he kinda had really bad impulse issues as a kid) and the Curtis parents had to sit him down and tell him Pony was really fragile and they couldn’t roughhouse like he does with Darry and if he hurts Pony then he won’t ever be able to play with him again
They said something like “do you want something bad to happen to him?” and he started crying and kept saying no over and over (poor baby :( )
Darry was always kinda the unofficial “leader” since he was the oldest
Darry and Two Bit actually got along really well because they were kinda opposites (even tho Two is 2 years younger than Darry)
So they kinda had their duo, Steve and Soda had each other and Johnny and Pony had each other
Steve and Soda had been friends since they were born. Steve used to hold the fact he was six months older than Soda over his head.
“Why can’t I be the red car?” “Because I said so!” “That doesn’t count!” “Well I’m idle so I get first pick!”
let’s be real they still do shit like this
Dally came into the picture when Darry was around 14 or so and immediately he thought Dally would hurt his brothers and he told them to stay away from them
Dally actually stuck up for Pony and Johnny one day at lunch against some older Socs and they thought he was absolutely awesome
Ever since Darry has begrudgingly allowed Dally in the group but the longer time went on the longer things became smoother
Sofa kept a scrapbook and absolutely cries whenever he looks at it (he most looks at it when Darry and Pony fight and it makes him sad to remember all the times they used to get along)
The three get their appetites from Mr. Curtis. The first thing Soda did when he came out of the womb was cry because he was hungry and Pony would cry almost all day because he was hungry
Mrs. Curtis hated seeing little Johnny come over after a bad night with his parents because he looked so sad and so beat up and his tummy was rumbling and she just felt so horrible for him. So she patched him up and kissed over his injuries. He misses her every single day because of this
Dally was kinda surprisingly rude to the Curtis parents teh first time he met them (Darry kept sending him death glares) but Mrs. Curtis took no shit. And Dally actually shaped up because of this. He was so used to everyone just taking his shit and she didn’t. It made him respect her.
I think that’s all i got for now!! i may need to make a part 2 because I can’t think of any yet haha

Shamelessly spamming your inbox as well! Why do you think Kaz takes off his shirt in front of Inej? We know he likes to get a rise out of her (“something about the furrow between her brows was so satisfying”). Do you think he realizes he’s making her blush? Would you consider doing an analysis of your favorite parts of Kaz’s first POV in SOC and the CK bathroom scene? thank you so much!!
Hello and welcome to episode three of DK Finally Gets It Together And Answers Her Asks Because It's About Damn Time (working title)
Episode One - Episode Two
Hi, thanks so much for the ask and sorry that I've taken an eternity to get back to you, but yes absolutely let's talk!
Why does Kaz take his shirt off in front of Inej? The fact that Kaz takes his shirt off in front of Inej is kind of a strange one because it implies feeling a level of comfort around each other that neither of them are emotionally prepared to admit that they have - it's not that long ago (in fact I think it may have just been the previous chapter?) that Kaz told us "to say he trusted Inej would be stretching the point" and yet here he willingly removes his gloves and his shirt in front of her, a massive concession to his ability to be more vulnerable in front of Inej than he is anyone else. I think it's possible that, as you said, he enjoys getting a rise out of Inej however I aslo think this could be interpreted as yet another self-deprecating habit Kaz has collected around Inej to convince himself away from caring about her. I've talked a lot about the way his language separates them and famously the sarcastic delivery of "my darling Inej, treasure of my heart" to offend her even though the words represent, at least to some extent, his genuine feelings because he knows it will elicit a negative response (in this case pointedly referring to his cane and wishing him a long trip down the stairs before Inej herself slides down the bannister) and therefore he can somehow justify ignoring his feelings for Inej's because he had some kind of 'evidence' that she doesn't reciprocate. This is a damaging mentality to both of them, in Kaz with the evident self-deprecating qualities of the action and in Inej the belief that Kaz sees nothing in her except her monetary value to him (I believe the quote is something along the lines of "she was an investment no more no less" and is borne in Inej from the multiple times Kaz refers to her as such in his efforts to distance himself from her, unintentionally presently a massive and damaging misunderstanding of her trauma and the dehumanisation she went through - "bought her, and then sold her again and again"). the scene when Kaz removes his shirt in front of Inej is told from her perspective and we know she sees absolutely nothing beyond the practicalities of the moment as being any kind of vulnerability or romantically charged because she wonders what Kaz would think if she undresses and started washing herself in front of him, and comes to the conclusion "he'd probably tell me not to drip on the desk", and arguably this has a similar impact on her to the idea of being an "investment" rather than humanising terms because from her perspective he is acting exactly as he would if he were alone and with the way she's been treated and the kind of responses trauma and ptsd can cause in people this could to her feel like an extension of the dehumanisation tools that were used against her, effectively she may believe that he's willing to remove his gloves and shirt in front of her because he doesn't acknowledge himself as actually being watched by anyone - or at least not anyone of importance. Whilst this is obviously not Kaz's intention with the action I do wonder whether it's possible that it is to some extent another way of distancing himself from Inej. When Kaz removes his shirt Inej looks away from him, embarrassed, and pretends to study some of the papers on his desk. She comments that she had "lost most of her modesty at the Menagerie" but that there were still "limits". I think there's every chance that Kaz knows she will look away because she's uncomfortable with immodesty and the general vulnerability of the scene, as well as any relation she could reasonably find to her ptsd in this action, and that he is once again forcing himself to come up with this 'evidence' of her disinterest in him so he can bully himself into ignoring his feelings for her. I hope this made sense maybe it's just a rambling mess...
Also:
I have written an analysis of the CK bathroom scene so I will link that here
And when I was doing that series where I analysed my favourite quotes from each chapter I didn't get very far in because the posts took a long time to put together but I did cover chapter three (Kaz's first POV) split into a few different posts :)
Also, I'm back on my analysis nonsense right now so if y'all would like to see that series come back let me know, because I did have fun putting them together they were just also time consuming and I had a lot of other stuff to do at the time
Thanks so much for the ask! Sorry I took so long to respond, and the same to everyone else with questions in my inbox right now, but thanks for sending them in and thanks for reading this post - and don't let it put you off sending more asks if you'd like to! I am working my way through them, I promise :)

hi!! do you have any favorite hcs for each of the gang members?
I have a few headcannons! If anyone wants to hear more about these I’d love to elaborate!
TW for child abuse in Steve and Johnny’s parts, and thoughts of suicide in Johnny’s first headcannon
ℙ𝕠𝕟𝕪𝕓𝕠𝕪 ℂ𝕦𝕣𝕥𝕚𝕤
My guy is honestly lacking in friends at school. Most of the gang either dropped out a long time ago or are in a completely different grade. He gets along with people on the track team and stuff but most of them kinda just see him as ‘cool enough’ and not really a friend
One time one of the guys from the team held a party and nobody told him about it. When he found out he tried to act like it didn’t matter to him but it still stung. He didn’t even want to go, it was just the idea that nobody bothered to invite him
He’d be that one kid in college that didn’t have a lot of freedom during high school and just goes absolutely crazy. It takes him a semester to learn how to use his free will responsibly. I actually have a lot of Ponyboy college headcanons if anyone would be interested in those.
When he learns to drive he’s actually a pretty good driver, and people trust him to take them places. The only problem is that he seems to be a magnet for terrible drivers. Like he gets on the road and suddenly nobody around him remembers wtf a turn signal is.
He definitely curses out people when he’s driving. Darry has straight up given up on trying to correct his language behind the wheel
𝕊𝕠𝕕𝕒𝕡𝕠𝕡 ℂ𝕦𝕣𝕥𝕚𝕤
I’ve mentioned this one before, but he cannot STAND people being angry with him. Like he will just agree with whatever the gang asks to keep peace. It’s a lot of the reason why he hates being pulled into arguments, because he can’t avoid upsetting someone.
Sometimes when Darry and Ponyboy are going at it he’ll just straight up leave without being noticed. He honestly started pushing how much he could get away with it until he eventually did get caught after he was still gone at 4am. Darry felt too guilty to even be able to lecture him.
Because of his aversion to conflict him and Darry hardly ever argue, but when they do it’s UGLY. It’s like a whole world war breaking out in the living room. It’ll almost always end with Soda sobbing and Darry usually just has to like, leave for a while. One time they didn’t talk for three days. People don’t even try to get between them because it always makes things worse. In the end they always manage to talk it out though, sometimes it just takes a while.
Less angsty one, Soda makes people go on walks with him in the middle of the night. Usually it’s Steve, but he’ll take Ponyboy if there’s no school the next day. One time he even made Dally come with him by threatening to go by himself if he didn’t come lol. As much as everyone complains about it, they never tell him no.
In school he had detention like every single day. All his teachers absolutely despised him and he would’ve had to redo his junior year if he hadn’t dropped out.
𝔻𝕒𝕣𝕣𝕪 ℂ𝕦𝕣𝕥𝕚𝕤
During high school he’d get really pissed when his Soc friends beat up Greasers. He actually got a couple of them to stop completely, but others just learned to do it without getting caught. They all knew better than to mess with the gang, though,
Speaking of high school, he just straight up wasn’t welcome into most of his friend’s homes. Only Paul’s parents actually liked him, and only like two other people’s parents even pretended to like him.
Darry waited until after his parents funeral to cry so that his brother wouldn’t see him. The priest came and sat with him for a little bit while he just sobbed hysterically.
Sometimes he sits by their graves and asks for advice. He doesn’t get any, obviously, but he always leaves with his mind a little more clear than it was before.
𝕁𝕠𝕙𝕟𝕟𝕪 ℂ𝕒𝕕𝕖
When the Socs jumped him, he honestly thought he was going to die. That scared him, but that scared him even more was the fact that he wasn’t that upset about it. It wasn’t until the gang showed up that he realized how much he really didn’t want to die now, but in the moment it almost felt like a nice release.
For a couple weeks after the Curtis parents died, he’d come over every day and just do chores and cook. He didn’t feel like it was a lot, but to Darry who had to do a million things at once while barely being able to get out of bed it meant so much.
Sometimes he’ll sit by the train tracks, and whenever a train rolls by he’ll think about jumping on it and just running away from everything. But he can’t stand the idea of leaving Ponyboy and Dally, so he doesn’t.
Him and Steve don’t talk much, but they have the common ground of coming from shitty home lives. Sometimes they’ll just come to eachother to get an injury taken care of or just to breathe for a minute, and then they’ll just never mention it again.
𝔻𝕒𝕝𝕝𝕒𝕤 𝕎𝕚𝕟𝕤𝕥𝕠𝕟
Tulsa was supposed to just be a temporary stop for him until he met Johnny. Then he decided staying a few weeks wouldn’t hurt. Sometimes he still tells himself he’ll leave eventually, but he knows that’ll never happen.
Before the Curtis parents died part of him looked up to Darry and the way he took care of the gang. That went away after the Curtis parents died and everything started falling apart, but for a while he saw Darry as what he used to want to be.
Him and Tim Shepard have an unspoken agreement that one can piss the other off when they want a fight. At this point it’s basically a challenge to see who can make the other angrier. Dallas won when sold Angela drugs for a party.
Two-Bit, Steve, and Soda will constantly be dragging him to incredibly sketchy parties. They claim it’s for protection but really they just wanna hang out and they know he can’t say no if he’s worried about them getting murdered in a back alley.
𝕋𝕨𝕠-𝔹𝕚𝕥 𝕄𝕒𝕥𝕥𝕙𝕖𝕨𝕤
He met Darry when they were in elementary school, and they’re best friends. He’s also been a designated babysitter for as long as he could remember. Him and Darry don’t hang out a ton anymore, but they’re still the first person eachother go to when they need help.
Idk if yall have seen that video where they’re making a drink without knowing what everyone else put into it, and everyone is putting in mixers cause they don’t trust Ali. And then at the end Ali shows up and pours in like half a bottle of ever clear. Ali is Two-Bit.
Him and his sister are insanely close. They’re constantly having tea parties and gossip sessions. He made Soda teach him how to do hair just so that he could do hers.
𝕊𝕥𝕖𝕧𝕖 ℝ𝕒𝕟𝕕𝕝𝕖
One of the most loyal motherfuckers you’ll ever meet. He doesn’t actually like a lot of people, but he will literally kill for the people he does.
Evie isn’t allowed in the Curtis house anymore, not because they don’t like her, but everyone just got sick of watching Steve and her make out. She’s unofficially banned from the DX for the same reason. (Something Steve found very unfair because Soda and Sandy were just as bad the second Darry was gone)
His dad used to be really violent when he was younger, but as he got older he also got stronger and his dad got weaker. Things aren’t bad anymore because his dad knows that if Steve gets scared enough then he WILL kill him.
Absolutely loves speeding down the road in the middle of the night. He’ll drag Soda and Evie on VERY illegal joy rides. Tbh even when he’s not breaking road laws for fun he still drives like an absolute maniac.

Can I request the Curtis siblings with a sister who is obsessed with her looks
Tumblr media
Summary: The Outsiders with a Curtis sibling who's obsessed with her looks Warnings: none Author's Note: none PONYBOY CURTIS He doesn't mind having a sister who is obsessed with her looks, as long as you don't get in his way when he's getting ready for school in the morning. He doesn't usually do a big routine before school but he hates being late so he prefers for you to stay in your corner and for him to stay in his. There's definitely a corner of the room that's totally dedicated to you and your makeup desk that your parents got you when you were just a little girl who liked to play with makeup. He's not ashamed of you as his sibling, especially since you always look super put together and well dressed. Sometimes you're even a ticket out of him getting cut up by some socs. Of course, being pretty makes you a very underestimated girl, sometimes Pony can forget that you can keep up with him while he's running and you get top marks. He remembers and then he just is so happy that he has some friendly competition. JOHNNY CADE He doesn't usually interact with you, Dally's got the idea that 'all girls are the same' nailed into his head. But he's friendly and open when you two talk. He's pleasantly suprised at how genuine and kind you are. He forgets that Dally's seen some rough things but also tends to exaggerate. So as his way of 'making up for it', he spends a lot of time hanging out with you. He did develope a little crush on you when he was younger, like WAYYY younger. But it was more of a "wow, it's a girl!!" kind of crush and it didn't amount to much. Currently, you two are rather close and when Pony's busy and he has nothing to do, you two will go out and just goof off and have fun together. SODAPOP CURTIS Unsuprisingly, Soda's pretty apperance-obsessed as well, he's like the 19--s version of men using hair masks as shampoo to get their hair shiny and smooth. Of course a lot of times those 'hair masks' are yours. You get along quite well despite the fact that sometimes he uses your stuff like he bought it. Which he probably did, he got it under the guise that it was for you but actually he bought it to test it. He likes to do face masks with you, it relaxes him and he genuinely likes taking care of his skin because he actually had some pretty bad acne in like middle school. You two get along realllly well, probably the best out of all your brothers because of this shared hobby. You do have to worry about some of your stuff going missing though. STEVE RANDLE On a scale of "How much Steve likes you," you're inbetween Pony and Soda. Pony being he's literally trying to blow that kid up with his mind and Soda he's frolicking with. He likes you because you're a Curtis, they're all cool and he likes you better than Pony because you don't give Darry and Soda heart attacks when things happen. You and him don't really interact much, only when he swings by the Curtis house. Sometimes he likes to look at your makeup and stuff but that's really all the interactions you've had. TWO BIT MATHEWS You and Two Bit are twins because you and his sister are twins. Like you two go out and have girls days because you're the only girl-siblings. He'll sometimes tag along because his mom makes him, so he'll buy you two ice-cream and stuff like that and maybe help you do his sister's makeup/face-paint. He genuinely really enjoys how you two get along, and tells you that when he gets really drunk. Because of that, you two have a strong bond. Sometimes he'll take you out some places without his sister, as friends. He's really grateful for your influence and he's also grateful that you're willing to spend time with him and his family. DARRY CURTIS
He secretly really likes the fact that you're well put together, because it shows that the gang isn't influencing you to become a 'bad person,' (for example, drink too much, let yourself go, like that stuff, not that Darry wouldn't love you if you were a tomboy LMAO) It also really reminds him of his mom, how she would spend a good amount of time putting herself together meticulously, sometimes even putting some blush on you and Darry when she caught you two watching for too long. Of course, its hard for him to afford your lifestyle, he's barely scraping by with two jobs and he always feels sooo bad for letting you down when you want to get something. He tries his hardest to make up for it with quality time, but you remind him that even though you really care about your looks, you care more for the family's security and that he doesn't need to 'make up' for the fact that you guys aren't broke because of a new foundation. DALLAS WINSTON To Dallas, you're just another girl. Doesn't matter if you're a Curtis, and/or part of the gang. He doesn't really care much about you, you're just another girl. He's definetly seen you in a 'I would date her' light, but quickly shut that down because a) Dallas is only into dating for one thing, and b) you're a curtis, and Darry would BEAT HIS ASSS. Sometimes you guys get along really well, especially when he's drunk and tired so he just lays on the couch and does nothing while you apply some fancy serum on his face. But other than that you don't talk much, he'll say hi if you see each other outside, but that's about it.

my hc is tht paul and darry were close and darry was genuinely rly popular but when he wasnt around the socs still said shitty things abt him and the greasers? wut is ur hc for how the socs (specifically bob) treated darrel? wut was paul doing abt it?
I defff agree that Paul and Darry were probably like Soda+Steve levels of close, you can’t have a beef as nasty as they do during the rumble without being close first.
Here are my hcs! Bob is near the bottom if you still want him specifically, I just got excited by the question lmfao
- Darry are Paul are absolutely part of the popular cliques at school. They’re football stars and shit, girls are hanging off of them at parties
- The girls probably get a kick out of getting with a greaser just for the thrill of being with a “bad boy” or whatever, they pretty much use him for that and then don’t say hi to him in school if they aren’t like the girlfriends of Darry’s buddies, yk?
- Darry doesn’t really know how to feel about that, but in the end he doesn’t really care much about what the girls at school think of him. He’s a teenage boy, if she’s down, he’s down
- I would honestly venture to say that Bob and the Socs still do say shitty things about the greasers even WITH Darry around to hear. And then they'll kind of look at Darry and be like "Yeah but you don't count, man. You're barely even a greaser" or "You don't act like you're from the East side or anything."
- I honestly don’t think he’s saying much to defend the greasers, but he’s def not joining in on the verbal beat down. He'll be silent for as long as it lasts, and if someone tries to get him to talk shit about his side of town he'll just shut it down with smth along the lines of "I don’t really notice tbh” and that’s usually the end of that
- He honestly did used to care how the Socs saw him before his parents died, but he wasn’t going to betray his side of the tracks either
- As for Bob, I think him and Paul were buddies so by extension Darry hung out with him a lot. Imo Bob was absolutely the one starting shit and antagonizing Darry to his face, which is what sparks the “Darry’s one of the good ones” comments bc yeah the Socs actually do like Darry, but they don’t like the greasers. The mental gymnastics goes crazy on the West side
- Where Paul is concerned, he’s defending Darry and maybe Pony and Soda, but that’s where he draws the line. He’s not sticking his neck out for Two-Bit or Dally or even Johnny, and especially not for any greasers he doesn’t know
- And I mean that’s where Paul and Darry’s deterioration probably starts. Darry’s been fine with his side of town getting ridiculed for four years, but during senior year he’s kind of just tired of it when college is right around the corner. He would feel like he’s grown up at least a little bit while everyone else is still an underclassman about it
- All of those feelings accumulating and then his parents die and he just stops making an effort. To hang, make plans, or reach out
This is all the result of just saying what comes to mind when I think of the question, so honestly it could change the more into Darry’s high school life I get. But these are my initial thoughts!
Thanks for the ask!<3

I ain’t the best writer, it’s real hard to write one shots 🙏
Everything was a mess, and he wasn’t only talking about the apocalyptic world. The surviving group he was currently with clashed together constantly, with their arguments, or different opinions on what they should be doing instead. But they always worked together properly when it’s most important.
But glory, he really wished Darry and Sodapop were here with him.
He was home that day when they left for work, along with Two Bit, who had offered to take care of him while they were out, quietly reading a book on the couch. They had said they would come back soon enough, but they never did.
He could understand why now however. During one of their searches, they had stumbled upon the DX station, hoping that there were some food that they could take, and even better yet, his brothers was hiding out in here. He was right. Not in the way he wanted it to be.
His mind constantly flashes him with pictures of his brother’s decomposed, rotting bodies, hissing and snarling towards him. He remembers his violent trembles, as he can no longer recognise Sodapop, the one who he was so close to, the one who he told everything, his movie star appearance was no longer of that sort. His skin was a sickly colour, a mixture of brown and grey that lingered the smell of rotting flesh. Darry being the exact same way. They were barely decomposed by the time they had found them.
One thing he could never forget however, before they were shot dead, was their position. Sodapop being cradled by Darry in a hidden room of the DX station, where they had been hiding out. Obvious marks of a zombie bite on them.
Finding the last bit of comfort between brothers before they die. He kills them so they would never have to live as these monsters.
He still constantly gets nightmares of the bullet shooting clean through their brains, with blood and brain splattering everywhere.
He was knocked out of his thoughts when a hand was placed onto his shoulder, gripping tightly. “Something on your mind?” Only to look up and see Tim Shepards eyes peering down on his.
Tim, Curly’s older brother, had found him along with the rest of his gang when they were in the midst of being surrounded by the undead. And since that day, they had stuck and been through everything together. Especially with the walkers and the constant raiders that come to try to steal their weapons, food, gas, everything they had that were useful.
Ponyboy had always thought of Tim Shepard to be an alley cat, hungry and restless, and a guy who will do anything necessary to get something or survive. His and the Shepards gang always had a mutual relationship, but he was always warned not to be affiliated with them by Darry, as he might end up in real deep trouble if he were to go along their schemes.
It doesn’t exactly stop him from hanging out with Curly Shepard, however. He wonders how he is now, last he heard, he was in the reformatory. He sort of missed him.
Ponyboy hoped he was okay.
He looked up to see that they were walking behind a bit from the rest of the group, who seemed to be talking amongst themselves, meaning it gave them time to talk without any distractions or eavesdroppers. Biting his lip nervously, he peered back up to make eye contact with Tim. “I’m okay.” Was all he responded with.
Tim wasn’t at all like Sodapop, he was a greaser but not like them. He was a real street hood and criminal who was friends with Dally, even if they do fight each other a lot. It wasn’t like he felt afraid to tell Tim anything, but he wasn’t easy to talk with either. Despite all they’ve gone through, all the people he witnessed being killed, both socs and greasers, being saved by the group time and time again, they would’ve become closer. And he truly did, especially with Tim.
But he could never replace his big brothers. Nobody would.
With an affirming nod, Tim calls back the rest of the group in order to get their attention. It had been only a few months since the apocalypse had started, and they were beginning to think that Tulsa wouldn’t be so safe anymore. Sure it had good enough buildings to hold down a fort and keep the undead away, but what were they going to do for food and drinks?
During the first few everybody had collectively brought everything they could, but now it was starting to run out. There wasn’t enough ammo for their guns anymore. Relying on close combat would be too risky when it comes to big herds, you’ll be a big fool to even try it.
But Ponyboy had dreaded when they talked of leaving town, possibly the entire state itself, but they couldn’t. This was all he has ever known, with his parents. With his brothers.
He wished he could properly say goodbye.
