Hao is such a chaotic force romantically lol

He acts very very very confident

But he is not 

He’ll talk a huge game to the other boys

“I’m so smooth and charming, I could date anyone I want!”

“Then why aren’t you dating anyone?”

Finally one day DK decides to put Hao to the test

Minghao sits in the corner of the cafe, waiting for your shift to end

His heart is pounding the whole time

He looks up every once in awhile to watch you work 

You were so bright and kind to every customer

And you’re practically glowing in the golden lights of the cafe

When your shift is up you practically skip up to his table

“C’mon Mister Minghao, time for you to get me some dinner”

Minghao scrambles out of his chair and follows you out the door

Once you’re outside, you grab Hao’s hand and drag him towards the restaurant you have in mind

Hao is completely infatuated with you

How you’re smiling brightly under the street lights

You tell him excitedly about the restaurant you’re going to and how it’s one of your favorites

He just nods happily

Once you’re both finally settled in the restaurant, Minghao finally speaks up

It’s mostly to ask you questions about you

He finds out that you’re a university student, and what your major is

You tell him all about your family and friends and goals and dreams

Then you turn the conversation back to him

He shyly tells you about Seventeen and what that’s like

He beams as he talks about the boys and you find it absolutely adorable

“Can I see you dance sometime?”

He freezes 

“Would you even want to?”

“Of course I would, Hao! You talk about it so passionately, I want to see you in action!”

“I mean, I was gonna spend some extra time in the practice room this weekend...”

“Cool, it’ll be our second date then!”

Minghao is absolutely glowing when he gets home

“I’m guessing the coffee shop was good?” Jeonghan asks as he and Coups stare at his dazed face

“Huh? Oh yeah... it was fine”

For the rest of the week, Hao practices dances he could show you

When the day finally comes, he’s so nervous

He keeps watching himself in the mirror, worried that he looks ridiculous

When you finally come, he’s already pretty worn out

You sit with your back to the mirrors as you watch one of the dances he’s been working on

In the midst of his thoughts about doing well enough to impress you

He gets a passing thought that the image of you sitting in front of the wall of mirrors watching him dance is one that he could get used to

Once the song is done, you jump up excitedly

“Minghao that was amazing!!! You have to teach me something!!!”

He grins as you grip his arms and jump up and down

“Um ok, have you ever danced before?”

“Not once!”

He laughs at how brightly you say it

“Ok, then we’ll try something basic first”

The two of you spend the rest of the day dancing around, laughing when you mess up

You’re both exhausted by the time you actually make your way through a simple dance

You sit on the floor of the dance practice and drink water

“So, Mister Minghao... Any ideas for our third date?”

Romantically, you hit him like a hurricane

Every day is a new adventure with you

He thought he was outgoing

But you’re honestly down to do anything at any time

It changes his life honestly

Every moment is new and exciting

And while he’s with you, it’s never scary, just fun

Bc not only are you taking him out of his comfort zone

You always take him seriously

You listen closely to all of his problems and concerns

You never make fun of him, not even a little 

You always proudly show off his art and praise him for it

You two like to go to couples art classes 

There was that one time when you came home from a rough day

And you just kind of leaned across from him on the counter and rant 

You admit that you’re struggling with school and the idea that you’re enough to accomplish what you want to

He silently takes out his paint and every time you complain about yourself, he writes one of the things he loves about you with paint on your skin

Then he stops waiting for you to say doubtful things and just continues writing kind thing after kind thing across your skin

When he runs out of space, he pushes up your shirt and continues to write

Then as he’s simply painting pretty designs up your stomach, he climbs on top of you and pushes you back to kiss you slowly and deeply and sweetly

Let’s just say he makes it very hard for you to doubt yourself

And you do the same for him

You honestly don’t even give him the chance to start doubting himself

You’re always supporting him in everything he does and praising his artistic creations

He loves talking to you after concerts 

Because you always have something new to say and you’re always overly excited about their performance and you explain your best parts with giant gestures and loud words

And he just sits there giggling at you

If you mention something about one of the other boys

He’ll get pouty until you talk about him again

some heihua for the soul

so the update for Binding isn’t happening today bc my brain is complete mush after trying to aggressively finish my thesis yesterday and i decided to give my brain two days off bc of that. also, i promised @ashenwren some time to beta read the ending part (which they already did but! now i need some time with it myself) so i am leaving everybody to wait until saturday. 

meanwhile, i am offering yall a sneak peek/first look at my heihua fic which is very loosely tied to my pingxie. basically, this is just me playing around with hei xiazi as a character and his and xiao hua’s dynamic’s more... tender side. 

i know that @jockvillagersonly and ashen have already read this which has been amazing so thank you for your love ♥ but take this again ^^ also thanks to @cross-d-a for listening to me ramble about heihua and sharing this idea with me. and thank you to @i-am-just-a-kiddo​ who i’m doing all of this for ♥ you are the best parent-in-law for these two and this fandom!

It’s a bad week for him. 

First, it’s the girl he finds while raiding a warehouse full of smuggled weapons and possibly, most likely, drugs. She’s maybe twelve, eyes wide and hair messy, bones poking her skin where Hei Xiazi can see her elbows flashing under her short sleeves. There are bruises around her wrists and burn marks on the inside of her arms. She doesn’t speak but she doesn’t have to, all of her screaming of experiences worthy of a hundred years instead of a dozen. 

She presses her face into her hands when Hei Xiazi fires his gun, and he feels something come loose inside of him at the broken, aborted noise she makes that rings louder than the shot itself. 

Hei Xiazi carries her kicking and screaming out of the warehouse, leaving behind the slowly ending gun fight and the smell of gasoline. She only goes silent once Hei Xiazi puts her down, flinching bodily away from him but not going far. She hovers, fingers slowly curling around the hem of his long jacket while they wait, shoulders hunching against the cold. Hei Xiazi offers her his jacket with a smile, buys her a sandwich which she then throws up, and helps her into a hospital once they’re safe to leave. 

No one else stays behind with her. All the other people they found from that warehouse scattered as soon as the fight began and only she remained, lost in the thought of having to leave the premises that had become her world. She has no family, no house, no money. Hei Xiazi watches her leave with the social workers, bones of her wrists like twigs threatening to snap even after some proper meals and eyes so big they seem to swallow the light around her. She still hasn’t said a word. Hei Xiazi doubts she ever will. 

Her pale face looks like a ghost as she turns to give Hei Xiazi one last glance over her shoulder, and that’s what she becomes to him once he goes home and puts that warehouse out of his mind. It’s hard and he feels himself haunted, and whatever it was that got loose in his chest rattles like the tail of a snake. 

Then, he hears about Su Wan. Hears about the mission that went south with the three youngsters. Hears about Su Wan getting hurt. 

It isn’t anything new in their line of business to get hurt, to even die. When he first met the boy in the desert, he predicted he would find him six feet under after only a day. There was too much softness in Su Wan, too much trust, too much naivete. He had a big brain and clever ideas but his core was gooey, leaking out in way too telling bursts, leaving nothing hidden. 

Su Wan had reminded Hei Xiazi of young Wu Xie. Even his floundering with his knife had reminded him of Wu Xie. Even his adaptability had been annoyingly similar to Wu Xie’s, and Hei Xiazi had questioned his taste in students. At least the boy had paid better. At least the boy hadn’t been wishing to die. 

He had not expected, after knowing all of that, to experience such fear when he first heard that Su Wan had gotten himself stabbed and had almost bled out in a cave, with only Li Cu and Yang Hao to look after himself and a saving bed of a hospital hours away. His hands had shook, making it impossible to hold anything while trying to breathe, and he had quickly been reminded of the little girl, torn open and going a bit feral just because she didn’t know what to do.

It was a surprisingly new thing to care. As surprising as the fact that he still knew of such things.

“I thought I had taught you better, kid,” he says as he goes to the hospital, in the middle of the night of all things, having to cover Su Wan’s mouth so that he doesn’t scream and wake up the better half of the city. The boy’s eyes are wide and heartbeat rapid under his fingers where he can feel it pulsing against Su Wan’s jaw. Then the boy is scrambling at his fingers to speak from between them. He pulls his hand away. 

“Hei-ye!” the boy whispers fervently, like an anchor casted in water. “I thought you were out of the country!”  

“I was until yesterday when I heard that you got stabbed,” he explains, voice leaning more towards mockery than any actual care. Su Wan knows what that means. The boy knows more than anyone else has ever known about a person like Hei Xiazi. It’s a strange thing but Hei Xiazi has come to almost like it. 

“I’m fine!” the boy chirps, lighting up like a lightbulb. Hei Xiazi helps him sit in his bed, snatching a chair for himself from the corner, and then evaluates the damage. Su Wan is smiling while a thick roll of bandages circle his stomach. There are at least thirty stitches there, curving along his side. Some more adorn his bicep where he tried to evade another blade. A darkening bruise is making his cheek swell, casting an extra shadow under his chin. 

Hei Xiazi sighs and closes his eyes when Su Wan starts to tell the story, his voice a soft whisper made even softer with lingering sleep. The beep of the machines tell Hei Xiazi the boy is alive. The painful thrum of his own heart tells him he’s alive too. 

Su Wan falls asleep holding onto Hei Xiazi’s sleeve. He cannot remember how the boy got the leather between his fingers but prying his hold away is like bending steel. It feels impossible and burns equal amounts. 

Finally, he slips back into the cold night. 

He doesn’t go to his apartment, the one he’s currently occupying, his few belongings strewn across the floor and nothing making the place feel like his. Even after years and years and years, some part of him still feels sick at the thought of emptiness. He’s tried his hardest to carve his bones empty and chest clean but after each year spent alone or with someone or wanting, he realizes it’s a battle he cannot win. There’s something terribly strong under his ribs. It refuses to die even before his curse of immortality and the knowledge that goes beyond his comprehension. It refuses to die even when facing the cold, cruel world. 

The walls surrounding the Xie Manor are high but not high enough to keep him at bay. If they were, he would’ve never come here. He would’ve never returned, not after he once left. 

Climbing up the wall of the manor to the third floor makes his lungs burn, but then he’s pushing the window open already, stepping silently onto the polished floor. 

“Xiazi,” a familiar voice says, not even pretending to sound sleepy. “It’s three in the morning. Is it really a suitable time to be visiting the head of Xie family?”

Hei Xiazi smiles, shrugging off his leather jacket and placing it onto the back of a chair beside him. The air in the room feels chilly with the window open but he likes to hear the noises from outside and he likes the line of silver painted onto the floor and across the luxurious double bed. He likes that he can pretend his vision is so clear just because of the moon. 

“Hua’er-ye,” he says back, voice like honey because he loves to tease this man and loves how the tone makes his perfect eyebrows pinch. “Are you sure this isn’t a dream?”

“I would dream you naked at least, not dripping mud all over my floors.”

“As you wish,” he says and reaches for his own belt before moving closer to the bed, toeing his shoes off on the first two steps.

Xie Yuchen is warm but firm when Hei Xiazi meets his body, crashing into his lips and then slipping hands down his silk covered spine. He hums, hiding his laugh. He’s always loved the absolute brilliance and practicality and strength of this man but under all that, Xie Yuchen is a little spoiled. A rich family head. A powerful man with more money than Hei Xiazi could possibly imagine. He’s never tried, not really caring. For all his acting, he’s never gone for Xie Yuchen for his money. 

He takes care of helping Xie Yuchen out of his expensive pajamas, kissing him wet and shivering after each uncovered piece of skin. There is something beautiful about Xie Yuchen in the stark light of the moon, eyes burning bright and the line of his throat like an invitation. Hei Xiazi wishes he could tell him that, sometimes, but he’s preferred to seal his lips. His poetry would not suit the ears of Xie Yuchen. 

He’s never been one for pretty words, crude and almost barbaric instead, tongue made out of barbwire and mind of a strategic plan. Between them, all those edges exist in harmony, and so he’s never felt the need for anything more, enjoying the simplicity of just being. 

Ironically, as the sun is already rising, coloring the horizon with its colorless light, he still descends into words. It’s like something is pulling them out of his chest, and when there’s a force outside of his control beneath his ribs, he cannot do anything but unravel upon Xie Yuchen’s white satin sheets.

“There was this girl,” he says, looking into the still remaining dark – or as dark as anything can be for his eyes, that comfort taken from him ages ago. “I saved her from a warehouse a couple of days ago. She didn’t speak, couldn’t eat because she’d been kept hungry for so long. There were burn marks on her arms, probably from cigarettes or a lighter. They told me she was thirteen. She didn’t look like she was thirteen.”

Xie Yuchen’s hands are on his back, brushing lightly against his shoulder blades, drawing something there. His heartbeat is steady under Hei Xiazi’s cheek and his skin burns, burns, burns. He remembers how he had looked at that girl in the eyes and seen himself there. 

“I remember,” he says quietly, closing his eyes, “feeling the same burn on my skin. I have no memories of when or why but I know there were cigarettes. I know her pain. I know the scars.”

“Were you a child back then?” Xie Yuchen asks, his body a strong, sturdy thing against him. A rock. A mountain. He never thought he would feel lost in this world but there is something about himself in every child he’s ever saved, in all of their wide, fearful eyes, in all of their screams, their desperate fight, their bared teeth and messy heads of hair. There’s something about him in all of their thrumming, wild panic, like a bird under their skin; in their desperation to get away, to find a place to belong, to find safety and food and trust. To heal a body that has not been their own or has felt like an enemy or a liability or a curse. 

He cannot remember the time he was a child, cannot remember the time before he went blind and began to see too much, cannot remember being anything but this eternal man on the outskirts of the world. He cannot remember ever having a family or feeling the absence of it. 

But then, there’s this echo in his mind. It rings back from the eyes of every child he’s ever tried to help. He thinks, maybe, he still knows how he lost. 

“I only remember being burned,” he says. “I only remember the pain and being afraid. And isn’t that a stupid thing to remember when it could be so many things?” He laughs, as much as it can be a laugh when something twists inside of his chest, bringing tightly together that something that was let loose. He chokes on it, feeling his voice die down. Xie Yuchen turns beside him so that they both lie on their sides, looking at each other. The line of the moon falls over Xie Yuchen’s hips and almost lands on Hei Xiazi’s waiting hand. 

“Bad things linger,” Xie Yuchen says with a certainty of a man who knows this to be true. During the years, Hei Xiazi has learned a couple of the bad things that happened to this proud man. “But you are turning them into something good.”

“And how much does it change to save a couple of children?” he huffs, tired of the heart that cannot leave him at peace.  

“For them, everything.”

why you should watch douluo continent

the drama adaptation is such a good rendition of “soul land” and stayed true to the plot line and character development. it was fast-paced (perfect for me) but may be confusing for those who don’t know the story. i personally love the donghua, and i think the drama did an adequate job of portraying everything in their own way 😁 (read at your own discretion; this contains spoilers)

things i liked:

initially, i didn’t like the dreamscape bc wtf is it doing there? why is he hearing his mom’s voice in episode 1 (it just kills the entire momentum of the plot); and then after i got to episode 39... fucking ep. 39, i knew the dreamscape needed to be there in order to save tang san’s life; mr. wang who wrote the script, props to you.

the cgi 🥰✨ i had really low expectations bc if there’s shitty cgi like cql... i wouldn’t be able to handle it. but it’s so good ??? please, i know the ape soul beast was small and funny looking (bc they had to spend money on the water dragon lmao), but other than that, it was so good and how each and every character’s powers were able to shine

le outfits + makeup - they’re not super pale 😭😭😭 finally !!! and the outfits are so nice, SO SO NICE, each and every character holy hell

how they changed hu liena’s (aka. qian renxue) role in the drama --- she’s my fav female antagonist; she’s so good here, her character was annoying at first, but she’s so dynamic and independent, and just wants to impress her mom. you see her helping tang san + his squad during the last 5 eps because SHE CARES about her mom despite her strict upbringing 🥺 her and tang san have a ship name called 糖葫芦 (candied hawthorns) and i think that’s so cute hehe

the seven devils 😂 i loved the seven devils in this adaptation almost as much as i loved them in the donghua; each and every character got their own storyline, they’re not boring nor do they draw attention away from the tang san’s main plot, and you see so much development (esp. in ou sike and dai mubai)

headmaster, da shi, and er long trio! 黄金铁三角 iconic and they captured it so well 😭 they chose the actor for the headmaster so freaking well i’m screaming! he loves money so much and his little facial expressions as a third wheel is everything, the comedic relief! and da shi... i see y’all thirsting over calvin chen okay 😌 he’s so much better in the drama tbh & er long is majestic and amazingly powerful and cunning, i love her !!! and props to luo san pao, the best doggo ever!

the seniors! they basically perfected tang san’s relationship with dugu bo... it was antagonistic at first, but then they became besties over poison 😭❤️ i loved dugu bo’s character in here bc he was so funny & didn’t get social cues LMAO // the ape soul master was brief but he honestly made my day with how much he respected the tang family & how he took care of his father back in the day // 七宝琉璃 squad was also 🥰 (less hot than in the donghua lol) but they also somehow made jian yeye the comedic relief? i love how they’re so accepting of ou sike despite him being a support soul master

tang san’s mom - i can only hear her voice, but she made me cry & i love her for that

tang san ❤️❤️❤️ xiao zhan’s voice over just blended in with his character & it was just so wonderful; tang san in the donghua was smart, so fucking smart, cunning, but the kindest at heart; xiao zhan truly portrayed that and my most memorable part was when da shi said “your only flaw is that you let your emotions get the best of you” (this is so important), and you see him later try to control his emotions and not act rashly, especially when confronted with 时年 & 比比东 --- also crying scenes 11/10

bibi dong powerful, POWERFUL WOMAN, props to her voice actress, i got chills when she said, “你根本没有资格知道” // tang hao, wow he’s just like i imagined, but i wish he was a little more emotional in ep. 1 bc the blue silver plant in tang san is essentially his lover’s martial soul

how the concept of family was generated within the shi lan ke academy squad 🥺 it’s such a feel good drama, istg, makes you so happy when you’re having a bad day ✨

things i didn’t like:

xiao wu’s character portrayal (the scriptwriter’s fault, not xuanyi) // i honestly let it slide for the first 10 episodes bc i usually start falling for a character later on, it’s normal; but drama xiao wu didn’t fulfill the 小舞姐 in my heart 😔 i get that many people like her, but it’s not the same! xiao wu in donghua is beautiful, independent, and outspoken, BUT MOST OF ALL HER LOVE FOR TANG SAN IS OBVIOUS, you don’t need to say “一起去” every other line in the drama; i think this could have been remedied if they stayed true to the storyline and let tang san enter the secret dimension alone, bring the mythical herbs back, and have xiao wu prick herself to activate 相思断肠红 (they completely butchered the significance of the flower i’m so angry; fyi: the flower can only belong to you if your heart loves one person --- there’s the most beautiful backstory to the flower but drama douluo said nah). also, drama xiao wu is so clingy and she started exposing herself from the beginning... no momentum build-up whatsoever 😔 it’s 斗罗大陆, not 斗罗大陆: 小舞传 and sometimes it felt like she was being so insistent on following tang san around, i’m just 😓 

the whole canghui academy scheme --- it was confusing for 10 eps straight until they got to the end of it, but I guess the drama wanted to add that part in because they wanted to focus less on the competition and more on 变异武魂 (the mutated martial souls) in order to defeat bibi dong

how the beginning was so confusing 😫 i wish they just stuck with child tang san remembering his past life as a disciple in tang clan & then learning 玄天宝录 on his own bc that was such a great part of his character development + understanding of soul masters/their weaknesses; and the fact that he would rely less on his parents 

the kiss + confession at ep. 40 // could have done w/o it or even a simple forehead kiss; the confession from tang san was way too quick considering there’s little to no emotional build-up towards that moment (other than bibi dong doing all the work like the queen she is) and there’s no surprise element either? like we’ve been knew she’s a soul beast since ep. 5 🥲 and the kiss was awkward & like i said, sanwu’s love doesn’t need words or actions to confirm... it’s this innate thing that the audience should be able to see (if the scriptwriters focused a little more on BIG plot points that boost the sanwu relationship, then it would have been perfect) ^^ i wish they spent more time on the romantic aspect of the relationship bc even after 30 eps, they seem like siblings when OP said They’re Not.

overall thoughts:

this is purely my opinion, so please take it with a grain of salt! the cons imo were minor except for the development of the sanwu relationship; it doesn’t seem like romance to me 😔 but hopefully it’ll get better in the (maybe) second season when they take some time apart to grow? i’m surprised how much they referenced the original story (characters and such), and i am thoroughly impressed with WHERE THEY ENDED IT, and how they rounded all the new/old plot points together in a way that makes sense. i also don’t hate any of the antagonists, which is why this drama is so lighthearted and easy to watch. it’s not emotionally taxing (sans tang san crying bc xz breaks me heart 😭💕), and safe + enjoyable to watch with family! you’re gonna miss it once it ends, and i think that makes a drama successful 😁 also i’m not gonna go into depth about the mysterious ending bc i might spoil it for those who want to watch the donghua LMAO (but if you want to know my theories, shoot me an ask)

Oh, Xuanji’s face! Same! I’d be more worried about Sifeng’s punishment than my own. She’s getting grounded in a dank cave, but idk Like Palace is the type to throw murderous beasts at its disciples as a test so.

Haha, she is right in that the barrier thing has been weakening. But it seems there’s another reason she was able to get inside. Wow, what a drastic step up from ‘you’re grounded’ to ‘imprisoned forever’.

Oh, so we lost a mask and a snake but gained a mysterious shard that triggers memories from a thousand years ago? Worth it?

Linglong, ahhaha your plan…has some flaws. She can’t cry normally, now you’re pressuring her to cry on demand, it’s definitely not going to work lol. Oh no she rubbed chili powder under her eyes?? I mean…you can definitely elicit tears without being sad lol… At least she tried…

It’s Sifeng’s turn! Cheng Yi does the ‘beaten and tormented’ look justice haha. I am enjoying the subtle shifts in his expressions, it’s something he did well as Zhang Qiling in TLT2. Also, supportive friend! Encouraging him to get into dangerous situations to save him from getting tortured (and driven to suicide, yikes), I can see that coming into play later…there is no way he’s getting that mask out of the lake.

There is like a small tornado in this darn cave, geez. And it’s snowing?? Ah, I really like the makeup they used to make Xuanji’s lips look cracked and bleeding.

So. HOW DID YOU GET BACK HERE, SIFENG?? Is no one guarding this lake? Someone just broke into it! Yeah, I think you guys need to actually guard this thing if it’s so important. Or get a security system that lets you know someone’s there before they actually breach the barrier.

Aw, Xuanji thinks of Sifeng while she’s still in the middle of her own punishment.

Why is she shaking so much? It’s FREEZING IN THERE THAT’S WHY. No one gave her so much as a coat, geez.

WHAT SHE CAN TASTE NOW? I will admit, I got all happy and fluttery right along with the characters haha. That was a good moment. But also, how do you make congee taste bad?? At worst it’ll just be really plain…oh. Unless you burn it. Yeah, that’s possible in the old pots they used to make it in.

Look at everyone putting their heads together to try and get Xuanji to cry lol. Sifeng helpfully left his book (and instructions!) laying around for them to find. How does he keep sneaking around? Is this a skill of his or something…

Lol, her sister and senior brother are a pretty fun duo with all of their scheming. It’s also pretty interesting that they randomly pick from a pool of both juniors and their seniors who are in actuality like…their teachers.

Waaaait. Hao Chen was played by Liu Xueyi, who played Xiao Hua in TLT2?? I didn’t recognize him immediately (it’s been a while since I watched TLT2), but hnnn no wonder I was getting some…strange vibes from that character. I was like ‘is it just me, it’s too…shiny. perfect. smiling. It just. Raises suspicion.’ That actor did a very good job with Xiao Hua’s sort of dual nature - a perfectly calm, harmless smiling man on the outside, ruthless leader on the inside. >.> I don’t know if I trust you, Hao Chen.

Oh, so we do get some background on why their #1 rule is keeping the mask on.

If they were only going to make him stutter for an episode and a half, why did they get him a different voice actor?? (Cowards, let actors voice their characterssss! Unless they have an accent that really interferes. >.> But Cheng Yi has provided his voice for his characters in the past.)

WHY ARE WE ABLE TO GO TO THE LAKE AGAIN.

Xuanji, good on you for not wanting to break the rules again. Sifeng, your plan lol…acting like it wasn’t you who gave them the idea to go for the Gu eagle in the first place.

Cheng Yi, your microexpressions… I really like them. Also, his attempts to shove everyone away is going to fail miserably in the end, it’s only a matter of time before you start caring about everyone lol.

HAHA. Senior brother, being so supportive of Xuanji making friends. But also, everything for the two sisters is making his shifu kind of side-eye him lol. I like how they added that little detail of Linglong shoving food in his mouth, bc just earlier he told Xuanji that he eats all her food to make her happy…it’s the little details that make a world and characters feel more real and less like props.

I would be terrified flying in the air, you would not be able to pry me off your waist lol.

Final Thoughts:

We have moved on from the immediate threat and introduced some consequences to the characters’ actions and subsequently, conflict, in the form of Xuanji potentially getting locked in a cave for the rest of her life simply because she can’t bring herself to cry and Sifeng getting threatened with torture (13 of them) if he doesn’t retrieve his mask or do something big enough for his teacher to overlook it.

Hm, so far, what I like about this emerging character arc of sorts for Xuanji is the theme of growing up and needing to face the consequences of your actions - no longer are you a kid who can be excused on account of age and limited decision making capacity.

Also! I noticed a little motif (?): last episode, Xuanji raised a flag for herself by saying “tears are the most precious things”, and here we find out that Sifeng has a beauty mark/mole by his eye, which is said to mean you’ll have a life full of hardship (aka full of tears)…Fun fact, my mom was born with one and had it removed in her twenties because of that superstition!

…In terms of story, this cannot be good lol.

interesting that they focused on junhao for everybody. can understand he probably has the most different and struggle experience so probably more interesting for dramas sake lol im surprised they dont spend more time on shengen, considering his popularity. 

HAHAHAHAHHAHAHAA JUNHAO FREAKING OUT over the fact that they only learned the dance for 40 mins. LOL thats the level of tyger + kou cong + shengen, i can imagine the struggle of the yang guang nan hai group in comparison AHAHA i just imagine him running down the hall freaking out like HOW DID THEY LEARN THE DANCE IN JUST ONE CLASS WHAT ARE THESE PEOPLE 

lollll “theyre all dachang boys” “theyre all zhang yixing’s students” HAHAHAH you know even though he is slightly struggling compared to the rest, he aint bad and theyre all taking it light hearted with laughter so seems like a good learning environment! and he’s confident he’ll get it LOL thats good! i think thats what makes him so amusing

wow the lyrics are so fitting for lin mo to scream LOL but also ay his vocals?! aw im glad they put in a little rap for shengen and akey! honestly was kinda hoping for more bc they havent had a proper stage together before and i feel like itd be awesome but also junhao and zhan yu vocalization at the end was on point!!

lol all the kids being like zhang pd’s words are so detailed and professional... sigh theyve been missing out until now 

im glad they really pointed out how each member of this team did well! they really all did a great job with each of their parts, and they each got a little part to shine, and when put together, it was a complete performance. im proud of them and happy for them!

aw.... i feel like we’ve been waiting so long to hear lin mo get complimented.... i feel like it’s been since qcyn namanana that we’ve been waiting for him to redeem himself and climb back up to the peak. ugh its been nearly a year and a half. im just so terrified of whats gonna happen next bc im way too skeptical at this point to expect this high to continue, esp with what happened after namanana last time......... but for now, im happy. relieved hes finally getting the recognition he deserves and im happy that hes happy. lol i was also half scared we were gonna get spirit of the knight-ed again with his pink hair (nightmare flashbacks to lin mo and changxi’s deletion from that perf) i dont think ill ever get over that :( i feel like as a lin mo stan, ive been trained to not keep my hopes up and to prepare for the worst bc hes the type of person who just always gets the short end of the stick, it feels like. 

aw the part when they go back to the waiting room and jin fan is waiting for them with an encouraging smile and the whole exchange of "帥的真的帥的" "哇~可以吧" "我沒想到" "那必須的" our leader did them proud :’) 

ugh the part where luo jie calls them and tells them he can’t come back........ heart breaking. i can see why lin ran and xikan would be really affected. lin ran has been luo jie’s go-to since he left and knowing how their usual friendship involves making fun of one another and jokingly complaining about each other, it hits hard when lin ran says he cried his eyes out. it hurts that they didnt get to share the stage again before he left. xikan may not have shared the stage with luo jie during ip, but hes known him since then and has been with him through both rounds here. it interesting bc i feel like the namanana perf was very light hearted on qcyn but i cant see that happening here, esp with their outfits? 

aw shiwei and chaowen taking charge to raise their spirits :’) 

lin ran’s voice fits so well with this song wow! i really like his lines! also lol i didnt know xikan would have abs but okay and tbh im always hesitant about dances with props bc it always is so easy to look messy..... like every slight difference in angle in the way you hold your arms is immediately magnified 

and like sxl’s fan is obviously broken and having performed fan dances myself i know that that’s like the most annoying thing to happen on stage, and can be really difficult to deal with, even tho it happens ALL THE TIME with those types of fans ugh :( 

i mean its super kind of them to leave luo jie’s space empty for him, but its kinda weird to have parts of the audio missing sadly :( and also chaowen’s voice did something weird in the middle there, like its sounds weirdly weak 

wait didnt yixing tell them to close the fan? but they didnt? 

xikan’s facial expressions are perfecttt, good for him! wish they gave more screen time to shiwei during shiwei’s lines lol... but also i cant help but hear lin mo’s voice during that part LOL ugh speaking of which i miss that team dynamic namanana team a on qcyn HAHAHAH hwx being a brat and fjj running around wild and lin mo giving up on them all just laughing like idiots for hours on end while bo yuan just judges them from a corner LOL i love the beginning of the wenxuan and lin mo friendship good times :’)

look, i get it why they wanted to leave the show i really do!! obviously, the show's format is for idols to appeal to the watchers and in the end, it's a popularity contest. in ep 1, gg said he expected to work with producers so i really can't blame him as well as jj for coming in the first place if they were misinformed / lied to about the show's format. and with the missions like the 1 min vid to appeal to the watchers and gain advantages, i can understand why they felt so uncomfortable (1)

however, the show is called THE COLLABORATION for a reason and tbh i was sad that jj said from the start on he wanted to work with gg all the way through, that i can understand. however, that doesn’t mean he can just outright quit the show if their partnership is cut short. minghao basically asked gg as well as jj for PERMISSION to work with gg!! he’s already down bc one of HIS idols turned him down and everyone can tell that he wants to learn and be validated as more than ‘just an idol’ (2)

you’re right! but still i don’t believe they lied to them about how the show was gonna be. I don’t think their managers were going to sign a contract without Reading it. since the beginning if they were so against the show format then they should have left since ep 1. If they wanted to work together only they could have done it outside the show. Something Minghao wouldn’t have the chance to do because he himself say it, the arrangments with the company and stuff would be difficult. jj should have left since ep 1 when he realised he would have to work with other people. With idols, who he seems to hate so much.  i can't feel bad for them in any way even if their management indeed misinformed because they had the chance to left from day 1 not after making a drama party and hurting someone else’s feelings. Minghao is trying so hard. and this is not me just being a carat. i know for personal experience how is to be labeled as something like it has negative connotations and still working your ass off so people can see you’re more than just that and even if you are, that the term isn’t wrong, isn’t something to be ashamed of. I was on vacation with my family last week so I wasn't near my computer. it's so wild hearing him say it was recorder I kinda forget it's a legitimate instrument sometimes. when I was really really little my school gave like first and second graders recorders to play mary had a little lamb on and my brain has just always associated them as a kids thing ever since whoops! LMAO the recorder slander 😂😂 omg!! i had to learn the recorder in elementary school too!! i think i did it up until grade 5 or 6? bc in grade 7 we had to get actual "instruments", so i played the clarinet, which is just an upgraded recorder sdjfcsdnf i always associate recorders with those memes of people playing the recorder badly on purpose :P i totally agree with u!!! i feel like we hear a lot of ballads from woozi bc hes in the vocal u, so it'd be nice to get something more upbeat that he can show off his dancing! :>

car crash tw - yet when mirae was sixteen his dad was teaching him how to drive & mirae had ended up ‘ blacking out ’ long enough to get in a car crash ( he didn’t crash into anyone else…. jsut a tree aha. ) neither were badly hurt !!!!

Huo Dao Fu

Because I am kinda obsessed with him

ooohhh i was so excited when i saw this ask!! i’ve always wanted to think about huo daofu some more bc we see so little of him and he’s just so cool. so i don’t blame you for your obsession haha. i wish you get something out of my ramblings!

(placing under a cut so that everyone doesn’t have to be subjected to huo daofu’s very scrutinizing stare. also, spoiler alert for sand sea ig?)

How I feel about this character

Damn this is difficult. I still remember when I got introduced to Huo Daofu in Reboot and was absolutely livid with him. How he refused to help Pangzi and was just frying some damn dumplings like?? Sir??? There is a dying man at the back of that van, please do something??? But at the same time, I was just about to burst with all of the questions I suddenly had because I didn’t know who he was or who he was to Wu Xie and why he would be Wu Xie’s last resort at the doors of death but. He was so cool? And I instantly wanted to know everything about him imagine my disappointment when I learned so little at the end).

So, after my initial shock had faded, I ended up liking him. He is possibly the coolest character in the whole of DMBJ. I would kill for him, though I think he would kill me instead for that if I ever dared. He’s just so capable. I love how unaffected by everything he is while still caring about others a lot. He’s one of those “Mention an emotion to me and I will run away screaming” -type of people. I adore that. Though I am also very curious about how he ended up being like this.

And then we get to Sand Sea where I was so happy to see him again? Even more so because that version of him was somehow so different! He was being so powerful. I could feel him oozing some kind of commanding aura while still standing by that Chen guy. I knew he was in charge. Everyone else knew he was in charge too. He knew he was going to abandon that man’s ass as soon as possible. 

And then I hated him for Yang Hao because. Yeah well. I guess Yang Hao made his own (bad) choices there but that is not a way to treat anyone in that type of situation. But then there was also the glimpse of care Huo Daofu showed to Yang Hao and? Yeah. he is so complicated. I want to pry him apart. I want to make him spill his every secret so that I can inspect him properly. I want to see more of him because he is just so full of mysteries and I adore him as a very unwillingly willing part of this team. He is doing amazing (especially with the outfits!)

All the people I ship romantically with this character

I don’t know if it can be called shipping but I really do believe that he and Wu Xie were a thing at some point. Maybe sometime a lot before the events of Sand Sea. Maybe they dated for a couple of months and everything about it was very bad and toxic. Maybe they still cared for each other with all the heart they had left at that point. I don’t think they ever loved each other or actually acted like a proper couple with all of which Huo Daofu would call “lovey-dovey bullshit” but I think they got attached. There was some type of security found in the other’s presence maybe. Something good but twisted in colliding like that, in all the bad ways. I don’t know, I just really like the thought. And somehow all their bickering in Reboot and the way Wu Xie says, “There was something between us” (partly because I was not aware of Sand Sea) made me just instantly go, “Ah, so they’re exes.” Also, they make way too many eyes at each other? I have no idea what that is about if not this?? Damn.

My non-romantic OTP for this character

Hmm. Huo Daofu doesn’t really create that many specific bonds but I do adore him as the member of our Desperado Fam in Reboot. He comes to care for those people and they come to care for him. Especially him with Bai Haotian stands out for me because that feels like something that could really bloom. Huo Daofu might appear cold and emotionless but I think no one can stay like that in front of Bai Haotian’s brightness. I also feel like those two could collide mentally? In a way that like, they would really be on the same wavelength with each other? They are both very intelligent and part of some type of organization (army and Warehouse 11, both in the past now I suppose) that has used them and they have run from in a sense? To have this new life? I don’t know. But I feel like they would understand each other.

Then there are Huo Daofu with Yang Hao and Xiuxiu. I talked about him and Xiuxiu in my post for her so you can check that out if you want (here’s a link). I like the thought of them and explained them more there so I’m not wasting more space on that. And I really want to talk about his fragile and very bad, very good relationship with Yang Hao! Because yes, they are absolutely horrible in Sand Sea. I didn’t want that for Yang Hao and I was crying so much as all of that was happening but I do like the thought of them together. They are somehow very similar? Both outsiders and not as confident as they appear to be. Both in some way abandoned by the world. Both ready to do anything to survive. I think Huo Daofu manages to get under Yang Hao’s skin so well because he sees something familiar in this young boy (and absolutely despises it). Their relationship is very complicated and absolutely toxic, but they intrigued me so badly. I wanted to see more of them. I wanted to see them developing together and finding the dynamic that works for both! Because there is that one brief moment in Gutongjing where they are running away from that horrible place where all the Jiumen Association people want to go where Huo Daofu shows concern. He protects Yang Hao. He seems to take him as his responsibility and considers his safety. And that spark was somehow everything I needed to fall in love with their dynamic.

My unpopular opinion about this character

I gotta once again say that I don’t really know about any opinions regarding DMBJ in general, less so about Huo Daofu. I guess he could be someone that people don’t like but I also know that over here, everybody adores him or is at least fascinated by him. One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon

Many things because we see so little of him? I wish we got to see stuff about his army surgeon days. I wish we got to see stuff about him with the Huo family perhaps? I wish we saw something about his childhood or his teenage years. In Reboot, I wish he was even more present because now he just walks in and out every time they need someone with medical skills. And I know that he wouldn’t be there for anything else than his vow as a doctor because he tries his best to keep himself unattached but! I wanted more of him. It would be so interesting to see him with even more different characters. I keep thinking about how he would be with Liu Sang or Xiaoge or Hei Xiazi. I want to understand him more. I want more of him bickering with people and being his bitchy self because I love that for him.
