hhmmmmm this was a hard one!! i think though it’s gotta be when i found my Plushie Kougra (neopets) plush at the goodwill outlet. it felt almost like a miracle because the way those places work is there’s rows of bins filled with a bunch of random items and you pay by the pound! i felt super lucky and fortunate to find him!! (you can see him in the bottom right of this photo:)

🍌: what's your list of dreamies right now?

#42 with any ship you want for the β€œ100 ways to say I love you” prompts?
VERY late but here we go!
42. "Is this okay?"
The weirdest thing about Steve Harrington is that he's weird.
Since the spring break from hell, Eddie has learned that he's been a bit of a dick. For all his railing against stereotyping and conformity, he subscribed to a lot of it under the logic of shielding his little sheep. He's had his assumptions proven wrong again and again since by people like Better Wheeler and Better Sinclair and Steve, and he thinks he's probably a better person for it.
His personal growth isn't the point, however monumental.
He's grown past the point of thinking Steve was just another brainless, clone-like jock, but he's still learning new things about him.
Like, Steve is really loud sometimes. He talks to himself like he forgets that other people can hear him, and one time he started singing "Hammer to Fall" before he realized that the D&D session in the next room over quieted down specifically to hear him. It's more common when they're at his house than anywhere else, but it still happens.
And Steve is a really good cook, but he makes the strangest things. He can make delicious meals out of the most random ingredient combinations - Sinclair and Henderson have, indeed, put this particular skill to the test time and time again - but when Eddie asked if he could make chocolate chip cookies, he looked at him like he had three heads.
But the weirdest thing about Steve, by far, is his thing with touch.
He oscillates wildly between being the clingiest motherfucker on the planet and actively avoiding all human contact. Sometimes, Eddie can see the switch happen in real time, can see how he seeks out contact from Buckley one moment and freezes at a hug from Henderson in the next.
It's weird. Steve Harrington is weird.
But, while Eddie is a touchy guy, he's not a dick. So, he's come up with a new catchphrase, at this point, around Steve.
"Is this okay?" Eddie asks, putting an arm around his shoulders.
"Is this okay?" he asks, grabbing for Steve's hand.
"Is this okay?" he asks, kicking his feet up into his lap.
Steve says "yes" most of the time, and when he says "no," Eddie calmly moves away.
It's that simple, because Eddie isn't a dick.
He's not the only one who does this. Buckley, Better Wheeler, Better Sinclair, and Henderson all do the same thing. They all check first, albeit in different ways.
But Eddie starts to notice a pattern. Soon, he becomes the person Steve asks the most often.
He lightly shuts it down the first time it happens. Tells Steve he doesn't need to ask. Eddie has always been touchy, practically hanging off of all the friends who are okay with him using them like personal jungle gyms.
Steve shrugs, plays it off the way he plays off everything because he's still cool, just not an asshole. But Eddie can see the relief in his face.
There's nothing special about this time. Steve curls into his side without asking, without preamble, as has become more common, while they engage in the weekly pastime of watching a tape Steve "borrowed" from work.
Robin is usually there with them, but she and Nancy finally figured their shit out. They're off doing god knows what.
Probably each other, Steve suggested dryly when Eddie brought it up, causing him to spray Coke out of his nose right when the movie started.
But now? Westley isn't dead, and as he's threatening Humperdinck, Steve whispers, "Is this okay?"
Eddie turns to the side just in time for their lips to meet softly.
And that's when he realizes that months and months of "is this okay" and gentle touches have been his own personal "as you wish."
He's been in love with Steve Harrington for months.
And he thinks that this kiss, and the next, and the next, and the next, are more perfect than anything Westley and Buttercup could ever dream of.
Prompts here.

Touch deprived
Kind touches stop after Damian is two.
He does not know this, because at the time, he is two.
The next time someone touches him without the intent of harming him, it is Richard, and it is a surprise. Damian can't help lashing out; he can't help how his heartbeat races, how his breath quickens, how he can't let go of the dagger he drew out of his boot, how he has to leave. Immediately.
The next few touches are equally as kind, if less of surprise.
Damian hates them. He flees from them equally.
He cringes when his father reaches out to touch his shoulder; he dodges Richard's loving tackle-hugs. Cain is impossible to dodge, and he hates her hair-ruffles in equal measure. Todd occasionally invades his personal space and Damian flees before contact can be made. Brown will attempt "fraternal punching", which is just regular hits aimed at his shoulders and arms, and Damian refuses to let those land out of pride in his skill.
Drake, however, does...nothing. Until he invades Damian's room one afternoon.
(Damian does not get off his bed; if Drake is to attack him, Damian could easily subdue him from his reclined posture.)
"What," Damian snaps. He owes Drake no etiquette.
Drake rolls his eyes; the teenager holds up a gray mass as large as a common pillow, arms straining under the weight. "Got you something, your highness. Here."
Damian ignores the incorrect address. "I do not want it."
"You haven't tried it."
And then something heavy falls on top of him. Damian's eyes widen; he scrambles away, prepared to free himself from...
...A blanket.
Damian stares down at it. The blanket sits on his bed, threatening in its mere presence.
"Try it," is all Drake says, eyeing Damian as if the boy is prepared to attack him outright. (He is.) "It's good for anxiety and stuff."
"I do not have anxiety." Damian would never fail deeply enough to have his mental state affected thusly.
"Sure, kid."
Damian is not a kid. But Drake leaves before Damian can correct him on his misinformed opinion, and then Damian is alone with a...blanket.
And. Damian does tests on the fabric, of course. It comes back clean of touch-based toxins, air-diffused toxins, and anything that isn't cotton fiber and cheap plastic pellets. It's only a blanket.
Only...it's a heavy blanket.
...Out of curiosity, Damian uses it one evening. He looks forward to rubbing its ineffectiveness in Drake's face in the morning, but...
...Damian takes the blanket downstairs for movie night the next week. When Richard doesn't reach out to touch him, Damian dares to lay on Richard's shoulder. The blanket presses down against him the way a hug probably ought to.
He is comfortable through the entire event.

this list is not at all comprehensive, but merely the ones that i have found to be good sources for both/either characters as i've explored the lore over time!! they are not all of equal credibility, with legends and YA novels being less vivid in the mind than the canon ones. i'm listing so many because i like so many, but this is hopefully not intimidating as much as it is a full buffet for you to choose from!!!
also: πŸ’™ Darth Plagueis πŸ’™ it's not about the Team, but it is a phenomenal worldbuilding book for the prequels in general
<!--also also: the tv shows and movies are the most important sources for the characters, more important than the written word: the prequel films and the original trilogy, the clone wars movie, the kenobi show, the 2008 clone wars tv show, some rebels, (and then the legends 2003 clone wars tv show) are best sources for them. it’s a lot to watch but it's the most accurate representation of who they are!--->

Hi! I didn't really know where else to ask this on the internet and I don't have any friends inside my personal circle that also write fsnfiction that I could approach so I decided to place my bets asking here. (Do ignore if this if this doesn't comply with any guidelines that I may have mislooked ^^!)
Do readers know that the author of the fic their reading is having fun? Like, it's one thing to enjoy writing the fic and it's another to enjoy reading a fic but I was always curious if the author's feelings could be felt by the reader, just like an artist does with their work in exhibitions. Like, "ooooh the author knew they cooked here." or some much polite variant of it.
I've always liked writing, but my experience with it so far has only been in journalism and the rules in that area are a lot more rigid :') this had led to be scared of publishing any sort of fanfiction in fear that I have too much fun with it and that it would make it much more tedious and unnecessary for the readers to read through :[
Cheers!
I’ve been thinking about this question all week- it’s a really good question!
I’m not always the best at picking things up but, but as a reader here are some things I do notice in fics!
- I can sometimes notice self-indulgent headcannons and often they’re really fun!
- sometimes I pick up on very specific experiences a character is going through (such as questioning identity or a very specific job situation) and often I guess it to be author projecting. To which I say- same bestie same
- really well written portions of text make me go: woah! The author knew what they were doing!
- crack fics in particular are written to be silly and goofy and you can definitely hear the author having fun with those; similar for other fics too but sometimes it’s covered up by the tone of the fic itself (sad, angsty, ect)
Personally I think you should have as much fun with it as possible and maybe if your worried ask a beta reader to help edit a little once you’ve written it, but really it should be fun-that’s what fandoms for!
I hope this was a decent answer!

Please go into detail about the feld computers
Okay so! We get quite a bit of information about the Feld Playback Experiment, a lot more than I realized before writing this post. The interface of the game (menus, dialogue engine) is actually designed to look like its on a Feld computer. Plenty of other people have talked about that, so I'm not going to go into it here, but I will drop this archived post from the developer's blog for those who are interested.
One thing I do want to highlight from that post:
This computer uses long strips of film for feedback (projection), memory (storing on magnetic tape) and interfacing (submit commands in handwriting) purposes
The strips of film for feedback and the magnetic tape storage are what I was expecting. But using handwritten commands for input was not on my radar! This would be what's called offline handwriting recognition, where text is converted by the computer after it's written (as opposed to online, where you use something like a stylus on a screen and the computer interprets it as you're writing). This is comparatively pretty difficult to achieve, and very error-prone, as everyone's handwriting looks slightly different. Most modern versions of this use machine learning techniques, but I'm assuming these computers used very basic character extraction and recognition engines.
Trant is the only in-game source we get for the Feld computers. And after doing some digging I found him saying something similar:
"As I was saying, the device itself was very elegant, fragile even. One could write directly on the tape using a special chemical solution. The machine would then analyze the handwriting, perform operations and project output onto a white screen. It was a beautiful, delicate thing."
I initially interpreted him saying they "perform operations and project output" to mean that they can process internally, unlike radiocomputers. But this post from the developers is making me think otherwise (thanks @sollandan for sharing this on my other post!):
"These machines have on-air processing. Large prime number stations criss-cross the air. Advanced tape computers use arrays of antennas to sieve through their calculations to perform advanced calculus on site: to run programmes and communicate between the remote corners of the world."
The advanced tape computers being referred to here have to be the Feld computers. I'm still not sure how this kind of processing would work. As far as computing goes, prime numbers are used primarily in cryptography. Maybe their version of 'processing' somehow involves decrypting? People have theorized that the world in Disco Elysium is made of information. If all the information already exists, maybe it's just a matter of decoding it? I'm honestly just spitballing here, but I'd love to hear other people's theories.
Regardless of how they work, it seems pretty clear to me that the Feld computers are meant to parallel the rise of digital personal computers in our world. Like how Trant described them here:
"An elegant folding mechanism of rollers and ferrotape ribbons, portable enough to be a take-it-home solution, revolutionizing business machines, possibly even bringing them to the average consumer."
This reads almost exactly like promotional material for early home computers made by IBM, Apple and such. (Side note: 'ferrotape' here refers to ferric-oxide coated tape, used for magnetic tape storage and popularized for use in computers by IBM in the 50s.)
But in Disco Elysium, this revolution never took place. Computers never made it to the average consumer, as is clearly demonstrated by even the RCM having only limited access to radiocomputers. The only characters I know of with access to computers are Soona (obviously) and Trant (plus his kid), who seems to be much wealthier than the average citizen of Revachol. The thematic significance of this form of communication never becoming available to the masses is not lost on me.
That said, I think ending this on one of the most interesting hints we get on what happened to the Feld Playback Experiment is appropriate:
YOU - "Why did the revolutionaries destroy it?" TRANT HEIDELSTAM - "Who knows? Maybe it was an accident, or maybe they didn't want the technology to end up in the wrong hands. Either way -- they're all gone now, all three versions of the prototype. Nothing but debris and ashes remains inside that building." He takes a step back; the boardwalk creaks mournfully in the wind. SHIVERS - Two seagulls circle in the sky. You look up and think: really? Or was there a fourth prototype that remains hidden in the mausoleums below Coal City?

for the Merlin ask game 11: Random Knights Headcanon? C:
Oh this is such a fun question, thanks for the ask!
I feel like I have not been given enough insight into random Knights + Merlin shenanigans in the series-- like you CANNOT just show me the scene in 4x01 where Merlin aids Gwaine and Percival in stealing food from the kitchens and then NOT ELABORATE FURTHER??
So all of that is to say that I have a headcanon that the Knights like to collab with Merlin a bit and use his easy access to Arthur's personal life (as his manservant) to pull fun pranks on him and whatnot. Wouldn't it be cute if they got Gwen in on it too??

Steddie with "Is this okay?" or "I saved you a seat." for the i love you without saying it thingy, please...if you're still doing it. :)
I'm super late on this, but here we go, anon! Is this okay? was done here, so I'm doing I saved you a seat.
"In the back, Henderson," Steve calls.
Dustin kind of hates that Steve isn't a loser anymore. He's back to his cool self, which means he's wearing sunglasses and doesn't look away from the road as he talks to Dustin.
He sputters. "Why? I get shotgun!"
"You get shotgun unless we're picking up Max."
"Are we picking up Max?"
"No," Steve says, finally turning to look at Dustin over the frames of his sunglasses.
Dustin wants to break them, but if he does that, Steve will probably stop driving him around.
He kind of needs Steve to keep driving him around. His mom is busy, and God knows Mr. Wheeler won't do it anymore.
"Get in the back or don't get in at all," Steve says.
Dustin rolls his eyes and gets in the back of the Beemer. Steve doesn't even ask if he's good to go before he pulls away from his house and down the street.
He doesn't usually, but a little warning would have been nice.
"I thought we were going to the arcade," he says.
"We are."
"No, we're going in the wrong direction."
In the rearview mirror, Dustin can see Steve sigh so heavily his shoulders move.
And he says Dustin is dramatic.
Steve flips his sunglasses onto his head, pushing his hair back, when they get to shadier streets. "I'm doing someone a favor, then I'm dropping you at the arcade to hang out with your friends. That okay?"
Dustin isn't really listening, not as Steve turns the car into Forest Hills. "I thought you said we weren't picking up Max."
"We're not."
"I know you're not very verbose, but could you give me answers that are more than two words?" Dustin snaps.
Steve parks the Beemer in front of Eddie's trailer and turns back to face Dustin. "Is this answer enough?"
He beeps the horn, and thirty seconds later, the front door slams open. Eddie nearly trips right out of it, all black-clothed, gangly limbs, enough metal on his outfit for Dustin to hear him jangling before he even gets in the Beemer.
"Saved you a seat," Steve says as Eddie opens the passenger seat door.
It takes Dustin a full ten seconds to realize that the smile Steve has on his face is the same one he'd use on girls at Scoops.
Wait.
"Thanks, Stevie," Eddie says, words as rushed as he seems to be. "I don't know when my van is going to get out of the shop, and Wayne needs the truck-"
"It's no problem," Steve says.
Stevie?
Dustin, for once, is speechless. The way Steve drives with one hand as Eddie takes his other one and starts toying with it has something to do with it.
When his mouth can finally catch up to his brain, he asks, "How long have you two been dating?"
"What?" they say.
Eddie drops Steve's hand like it's burning him, and Steve nearly brake-checks them in the middle of Main Street.
"We're not-"
"Why did you-"
"He doesn't-"
"I-"
"Arcade, Henderson!" Steve yells, cutting off the conversation completely. "Get out, have fun with whatever quarters your mom gave you, get a ride with someone who isn't me, thanks!"
"You aren't-"
"Get out or I will keep driving this car with you in it," Steve warns.
Eddie stares, dumbfounded, between Dustin and Steve. His eyes move like he's watching a tennis match.
"Okay," Dustin says, throwing his hands up. He gets out of the car, and not five seconds after he shuts the door, Eddie and Steve start talking.
Loudly.
He'd stay, but he's already late.
He goes into the arcade, straight to the Dig Dug machine where the rest of the party is waiting.
"Dustin, where were you?"
"Did you guys also think Steve and Eddie were dating, or was that just me?"
Max looks away from the machine, causing her to die in the game. "They're not?"
"Apparently."
"When did you find that out?" Lucas asks, looking a little distracted.
"I think things might have changed since then," Lucas says, pointing to the window.
All of them rush to it and look outside. The Beemer is still in the parking lot. Eddie and Steve are still in it, and they're-
"Oh, God, no."
"This is like watching my parents kiss."
"Why Steve?" Mike moans, letting his head drop against the windowpane again and again. "Why did he have to pick Steve? I thought Eddie was better than this."
"It's kind of sweet."
They stare in silence. It's like a car wreck. It's impossible to look away.
Max shakes her head. "You guys made me waste a quarter on Dig Dug. I'm going back to playing."
"Hey, wait up!"
The rest of them rush back. Dustin is the last to look away.
And he laments the fact that he's never riding shotgun again.
Prompts here.

Medical story for you! When I was two years old, I went to a family friend's house and was extremely impatient about the whole "you have to wait for the bunny to be taken out of the cage before you pet it" thing. I stuck my fingers through the bars of the cage and - as it turns out - baby fingers look a lot like carrots! It bit a good portion of my finger off. I don't remember much, but apparently I was crying in the ambulance saying "I wanna hold the bunny." My mom, nearly hysterical, asked the doctor at some point if I was young enough to grow the finger back (idk where she got that idea) and the doctor laughed at her, bringing forth more tears. My mom also offered to cut off her own finger if it could somehow be surgically given to me. Moral of the story is my mom is awesome but also don't stick your hand in the cages of strange animals. Also some doctors are mean sometimes.

Would it be rude to ask an author how sad of an ending an ongoing story will be? I don't like permanent major character death stories or Greek tragedy levels of sad ending stories and it's one of the ways this story I'm really enjoying could end up going. There is no indication in the tags or author's notes from what I've seen. Idk I just don't want to be mean or discouraging cause I love the story soo much!!!!!
To be honest, I’m not entirely sure; I know everyone will have widely varying opinions on this which means that it’s a very good question!
On one hand, authors aren’t generally fans of being told what to do or not to do in the comments as that’s not really the place for such things, on the other hand- if it’s a genuine question I don’t really see why not?
I think it really comes down to tone and context:
β€˜Woah! I love your story! [character/concept] is one of my favorites and you do it so well!
Out of curiosity, may I ask how sad you intend the ending to be?/genq (I’m sensitive to some endings and didn’t notice anything in the tags and as such wanted to be able to prepare myself; if you’re willing to share)
I love this story and am always so excited to see an update notification in my inbox!
Many many kudos!’
^something like this would be, I think, pretty well received by the author and understandable as it’s coming from a place of good intentions and is made clear as such
Of course, if it does end up being a tragedy for the ages, you might have to stop reading, which would be unfortunate but there’s really nothing you can (or should) do to change it. If it turns out to be the case, leave an β€œExtra kudos!” On the last chapter you read and walk off without further comment- leave on a high note, and hey- bookmark it and maybe one day you’ll be able to come back and revisit the story!
Note: to everyone commenting and sharing their own experiences and opinions, please, above all else, be kind, both to commenters and authors <3

Favorite Mass Effect game?
Also preferred Shepard?
Ooooo, I think Mass Effect 2 because I got to romance Garrus and that was the main goal for me but I did really enjoy Mass Effect Andromeda. But the first game was super good too, I will spiral lol. Which ones were yours?
I think Jane's super hot, so like, female Shepard but also I really liked my Shepard because she was a single mom in my head and it's a whole backstory. I haven't played Mass Effect in years, but maybe I'll draw her one day.

Wait so his name is titian... at 1st I read that as titan???? What does titian mean?
all of the fusions names are plays on the italian renaissance theme the boys have!! (also sorry im using your ask to answer for all of them lol)
titian is named after titian, the italian renaissance painter! it looking like 'titan' was a fun bonus, hehe. parmigianino sounded like the cheese and was apparently a natural talent and prodigy, which i thought fit. he also had an interest in magics, coincidentally!
galileo was italian but not renaissance... but WAY too funny of a fit to not use. big space guy. inventor. donnie loves the dude. galileo. (and also had a youngest brother named michaelangelo..?!)
fra angelico was early renaissance painter and apparently pretty universally beloved, caravaggio was wayyy later and fought people in public. constantly. with swords
...newtons kinda cheating, though. he's not italian OR renaissance. but i thought his whole scientist/philosopher/alchemist/artist deal would fit (and also that having the 'laws of motion' guy with a yo-yo would be funny. mainly that.)
