Saw Hadestown last night, my thoughts [SPOILERS]:

The show starts with Hermes coming out, flashing his sparkly vest, and making sure the actors and stuff are ready before starting Road to Hell

The way Hades and Persephone just sit on the balcony for the first few numbers, watching the people, like the gods do

Orpheus tried to give Eurydice a match at the beginning!!!

Eurydice has on summer clothes under her huge warm coat, accommodating the sharp weather shifts

OH ORPHEUS’ SONG MADE THE ICONIC FLOWER APPEAR I DIDNT KNOW THAT

During Wedding Song: Eurydice: *opening her coat, showing her summer outfit* “you want to take me home? 😉😏” Orpheus: “😳😳 yes”

During “Livin it Up On Top” after Orpheus says “to the world we dream about” everyone turns, glasses raised, to the audience, before Orpheus says “and the world we live in now” MADE MY JAW DROP I WAS DEAD

During All I’ve Ever Known, Eurydice seems like she wants to push Orpheus away and be safe but she can’t because she’s fallen for him

HADES’ ENTRANCE WITH THE SMOKE AND THE SUNGLASSES AND THE INDUSTRIAL LIGHTS AND THE DOOR THING OPENING UP WOOOOOOOOOOOOO

OH THE TICKET TO THE UNDERWORLD IS THE TWO COINS

AND EURYDICE HAS THE RED FLOWER AND THE COINS, SYMBOLIZING HER CHOICE OH MY GOD BITCH

AND SHE LEFT THE FLOWER BEHIND THEN ORPHEUS TOOK IT THEN HADES TOOK IT THEN HE GIVES IT TO PERSEPHONE AT THE END OF EPIC III OOOOOOOOHHH MYYYYYYY GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD

They had a turntable! I didn’t know if they had one but eventually it was used and I was like “OOOOOOOOH FUCK YEAH”

During “Wait for Me” when Orpheus sings to the Fates, the set pieces move aside, preparing the set for the underworld, and showing Orpheus’ powers, I WAS FUCKING FLOORED DOG FR

When Eurydice is dancing with the other Hadestown workers, she’s a little out of sync and clumsy with the dance, showing her newness

Hades’ vest has a red silk backside which we don’t see until later on in the show, maybe symbolizing his softer side

During Our Lady of the Underground Persephone actually calls out the names of the band members!!!!!!! I’m so glad they’re getting recognition

After “I CONDUCT THE ELECTRIC CITY” in Chant (Reprise) all the lights on stage go out for a moment, and when they come back on, Orpheus and Eurydice are now holding each other and they weren’t before

During Doubt Comes In, Orpheus is out of the underworld but Eurydice is not, and he turns around, sealing her fate, that shit fucking HURT

Also in Doubt Comes In most of the stage is in darkness and Eurydice can’t be seen for some of it, making us feel Orpheus’ doubt BRO I CAN’T

AND THE CREEPY MINIMAL BLUE LIGHTING SO UNLIKE THE REST OF THE NUMBERS IS SO AAAAAAAAAAHHHH

At the end, after Road to Hell (Reprise) and the audience got up to clap during the bows, Hermes quieted everyone down and then they started We Raise Our Cups

The lighting and how it was used was fucking incredible with how dynamic and unique it was and how it changed with certain scenarios I’m DEAD

The costumes, the choreography, the music, the actors, the set, the EVERYTHING was so fucking incredible

Fucking outstanding show please go see it if you have a chance
