I’m afraid I’ll never be able to participate in the “I think we’re going to have to kill this guy” trend because mine will consistently look like
hyperfixation character of the month: I think we’re going to have to kill this guy
Anakin Skywalker: yeah bet

I think the issue with the whole "Henry isn't gay" thing is also because some people still view Henry as the ultimate evil which apparently automatically means he cannot be gay. Some people were even angry when Patty was labelled as a potential love interest for Henry because in their eyes he cannot have feelings or experience love since he is "an evil psychopath". So now that this has been proven incorrect are like "he turned evil because of her" and compare him to Anakin Skywalker (which isn't that far fetched but in this context it's maybe not the best comparison) So for the straight Henry truthers there's either Patty or no one and without Patty he's "evil again". A gay villain is apparently not acceptable (I don't think he is the bad guy but you get what I mean)
Thus the main issue truly is that people have a fixed image of a certain character that they refuse to change even if canonically proven otherwise.
They simply can't accept Henry being gay and that he wasn't a bad kid.
Nonnie, you're preaching to the choir <3
My honest reaction? Skill issue.
Not my fault that people can't conceptualize a gay villain, or that they can't acknowledge that Henry's not the core villain. Straight and/or Evil Henry truthers can get bent about it. Not my fault they can't separate fanon from canon and be objective about a character for two seconds in a row.
IMHO, Henry's tragedy with Patty does have notes of AnidaIa+Palpatine, but it also feels akin to Anakin and his mother with the Sand People ("I killed them all, not just the men, but the women and the children, too", but then Anakin was still portrayed as a Jedi who had plenty of potential to be a force for good), though I'd just as readily liken Henry to Ben Solo/Kylo Ren with the Shadow and Brenner acting as a Palpatine-Snoke manipulation situation, with Henry and El acting as the Kylo-Rey force dyad (minus the weird, shoehorned ReyIo romance). The base of all of them: It was always about someone using love, fear, and abandonment to influence a good person into doing things they never would have done otherwise.

agree with you when it comes to misogyny in the fandom (and in general lol) and shipping etc and I wanted to dump this here because it's been bugging me and I have nobody to talk to about it irl that hasn't heard me muttering about it before but why do people seem so anti-romance in general? I see 'Star Wars doesn't need romance or a love story' all the time and I can't help but feel like it falls into the misogyny category a little because romance is seen as something inherently feminine or 'for the girls' ig so people think it's an unnecessary addition to a plot but it can actually affect a character and how they act/think etc so much whether that's for good or bad, hope that makes sense?
obviously not every character needs a great romantic love and Din-doesn't-need-or-want-love enjoyers do your thing but even in the first season he clearly considers Omera and seems open to the idea at least, so people being against Bo just doesn't make sense to me? has she done bad things? well yeah but what character hasn't in Star Wars? and even if it's not Bo I still see it thrown around that Star Wars doesn't need a love story but why? what's wrong with romantic love? there are other shows that they're making/have made that yeah shoehorning in a romance would've made no sense (i.e. Kenobi, I mean I've not watched it but I can't imagine a love story working in that) but the Mandalorian hasn't set itself up to be a show like that?
I hope this has made sense but I basically wanted to air that out and it just came to me reading your answers to other questions that it's probably at least a little misogyny that plays a part in that anti-romance feeling going around or that makes sense in my head anyway
(also Jyn and Cassian soulmates truther here so if people wanna beef about them pls consider not doing that or I'll cry, they're basically built to be perfect for each other so???)
i wanted to publish this before tonight's episode (i just woke up for work 😂).
i agree. it's always when there is some prospect of romance for these kinds of female characters that the "we don't need romance" brigade comes out. like, there's nothing inherently wrong with romance nor is there anything wrong with not wanting romance. it's preference. but c'mon it's not star wars even has a lot of it on screen for major characters. at least healthy relationships or ones that don't end in untimely death.
i can name the actual romances on one hand probably and further discussion is going under a read more out of sake for length and because some minor spoilers for clone wars and rebels.
padme amidala and anakin skywalker ends in tragedy, the eradication of the jedi order and the fall of the republic. anakin turns into darth vader.
hera syndulla and kanan jarrus again ends in tragedy. he sacrifices himself to save hera, sabine and ezra.
bail and breha oranga perish in the destruction of alderaan.
obi-wan kenobi and satine kryze never officially get together as she's dutchess of mandalore and he's a jedi knight. she's murdered by maul to spite him.
vel sartha and cinta kaz external circumstances and cinta's devotion to The Cause of the Rebellion put them on shaky ground.
han solo and leia organa are depicted as a kind of volatile relationship and we never actually really see them be a couple on screen besides some crumbs. by the sequels they are separated.
cassian andor and jyn erso dead before they could really have a relationship.
galen and lyra erso ends in lyra being murdered in front of galen.
owen and beru lars seem to be a relatively normal married couple but than they get brutally murdered by the empire so.
so where's the over abundance of romantic relationships in star wars?
i'd like one couple in star wars that doesn't end in a tragic demise or a "casualties: everyone in the local vicinity" type of scenario.
besides a "strong female character" doesn't have be devoid of romance.
allison argent still says it best "can't i be strong and go to prom?"

STOP omg you've gotten me so exited now!! have been scrolling through your blog and realising how dumb I am to only just now notice you like sw LMAO
im gonna be honest my old jedi fallen order hyperfixation has flared up recently so ive been spending all my time consuming anything with cal in it, as well as replaying the game for the 3rd time. have you played jfo??
and omg I don't know if I can pick just one film!! I had covid recently and binged all of the films and they all have their ups and downs. and I haven't watched any of the animated shows BUT I've been meaning to when I have the time :D
character-wise, my faves will always be luke, din, poe, grogu, cal seeing as my previous hyperfixations have been finnpoe, and then dinluke, and then jfo. BUT ALSO obi wam kenobi coming out soon and all the hype surrounding it is making me love anakin and obi wan even more ahhh
tell me about your faves too!! I'm super interested :))
hahah yeah i do blog about it a fair bit but it's more prevalent on my personal blog for sure! but i have been saying for YEARS that it's an absolute tragedy that hp aus are the popular aus when star wars aus should be IT !!!!!!!!!
ok so i'm not a gamer at all, never played anything in my life basically, but i've watched people play jfo on yt a fair bit so i'm totally with you re: cal. he's SO precious, i love him <3 him and bd-1 are too much and thrilla was SUCH a good villain. impeccable vibes.
that's totally fair re: the movies. they've all got their pros and cons. there are only a few that are personally really not to my taste (yes i mean rise of skywalker) but i mostly love them all! and the animated shows are so good. the only ones i haven't seen yet is bad batch & resistance, but clone wars and rebels? chef's kiss ! i'm personally a revenge of the sith stan first and a human second haha. but a new hope & rogue one are up there too. and anything vader related in rotj is everything to me.
solid solid character choices. i love it!!!! i'm also a big dinluke supporter (and a luke skywalker IS gay truther). i actually started an ~undercover cop type dinluke fic a while back where din is like an undercover new republic agent trying to take down a Mandalorian crime sendicate and luke owed a lot of money to the hutts to pay off his aunt's medical bills and his debt was sold to the mandos so he's working off his debt there and then .... romance happens. i should pick it back up at some point, it had potentially haha. also finnpoe.... we could have had it all rip. thank you oscar isaac for your service.
my own personal fav is and has always been anakin. he is my space drama queen and i'm SO excited to see him in kenobi!!! but other favourites include din, kanan jarrus, luke, ahsoka, padme and my man obi. i was a prequels kid so I'm a bit biased towards those characters though ahah. i mean anakin & obi wan's relationship is everything. their relationship changed the fate of/influenced 20 years of galactic politics who ELSE is doing it like them????
anyways, i'm super obsessed with it, i could probably talk meta all night haha.
