The Rules - Oneshot
Paring: Ben x Amelia
Word Count: 566
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
“She's not my daughter,” Ben says without emotion. I’m getting antsy.
“Eight…” Keamy says slowly, still counting down. I look over at Sawyer and I can tell we have matching expressions.
I’m feeling absolutely helpless right now. I can’t just run out there and take Alex’s place or else I’ll be dead and then what. Bedsides, whatever happened, happened. I can’t change anything and it’s killing me. If I take her place she’s just going to die sometime else.
“I stole her as a baby from an insane woman. She's a pawn, nothing more. She means nothing to me. I'm not coming out of this house. So if you want to kill her, go ahead and do it—“ Ben says but is cut off by a muffled gunshot.
Alex falls to the ground, limp, Keamy standing over her, his gun pointed down where her head was. Ben is shocked, dumbfounded. Keamy steps away. I feel myself stumble, but a hand grips my waist and keeps me steady.
“I gotcha,” Sawyer murmurs and I nod slowly. I feel sick to my stomach. Alex's dead body just lays on the ground, and Claire's house burning in the background.
I think I am going to be sick, so I push away from Sawyer and run to Ben’s bathroom. I puke water and stomach acid since I haven't had a proper meal in a while. I cough and wipe my mouth with the back of my hand. I stumble back to the living room. Still looking out from the window, Ben stares in horror. Sawyer is pacing.
“Ben?” I ask tentatively, making my way over to the man. I gently settle my fingers on his shoulder.
Been doesn't move or react. That scares me more than any sort of reaction. He knows I know the future. I'm sure he knows I knew this would happen. Ben turns to me slowly, and I take a step back to make sure he's not going to hurt me.
“Did you know?” he asks in a quietly dangerous voice. I swallow hard.
“Ben…” I repeat, hoping to keep him calm.
“You fucking knew and you let her die!” Ben shouts at me, grabbing me by the neck and choking me. I hear a few shouts of surprise behind me, and then I'm being dragged away. Ben looks at me murderously as I cough, trying to catch my breath.
“What was I supposed to do..” I gasp in response, still trying to get air. He didn't choke me for very long, but my throat is still sore from puking, “Whatever happened, happened. You know I can't change anything. I would have been stupidly risking my life.”
“Maybe you should have,” Ben spits at me and I flinch into Sawyer’s chest.
Ben strides past us, not even saying anything. This is the rules part, I know, but the fact he didn't say it intrigues me more. We turn to see him pulling aside a bookshelf to reveal his secret room.
“Hey! Where you goin'?” Sawyer shout-asks, breaking away from me. I grip a nearby chair to stay steady.
Sawyer chases Ben, but he’s too late. Ben vanishes inside, triggers a switch, and a steel security door comes down over the opening. Sawyer pounds on the door.
“It's no use James,” I whisper, and I’m guessing he heard me because he stops, “It’s time to move on.”

THIS IS NOT A DRILL!!!!
Oh. My. God. That’s amazing. I mean, I had secretly hoped for her as Christine, she has the voice of an angel AND is a skilled ballerina, and would own the role. But realizing they would probably go for someone younger and more unknown this is the next best thing.

Of Plans and Sandwiches - Oneshot
Paring: Ben x Amelia
Word Count: 672
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
“Let me into the armory,” I say stoically, standing with my arms crossed in front of Jack.
“No way Amelia, he could be dangerous,” Jack replies.
“You’re forgetting I know things,” I shoot back, trying to be as vague as possible.
Jack matches my stance, “Then tell me who he is.”
I bit my lip and glance towards the armory door. I look back to Jack, “I can’t, not until you let me in.”
“You realize you’re risking all of us by going in there.”
“Jack, I know what I’m doing, please.”
Jack finally let’s down his guard at my plea, and I do the same. He doesn’t speak so I continue, “Has he eaten yet?”
“No not yet, I was going to bring him a sandwich soon,” Jack replies, and I move into the small kitchen and prepare him a sandwich. I think about the irony to come in this situation.
Once I’ve finished with the sandwich I stride to the bookshelves. I peruse them for a moment before picking one out and setting near the plate. Then I get a glass and fill it with water. I turn to Jack who has been watching me silently the whole time.
“Does Sawyer know you’re here?” Jack asks suddenly and I pause.
“Yes, why?” I ask cautiously.
“You two are always together, but now with the button not so much. Did you finally get sick of him?” Jack presses and I feel myself getting annoyed.
“Sawyer knows what I’m doing, he trusts me. If you’ve got a problem with that go deal with it himself. Better yet tell Kate and she’ll sort him out,” I snap and pick up the tray, “Open the door please.”
Jack unlocks the armory and I walk in to see Benjamin Linus tied up on the floor. I turn and nod at Jack and he closes the door behind me. I set the sandwich, water, and book in front of Ben and sit down a little farther away from him.
“Hello Henry,” I begin cheerfully, “I figured you were hungry and in need of entertainment.”
“Oh yes, thank you, you’re so kind,” ‘Henry’ replies in his character voice, “You’re friends are very mean, but you’re kind…?”
“Amelia,” I offer up since only one of us needs to lie about our names.
“You’re too kind Amelia, thank you,” ‘Henry’ says.
“You can drop the act, Benjamin,” I say seriously and Ben’s face falls as soon as I do.
“So you know?” He asks me, all traces of ‘Henry Gale’ dropped.
“Yeah, I do know. I’m going to ask you something too,” I reply and pull the items I gave him just out of his reach.
“Then ask.”
“Your plan with Walt and his father? Call it off right now. I know what you’re going to do and it’s not going to turn out well for us,” I say and Ben regards me curiously but doesn’t speak.
I continue, “I know the willpower of a father and what you’re causing can be avoided if you just listen to me,” I’m practically begging by now.
“I’m not sure what you know, Amelia,” Ben finally says after a pause, “But my plan is already set, you can’t change my mind.”
I stand and shove Linus’ items toward him again, “Then enjoy your stay, Henry,” I split at him and knock at the armory door. Jack’s nervous face appears a few moments later.
Jack ushers me out once he sees I’m not injured in any way and quickly slams the armory door shut after I’m fully out. I cross my arms tightly over my chest and lean against the island in the middle of the kitchen.
“So how did it go?” Jack demands and I look fiercely up at him.
“As well as I could,” I reply harshly, and promptly stride out of the hatch and begin my path down to the beach. I don’t hear Jack calling after me so I just keep going. I’ve got so much to tell Sawyer.

So It Begins - Oneshot
Paring: Ben x Amelia
Word Count: 479
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
We had absolutely nothing else to do. The weight of the mercenaries was heavy on my mind and I needed a distraction. I looked at the room in front of me, and noticed everyone else was busy with their own thing. I decide to slowly get up out of my seat and make my way to Ben’s study.
I pad quietly down the hallway, and glance back every so often to make sure no one notices me moving away. I slowly creak open the study door and flip on the light. My eyes light up in excitement at the sight of the books. I look down the hallway one last time before delving into the study to peruse the books.
I walk around the shelves slowly, running my finger along the spines. I smile at the textures, each one of them teeming with a new story. I giggle at the irony of that. I’m thrust into a story I love, yet I want to read another to keep my mind occupied. It’s truly something.
I find a book I want, or well, one that I haven’t read 500 times and settle into one of the armchairs in the room. I hold my breath and listen to the sounds coming from the front room. Everything seems normal, no sign of the ringing phone or the mercenaries yet.
Despite trying to read, my mind can’t help but worry about Alex and Keamy. I tap my foot restlessly, and eventually shut the book and stare at the cover. I’ve barely made any progress, and I’ve had to read sentences over and over again to actually comprehend them.
“Is that my book?” I hear a voice slowly ask, and I look up to see Linus standing in the doorway of his study.
“Yeah, I needed a distraction for the things to come,” I reply vaguely not really wanting to reveal his daughter will die. I just hope he doesn’t react badly.
“I trusted you knew that the freighter wasn’t here to help your friends,” Linus responds, walking over and sitting in the armchair next to me. He picks up the book I was reading and studies it for a moment.
“Most of my friends don’t believe me. At least Jack didn’t, and neither does Locke. James, Juliet, and Kate believed me but now I’m not so sure if 2 of the 3 do.”
“If it’s any consolation, I believe you.”
I bark out a laugh and turn to look at Linus, “You’re not serious?”
Linus nods, “I am actually.”
I sink back into my chair, Linus surprises me every single day. Just then a phone rings, and the sound is coming from the front room. I jump to my feet, looking at Linus worriedly. He slowly gets up and strides quickly out of the study with me at his heels. So it begins.

Reconciliation - Oneshot
Paring: Ben x Amelia
Word Count: 369
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
“You know that’s not really Locke!” I shout at Ben, shifting my arm so that it doesn’t hurt as much under the weight of my rifle.
Ben turns back to me, “I know.”
“Then why the hell are you following him?!”
Ben doesn’t answer me this time, instead he turns to where the ocean is and looks off in the distance. Never in my wildest dreams did I ever think I would be trying to course correct Benjamin Linus but here we are.
I huff when he doesn’t respond, “Ben you know about this Island as well as I do. I know that this Island will do whatever it takes to keep things on track. Whatever happened, happened. Time for me is not the same. I’m trying to save you from guilt, and I know that you’ve hated me but now is not the time.”
Finally Ben turns back to me, studying me with his large eyes. I just stand there, breathing heavily from my all-in-one-breath mini-rant.
“I’m sorry,” he says finally, and I look at him in confusion.
“For what?” I ask, not daring to take a step closer in case he lunges at me with a weapon.
“Everything,” he replies simply, and I steel myself for an attack. It doesn’t come and he continues, “I’m very sorry for all that I have done to you and your friends. I forget sometimes that you are special and know what will happen. At first it unnerved me, yes, and I felt out of control. Yet I have come to appreciate you and your ability. Jacob wanted you for a reason, more than just a Candidate. I hope you’re able to find out why.”
I smile and I realize that I’m crying. Ben looks at me with mild concern as I wipe away my tears. I fling myself at him and he tenses up, ready for a fight. I hug him, which is a weird sensation at first. I surprise myself every day at how I feel about Benjamin Linus. He went from my enemy to my friend, and another person I’m trying to save.
Ben finally wraps his arms around my lower back, patting me awkwardly as we hug. I laugh and shake my head, and then pull back from the hug.
“Let’s go finish this,” I say, and all Ben does is nod in response.

“You intrigue me.”
Amelia swallowed, mouth gone dry. “I’m not that interesting.”
“Funny.” A flicker of a smile, and a gaze that never wavered. “Uninteresting people generally don’t have to say that.”
Amelia had to get out - right now. A step closer, and she was mesmerized.
“What are you trying so hard to hide?” Linus murmured.

I found this song and I can't help hearing Amelia in it. Especially looking at the lyrics such as:
And God knows I could make amends
This is one of the lines I used in L-AO, and honestly it couldn't fit better.
Another line is:
And it's sad to know that we are not alone / And it's sad to know there's no honest way out
Like this captures her thoughts on the Others perfectly, with addition to her knowledge about what happens.
Take a listen to the song and see what you think for yourself!

“How dare you!” Amelia shouts, storming towards Linus angrily, “I.. I trusted you!”
”Sweet, naïve little girl. Trust us for children. You, my dear, are a soldier,” Linus replies coldly and coolly.

“You are playing a dangerous game without so much as a glimpse into the rule book,” Linus hisses dangerously at Amelia.
Amelia doesn’t back down, though, and she says, “Wise words Linus, best you follow them.”

“What’s going to happen to them?” Linus asked Amelia with palpable fear laced in his voice.
“Nothing you can change,” Amelia replied without so much as a glance at Linus.

“You act like you’re indestructible, but you’re not,” Linus sputtered as Amelia began to walk away. But as he spoke, she stopped but didn’t turn around.
“Guess you’d know best, huh?” Amelia replied, glancing over her shoulder. She noticed Linus’ slack expression on his bloodied face, and smiled.

“Don’t believe I can be something better by stripping me of who I am,” Amelia spat at the glass separating her and Linus. She turned away from it, fighting the tears that wanted to spring to her eyes.
“We’re not stripping you of anything because you didn’t have something to begin with,” Linus replied coldly and promptly swept from the room, slamming the door behind him.
Amelia sank to the ground, keeping her back from the camera as she sobbed.

“Ready for another war?” Amelia asks, straightening her back as she stands proudly in front of Linus. He eyes for her a moment before he responds.
“Same war,” He says slowly, “It’s only the enemy that’s different.” Amelia blinks slowly, controlling her reaction to Linus’ words. He’s right.
