New pens! I'm gunna gab about new pens! I've been using faber-castell pens for a while, specifically the brush ones. They get worn down really quick and lose the fine point. I started finally using a dip pen a while back so I havn't needed the brush pens since, but I was kinda missing the simplicity of having a nice pen to play around with mess free. So I caved and got some micron pens for once. I see people use them all the time and swear by them, but I had only used some really tiny ones before that didn't fit anything I was doing. Had no idea they had brush ones too but this Graphic 1 pen has been a lot of fun especially. I also picked up some turquoise lead. I have some 'copy-not' non-photo blue pencils but they're pretty worn out and I feel like I have to press down a little too hard to get the definition I want. Either way this new leads been nice and smooth, but a lot harder to erase. Guess it doesn't matter too much for scanning. Also an Ames Lettering Guide. Only thing that fits the holes is some tiny lead from a mechanical pencil, which snaps off pretty quickly, but it is pretty handy.

Lettering demonstration I prepared for class in which I tell an imaginary story about using my Ames Lettering Guide everyday. I admitted to the students that this was a bald faced fib and I usually just eyeball my lettering, but it’s really a good and fun tool! I wish I really did use it every day. This is literally my first time using a lettering guide, so documentation seemed in order. Most people refer to them as Ames Lettering Guides which seems to me to be like calling a photocopy a Xerox or a tissue a Kleenex. My guide is a Pickett No. 02 which I picked up with a set of hand-me-down drafting tools off eBay. Possibly an estate sale from what I gather was a nice lady down with a penchant for calligraphy and graphic design down in Indiana.
