That's not condescending, it's telling the neurotypical parent that their child is not wrong to not use that coat closet storage because it doesn't work for them. It's also a specific scenario being addressed??

B) "if your home doesn't have a medicine/linen closet or has an inadequate amount of storage in a medicine cabinet for your needs, do THIS THING which DOESN'T require a whole dedicated closet."

Btw my closet currently is what I have explained to countless people is "Oliver twist sized."

Behold my gilded age USA closet:

This closet has no hanging rack and no shelves. It is just barely 2 feet inside but the door frame blocks part of it, and it is somewhere between 12.5 and 14 inches deep, depending on where I'm measuring because THE WALLS ARE NOT THE SAME DEPTH INSIDE.

I removed the door because with a door there is even less storage space because of the folding door slide frame.

The average garment hanger, by the way, is like, 16-18 inches wide, so my closet literally cannot fit hanging clothes in it.

In the bottom right corner is the wooden clothes rack I eventually saved up and bought to help store my clothes. But prior to that I was only using my very bougie and first world uh....

Ikea Mulig for $8.99 USD, because the metal & plastic rack I bought from Aldi's broke.

...I am still using the Mulig btw.

This book also recommended clothing storage (which isn't pictured above) that doesn't even need to be in a closet. The wooden rack I bought has two tiny drawers, so I used the space on top of the drawers to implement the book's advice, and I bought these things:

Plastic stacking/slide open front storage bins. I bought a set of them. They can go on a bookshelf. On the floor. Under the bed. On top of any extra surface you have!

That's my clothes storage. A closet based on 1901 dimensions and no built in rods, racks, or shelves. And some bins and free standing clothing racks. I tried to thrift a dresser and now I have not enough space so I'm getting rid of it.

Also: If you already have a coat rack and a pile of coats you forget you have, the problem isn't that you don't have a place to store your coats.

The problem is you have too many coats. Start getting rid of the ones you forget you even have because you're not wearing them and they aren't useful if they're not being worn.

I also had too many coats. so I got rid of most of them. This helped immensely. Now, I have a spring/fall coat. A winter coat. And a rain coat. And that's it. Those are my coats. I can probably even get rid of the rain coat because I have a lot of umbrellas and am unlikely to have the rain coat with me during a sudden rain.

All my other layering pieces (bc I get cold super easy!) fit on the Mulig (cardigans, hoodies, light jackets, work blazers) and are maybe like... 1/4th or 1/3rd of the rack.

There are tons and tons of well designed laundry hampers that can be hung from the wall, (including by adhesive sticker), hung by magnets from a metal surface, hung over the door, or are slim but deep. Or are inside a cabinet that can double as other storage. Or are collapsible! Some are laundry hampers, plus shelf, plus a clothing rod above the shelf/folding space.

My actually "bougie" upgrade was buying a vertical hamper set, which gives me 2 laundry hampers in a 1-hamper footprint.

(I bought a shitty hamper that didn't put together properly, let a bad review, got a refund, then bought this. And y'know what? It's REALLY NICE and very sturdy. The cushioned handles are genius.)

This company also does two horizontal hanging baskets with an ironing board over top which can be used to fold clothes. But I went with vertical.
