The sad thing is most kpop idols probably feel like they have to get a sponsor to make it big. If they want to it's fine but it's so embedded in kpop culture that they just do it because they think they need to especially the good looking members would feel guilty if their group is still unsuccessful. Like in most industries when women sleep their way to the top. If they choose to it's fine but women shouldn't feel like they have to do that to get to the top. But for kpop it's men too. So sad
Well, more than making it big, it’s about the money. Kpop idols are SOOOO poor. Under the big 3 you get fed, you have a relatively okay apartment (or “dorm” is what they call it), have necessities like soap, toothpaste, toilet paper, and maybe even have a little tiny bit of extra money for some snacks every now and then. With smaller companies, BigHit for example, as trainees they didn’t have that. BTS was going hungry and eating vitamins in place of meals at some points. Jooheon from Monsta X was so poor that he’d eat stuff from the trashcan in the trainee days. So making it big is a part of that but I personally think the bigger thing is they want nice things or not even nice but just something. Especially when training is already so hard. Making songs, dancing, competing and being stressed and then even when you get home you can’t really relax or feel better because you might be literally starving among other things.
Back to the subject of dorms because this is an interesting topic to me too, groups like Seventeen and ToppDogg all live together. SNSD did as well and I’m sure SuJu and every single band with a million members in it all lived in the same place. So most of the time you have no space, privacy, I’m pretty sure people are gonna be touching your stuff if you so happen to leave it in the bathroom or wherever else. Even if you look at iKon during M&M their dorm was pretty crowded with 9 members and they actually had to pretty big sized dorms so just imagine how crowded Seventeen’s and toppdogg’s (who are already super poor for many reasons) are? I bet there’s a lot of people out there trying to save money just to move out on their own lol
