Candy apples
Sonic/Elise, tooth rotting fluff, no warnings, this is super self indulgent asgdhsfj

Elise stares at the drippy and sticky sweet in Sonic’s hand.
“You mean you’ve never had a candy apple before?” He sounds so baffled Elise almost wants to laugh, but her eyes remain stuck on the so-called apple in his hands.
She watches as the sweet-smelling syrup drips down the stick and meets his gloved hands, creating a small orangey puddle in his otherwise soft white gloves.
“No, not really,” she finally tears her eyes away from the candy to look back at the stall at the fair they are visiting. Its soft green and white striped tent catches the attention of many tourists, as they line up to taste the proudly proclaimed “Soleanna Traditional Apple Sweet”. The two teenagers are lucky they got in line early and Sonic was able to snatch one before it got too big.
“I have heard of it, of course, but I've never had one. My ladies-in-waiting always wanted me to have the best diet possible, and they insisted my food be made by the royal chefs only and,” she stops herself and her gaze meets his. He’s smiling softly at her, that way he does when she gets a little lost in her thoughts.
She feels herself smile, too.
“And, well,” her smile turns slightly mischievous, “they’re not here, right now, right?”
His grin matches hers. They’re thinking on the same page.
The pair are at a southern Soleanna town right now. So very different from the big, bustling city Elise grew up with, but she had wanted to see something different. Different, but not too far from her home, should they need her, and Sonic had been more than happy to comply.
So far, most of their dates had been in Soleanna's Castle Town. Elise had loved her adventure with Sonic, but had been determined to stay near her home for some time. Just to guarantee its safety.
It has been a while now, though. Things have calmed down and, well, Sonic is always willing to go anywhere.
And, more importantly, take her anywhere.
“If you wanna, we could go somewhere new!” Sonic had spread his arms out to emphasize the scope they had, the whole world, just for them. Then he drew back a bit, “I know you want to stay close, so maybe we could just visit a different city?” He propped his hands back on the balcony railing where he sat. His sense of balance, impeccable as ever.
Elise brings a finger to her chin, considering his words. Sonic waits for her answer as the breeze ruffles his fur and quills. It blows her hair gently in the wind, and he is stunned for a few seconds. He feels a little glad she’s still thinking and he gets this moment just to admire her.
It’s been so much fun hanging out with Elise in Soleanna. Sonic knows better than anyone how much one single place can offer for fun; he never tires of certain places either, but he’s been hoping to visit somewhere new lately. He knows she enjoyed the different views their adventure showed her. Elise has practically stayed her entire life in Soleanna’s Castle Town, and the hedgehog can’t wait to show her different places. (He thinks she’d like Chun-Nan. Sonic hopes she’ll agree to go there someday.)
The princess had stayed silent for a minute before nodding, a bright smile on her face, determination shining in her eyes and Sonic had smiled back, ignoring the slight warmth on his cheeks.
He'd scooped her up and enjoyed the few seconds of running where she nestled her head in his shoulder while he carried the both of them to a beachy town in the south.
Popular with tourists and famous for its crowds, the hero and the princess could probably get lost in the crowd, no one to notice two outsiders in particular.
And lost they got.
The two had been exploring the seaside town for a couple of hours, they'd shared some lunch, courtesy of Elise, who’d insisted she pay, and had been visiting the various little fairs the town offered.
The two teens had been just walking around, taking in the sights together. They’d stopped at one point, near one of the countless docks, admiring the view, when a sweet smell caught Elise’s nose.
Curious, the girl followed her nose through the crowds, where a jolly looking man had been stirring a big pot with a stick. The smell came from his tent, Elise could only wonder what it was.
In a second, Sonic was at her side. “What’s up?” He asked, standing on the tip of his toes to try to see into the stock pan. The table the pot was on and its height meant the hero couldn’t see what was inside from his spot.
“Oh,” Elise looked back down to her boyfriend, “I just smelt something sweet and I wanted to see what it was.”
“Ah, ‘course, yeah!” Sonic nodded with a smile.
The blue teen seemed to think of something suddenly, before his cheeks took on a pink hue.
Elise tilted her head slightly but before she could ask anything, Sonic beat her to it, “wanna share one?” He asks with a shy but determined look on his face.
The girl smiles back, but her eyebrows are scrunched in confusion. “Share what?” She asks carefully.
Sonic blinks twice and then he’s the one confused. “An apple?” He gestures lightly, in the tent’s direction.
“Oh! Is that what that smell is?” Elise brightens, looking away from him in an attempt to see better into the tent.
“Wait, you don’t know?” Sonic asks, baffled.
She looks back at him. “No,” she says, more as if it were a question, like she isn’t sure herself.
“Oh, no way I’m letting that stay that way,” he says with a sudden grin, “c’mon, Elise!” He grabs her hand and pulls her towards the slowly forming line, not noticing the instant blush that covers the princess’ face while their hands touch.
They’re lucky the line is short, the wind had been blowing towards the ocean and most of the fair hadn’t felt the sweet wafting smell yet. The two teens are some of the first in line.
They don’t wait long before the people in front of them get their candied apple and leave, and then it’s their turn. Sonic insists he pay for this one, with a slight blush covered face he pulls his wallet out of his quills and hands the payment to the human man running the tent.
The older man nods as the hedgehog asks for a single apple, with a kind look in his eyes, he picks the sweetest apple coated in candy he has. The human gives the two teenagers their apple with a joyful smile and waves before the next customer, while the hero and princess walk away.
The two walk back to the port they had been near before. The sun is setting and there’s an empty bench nearby, facing the sea. Sonic is the first to hop on the bench, careful with the candy in his hand. He then looks at the human girl with an eager grin.
Elise smiles back and pulls her dress close so she can sit properly on the bench.
Sonic waits for her to adjust her clothes while admiring the way the ocean shines as the sun dips to meet it, and Elise can’t help but admire her own view.
She blinks once and then he’s turned to her. This way, with the both of them sitting on the bench, their height difference is a little smaller, but Elise doesn’t have time to really notice that because Sonic switches the hand that holds the apple and now it’s between them.
Elise notices how what she thought was fully solid before seems to have melted a bit in the descending sun and is slowly dripping down the stick it’s held on.
Elise makes a grossed out face, and Sonic starts snickering. “What’s wrong, princess?” He teases with a smirk, bringing the candied fruit closer to her. The girl doesn’t back away, only continues to stare at the snack strangely.
“I thought it would be… more solid.” She finally settles on.
Sonic blinks to the sky then back to his girlfriend, “well, it is kinda hot today,” he says. “It should be less sticky,” he switches hands again, noticing the way the syrup had started traveling down the stick to create a puddle in his gloves. “Oh, gross,” he chuckles.
“Either way,” he holds the apple up to a better height for her, “wanna give it a try?”
Elise stares at the drippy and sticky sweet in Sonic’s hand.
She hesitates. “Is it good?” She asks, hoping for some confirmation from her boyfriend before trying it.
The hedgehog gives her a lopsided smile. “Sure,” he says with a shrug, “here, I’ll take a bite.” He does just that, taking a small chunk out of it. He munches on it fine enough, then swallows with a lifted eyebrow and small smirk. “I’m not super fond of sweets, but it is pretty good. Fruit candy is always the best, in my opinion.” He grins.
“You?” He offers the apple to her.
The girl holds her hand out to take it with a nod. He hands it to her and she quickly takes a bite. A scrunched face swiftly turns to a bright smile with full cheeks. She swallows it, before announcing cheerfully, “it’s pretty good!” Then takes another bite.
Sonic snickers again, arms folded up behind his head as he leans against the bench, “told ya.”
“Yes, well, honestly I was scared it’d be,” she searches for the words. “Like one of your,” she grins, “more particular tastes.”
“Hey! What’s that supposed to mean?” He demands in mock outrage, fake indignation complete with a barely contained smirk.
“Sonic,” she giggles, “I’ve heard of how you eat ice cream.”
“What? Who told you?” He demands with a laugh.
Elise laughs. “Blaze did!” She bends over slightly with her laughing. “She told me the last time we saw each other. I’ve heard of the jalapeño!”
“Oh, no fair! I never should’ve introduced you two! You guys are teaming up on me,” he laments, dramatically shaking a fist at the sky.
“No, you shouldn’t have,” she laughs. Then smirks deviously, “we get on like a house on fire.”
Sonic stares at her baffled before erupting in laughter.
Elise joins him in his laughter and, as the sun finally plunges into the sea, their laughter lights up the docks, together with the slow buzz of the lamps being turned on.
“That was a good one!” He remarks, and Elise beams. “Thank you! I thought it was pretty good, too.”
The two descend into a comfortable silence, taking turns to bite at the apple, until the stick is the only thing remaining in the princess’ hands. Her gloves also turned sticky and honeyed now.
She looks down to where her gloves have turned orangey, then looks to Sonic’s also spotted gloves where he rests his hands on the bench, gazing at the few stars that have already started shining.
The princess stares at him for a second, before her eyes face the sea, too.
“Thank you, Sonic,” she says out loud, not looking at him, “today was incredible.”
She’s still staring at the calm waters and ever darkening sky, but she can hear the gentle smile in his face as he nods with a content hum.
