okay, i am bored and sleep deprived and i just went through @davekat-sucks's blog. this is a recipe for disaster. sigh. hope you don't mind me doing this ms. davekat sucks, its just that some of your takes were so frigid i just couldn't bring myself to ignore them. various thoughts under the cut

first off, id like to say that this not an attempt to blame you for making this blog, or for disliking davekat. you can ship whatever the fuck you want and express your opinion however you like. i actually really appreciate the courage. fuck yeah, go against the status quo. post about a controversial topic. fandom would be boring without people like you. but the thing is, your takes are so cold bestie. they are straight up frigid. i am so sorry but the sight of them got me freezing and shaking uncontrollably

why do you base so much of your criticism around hs2 and the epilogues whilst simultaneously claiming they're badly written and shouldn’t be canon? YES their characterisations were fucked in post-canon. that's the case for most characters!! it's kind of hypocritical to use post-canon as a basis to bash davekat and then turn around and completely disregard that when it comes to pairings like roxygen or rosemary. guess what! they were fucked over by post-canon too! and yet you're not going around claiming that johnroxy sucks, even though john basically abandoned roxy and cheated on her. you're not going around claiming rosemary is a horrible pairing because of the yiffy fiasco in homestuck 2. and you still like those ships. so do i!!

hs2 turned davekat into some kind of fanservice generator and robbed dave and karkat of most of their personalities, i agree. but that's because hs2 fucking sucks. they did that for most of the character anyway. why does it only matter to you when it's davekat? much to think about.

so yeah. im not going to address the criticism pertaining to the epilogues and beyond. im not defending them

another thing you keep bringing up is dave hating quadrants which, jesus fucking christ. it makes me doubt you have any reading comprehension skills. the label felt alien to him, yes. he initially rejected the concept because it seemed weird and off-putting, probably, and that's normal. most of the kids thought troll culture was weird at first. and! he didn't break up with terezi because he hated quadrants! he just doesn't like the polygamous aspect of it.

but let's suppose for the sake of argument that he actually, canonically, hates quadrants. what would that even mean? would that imply he would never get into a relationship with a troll, seeing as those would technically be quadrants? or that he doesn't feel any kind of quadrant-related romantic attraction? both of these were proven wrong by canon because: 1) he willingly got into a matespritship with terezi 2) humans can feel pale, pitch, and red attraction; they just label it differently. karkat elaborates on that in a conversation with john, probably around act6 act5. and davekat doesnt even fall squarely under any quadrant, so this is all pointless lol

one other point you brought up was that as soon as they got close to one another on the meteor, they stopped being active in the plot and disregarded all of the issues their friends were dealing with, proving that their relationship was lazy writing which caused their development to stagnate. this is a good point! but when you look into it, that's not really what happened.

the beta kids and the surviving trolls all began blending into the background during act 6 as the story began focusing on the alpha kids. most of them were sitting around, not particularly doing anything relevant, because there was nothing relevant to be done except for waiting. like kanaya, or davesprite, for example.

you mention that it was ooc for dave and karkat not to help terezi while she was getting abused. the thing is, terezi tried to keep her relationship with gamzee under wraps. she didn't really succeed at that, but people still didn't know exactly what was going on with them at first. karkat wasn't even told about it. he didn't even know she was dating gamzee up until very late into the trip. dave had just broken up with her and didn't know much about troll quadrants by that point, so he probably just thought it was all kismesis shit and didn't want to intrude. again, if he had known what was really going on, he probably would have intervened, but he only had a vague idea about it since terezi wasn't open about her relationship with gamzee. that is, up until the very end of the trip, and by that point dave and karkat WERE trying to encourage her.

you mention that they also didn't help rose with her addiction, but dave was trying! he spent a whole scene trying to get her to drink less! (the one right before the rosemary kiss)

but the thing is. most of the meteor shenanigans happened off screen, so we're not certain of anything. but again, for the sake of argument, let's assume they actually weren't even trying to help their friends. why would that matter? why would the fact that they weren't rushing to fix all of their friends emotional issues have any impact on their feelings for each other? they're traumatised teenagers, they make mistakes! theyre flawed characters!

kanaya didnt try to help terezi with the gamzee situation either. she didnt try to contact the ship either. instead, she spent most of her time with rose. does that make rosemary a horrible pairing? is it ooc for rose and kanaya? from what i've seen, this doesnt seem to be your opinion on the subject.

ok, that is not what i have been saying. "well you should've known" is not an accurate summary of my feelings on this matter but apologies if thats how it came across. i have been in an abusive relationship where the person did a lot of the same things and i, too, defended that person without considering how it impacted other people. i almost lost my best friend because of how i acted as a result of keeping him in my life while people around me kept telling me to get tf out. i know.

what i am is im frustrated and annoyed by how long people were willing to publicly and passionately defend this guy while apparently fully aware what kind of shit he was doing to other people, many of which is detailed in the callout itself, and how this is now being framed as news. before the document itself was published all me (or anyone) had to go off of was vague posts that amounted to a "callout trailer" and almost all of the information on it was shit that was 100% completely public knowledge. 20+ people being aware of all that goddamn stuff and not one of them publicly stopping associating with him is frustrating. it comes across as spineless and yes, like one anon told GD, gaslighty (although i have my own issues with this being used on a large scale instead of in interpersonal relationships but i understand where they were coming from). his lesbophobia, transphobia (strange that none of the transphobia towards trans men was mentioned?), and panphobia/aphobia/biphobia were widely documented and seeing that on a callout post as if it were news was extremely tiring.

ive since read the callout. the interpersonal actions seem to have been horrible but sadly im not surprised (by which i dont mean "and neither should you" but rather. my spidey senses for this sort of behavior are pretty accurate most of the time and i did see this coming. this isnt me saying im Better than these people or that they shouldve as well but rather that i have learned to identify people of this genre.) by any of them.

I am never been so close to anti-stan then I am right now. Dreams Twitter fanbase started the biggest hate train on him because they themselves:

1. Took his inital tweet with the drugs comment as a race issue, like it was obvious that was not the intent or even the focus.

2. Got mad at his completely rational reply to a toxic Stan that used both white and adhd as an isult - the toxic Stan was saying his fanbase will dogpile them, well if you didn’t phrase your concerns in a toxic way in a public place maybe you wouldn’t be concerned about it. Like he empasised he had no intent to relate it to rap - and they see him say rap and fucking ran with it.

3. Got mad at him for disagreeing with someone generalizing his 23 million fans as anti-black, like even his stance on stans is entirely anti-generalizing, he literally denounced any that are in the same comment.

4. Bullied him into unprivating his account because they can’t share screenshots apparently.

5. Got mad a him for tweeting a fucking heart.

Then they turn around and blame the entire thing on the antis, like no. You blew it out of proportion and reacted like shit to everything he did. You are the problem. All the responses to his last tweet are “educate yourself and reflect” and “come back with a better apology” like no. He apologized when he shouldn’t have and you cyber bullied him. They are bloody proud of theirselves for “holding him accountable“ for something they misconstrued.

First thing i want to say is that this post is going to be joint answered as evangeline is white so this is going to be answered by her and me as im half african half american. Normally evanageline would be voicing her opinions and adding ours in if we had any but as its a racism issue she didnt feel comfortable to voice only her opinions. However shes the one writing the post apart from this bit to keep up the consistentcy of the blog page. -Trinity (Basically Trin gave her thoughts using a voice note and I slightly edited it so the sentences were a bit more coherent and added both mine and the other admins opinions as Trin doesn't really use twitter unless it's through my priv account - Evangeline)

I will say that a lot of the fan drama that you see are a smaller group that is known to attack and harass Dream and anyone who disagrees with anything. Eventhough they are a small group they mass reply to everything and make themselves look bigger than they are. Not only that but the only thing they end up doing is overshadowing the original issue at hand which is fans harassing and being racist to eachother. So a lot of what I'm about to say is mainly what this group is doing and isn't at all a reflection of a lot of fans but it is something that needs to be talked about especially since a bunch of this groups members are either white or white passing but get mad on black people's behalf and is basically setting them up.

I don't mean to be rude or dismissive but a lot of people used this as an opportunity to trauma dump. Like I know going into horrible details about what you have to deal with is the only way to get the point across sometimes however harassing Dream and spamming him with stuff like "I was harassed because I'm gay" "I was doxxed because I was Asian" is lowkey weird. Like why are you telling this random guy on the internet that you were doxxed? What is he going to be able to do about it? Also not to defend Dream but how are you going to sit there and break one of his few boundaries whilst trying to educate him.

On top of that the issue was originally how racist some of the fandom are to black people but then other minority groups started talking about how they were also being stereotyped and attacked but all this is doing is talking over other minorities. For example a large group of fans started off talking about how they were being attacked by other stans because of their skin colour but then immediately started to harass and threaten others. Like some were clearly not being serious but dming people and update accounts to retweet and spread awareness isn't the move you think it is. Obviously a lot of them were genuinely trying to spread awareness and were trying to get the respect and treatment they deserve but all of that was being overshadowed by the few that were attacking and harassing creators and fans. Then a lot of it turned into minorites fighting each other over who was more oppressed which just makes the whole thing seem like petty drama.

I will say a lot of them were lovely. I am pretty uneducated on race based issues and how certain things effect people and can be racist so I was asking a lot of questions and most of them were nice. However I also got a lot of snarky ones like "google it" to questions that weren't general like "Is it mocking to call white people crackers and token white boy if you are a white person" or "is ______ considered micro aggressions"

However as usual it went from trying to educate your creators to who is the most oppressed and who can bring up more past drama that has already been addressed multiple times. I'm not being funny but the fact that some well known Dream antis were defending Dream and shitting on stans should really tell you how non productive this is. It went from "Hey Dream this comment is a bit weird can you delete it please" to "Dream you should stop being friends with this person and you should follow this person otherwise your racist" Like that's not helping anyone. The only thing that it's doing is breaking Dreams boundaries, setting Dream up and making stans look bad.

Like people were @ing Sapnap and George telling them to "collect the racist friend" like how is that spreading awareness. The whole thing went from being a good chance to educate to a big fucking joke that just made a lot of people upset and anxious.

Honestly the whole thing was pretty fucking hypocritical like you can't talk about being harassed whilst harassing people into hearing you out. A lot of the issues seemed really gatekeepy to me as well. One that I saw constantly get brought up was that the only people allowed to say dy*e were black lesbians as they created the word. Like a big topic was a misuse of aave but not a single person actual explained what it was or gave examples all I saw was "mcyttwt needs to stop using aave language it's offensive" like you can't claim to be educating people if you don't explain. Not everyone can access websites and caards that get linked because of regions or web rescrictions so they're not helpful either.

HOWEVER I will agree that a lot of their points were completely valid like the whole thing of "Feral Feb" over shadowing BHM and whenever Dream listens to rap people complain and call it bad music are two really good examples. I listened to a few twitter spaces to learn a bit more and things that were said in there was all good info that would be genuinely helpful to know and it really did help edcuate me however not a single tweet said any of it and that's why people don't understand what they're doing is wrong because nobody explains it.

A lot of the issues that people had with Dream were so weird as well like a lot of them were self oppression and turning normal things into racism. A lot of the issues had the same energy as the 404twt fans who were genuinely mad at Dream for having a colour that George couldn't see and they were harassing him and claiming that he was purposely excluding diasbilities.

OK! Sorry for lateness but I only noticed your question at like 2:00 AM and needed a full tank of brain-gas to be able to convey my thoughts even semi-coherently. 

So Kankri’s a weird one, probably one of the most convoluted and self-contradictory characters in Homestuck. Its fitting given he’s pretty much a one note joke and hussie’s one-note joke characters actually wind up being either his most oddly complex (see: equius and feferi for instance) or most sympathetic (see: Nepeta). Kankri’s a bit of both imo, though I wouldn’t call him a favorite for me. 

Kankri’s characterization is built almost entirely on one fuckin’ note: “LOL AIN’T TUMBLR SJWs FUNNY AND ANNOYING!?!?!?”. If you disagree with this then I don’t even know what to tell you, bc everything from his style of long-winded monologues (that wind up running up on Hussie Ableism Moments bc in-narrative his infodumping is supposed to be annoying???) to his inability to take social cues to his supposed-to-be-interpreted-as-excessive use of trigger warnings to his unapologetic killjoy attitude to his supposed hypocrisy/”privilege” are literally all just a fucking layer cake of anti-SJW stereotypes. This is where the issue of how the fandom interprets Kankri kicks in, as people’s opinions on him (aside from a few diehards) tend to scale from “DAWWW CUTE WIDDLE UPPITY BEANBOY” to “fucking annoying neoliberal”. For the matter, neither of these are intended by Hussie, while he did design him to be cute he wasn’t meant to be hateable for leftist homestuck fans as a (neo-)liberal or faux leftist. Hussie just designed him after everyone hussie found annoying in the social justice community primarily on tumblr. Even his political monologues, though not WITHOUT hypocrisy and bullshit, tend to actually skew towards “pretty fucking reasonable hussie just thinks people being upset by bad stuff is stupid”.  

Now, people cite Kankri being ableist in his criticism of certain other dancestors for ~conforming to stereotypes~, which yes from an in context scenario is pretty fucking bad. If someone IRL is dealing with their disability in a way you think seems pretty stereotypical keep that thought to yourself. HOWEVER, AS ONE OF THE MOST CRUCIAL POINTS TOWARDS KANKRI BEING GENERALLY SYMPATHETIC, WE GET THE META ELEMENT. Hussie, in writing a hypocritical mansplainer who goes on and on and on about everything thats politically incorrect about the people around him, practically beat-for-beat replicates talking points PEOPLE HAVE USED TO CRITICIZE HOMESTUCK ITSELF. YES! MITUNA’S PRESENTATION AS A CHARACTER IS 100% UNAMBIGUOUSLY AWFUL IN ITS PORTRAYAL OF PEOPLE WITH BRAIN INJURIES AND MENTAL DISORDERS. DAMARA IS A RACIST STEREOTYPE SO BAD HUSSIE SHOULD GET THROWN IN JAIL. INCEST IS BAD. If ANYONE in homestuck should’ve pulled the meta knowledge shit in post-canon, kankri would’ve been a WAYYYYYY better candidate than dirk for it, especially since kankri seems halfway to realizing he’s fictional just by political analysis of the story he’s in! Kankri seems to exist at the apex of Hussie’s confusion about fandom, given he’s baffled enough by people being obsessed with his work yet so intensely negative that he can only seem to think of them as obsessive manchild wierdos with no sense of rational thought. As someone who myself unironically loves Homestuck and yet have an entire third of my brain dedicated to ripping it apart on an ethical level, I can see some of myself in that turtleneck’d contrarian. Just because someone is a fan of something doesn’t mean they will or should unthinkingly defend it from all recourse. This is something homestuck as a whole struggles with, I think back to the aspect or extended zodiac quiz where one of the questions amounted to “someone is talking shit about a show you like, how do you respond” and there wasn’t even an answer for “actually listen to what they’re trying to say and consider if they could be right”. Kankri is a symbol of sorts for those critical enjoy-ers, in a way. A stupid silly not-that-meaningful way, but a way. I think people should reclaim him. 

I’ve touched on it a bit before, but the last main sympathizing aspect of kankri for me (aside from personality things like his frankly unearned patience with a friend group that entirely fucking hates his guts) is a trait share by almost all the dancestors: Hussie’s fucking disturbing use of mental illness & psychiatric disorders with them. Between Kankri’s unwillingness to observe common social cues, his overtly poised and practiced manner of speaking, his obsession with using trigger warnings to warn off confrontation in leu of not just speaking his mind with everything, his tendency to cling to certain articles of clothing for long periods of time, his implied difficulty taking care of himself physically, and the fucking insulting “mom-friend useless-manchild-who-needs-nannying” dynamic he has with Porrim, he comes off (intentionally or no) as a beat-for-beat embodiment of an autistic person as seen through Hussie’s tropey and horribly ableist worldview. This is a common trait he shares with both Aranea and Mituna, as well as many of the other dancestors to lesser degrees (many of them, like Mituna, also have OTHER mental disorders flat-out-stated in such a way that makes their depiction just fucking confused and bad). For me, and for at least SOME other people, it makes unbiased critical reactions to them damn near impossible. They deserve better than how hussie can write them. In a lot of ways I have friends like Kankri, and Hussie’d almost fucking certainly find them just as embarrassing and annoying as he meant for Kankri to be. 

So yeah, Kankri isn’t my favorite by any means but i don’t feel like i can or should condemn him. He’s fun. I’d watch his video essays. 

And this isn’t even BEGINNING to touch on how much I loathe Porrim as an example of “good cool fun feminists that hussie can sexualize!” And her more open bisexuality than other trolls being both a tool for fetishization by Hussie and a fucking skin-crawling thing to use as a contrast for Kanaya’s status as either “the only confirmed lesbian in homestuck (until postcanon showed rose was a lesbian too)” or “the only lesbian troll in existence ever bc thats totally how sexuality would work with aliens” (sorry if you ascribe to the “all trolls are bisexual bc they’re supposedly binormative as a get-out-of-jail-free card for hussie’s hetero-ass ship tease shit” then. well get better soon)

Hello, everyone, I’d like to share somethings that have urked me and outright surprise me when getting deeper and deeper into this whole shebang cause honestly, this is too much to NOT notice. If you're wondering what I am talking about I am referring to all the stuff I found out about Viv and the fact that she never truly seemed sorry for what she's done to said people based on what I have found out and what she's said in recent years.

Now you all may say "G, she said she's sorry and that's that. Don't bring up things that happened years ago or have been resolved." and look, man, I'd leave it alone if it was CLEAR that she was truly a person of her word, wasn't a hypocrite, and didn't cause 3 people to be suicidal and cause/know of witchhunts that she KNOWS happened and/or wanted to happen. You guys can like her all you want and defend her, but be sure they are good defenses, understand WHERE I am coming from, and be mindful of what I am saying. Don't just ignore everything she did just cause you THINK she's super nice or because she's your idol.

I will also emphasize that I wish for NO ONE to send any unnecessary hate or anything of the like to Viv. You don't stoop to someone else's level just cause they did some bad crap. I just wanted to say any of this, loud and clear, cause its straight facts that shouldn't be buried just cause she wants to hold onto her image the best she can. In this link It tells anyone who comes across it what she and some others mentioned here had to go through when being compared by Viv, wanting to do what's right and still being "called out" and bullied while getting hate sent to them, and having been told how her dreams would never ever be achieved and that she should practically give up, how she put friends against one another, etc. It showcases screenshots of these examples.

I'm sure some of you old-time fans of Viv know who this person was and are aware of the beef they had with one another. Notice in this post that the very things she did to Starvader she said DollCreep did to her and how she tries and paint DollCreep as this SEVERELY abusive person. SV was willing to change some of the designs and even wanted to stop, Viv, however, seemed to take great offense over such an accusation and took to social media to make her frustrations known. Oh btw, if you read the doc you'll see that SV wanted to commit suicide. DC actually attempted it. The cyberbullying ran that deep and it ANGERS me.

SW fandom rant

To be honest, I don't really know how or where can I start talking about this. If you aren't interested in any of the Star Wars drama that is going on then skip this post, cause its gonna be long... these goes for the SW fans we are concerned about the whole situation itself. I barely have the strength to do this and exposing my opinion about certain things makes me uncomfortable but it's been a long while since I'm keeping things to myself. There's much information I have to process so please be patient with me since I barely know how to express my emotions in the right way (that's why I'm holding myself back a lot here: it will seem I'm calm... but I'm not. I'm angry and tired at the same time).

DISNEY CANON

We all know where it all started. The Force Awakens premiere in 2015. We will start from there.

As ANY star wars movie, there will be people who liked it, people who loved it and people who hated it. And there is where some fans clash with the others. Fans who enjoy practically every movie or SW related things and those fans who demonize every movie (specially the ones from the new Disney canon) and the only thing that matters for them are the episodes IV, V, VI and the Legends canon (some of them also defend the prequel episodes I, II and III, fact which I'll talk about it later). And they bash against everyone who likes the Disney sequels.

BOI IM SCARED OF TELLING PEOPLE THIS WAS MY FAVOURITE SAGA SO FAR. And I already had problems with Legends hardcore fans.

Let me tell this straightaway... Star Wars are movies for kids. They've always been. George Lucas said it. They seem to be thirsty for feeling again what they felt when they were kids whenever a SW movie comes out but they always exit the cinema with a feeling of extreme disappointment.

I was talking about the last movie with my co workers at the beginning of the year and they complaint it was "too Disney". And that's precisely what I'm trying to explain! It's ok whether you like the sequels or not like them. Everyone has his own taste. I just find funny complaining for a whole saga originally made for kids for being "too Disney". LEGENDS CANON

Then there's those who hated the prequels, that said there was nothing worse than the phantom menace, those who hated on George Lucas for doing such a crap, but now praise the prequels because Disney is satan for them and they want the old canon back. George Lucas ended up selling SW to Disney because, he ain't no fool, he knows this fanbase is one of the most toxic and ungrateful that has ever existed. And he saw it with the prequels feedback... Then they now have the guts to demand him to continue the old canon? Smells like hypocrite-crying fanboys to me.

My whole point is....It's ok if you are a new/Disney sequels fan, it's ok if you are a prequels fan, it's ok if you are a SW original movies fan, Legends canon fan, OG fan, casual fan, hardcore fan... as always you understand that not everyone will agree with your point of view, not everyone will like or think the same way as you do, or live SW the same way as you do. And it's not just raise the hate on shippers thing dude you could just apologize because you said something sexist and offended a lot of people who ship reylo and really means a thing for them. The whole thing that the greatest achievement a man can have with a woman is sex is just DISGUSTING. Rey kissed Ben but now he's gone Finn has the road clear and can fuck her? BRUH.

But they eventually meet in the middle between light and dark and Leia finally reaches out to him to make him turn to the light.That's their fight. That's the angst. That's the tea. "No one is ever really gone" there's always hope. Star Wars is centered in HOPE. And their story represents it at its finest.

ooook, i wanted to make my position on some things clear. some of you have probably noticed that i have been very vague about how i stand on some... themes... in this fandom and that i only speak up when something enormously fucky is going down. that was on purpose, but im gonna stop doing that now.

when i joined tumblr eons ago i used to be (past tense) pretty indifferent to and kind of ok with r//pf content. it happens to actors, creators, etc in a lot of fandoms and it never outright bothered me. i never specifically sought out or even wrote r//pf content, but i knew a few bloggers who did and sometimes i saw some edits or a short fic and i was like “aww thats cute” and went on. in my mind “speculating about whether or not two celebrities are a couple/saying two people would be a cute couple” wasnt that far away from “creating stories where those two are together”. i also fully bought into the ‘the people in the stories are fictionalised versions of the real people’ thing.

over time i finally acknowledged that being shipped with a colleague or a friend would be uncomfortable for most people, so that would apply to celebrities, too. i still wasnt exactly anti r//pf, but my main concern was that the subjects of the r//pf should never, never be confronted with the fic or the other romantic content created about them. i was already convinced that dark and twisted shit like r*pefic or heavily kinky stuff was unacceptable for r//pf. i went by these rules for the longest time: if r//pf content isnt fucked up and if its guaranteed that the people its about will not see it, its ok. you cant be uncomfortable with something you dont know anything about. i still held onto this for some time after getting into b//fu.

then some severely sinister shit happened, which im sure most of you remember. i saw the lengths some people would go to defend writing fucked up r//pf or r//pf in general. i had gotten to know (although know is a strong word as im not really ~in~ the b//fu fandom and im notoriously bad at making friends on here or just responding in general haha) a few bloggers, some of them shippers. this happened after i made a few angry posts about the fucked up shit, so i knew the few shippers i met werent those kinds of monsters. i know they arent bad people and i know they wanted the boys or their friends/partners to never find any of it. 

but in the meantime (like, a few months ago?) weve learned that the boys DO know about the r//pf (as does s*ra apparently) and theyre uncomfortable with it. r*an even made some not so subtle comments about it. if you remember, one of my main rules was that for r//pf to be ok, they cant ever find out about it. and suddenly i noticed the big flaw in my logic. deep down i always knew that r//pf in general wasnt ok and i was just kidding myself with the “if they never find out about it” bit. if something is only ok when it happens behind someones back and is suddenly not ok anymore when the person knows about it, it hasnt been ok from the start. what you dont know wont hurt you is bullshit.

the reason why i didnt say anything for the longest time is because i thought “ive been ok with and condoned this for so long and have even played with the thought a few times myself, so i would be a real hypocrite if i started posting like ive always been against it”. but now i AM saying it. so if there are any shippers left following me even after i got put on a blocklist (and ive earned my place on that one): i know not all of you are irredeemable monsters and i know i cant convince you to stop. i know i wont be able to do that, but please think about some of the things ive written and ask yourself if youre only ok with projecting romantic or erotic stories onto real people because “they wont ever find out”. if you are, then please remember, that they already HAVE found out and are uncomfortable with it. if youre now feeling guilty thats the sign for you to stop. it took me some time to figure this out, too.

I think its people now seeing their own hypocrisy P3 so im not trying to start any arguments & apologize for offending anyone so im sorry 😞 but I was just trying to say why people appreciate Kate now more than before. Again I can see how its racist but I also think it’s that people are realizing how hypocritical & stupid they were & that protocol is total shit.

Hey anon :) I think the people who were so anti- Kate and are now really pro- Kate because of Meghan are suspect. I doubt any of them really like Kate. You can’t just do a 180 like that out of nowhere when Kate hasn’t changed. The only reason they’re behaving that way is because they don’t like Meghan. I think there are people on the other side doing it too. People who criticised Kate for years are now fawning over Meghan for the same things they used as reasons to hate Kate because it plays in to their anti-Kate narrative and not because they actually like or are remotely interested in Meghan herself. I don’t like either behaviour. I think it just further creates this idea that the women are pawns who can be used to drag someone down. And it again makes it seem like the fandom has these two camps of “Meghan fans” and “Kate fans.” We’ve been dealing with this for years but that prevents nuanced discussions about the good and part parts of all royals. And it also feeds in to a lot of the unreasonable hate directed towards bloggers. My friends and I have all had messages when we criticise someone saying that we’re fake fans or that as fans of that person we should approve of all their decisions and that’s bull. I can like Kate and think she makes mistakes. In fact I think that’s far healthier than thinking she’s either the devil incarnate or a saint. 

If there are people who are realising that protocol and all that stuff is bull shit then that’s great. But their response to that shouldn’t be to denigrate Meghan for it. I don’t think that’s a genuine reason for anyone to like Kate and dislike Meghan because it applies to both of them. I personally do get frustrated with some of the narratives. I’ve been here for 6 years with my blog running for 4 and the way people talk about Kate as if she had an easy time is the biggest load of crap I’ve ever heard. The fandom, the media and the public pulled her and her family and even her children to shreds over every little thing. More than being an inaccurate portrayal of Kate’s experiences, it also erases our experiences being in this fandom and I’m sure as hell gonna call that out. You don’t rewrite the last 7 years of a fandom you’ve been part of for 9 months. I also think you can call out people’s hypocrisy. I’ve called out on numerous occasions the fact that bloggers here said you can’t wear heels over four inches, non-British designers, all black or outfits that show your armpits in church because those same bloggers have defended Meghan for all of those things multiple times. But that’s not a critique of Meghan and I’m very careful to make that clear when I’m discussing it. It’s a critique of the fandom. When I point that out it’s to say this protocol thing doesn’t exist for Kate or for Meghan and when they make it a thing for one woman and not the other they’re just backing up everything I’ve been saying since I started this blog. There are ways to call out the fandom’s behaviour when it comes to the two women without making it about the women themselves. And for a lot of bloggers pointing out those hypocrisies turns into a reason Meghan isn’t as good and that doesn’t make any sense either!

i think that people need to like...learn to understand and respect that other people can Have Opinions Different From Yours like. it genuinely came as a kind of shock when i was on twitter and one of my (older. like, in their twenties) mutuals was talking about issues. like, they were talking about trans issues at one point and they were talking about some notorious trans person who was a dick about something else or something (maybe to do with nb genders) and they were like, yeah. this person is an asshole. but they’re also trans and therefore you can’t invalidate their thoughts and experiences, even if you want to completely disregard everything that they have to say. like, they’re a person too and are autonomous and obviously have had a set of experiences Unique To Themselves so you can’t just say shit like ‘well i’m just gonna block my ears and ignore everything they say’ because if you DO that, then that is, first of all, hypocritical to a sad extent, and secondly, it leaves no room for growth or understanding for EITHER party.

another example of this was with like, internet friends and mutuals and stuff and they were expressing their own personal opinions on something like.... i think it was related to fandom dynamics or something. and anyway they said their bit and followed it up with something like ‘feel free to discuss your own opinions and stuff with me, and know that even if our views and practices differ that doesn’t make me respect you any less’

my final example is when they learnt that TERFs existed. he asked what it was and a bunch of us just said stuff like, yknow, transphobic people under the guise of feminism, and he’s like, alright. but instead of just being like “eh” and leaving it at that (he’s trans and intersex too) he went on to examine like, the popular arguments and stuff of actual TERFs which is like....wow. it takes a lot of chill to be able to read over all of the bullshit that TERFs spout and just kind of go ‘hahahaha ok wow these people believe this shit and there are a lot of holes in their arguments’ and like. the way that he went ahead and collected his own info first and thought about it properly and came to his own conclusion is like, really important

like. wow. it made me realise that people like that dude are the best off in this world, because, alright. tumblr is, in fact, a community that runs off a really fucked up and roundabout system. the stark black-and-white morality thing going on is super harmful, in that it invalidates the fact that people are individuals with autonomy to think and feel and come to conclusions of their own, and it just doesn’t take into account that people who’ve had vastly different social and cultural experiences will have! different! opinions! and world views! and getting caught up in purist morals and this lack of understanding (aside from the fact that it’s like, exactly like my experiences with dealing with conservative church ideals, just.......on the gay side) is only going to lead in unhealthy conflict.

in the real world, not everyone is caught up in this same game of “moral purity” that tumblr (and honestly, i hate using ‘tumblr’ like this, but i genuinely have not witnessed this bullshit on any other social media platform ever) likes to enforce. let’s be real; there are so many more people out there than that. chances are, the people you push away for being quote unquote Problematic for some small breach of something stupid are actually.....really nice people? who just haven’t like, been educated enough or have experienced....the same experiences? i have friends who have....slightly different views on things as I do. i have like, straight friends who are still dealing with their own fair share of internalised homophobia, who have said kind of dumbass things in the past but i dont condemn them for that? i just try to point out where they’re being insensitive or ignorant and that’s that. their continued progression in learning and growing is admirable in that they’re willing to change and adapt, which is a sore contrast to a lot of the people i’ve seen around and met on here. the fact that they can have different opinions on things to me doesn’t make them any less of a valuable friend? it doesn’t change the fact that i value the companionship of the friends i have in real life immensely? they’ve helped me through so much, and i enjoy spending time with them, the Slightly Ignorant Of The Sociopolitical Whatevers People, just as much as i enjoy spending time with my friends on here, even if the people on here are like. “more woke” or whatever.

i’m not defending anyone, nor am i endorsing anything. i acknowledge that people can and will be shitty and they won’t listen no matter how hard you try, and some people you just wont be able to deal with, and yeah. shutting out those people is fine. but no-one’s gonna grow (especially not you) if you make yourself a little bubble of Everyone Thinks The Same As Me and refuse to see anything or think anything else.

1. Yeah I blocked you and you blocked me. Thats...thats about it on this one.

2. Yes I did do that. I was having a discussion. Is that wrong? I browse that place from time to time and wanted to jump in with my thoughts. I can not ship something and still defend certain aspects of it. Its not so black and white, I don't ship SF and haven't in years, but considering the poll was CS vs SF, I chose to defend SF. The poll had only two options. And my fanfic? I wrote ONE SF fic 3 three years ago for a friend. Yes you're right, I did have posts claiming to be a SF shipper and thought it would be endgame. 3 years ago. I don't hold those same opinions. 

3. And they suck because...? They still demonstrate what some may call, “heroic acts”.

4. Yes I was for SF. Now Im not, haven't been for it in three years. If Neal were to ever come back, I would root for him to be with Tink, Elsa, or Jefferson. But mainly Tink.

5. You're right this is a pretend tv show, and you call people very nasty names over it. Thats just not right. To say you value real people more than to go and do that, its very hypocritical. And when have I ever terrorized show runners? I have never tweeted at them or attempted to contact them at all. 

And all those nasty names you just listed that you said you and your shipmates are being called, I have encountered people in this fandom that are those things. I am not someone that thinks anyone who disagrees with me is inherently any of those things , and Im sorry that people call you that when its not true. But calling people who aren't doing that to you bitches, crazy, gross, etc is not fair. And also, two wrongs don't make a right. I have been called multiple things, been accused of being things, bullied, harassed, etc and I don't go around calling people bitches and crazy and linking their posts so that I can make fun of them and call them names. Thats just stooping to their level. I am not really comfortable saying this, but you should know that people on your side of the fandom bullied me to self harm as well, three times. I really don't like putting that out there on the internet but your side is not peachy and innocent. But I don't blame all of you, and I certainly don't make a big chunk of my online life calling people names and making fun of them in return for what their shipmates (that they might not even actually know they just share opinions) did/said to me. 

And I did not go along with it, I told everyone they needed to be civil and nice. 

And yes I was wrong and you were right about Neal dying and not getting with Emma. That was 3 years ago. I don't believe SF should be together anymore, so I mean, I don't have that opinion anymore. My perspective has changed. 

I mean, why does it matter if it upsets me? It doesnt, its just something that I wanted to talk about. I mean, do you WANT it to upset me? Because if you don't like people hurting your shipmates why would you do it to other people?

Allright...a serious post with the reveal of the Paladins Ages.

Okay..just as my screen name highly shows..I shipped Shiro and Allura.  I first decided to give Voltron: Legendary Defender a Chance as soon as I saw an ambiguously black/dark skinned princess, something I never grew up with, and was ready to support it on that aspect alone. I am old enough to say I could’ve watched the original Voltron as a kid, but to be honest...it never grabbed my attention. I didn’t care about shipping, I just wanted to enjoy the show. I also started to take a liking to the other characters, mainly Shiro because he just came out perfect to me. A Good leader, charismatic,  the original * I need a man like that* trope, and for once not the stereotypical “white man hero”. Than episode 11 in Season 1 happened, Shiro and Allura decided to go on a mission together and I ended up liking their interaction together aboard the Galra ship, even though it was only like 11 minutes of them together,and  I was sold from that moment that I liked these two people together. I was also under the impression that these two characters were in the same age group given how they both acted around the other paladins. I didn’t know what was going to happen to these two down the line, and didn’t want to get my hopes up, but I felt maybe they had a chance due to the way Shiro was absolute in rescuing Allura when she sacrificed herself for Shiro to escape, and how as soon as Allura is rescued, she hears Shiro in pain and runs to him along with Hunk. Then I was reminded how Shiro’s 80s counterpart died in the original, and when the Season 2 trailer came out, I along with many other fans feared the worst that his time to kick the bucket was coming. So I was gearing myself up for Shiro dying, and that would be the end of that ship. However, we got another Shallura moment in S2 episode 6 when these two characters had a brief moment together on the bridge and Shiro briefly held Allura’s hand. I freaking lost it and thought this ship was sailing. Then other shallura fans in the fandom put together wonderful analysis of these episodes to show other hints that we believed Shallura was going to happen (Like how Allura teased Shiro in the space mall episode, and he semi teased her back. The select music used for them when they had their interactions, how Shiro called out her name specifically in S2 Episode 12, and how he told Coran to look after Allura) All those little details I didn’t notice at first. However, we now how the handbook with the ages of the paladins and Shiro is no longer confirmed a teenager but an adult. To be perfect honest, I’d feel like a hypocrite to still support Shallura even though there is a 7 year gap. I didn’t like it with Uchuu no Kyodai so I can’t support it here which hurts. I was really excited to see a couple like Shiro and Allura get together, especially since I thought they were in the same age group. Now, Im not going to hate on anyone that continues to ship Shallura. In fact, a part of me questions the writers on how or why did they give me hope that this ship had a shot. I know in the original shiro and allura never end up together, but shit changes dammit! Like in Thundercats, in the 80s film tygra and cheetarah were never a couple but ended up together in the comic, and it was added into the reboot. And Lion-O never had romantic feelings for Cheetarah or Pumy-ra, but he ended up crushing on both so I was hoping Voltron would borrow some things  from the original and add onto the new content to the show, however I guess the romance element must stay <i>even though there was hardly any in the original</i>. The Shallura shipper in me doesn’t want to give up and find millions of ways to justify this pairing on the accountability that: We don’t know Altean culture, and perhaps they’re still in a medieval mindset just with advanced science like star wars..(Padme and Anakin anyone?) We still don’t know her exact age, not sure if she’s 18-19. Alteans age differently than humans ( mgann from YJ is 48 by martian standards but 16 by humand standards and she’s dating Konnor who is biologically 6 years old but sped up to physically be 16 o wait..logic) Its a fictional world, who the bloody hell cares? But my morals say no for now. if they can do a time skip making Allura in her early 20s, then fine, I’d go back to the shipping, but for now..I can’t defend this age gap with their current ages...I can’t, unless the creators are ready to pull something out of their asses for us to support the scenes they gave us and say this is okay, cause I got nothing. I used to be 17,18,19 and I used to be 25...the age difference is too much (even though they’re both on the same page in terms of goals of defending the universe) So bring on Romelle..everyone *sighs* atleast I have Saga...(I can never have a MOC and WOC power couple can I?) Im still gonna keep this blog though and repost fan art and such..but I can’t defend it. Probably gonna change the name too to spacedoutshalluratrash..
