"who's she?" were the first words that left jason's lips as he set his backpack down on an empty chair. after finishing up earlier than expected at the gym and having nothing else to do for the morning, jason decided to visit his friend percy, who taught swimming lessons

percy followed jason's line of vision and found his eyes locked on you - a new colleague of his who he was warming up to quickly. the two of you were close in age and shared hours, so a friendship between you was inevitable

grinning, percy said, "why do you wanna know? didn't even bother to ask about me, and i'm your best friend," to which jason pretended to act unbothered by rolling his eyes. however, his flushed complexion betrayed him

before jason could utter whatever lame excuse he was planning to, percy yelled, "y/n, can you come here for a sec?" with no kids to train at the moment, you'd decided to take a swim yourself in order to cool off as the drive to work left you awfully sweaty. you nodded at percy and swam over to where he and jason were standing

"i really hope that's a new teacher," you said, your eyes flitting over to jason, "so many kids are signing up now that its the summertime, and i'm dreading having to deal with such a big group." as you spoke, jason seemed to be transfixed by you. every word said with your saccharine voice had him nearly begging for the next, every time your fingers reached over to fix a strand of your hair, he wondered how your hair would feel between his own fingers

jason stopped himself. he'd known you for a solid two minutes and was close to asking you to marrying him. also, you and percy were both looking at him expectantly, waiting for him to say something

"not a new teacher, sorry," he said, his face getting redder by the second, "i'd like to learn how to swim though, maybe you could teach me?"

'good job shooting your shot, jason!' jason thought. he rarely ever made the first move, and especially not this quickly. his mind was already beginning to conjure up scenarios of you and him having breakfast together at the cafe nearby, then heading over to the pool and racing each other, and finally going on a shopping spree in which he'd pay for and carry all your items

you glanced at percy, trying not to laugh, "sorry to disappoint, but i teach 7-10 year olds and... i think it's safe to assume you're older than that?" cue a snort from percy and jason's daydreams quickly shattered

there would've been a silence between you if it weren't for percy's uncontrollable laughter. jason glared at his best friend, who was now on the ground and clutching his stomach, but even the stoniest of looks couldn't stop percy's howls

you felt bad as you watched jason get more and more embarrassed, and looked for anything to try and de-escalate the situation

"hey, is that coffee from delphi's? man, i love that place!" you said, spotting the empty coffee cup in jason's hand. you knew it was the only coffee shop for miles and prayed you were right, since you couldn't clearly see the logo

jason took a quick look at his cup and beamed, glad the universe gave him a chance to redeem himself, "yeah, i love it there too! their brownies are the best."

now, you were smiling too - his was beautiful and very contagious, "oh my god, yes! d'you wanna go get breakfast there tomorrow? i go before almost every shift."

"sure," jason breathed out. the gods were definitely on his side today. maybe those daydreams weren't completely shattered

Nico wakes up in darkness. Panic grips him immediately.

“Nyx, let me go,” he calls out into the void. Except, it’s not a void anymore. Slowly, the room around him drifts into focus, and accompanying ice creeps into Nico’s veins. He recognizes the marble columns and facades, the oculus above him, the statue in the center of the room.

He recognizes the altar in front of one of the alcoves; an alcove containing an unmade bed, scattered clothes, and photographs of Thalia Grace, Leo Valdez, and Piper McLean.

He’s in the Zeus cabin at Camp Half-Blood.

Nico squeezes his eyes shut when the temperature behind him drops. He feels the presence like a weight, the gravity in the room shifting to accommodate another person. I’m in Tartarus , he thinks desperately, this is an illusion, and it can’t hurt me if I don’t let it.

“No,” Nico calls out again, “whatever this is, stop. The fight is over.”

“Really, Neeks? You think I’m Nyx?” The person’s voice is filled with warmth, with humor, even as Nico stares at the funeral offerings left for him.

Even Tartarus can’t be this cruel.

“No,” he whispers. “No, this can’t be happening.”

i think it’s super lame that riordan built up this whole lore, i guess you could say, about how the big three kids are “way too powerful’ and how the big 3 had this whole agreement to stop having kids cause they were too powerful and they were causing too many problems. and then we meet percy and percy’s super powerful and then we meet nico and nico grows into his powers and is really powerful in his own right. hazel and thalia’s powers are insane in their own right but then he drops the ball on jason so badly that people to this day, think he’s knock off percy???

them fighting with their parents was amazing my fav was hephestus and aphrodite

the ending scene is so sad (the book actually ends with piper and jason thinking about leo not caleo 😍🥰)

also there was this scene in the lost hero where leo was like i am so scared of being remembered as like the funny friend and like all of my frineds are cool heroes and i’m just leo the tofu taco chef
