Durge's tiefling party was... interesting.
I walked around, talking to everyone, wondering if anyone was going to mention the suspect markings in blood in the middle of camp. Nobody did. Is this what serial killers feel like when they gift their murder trophies to their loved ones and they walk around wearing them in public, completely oblivious to the ghoulishness of it all?
Kissed Wyll. Chatted up Karlach. Made overly suggestive comments to Halsin. Agreed to have some wine with Shadowheart. Ditched her when Astarion suggested sex. Durge is an asshole, and somehow nobody seems to mind. The whole team absolutely loves him. Approval ratings are in the 60-90s. Somehow. Paladin Tav looks on from a parallel universe in disbelief.
We visited the creche, mostly to steal the blood of Lathander. I was fully ready to nuke Astarion in the process, but it was like he knew what was coming. Not only did he discover a secret compartment but he then managed to roll a nat 20 on the second attempt of opening it and got his hand on the crest. Half-drow Ghaunafein (Durge) got to steal a holy relic of Lathander, Shadowheart got a very shiny mace, Astarion didn't get burned to a crisp, Lae'zel got to go to the creche. Everyone's happy.
Things went sideways and we had to kill the entire creche. Well. Had to is, perhaps, not entirely correct. Choose to go out of our way to do so. And got really irritated that we couldn't find the kids that knocked me over with mage hand despite checking every room, including the nursery. Outrageous.
We turned around and headed into the Underdark where Lae'zel and Shadowheart had an altercation. Our brave leader Ghaunafein took one look at the situation, went "not my problem" and went to bed. Woke up to Shadowheart with a knife at Lae'zel's throat. Still not his problem, please keep it down, good night. Naturally I put Lae'zel's body in the ribcage where I keep all the corpses. It would have been rude to just leave her behind. Shadowheart somehow didn't take this uncaring attitude as a warning sign that getting involved with Ghaunafein was a bad idea, and shortly after invited him to share that bottle of wine again.
The camp started to feel dreadfully empty and it dawned on me that we're going to have issues going forward if my only tank is Karlach. I had but one hope.
I got to act 2 and... alas, Minthara did, in fact, not survive despite surviving the raid.
The disappointment was too much. I downloaded the Daughter of Lolth mod, fought with it until it worked, and now all is well. Turns out, Minthara does not get a new set of clothes if you steal them from her unconscious body so she had to stand trial in her undies. I'm glad I was generous and let her keep those, or that would have been even more uncomfortable for everyone involved. It certainly gave the scene a completely different vibe than I think Larian wanted it to.
Due to the Fighting (tm), I also got to see how much more Ketheric reveals about your past when Minthara is there. It was neat. Get a mad dog to judge a mad dog, indeed. People in Moonrise also keep recognizing Durge though they don't seem to know you, and the gnolls? The gnolls remember you and they like you. We're friends. I'm not sure I can murder my way through the tower now, I want my gnoll pals to survive. Where's the patch that let us recruit them?
I returned to camp and found Halsin just chilling with Minthara in her undies. I like to think that I got a solid 20 approval from him for this, considering his fondness for drow. I somehow did not get approval from Minthara when I gave her both casual clothes and armor though. Probably because I was still walking around in her casual clothes and refused to return them to her.

The trustworthy heart of the party and most desirable man alive. Apparently.

Testing new ways to recruit Minthara in Patch 6 - Part 2 (KO without being temporarily hostile)
The first part of this series taught me a lot about the changes to Minthara's recruitment conditions. I was fully expecting it to simply be easier to keep her temporarily hostile, but now that we know that any knock out condition will suffice
This means it's now possibly easier to recruit her than ever before.
For this next test I tried fighting her the old fashioned way, how lots of people may have done it and how I had hoped it would work from the start; talk to her at the goblin camp, reject her command to raid the grove, and knock her out as a result, regardless of whatever hostility level the game mechanics say.
Tumblr media
What sentence will always start a fight? - "Hey, wanna start a fight?"
Tumblr media
I even made sure they were able to hit the wardrum too, the bane of many an honor mode attempt at a Minthara recruitment.
Tumblr media
And look at that, it still worked!
Tumblr media
Also she didn't bug out this time, so inviting her to kill the guards together worked just fine.
One thing to note, if you do it her way of slaughtering your way out of the prison, you'll aggro the rest of the tower. You wanna sneak out the doors to the dock, and there's a path that will lead away from the tower. After returning to camp with Minthara and maybe even a long rest, the tower's aggro should reset.
Tumblr media
LMAOOO
I'm glad I finally get to witness this special pairing. Ultimatum? Never heard of her.
Tumblr media
THIS IS THE SECOND TIME HER CAMP CLOTHES GLITCHED OUT IN THE LEVEL UP SCREEN
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Also it wouldn't be a Baldur's Gate 3 patch that introduced new and innovative bugs to our favorite spicy elf. Apparently this is what she says in lieu of whatever appropriate narrative reaction should have triggered. Spoilering this out cause I don't wanna drop big spoiler bombs on unsuspecting people.
Anyway, that's it. I get the feeling I may not have to do any more testing than this. The previous methods of knocking her out should still work, the game has just extended that courtesy to any time she is knocked out.
I still think it would be cool if she disappeared after being reduced to 0 hp during the grove battle, like in the Daughter of Lolth mod which people used prior to all this. I dunno I feel no companion should be completely missable in this game. Although, this means the two people most likely to recruit Minthara without looking anything up are now both people playing an evil route, and those playing a pacifist good guy tav who always tries to knock enemies out instead of killing them. I look forward to the first time someone finds her at Moonrise Towers and it comes as a complete surprise. But I should wrap this up now.
Final Verdict: Recruiting Minthara by KOing her by initiating a fight via dialogue at the Goblin Camp - WORKS!

@coolseabird because you asked🤣 and I have far too free time rn and so much art and fic of her and I could literally post about her for days
Tumblr media Tumblr media
my Tav (who's real name is Tal'diira Baenre, who is also Minthara's youngest sister) [[I did NOT know Minthara was like... one of *THE Baenre's* for all of early access bc I thought she would just be like, a random/distant family member and not....one of Quenthel's daughters. But then come full release I realized Minthara WAS one of the daughters and had to basically face the fact I had unintentionally made my Tav her sister. and I had killed her at the goblin camp. and I felt sooo bad about it I wrote a fix it fic and modded Minthara back in]]
Class: Bard, with 2 lvl cleric dip
Baby girl is the annoying bard child of the family, she grew up idolizing her uncle, Jarlaxle. But given how strictly she was raised she became a lot more reserved as she got older (she's around 122 years old). She dyes her hair white, even though it's naturally black, at her mother's insistence. So similar to how Minthara mentions having a complicated relationship with her mom, I imagined Tav would feel the same. Feeling so weird about intimacy/safety because the person supposed to protect you most, who did protect you as a baby, also now tries to kill you maybe :/ but she has a younger brother (the true baby of the family) who she helped raise. I imagine her baby brother is like oddly softhearted and she felt like she had to protect/shield him a bit by being even More Intimidating so no one would try to fuck with her and by extension him. I'm of course like completely making this up but; I have decided the Baenre siblings all have a "yeah we'll kill each other but we'll double kill anyone who tries to hurt one of my siblings" vibe.
I really liked the idea of a high CHA character who was quiet/disarming/unsettling in the way they used it <- this was my entire basis for the character when i first played bg3 back in like 2020 lol and I happened to make a lolth sworn cleric and had so much fun that This whole fic thing evolved. She was raised to be a priestess of Lolth, until she fails her 5th trial and basically fled. Now furious that Lolth made her kill her wife, she wants revenge on a god, no big. So maybe several weeks into her escaping she finally makes it to the surface (see's the moon for the first time 😏) and is immediately picked up by the nautiloid, makes a new best friend (Shadowheart) and the rest of the gang drive her up the wall especially the vampire. So now she's unpacking all that :)

It's getting really full now haha! Thanks to a mod, I can have both Halsin AND Minthara!!
Add Scratch for me and a wolf for Halsin. There's no stopping us!
PS. The mod is called Daughter of Lolth :) I didn't install it until after the tiefling party, and it worked perfectly.

to get it out of way, I do think Minthara should have been recruitable for non-massacre-the-grove/non-evil playthroughs from the beginning. do-gooder here.
agree that the knock-out way fails somewhat to make sense without breaking 4th wall of 'yeah well the other two are not companions'
I think that more 'makes sense' way to go about it would have been similar to daughter of lolth mod - she escapes. the girl survived Menzo for ~200 (?) years, what a bunch of 6lv to her. also adds a point against her in the trial scene
personally, more interesting point would be if it would be still possible to cooperate on shadow curse quest when Minthara is chosen if Minthara vs Halsin conflict is ever implemented. but the way it works now, as far as I understand, it's possible to resolve Thaniel situation before hitting Moonrise

PSA, If you want to see minthara's content but are incapable of being mean in a video game then I highly recommend installing the following mod!!!
This will allow you to recruit minthara without killing the tieflings or wyll, halsin and karlach. She is worth seeing at least once! Definitely more interesting then she appears after the first encounter, promise :)

you gave me second hand minthara obsession before I even got bg3 and now that I'm playing I'm beset by agonies trying to do the goblin fort because I don't want to kill her but I also can't not help the druids and tielfings because I'm a goody two shoes tielfing druid what have you done to me
teehee. get minthara’d. 😼 i have no great love for the druid grove so i don’t mind killing them but i do get mad about how much content you lose if you do bahaha so yeah. there is that mod that everyone’s been talking about — daughter of lolth, i think? if you’re interested in that, but i haven’t personally used it and probably never will
