one of these days i hope my financial situation will be stable enough that i can get myself a perfect grade. i used to not want one at all because i thought i'd be too scared to mess up a $200+ kit but now i think i'm good enough at the build process that i simply would not do that. i could do her right
#spiritspeak#my dream kit is the pg exia repair lighting model but this would cost me like $500 minimum. such is life#i hope someday they make other perfect grades for 00 though. we never did get a pg qan[t]...

guess who got a PG Astraea Type F conversion kit for his PG Exia :)))))))))))))) im so excited. the astraea is literally my favorite mobile suit. @screaming-skvll's NG 1/100 astraea was the spark that compelled me to try gunpla again back in '09 and the suit has held a special place in my heart. it was my first gunpla upon returning to the hobby and the exia and it's lineage are some of my favorite designs. plus, it's red and cool as FUCK. the only thing I wish is that the kit came with the v-fin for the Type F2. I'm a sucker for that v-fin but hey, whatever. cool enough that there's a damn conversion kit out there at all for it. hopefully the bandai LED kit doesn't give me too much grief trying to kit it alongside the resin conversion kit. really stoked to get to building it once it arrives and i finish up the tallgeese.

RG 1/144 Celestial Being Prototype Mobile Suit GNT-0000 "Gundam 00 Qan[T]"
The RG Qan[T] has had my eye for a while now. I picked this up at a black friday sale to go along with my RG Exia.
The Qan[T] is a much newer kit than the Exia. While it still uses the old RG pre-built inner frame, which is just as floppy at the hips as the others I've worked with, it also incorporates a lot of normally built sections like newer RGs, giving it a stiffer set of knees and arms, necessary to balance the large, heavy, weapon pieces.
Like other RGs, there's perfect color correction out of the box, including some subtle two-toning with slightly grey and white panels, as well as lighter and darker blue accent panels. The end effect looks a lot better than the larger difference between Exia's grey and white paneling.
RG Qan[T] comes with several hand options, like most RGs - two closed fists, two open fists, and two articulated hands, which I just got rid of as these old articulated RG hands are really brittle and loose, and don't really facilitate posing. Oddly, there's only a single left-handed open hand option, rather than one for each arm.
The kit comes with a series of really pretty trans-green parts to create the GN sword V, which, like the 00 Gundam's sword, can switch between rifle and sword mode by rotating the blade horizontally and tilting the handle and guard. The guard connects to the upper part of the forearm, rather than a shield on the side like with Exia.

There's also a series of 6 GN Sword Bits, also in trans-green and solid blue. Small attachments flip out of the Zaku II-style pauldron shield (GN Shield) and clip into the bits, which can flare out to be posed in a firing mode.
Handles fold out from each of the bits to allow them to be wielded as individual daggers as well.

The sword bits can also join with the GN Sword V to form either the Buster Sword or Buster Rifle. There's a clever bit of engineering here that lets them all clip to the sword blade securely without needing obvious attachment points. There's also an added stand for the Buster Rifle mode to help support everything.

You can also remove the GN drive from the back of the kit. A little latch opens up and you twist the sub-assembly out, revealing the main quantum GM drive. The other of the pair is hidden within the GN Shield.

The kit has some great, super flexible articulation. As is common for RGs, certain panels shift as you flex and extend the joints. The raised sections on the forearms limit flexion at the elbow, but the legs are really well designed and can bend all the way back.
You can also rotate the support arm of the GN Shield back behind the main body, allowing for the Quantum Burst pose.
Unfortunately, the design of the neck and a panel at the back of the head make it impossible to freely turn the head side to side, greatly limiting posing. I'm really disappointed at this, although oversights like this were common in this era of RGs.

Overall, I had fun with this kit. I really like the inclusion of the extra green GN conduits on the arms and legs - they reflect light in a way that makes them appear to glow, and the dark trans-green isn't so dark that it obscures the foil sticker detail underneath. The decal stickers also aren't too onerous or over the top, which is another common RG complaint.
I definitely think the RG is worth the price, although the best of the 00 Gundam series suits are probably the MG kits, as these allow for proper lighting inside the GN units. I think the kit I've wanted the most is of course the PG Exia, with its elaborate lighting system out of the box. One day maybe...

Hey Bandai
So I've built a half dozen 3rd party kits now, and I just have to say. Bandai, y'all need to step up your stand game.
These 3rd party kits have crazy cool stands, and most of them have multiple configurations depending on how you'd like to display the model.
Yes, PG Exia has a nifty stand, but most of these 3rd party kits, are MG sized and Priced, and have stands on par or better than PG Exia... just sayin'.

It is a little funny that out of any of the like, mascot mainline protagonist Gundams, the Exia is the one that has the most wildly varying levels of quality between grades. You’ve got the
HG: incredibly dated, no beam effect parts and can’t pose worth a damn
RG: Pretty solid afaik, leagues better than the HG at least
MG: In desperate need of a 2.0, uses polycaps and has a tendency to get flimsy with time
PG: arguably the best PG they’ve ever put out

what’s your favorite gundam series and/ or mobile suit (either from the series or separate)? Mine favorite’s 00 and the Exia is my babygirl but, as the name implies, I’m also very partial to the Jegans (and their big sisters the Jestas *drools*)
Jegan’s are such fun little suits bc of how easily they seem to be able to be customized (forever gr at Bandai for making the stark jegan p Bandai)
Fav series is Unicorn hands down bc Ive always been a sucker for Believe In Humanity stories. That and the technicals are all just Absolutely Spot On. I own like all 3 or 4 of the ost discs? Still forever sad Marida died tho. Big L.
So while Unicorn is DEFINITELY up there for my fav suit (I have the rg and mg ver ka and I still want the MGEX and pg) I still think the gen3 suits from 00 Awaken the Trailblazer are all Fucking great, Zabanya and 00 Qan[t] topping that list. Actually no Harute fucks absolutely raw so Harute too :3

Spent yesterday at the war museum because they have a War Games exhibit going on. (took no photos, hindsight I should have) They didn't even have a display for Warhammer! The heretics!
I got my Ender 3 up and running again. Printed out a storage insert for my Horizon board game, picked up my PG Exia again and redid my top shelf display.
Also got another 1,400 words written for Indomitable.

Finished the arduous task of going back to panel line all the kits I'd already finished and holy shit, never doing that again, what a pain in the ass.
I actually gave up on the Exia because it's such a finicky kit. I figure if I want a nice looking Exia I'll get the goddamned PG
